My group is treating Candlekeep as a series of one shots and we're all taking turns running. I've never run anything before and this video really helped synopsize the adventure and see where else I can help take it. Thank you so much for taking the time to break this down. Your enthusiasm is much appreciated!

Going to be running this today for my session 0 of a new campaign. This is a lot of help! (Party of 3 starting at level 3 though)

This one sounds like a ton of fun. It has a lot of options for all kinds of different people and play styles.

I've been attempting to run Candlekeep Mysteries as a full-on campaign. It's going decently so far due to me inserting overall plot but uh funny story.
I ran a lil "level-up interlude" aka Split The Party and ended it on the paladin getting Mazfroth's as his book pertaining to his reason for being in Candlekeep
    And well
The gingwatzim fucking critted its attack, rolled 29 for damage, and the Paladin had 18hp. I started panicking because yeah I wanna be a harsher DM bUT NOT LIKE THIS
So I had to hurriedly bring in another party member to hear him scream and go down in order to save me from accidentally nat 1-ing a DST due to my extraordinary luck

Hey. I am also running every story in Candlekeep Mysteries as a full campaign. Would you be willing to share any of your ideas on how to connect the stories and have an overall campaign arch?

@@melissa3988 Oh I am panicking hardcore about it ngl. We finally held a session after a hiatus last Sunday and it was almost a disaster and the aforementioned paladin died (but I brought him back because I love him and also one of the players had to leave early so we mutually decided no character death without everyone in attendance).
I find it helps to have an overarching plot that you've homebrewed yourself. And honestly my players love my cutscenes and interlude/level-up microsessions that address their own personal backstories. I'm not gonna lie, it isn't easy, but I'm managing so far.
If you're having problems with ideas, steal a plot from a TV show. If you're having problems with making NPCs, rip them from pop culture. I used some homebrew races from the dandd wikia and the party adopted a Cutebold character I made.
Inspiration can come from anywhere. That might have come across as a mess but I hope it helped!!

I'm in the process of running now and I'll be honest: "I didn't know I was making monsters that would hurt people, I thought I was just scamming them with fake books" does not pass the sniff test. It just comes off as BS.
Is there something I'm missing about how you can summon a fake book magically that you know can "guard" you (as you said that the leader knows with the two gigwazims in her office) and not have some evil intent?

    • @NoFunAllowed

maybe they have never seen these creatures act of their own accord before, so they have no clue what they do out in the wild without orders

    • @LanternNoirPresents
      @LanternNoirPresents 3 года назад +1

@@NoFunAllowed Hmm.. possibly. I dunno, though. Unless they just started this hustle, it's unlikely that the leader would think of them as "guards" and not know that they (like the mimic) need to feed.
I'm moding the story so that they know full well what's up and that their general plan is sell the books to local wealthy folks to help "soften" the house for easy breakins.
