Although the video will show you how you can install a folding generator rack from Harbor Freight or from possibly other retailers it really needs to point out more than anything else that the rear bumper on the RVs are very sketchy and some of them are worse than others like in our case. However we did get the rack modified and the bumper reinforced and a hitch Mount mounted but if I had to do it over again I probably would have just had a hitch welded directly to the frame of the RV and have it lower then the bumper. But again are RV sits awful low as it is and I would hate to have something hanging down even further than the bumper that I have already drug more than once going in and out of locations. So hopefully this will help you to avoid some of the mistakes I made and maybe change your mind about doing it in the same manner that I did. Again it works and there's no issue with that it's just a little bit more work and Fabrication that was required. Thanks for watching.

Great job on the work done. I love the fact you took us along with the whole installation process. It gives me more understanding of the process of how it is done. Thanks for sharing.

Been there done that. After a period of time the two U bolts that secured the receiver to my travel trailer bumper bent my bumper inward. I now have mounted four of the Mount and Lock square bumper cargo support arms. it moved my generator box closer to the trailer and works ever so much better.

Good Job guys. I think that if anybody would mess with it, you would know about it quickly. Mounting any sort of rack is going to be trial and error anyway so I think your job is going to work out well.

funny, I am in the middle of adding a receiver to the rear bumper of our 5th wheel. already posted 3 videos. the funny thing is that I did not see this video until after I finished that part on mine. I used the same bumper support kit. my bumper is a solid 4" tube. to small for a sewer hose. I currently just had hand surgery and had to stop the project for a bit. I have 2 more videos to go in order to complete the project. finish up on the electrical / mounting the cargo box and modifications to the project to help it be more secure. good luck and safe travels.

Love the in-depth explanations you provide in your videos. I just bought a 3100 Dual Fuel just to have if needed. I'm curious about the exhaust. If it is not practical to put the Generator 4 feet away is it possible to "extend" the exhaust somehow?

Very nice set up! Especially that you aren't hauling it back there it all you need. I have a different set up but I also pull a 3000 pound boat trailer behind the camper. Changes the dynamics a little. Have to balance out hitch weight in the front to keep weight distribution correct on travel trailer.

I removed the bumper and welded together a 24" rack on the rear to put my Honda 3000is on. I bolted it securely thru the mesh floor I used and also cable locked it on.

Had to smile about your view of online purchases. I hate waiting. Thats why for anything questionable I want a local supplier. Its worth it to me to even pay more, especially for warranty issues, so my job gets finished in a timely manner. Namely the same day I start it.

Cut a slot into the top of the bumper to match the cargo rack's tube, 2 minutes of welding, touch up paint...Done. That's what I did for a similar motorcycle carrier, and it's worked great for 4 years of full-timing.

I have a hitch that looks like that one you put on, to hold a bike rack. But since it fits so tightly to the camper I ended up taking it back off because I couldn't stand the rubbing noise it made while traveling. Made a big dent in the trailer too.

Thank you for sharing. Great job in making it work. I'm curious if it's held up after some time? I've seen a bike rack with a couple of bikes mounted to one of those "bumpers" and it twisted the bumper and eventually ripped the whole bumper off. They certainly are not designed to hold any weight.

Came across this video researching building a rack for my travel trailer. What is interesting is my travel trailer is the brother of yours. I have a 92 Terry 26-5N 5th wheel. Exterior is identical aside from the 5th wheel. I have the same couch too.

Where did you get the first brackets that you mounted to frame that cradled the bumper? Looking to do something like that too. Thanks

  • @NoWay-xu1ie

My bumper on my coachmen chaparral is well mounted. I used a harbor freight aluminum carrier. I fabricated brkts so my carrier sits on my bumper. I made hitch extension to get out past the carrier and made brkt that fastens to my hitch . It's a very strong set up. I'm going pull a small motorcycle trailer . I'm going to put my 100 lbs. generator and small tool box on the carrier. With a box over the carrier.

A thick rubber mat something like a truck bed mat under the generator my cut down on vibration. I think? How long will your generator run on one propane tank?

Hi Guys, I was wondering if you have used your generator very much since the install. I just picked up a 4000/3000 champion for this season as I have discovered if you don't book early enough there are only non electric sites left where we like to go.....wishing you a happy camping season in 2018!!!
