- Laur Joamets brought his Peruvian Fuzz Strap in Cusco to Letterman with Sturgill Simpson. We didn't even know he was using one. He plays a ripping solo. This first aired on Letterman on February 12, 2015. Visit originalfuzz.com for more of our guitar straps.

Now THAT is how a Telecaster should sound. Jesus Laur Joamets is unreal.
Absolutely.
That guitar player popped a wheelie for the whole song.
It's like listening to Danny Gatton at times.
Totally. I miss hearing Laur Joametz in Sturgill's music - his fills are over the top and it really is clear how much source material he's studied!
@@StephenJamesGoodWill What's the story on Sturgill's guitarists over the years? Just discovered him.
@@LPManic he's Estonian!
Holy shit that guitarist is amazing
Damn, that's how Country music should sound, baby 🎶
Sturgill doesn't get the credit he deserves. He's a GREAT songwriter. I'm a musician and have been learning his songs. I just learned "Turtles". It sounds like a country song but it's not the usual verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus. It's a LONG verse, then a LONG refrain and then a weird little outro tacked on the end. It's fucking genius.
Totally agree. I think he’s ultra talented. Off the charts. LOVE his stuff.
way better than anything you can find floating around the radio today, thats for sure.@@kevinrenegar8757
He’s an amazing songwriter and turtles is so simple yet incredible I agree. Long White Line is actually a cover tho.
That lead guitar diffently got his shit together!
@@bobstone8667 Nio Kidding! Dude is from Estonia.
It’s simple. I see a Sturgill Simpson video and I hit “like.” 🤘🏼
Some people say country is dead, but it ain't dead you just got to know where to look
Amen brother, none of the shit mainstream “country music” this is real county music! What a voice sturgill has 👊🏻👊🏻
@@michaelburke2789 today's "country" sounds like nickleback with a southern accent. and it's all about the money and not about the culture. guess i got old
He reminds me of Waylon because of the attitude. He doesn't sound like Waylon. He sounds like sturgill.
His voice reminds me of a mix between Waylon and Clint Black. Very very unique
He's Waylon Jennings . Jon cash and the hag I hear it all
Well to me he’s like Jim Morrison but his guitar like Waylons it just has that sound...
Either way he sounds good. Even if he sounds a little like Waylon, that is definitely not a bad thing..
This man is a gem!
Thank God, real music still exists.
Sturgill rules! I hope he goes on tour again.
My wife is friends with Sturgill's wife, but I never listened to his music. I'm such an idiot!!!! I happened to go to his website and listened to his SNL performance, and the shoes blew off my feet!!! I really like the style he played on this show. Way to go, Sturgill!!!
No she's not
Your wife isn't friends with her .shut up idiot
He’s live performances are amazing look him up on RUclips
@@jakestokes398 You're a salty fellow, aren't you?
Yeah! You're an idiot? Haha Haha Haha
One of the best country songs ever.
i had stugills wife and 2 kids in my uber today...amazing kids nice lady...lucky man
Bob Turano that’s cool. Thanks for sharing.
Bob Turano not saying anything bad about you or Uber but why would the wife and kids of a well known musician take an Uber? You’d think they’d have a car of their own....just curious
Shawn Traveling probably makes it difficult.
I Design well see I live in the wonderful country where I don’t have to put up w a bunch of idiots all the time and I gladly drive myself as does everyone else out here. So, no, not everyone uses Uber
No you didn't
These musicians are solid!!!!!
God Bless It! I absolutely love Sturgill but the lead guitar is something of amazement !!
The whole band is great honestly.
Incredible. Awesome song. Lead picker is crazy.
Yes, stylish country picker.
That was some mighty fine picken. The drummer ain't too shabby either. Enjoyed this much much.
FANTASTIC DRUMMER
Pocket drummer for sure
Super talented. His own album called Solid Gold is tremendous. Sturgill produced it and Joametts plays all over it. He's not just a great drummer. He sings killer and plays guitar!
Tele heaven
I saw him in a club in Denver maybe a year or two before this album came out. There were about 8 people in the audience.
Those are the best shows though. I saw him a week before the pandemic and it was sold out arena.
@@monkeyfunky157 Rupp arena?
