I read the deal didn't go down after the den. Probably because that website is full of scams and surveys that do nothing, there's a lot of "sign up to 'this' service and get a free thing", problem with that is the service is a monthly subscription on an X amount of months contract so you end up paying way more, especially when you realize you're paying full whack for the deal where you'd get a discount if you went directly to whoever is providing the service you're signing up to. O2, for example, has deals on all the time but if you want a free google home or something, you can sign up via the 'latestfreestuff' link but you miss out on the deal O2 are providing and more often than not, it costs you more than the £50 for a brand new google home that google charges.

I was referred to a last stage clinical trial by my doctor for a sleeping disorder. So far, it's been great! I didn't realize that I'd actually get paid for participating. I have to fill out a daily sleep log and turn it in to the office where I meet with the doctor for 10-15 minutes each week (I'm given $50/wk in cash for each visit). I did have to stay in the hospital for a 2 night stint (received $300 in cash) and have an upcoming 5 night stint ($1000) while hooked up to electrodes to monitor my sleep (or lack of). Honestly, I would have signed up without getting paid. I receive the medication free and if it continues to work for me, as long as it's still in trial, I can continue to receive the medication at no cost until it becomes available through prescription. I did quite a bit of research on clinical trials before accepting the offer to do it, and I decided that I would only be comfortable doing a low risk final phase trial. I didn't realize this initially, but after talking with a few staff members, there are people doing clinical trials that do it on nearly as a career -- especially if the medication or device being tested is for a self-reported disorder/medical issue like depression as opposed to something that is detected via lab/blood work, like diabetes. I was told that clinical trial participants are now limited to a maximum of three trials per year and trials for the same disorder obviously cannot overlap. I wouldn't participate in a trial unless I'd exhausted other available remedies -- I believe this is usually a requirement anyway. In the US where healthcare is incredibly costly compared to Britain, this is a great resource for people who cannot afford to pay for doctor's visits and medication to control a medical problem --as long as transportation isn't an issue. While it may be beneficial for them, it certainly is a sad state that we (The US) have thousands, even tens of thousands, of people who can only get help for a medical problem by signing up to take unapproved medication or devices. At the end of the day, I've been given access to a medication that is very helpful for my disorder. If people didn't volunteer for clinical trials, we'd never have newer and often better medications become available.
