They had to get permission in order to cover these songs in the first place. Maybe Pantera added the stipulation that they play it differently, maybe not but whatever, it's still recognizable as CFH. And for all the hater comments about Nickelback and their overplayed shit, deal with it. I listen to a lot of shit that gets played over and over AND OVER again that is so much worse than any of Nickelback's music, even at their worst. The DJs play it because it gets requests, people request it because, for whatever reason, they enjoy it.. So use your skip button or change the fucking station when that happens like the rest of us. I'm pretty sure that if Carlos Santana (you know, that Rock N Roll hall of famer that Rolling Stone magazine listed as their #20 best guitarist in Rock & Roll) wouldn't have cut two singles with Chad Kroger if he sucked as bad as so many people say. Oddly enough, a band doesn’t need permission or a license to preform covers live, that falls on the venue.

It is the club, restaurant, or concert venue that is supposed to obtain a license or licenses for generally hosting music performances, which includes the live music as well as the recorded music they play over the sound system. These are licenses from PROs, or performing rights organizations, namely ASCAP, BMI, SESAC. These organizations sell licenses on their websites. They also send agents to clubs and restaurants to try to get them to buy a license.”
Though, I’m sure some bands and artists try to seek the blessing of the original artist if they’re trying to work a cover into their setlist permanently.

Chad, it would help if you learnt the CFH intro first. Personally love Nickelback's mid career albums. They have a lot of respect for the old metal classics and it reflects in their music, especially most of the songs on The Long Road.
Lost respect from who? They sold 18 million copies of All the right reasons; follow up album to The long road and another 5 million sold with their Dark Horse album after that.