Waylon. Jennings. Oh my lord it’s uncanny…beautiful and perfect.
The Groove at 2:11 from the whole band is just so great.
Sounds good has a lot of hart in it his voice can make you feel it deep inside love it
Heart idiot
I miss Letterman. Sturgill Simpson is the real deal.
Laur Joamets on guitar .. :)
Gustav Franzsen
Hands down thee best guitarist of the Metamodern sounds of today
Agreed! The guy plays some incredible pedal steel licks on guitar. Tremendous.
Yup - he definitely has some Jim Campilongo style licks going in there.
Danny Gatton son's probably.
I miss Laur playing with him
I can't stop listening to this music! Oh my life! Cheers from Brazil
Just came across this guy…. Phenomenal!!!
He is a God to us! That sound and Tyler childers is our blood. Don't let it die.
Frickin' Amazing talent!
Awesome version. Really dig how they slowed it down a little.
That is one hard working guitar player.
He's a feenom.
Got that right
1:41 that guitar lick along with a million others in this song just kick some ass
Started reading the description thinking this was cbs yt channel. Then I realize it’s a fuzz company uploading it cuz this bamf of a guitar player is running their pedal. LOVE IT!This tele fuzz tone is stanky!
Make Outlaw Country Great Again
Josh Clark Brother you said it
Heck yes!
This comment did not age well
I don't think Sturg would classify himself as "outlaw country."
@@HazeGreyAndUnderway He never did
Don't get much better than this. Lars is a Tele Monster!
Lars plays with Drivin n Cryin now....
Rockin' band!
Been looking for the end of that long white line for a long time
Love this outlaw country
sounds like the ol'e boys, awsome man!!
Good ole truckin song!
Kevin Kendall... Amen Brother! Lord i been missin' Waylon. And then I clicked play.
Best part, just after it starts, you see someone turning the volume UP!!!
I will always love your sound you have the outlaw country I will always enjoy you love always your Sunshine 🔥🔆
Laur Joamets spankin' that Tele with COLOSSAL PERFECTION! DANG... Mr. Sturgill Simpson, thank you for your contributions to the music business and humanity. Good for you 'keepin' it real! ' I saw you 'buskin' outside the 2017 CMA's... You sir are a class act!
TRUE ARTIST 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
My favorite song in the whole world 💙🤍
Never knew Billy Strings could play the drums.
Miles Miller
Lets hear someone replay that solo....
I just want to let everyone know that Sturgill Simpson is, in fact, on the radio.
On country radio?
@@antislutful outlaw country
Not here.
Now this real country, not that garbage country radio plays.
Agreed. Sadly, the garbage on the radio is what drove me away rom country music. I basically gave up on it in the mid 80s. Then I found Sturgill, Brent Cobb & Chris Stapleton and I'm back in business. The lesson here is that just as rock has it's alternative genre, so does country. I'll be watching out for more artists like these.
Amen
Then check out Tyler Childers if you haven't already. Simpson produced his debut album last year.
Nashvegas sucks! Check out @wehatepopcountry on Instagram if you're on it. I bought a t-shirt from them that says POP COUNTY SUCKS
Check out Ray Wylie Hubbard if you haven't already.
Badass brothers.......
just wow man, thats some good shit
I like to imagine Dave saw sturgill backstage and told him to play whatever he felt like. “This crowd isn’t yours and you’re not gonna sell more records with my audience, but I am glad you’re here. So play whatever you want please.”
Probably with a “Paul loves you.”
Absotutely smokin!!!
Hell yes!
Waylon on ol'boy!!!
fuq. Laur totally rips.
sounds great even with a cold :D
Gettin some Waylon vibes from this boy. Damn good singin!
Possibly the greatest performance on RUclips.
Righteous country and reminds me of Waylon
great song right out of Waylon Jennings style. Excellent
His voice resembles Waylon's more than anyone I can think of.
Waylon lives folks
Billy Duffy is just as good at country as he is at rock guitar. Amazing.
I think you spelled Laur Joamets wrong.
Who’s Billy Duffy??
Kentucky
The drummer at the end: where's my fuckin handshake Dave
holy fuck i went to turn up the speakers the exact same time as the uploader did and I thought my PC was turned into a fecking tablet
🤣🤣🤣
Best Band Sturgill had.
