Today we are looking at how to use the Gigabyte Qflash system to update the BIOS on the Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX. The process is pretty much the same for any QFLASH enabled motherboard, with the exception of the actual BIOS file itself will need to be the specific one for your motherboard model, as i explained in the video intro.

I think you are the only one to show so many How to BIOS update 👍
yeah it is a bit of a niche for us
are you really apologizing for doing an "how to" video for being too long? i suppose its the "tik tok" generation where they just dont have the attention span these days , personally ithought it was the perfect length and covered everything you would want in a how to video
Thank you for the kind words
Everyone modern day has attention spans less than Goldfish, so GG

I've made a custom build for a friend and we were struggling to get it to boot as the bios out of the box was not updated and didn't support the CPU we've bought. We tried contacting the stores and repair shops around, looking for a CPU that we can plug in and get the system to boot, but nobody was willing to help :< Your video saved us! Huge thanks! Didn't even know that it's possible to update the bios without all the components working prior to this day
Glad I could help, hope the new build turns out great

I just used the wrong bios, it just didn’t want to flash. So I started everything again and discovered the right bios…. It’s currently flashing and hopefully everything else works. Your video is the best motherboard video I’ve seen.

You are a God sent for real. Had been battling with flashing my BIOS on a b650 aorus elite ax v2. It would turn on and 3 seconds later turn off. taking the RAM out fixed it and let me flash it. I was about to surrender on this mobo.

I've done q flash before, but I always like to reference a video when I work on my pc so I know I'm doing things correctly. Thanks for the straight forward information.

@@mikesunboxing Update: I got the B650e version of this and it supports all 7000 series CPUs out of box, I didn't even go into the bios. I swapped everything over and after the memory training, it booted right up into all my same settings and OS. I also didn't need to change any bios settings to boot on the proper M.2 drive that runs my OS.

Doing the BIOS Update atm. Without this video I would not have known to check if it was a rev 1.0/1.1 or 1.2. Furthermore this seems so much more straight forward than the official Gigabyte way to do it.

I think the video format and length were perfect. I understand what you mean about "going on for too long", however you are well-spoken with a clearly thought out path, don't worry about it :)

Thank you for this very precise guide. One thing I did wrong though was cleaning the wrong drive because I was not paying attention and used the same drive number as in your video. It is a stupid mistake but can be made easily if you don't pay attention. So be careful which drive you wipe!

Hi, Mike. I'm curious as to way you always flash the BIOS with the Q-Flash button, and not in the BIOS as I always do.
Lots of people can’t access the bios so it makes sense to start at the very basic low level, this is becoming more important as amd are releasing more and more am4 parts that even the freshest motherboard stock won’t be ready for.
The same will be happening later this year for the 9000 series on am5
I love that i just found this video and therefor your channel! I was thinking if i should update bios through this method or through the bios as i just got all of the parts necessary for my next build! I really dont want to mess something up so whichever way is safest or easiest to do im doing that
either way is fine, the method in the video is more for those without a working system.
welcome to the channel by the way
In this video there was only 1 file that populated in the ZIP folder. I downloaded the latest F30 updated and there are 3 additional files plus an EFI Folder. Are all of these other files required or should I only copy over the file similar to your video? TIA
just do the bios file ignore the rest of it

I read where Mike said it could be an incompatible USB drive so the board won't be able to flash the bios. My efforts so far are only resulting in the machine turning on for a second or 2 when pressing the flash button, then guessing it's trying to read the usb drive, failing and turning off. So as a last resort what exact USB drive, make, model, size, is recommended? Also, I'm downloading using a Windows 11 system, but the board is on a Windows 10 system, so I'm using the Windows 10 links. If that matters? Good clear video, seems so easy! lol.. Thank you.

Hey Mike, have/could you have a quick look into th red light issue on this mobo?
I was thinking of getting this mobo for a 7800x3d and ddr5 2x16gb 6000mhz cl30 build.
But would hate to have that red light issue and not have a possible fix/tutorial.
Also is the audio on this good enough for gaming audio?
Thanks
Mike
sure i can do but do you have any info to speed up my research? not heard of this issue before
Red Dram Light is still going on. just built my son a gaming pc and it will not post. red dram light stays on have tried to let it train the memory but after 30 minutes still no luck. I'm using a ryzen 5 7600x. after looking all over the internet their still is no solution. all i see is forums of people having the same issue and months later they still haven't solved the problem.
thanks for the video it's super easy to follow, however, your bios download had just one file. My download has 4 files and a folder, containing another folder with 2 more files. I have the same board and rev 1.2 and currently latest update is FB2. So is it safe to assume I can just rename file "B650AORUSELITEAX12.FB2" or do I need these other files?? D:
just rename the actual bios file, ignore the rest
This worked for me, but with weird behavior.
Upon pressing the button, all system fans started spinning, but that's not unexpected. It first flashed quickly, then slowly. Took about 5 minutes. So far so good.
Booted, shut down and went to BIOS to re-enable XMP. Apparently this caused another memory training from scratch, which, according to Gigabytes website, is expected to "take longer" on higher speeds. However, after 25 minutes I still had black screens on 32GB DDR5-6000. I just shut it off and turned it back on to which it booted normally. Now this exact problem also occured when I put this PC together...I'm not sure if this is behavior is expected on this board on a full initial memory training?
Thanks though, I found Gigabyte's own manual a bit confusing, yours was much easier to follow.
thanks and hopew that all is well now

