  • Smeedia returns to the Podcast for Episode #142 to talk about the end of his 6-Cylinder STI.
    This is Tanner's third time on the podcast and the original intent was to bring him back on after his 6-Cylinder STI was fully up and running. But now word has come out that he has decided to part out the EG33 6-Cylinder engine he has been working on for all this time, so we had to get him on to talk about it.
    It is safe to say that Tanner has put his heart and soul into this project, so it is certainly not an easy decision to change course at this point. So we wanted to get an idea as to what went into that decision.
    We also wanted to get an idea of what direction he might go in next.
    A big thanks to Smeedia for coming back to the Podcast, and I hope you enjoy the conversation!
    Stay Tuned!

    Smeedia is a real one, I spoke with him when he sold his VB WRX and he said although the engine is nice but the performance is not there as handling is not great and the car felt numb with it using the Forester and Ascent open diff drivetrain and electric power steering vs his STI with front LSD, center DCCD diff, rear LSD, and direct hydraulic steering. he could have kept the VB and keep building it for views but he’s a enthusiast and not in his nature to keep a car that wasn’t enjoyable just to get click views and he sold it. I was talking to someone at Flatirons tuning and he said you guys are considering buying a VB and over inflate its actual performance in build video for view clicks. I know you guys have never said anything of the such and it’s only a rumor I heard from a member there, so apologize if it’s not true.

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! We love what Smeedia is up to, and we do our best to help out any chance that we have.
      We are hoping to get our 2024 WRX in the next few weeks so we can start working on it and seeing what we can do with the platform.

    The 1000 hp is obtainable because we have the tunes that allow us to rev to 9500 rpm. I still can’t believe that number. Holy crap that’s revving to the moon. And then we have sent countless motors to the grave yard and donated many parts to the gods of speed, so we have learned and collected years of data. Therefore the tunes are getting dialed in from 7k-10k rpm where the factory did not dare to even go. And one of my motors saw 8500 rpm, and was running so good, then shot # 4 rod right through the block intake and was sticking out of my hood. I opened the hood and then just closed it slowly and called my wife to bring the ol Cummins truck with the trailer.

      Often ignored.. mean piston speed when revving that high...
      Especially when state-side alway going big block ej25 build...
      Where jdm ej20 will be much better living in that high revving nature...
      Hence ej207 jdm engine came with 80000rpm rev limit drom factory 😊

    Wow! I did not know this was his first complete engine swap. Personally, I love the EG33, but I really hope people stop swapping them into cars. I want however many SVX are still alive to stay that way! Obviously, if a car is crashed or completely rusted out, I hope someone harvests the engine and puts into good use. Really though, for anyone seeking 6 cylinder sound and power, EZ series just makes so much more sense today. Smeedia has insane work ethic. That's for sure.

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. It is definitely getting harder to keep the SVX's out there running. They were so far ahead of their time, and such cool cars. It would be great if Subaru could find a way to keep parts available for them.

    The safety systems and parts swapping (automated steering and alignment discussion) is already a thing too. Putting the faster steering rack from a 15+ STi in an 08-14 can cause problems with the VDC. Have one in my ‘11 WRX and it freaks out, especially if you forget to turn off traction control. Add in the race pads and the “little dab of brake to one wheel” the system attempts creates a really jarring experience.

    Should still give the ez30 a crack, even if its not for blue, but another platform. EZ30 swap a gc8, 1st gen legacy or a brz would be siiiick

    • @longdomedia
      @longdomedia 2 месяца назад

      This comment comes after watching more of this video, everything you're saying you desire comes back to a flat platform 😅 EZ30 is smaller then the eg33, more support then the eg, lighter, most of the modifications made for the eg33 would probably cross over onto the ez.

      Yes tanner does entertain but flat irons I come to learn facts about subarus, flat irons is the best Subaru shop in the world, I don’t know of a better Subaru shop. Every time I call I get a great answer, the correct and trusted answer, even on hard hybrid motor questions, then they also I feel have the best customer service out of any businesses doesn’t even matter what they are selling dealing with nice knowledgeable people is always way less stressful, and actually I purposefully choose flat irons every time I need a part, I check them first, eBay is fun and all but honestly you never get what you order. Or the scam of 3 good coil packs and 1 bad one game. I’ll just deal with flat irons and have 0 stress knowing mr. Cooley and the rest of the crew are the ones dealing with my order. I honestly don’t know why people go else where.

    The problem with the build from the start was improper fabrication which caused so many problems. It ended up costing way more expense in the end and the project to go south. Might as well go back with the EJ built at the highest level with professional high quality fabrication this time around to build something truly special Rob Dahm style for the STi game!

    • @TDT0188
      @TDT0188 2 месяца назад +5

      Lifting heads is a fab problem? He floated valves and blew an MLS head gasket at 50psi boost. The fab work was fine.

    • @DJ_Driven
      @DJ_Driven 2 месяца назад

      @@TDT0188 I'm talking from the start of the project. Specifically when he did the side fender exhaust it all went downhill from there. But as of yesterday's video he announced going to the 2JZ which I was so hoping for.... this should be a much better outcome.

    No more electric talk ever. Electric is failing before it starts. We need hydrogen turbo charged direct injected Subaru. Hydrogen will be the next fuel. Electric will not last. Good thought but 25k for a battery system. Hydrogen turbo motors make serious torque. And put water in the fuel tank, Mazda just made a 379 ft lbs of torque turbo hydrogen inline 6 motor, 10.5:1 compression, hydrogen erra. Will still have the rumble 😊