Was thinking Waylon all the time
Kid on the guitar fuckin rips... Love me some sturgil!
The next real hardcore country musician
He trolled county music corporate. He is a genius. True to country.
Huge troll. Love it.
@@joelcampbell4589 what exactly is he trolling? honest question
Billy Duffy from The Cult Kicking Ass As Per.
getn it boy
I miss Dave by god.
I do too. It's not been the same since he floated away.
Laur is good. I wish he would get in another country band so we can continue hearing those awesome country leads.
Where can I hear him now?
@@chrislarcombemusic8445 He is in a band called "drivin N cryin".
At 0:28 the volume going up.. was anyone else like ' YO ..wtf going on here ?!?' And rewind to check ?🤣
lol yep
Amazing vibe, tasty as fuck guitar playing
Dostoyevski listens to sturgilllll!
Really liking this old school country not like the shit I hear going on today.
Tho I definitely prefer this in 432 hz.
But this is literally one of my favorite things in the world. And I'm not even a coke🥥🇨🇨🌴👃🏽🤧head or anything. Just absolutely love this song.
Did anyone else notice similarities between this song and " when the saints going marching in"? Melody wise. ( Not in a knock-off kind of way or anything like that )
I like this song a trillion times more
Sturgill is Waylon to Chris Stapleton's, Willie Nelson and country music is going to be alright.
1stSaintsFan - Tyler Childers sounds like himself and when you hear him you'll be glad of it.
I thought the guitar player had a hoodie on.
Dude it's time....
That's the most country shit I ever saw from somebody wearin Chuck Taylors!
The New Waylon?
The new outlaws Sturgill Simpson ,Wheeler Walker JR , and Jackson Taylor .
"Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes"
You know this old world is full of singers
But just a few are chosen
To tear your heart out when they sing
Imagine life without them
All your, radio heroes
Like the outlaw that walks through Jesse's dream
No, there will never be another
Red-headed stranger
A Man in Black and Folsom Prison Blues
The Okie from Muskogee
Or Hello Darling
Lord I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes
[Chorus:]
Who's gonna fill their shoes
Who's gonna stand that tall
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonball
Who's gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you
Lord I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes
God bless the boys from Memphis
Blue Suede Shoes and Elvis
Much too soon he left this world in tears
They tore up the Fifties
Old Jerry Lee and Charlie
And old Go Cat Go still echoes through the years
You know the heart of country music
Still beats in Luke the Drifter
You can tell when hew sings I Saw the Light
Old Marty, Hank and Lefty
Why I can feel them right here with me
On this Silver Eagle rolling through the night
[Chorus:]
Who's gonna fill their shoes
Who's gonna stand that tall
Who's gonna play the Opry
And the Wabash Cannonball
Who's gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you
Lord I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes
Yes I wonder, who's gonna fill their shoes?..
George Jones
no disrespect, however luke the drifter aint got shit on this Son of a By God coalminers daughter!!! just listen to little light within.
When someone says Hank Williams Sr doesn't have anything on Sturgill, it makes me sad. Then I realize they know nothing about music other than just hearing a sound and a melody.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I read that post and couldn't even come up with a response to something so ridiculous. Hank Sr was probably the most prolific songwriter ever and the emotion he put into the plain yet still deep lyrics he wrote wont ever be matched. And all accomplished in a few short years before he died so young. Much respect to Sturgill because he is a talented musician but he aint no Hank Williams Sr. No one is.
Even with an obvious cold, Sturgill kills it.
Was it singing through my nose ...
This is and always will be peak Sturgill
Sturgill is Sturgill and nobody else
dont listen to country at all but this is a great song
The guy on the telecaster sure has a large bag of tricks
Quentin Karamitsos I wanna say it’s Dave Cobb, producer of Sturgills albums and other country legends. Cousin of Brent Cobb and plays with Chris Stapleton live now, I could be wrong though
His name is Laur Joamets. He's one of my favorite players
He's with Drivin N Cryin now
His name is Laur Joamets.
Up a half step of the original. Really pushes it in your face.
nah that's the same key as on the album, F sharp. This version does kick ass though lol
Me too 😂
Morrissey definitely invented the earpiece camera shot