try one stick of ram at a time
@@mikesunboxing I have tried that and it didn't work. Would it matter in which slots they were inserted? I tried with one in the A2 slot, then removed it and tried with the other in the B2 one.
More detailed:
I downloaded some GCC updates and when my pc restarted the DRAM light was on and there was no connection to monitor/keyboard/mouse.
I tried to reset memory with the manual button, and the red light was alternating between CPU and DRAM.
I tried resetting the CMOS, and the DRAM light was the only one on.
I tried booting with one of my two RAM sticks at a time to determine whether either of them was faulty, no difference.
What else can I try? I've read online to flash my bios but I'm not sure how that would work if the monitor/keyboard/mouse aren't connected.
Lastly, I attempted to flash bios but monitor won't respond. There is no signal.

Dunno if you will see this Mike but here goes, nobody else wants to help or even can help with this problem.
I bought a Ryzen 8600G and the board that was recommended as compatible was the Gigabyte B650 D3HP AX. I followed all the correct instructions for flashing the bios using a bare board but it will not flash from the usb. Ive used usb2 phat 32 with the correct bios downloaded from GB web site but it just will not flash. Ive literally spent over 40 quid on usb drives trying to solve this problem but to no avail. Ive formatted them ala your instructions, renamed the bios etc, tried all the ports besides the dedicated port and used around 12 different usb drives that are phat 32 and nothing. The psu fan spins the usbs light up but nothing flashes like its supposed to.
I cant find any help on line besides all the stuff ive followed already your my last hope. Do you think it could be a fault with the board? I only have 10 days left to return it and i cant see any other alternative unless you have any suggestions. Cheers in advance.

blinking for a few seconds is usually either a non supported USB stick or the file is wrong or damaged, try another drive maybe, or the board is just dead / dying
Great Video, many thanks!

short circuit somewhere? is it a bare board?
@mikesunboxing There is nothing else connected to the board. When everything is connected and the tower is powered on the fans and rgb are constantly powered. It's only when pressing the q-flash button that they whole board flickers on and off.
@mikesunboxing Essentially, when I'm pressing the q-flash button, the CPU light flashes and when I let go it stops flashing. At no point does the q-flash light come on.

checked the EPS power connections?
@mikesunboxing yes I have, I took a friend's advice and after cleaning the cpu which didn't appear dirty and had no bent pins or anything the cpu light was on with only the cpu in the motherboard, so I started connecting everything else individually to see if there was any change tried each ram stick in each memory slot both individually and paired, reconnected the GPU, then the SATA SSD, tried different pin connectors for all the fans , have the cpu fan connected and 3 system fans, needless to say I have looked over the entire build configuration and can confirm 100% nothing is out of place, other things I've tried;
-Took cmos battery out and reset the bios via the connectors
-Tried the reset button underneath the 24 pin connectors
-followed this guide to update by q flash for the latest bios version
Still, all I have is powering on with the Red CPU LED and nothing displaying on the monitor, I've tried all hdmi and display port outputs but nothing shows

Thanks Micheal. Shat myself then. 😂Updated new b650. Stick wasnt in fat 32. Ai my arse. Arxxole intelligence more like.🙆♀️❤👊🏼
glad it helped, all working well now?
I have a problem when updating BIOS, I have everything ready and when I press the button my motherboard turns on the CPU light and turns off. Help please 😢
sounds like a short circuit somewhere or the PSU not connected correctly
@@mikesunboxing I tested it with 2 different power supplies and with the first one only the white LED lit up when the motherboard receives power and with the second one it did what I mentioned first.

My new b650e elite x ax ice with 7800x3d and F5-6000J3040G32G is only posting with a single stick. Each of them works without issues alone even @6000MT/s - spend hole day trying out several bios versions, cleared cmos like 30x, cpu wiggle - nothing helps so far
that is odd, maybe a bad board or needs a bios update
Hi Mike... I just purchased a new mobo (aorus b650e elite ice) with 7800x3d. Problem though it says boot loader failed. It has 3 options that include ENTER BIOS but nothing happens if i click any option.
Would bios flash help me resolve this issue?
worth trying it
hi, thanks for the vid. when i press the q flash button the motherboard turns on for a moment then turns back off. i took out my gpu and ram incase those were somehow the issue and it still does the same thing. any ideas?
could be a short circuit somewhere or a faulty case reset or power switch
Good video bro, thank so much!!
No problem!
will this work if the whole pc is put together? it’s my first build and didn’t realize i needed to download bios. i followed the steps and when i held button the pc turned on then quickly off
sounds like a short circuit of something like the power button is stuck
how to know which rev motherboard i have?
It will be shown on the box and the board in print
i just bought the b760 for my new intel cpu, but the red dbug light turns on and it keeps shutting off with no display. is getting the usb going to fix it?
if it shuts off that sounds like a thermal problem or the power button is stuck or faulty
hi, can i follow these steps to update my gigavyte x670 aorus elite ax as well?
yeah same principle just a different bios file
@@mikesunboxing Awesome, thank you
I ordered arous b650m elite ax with r7 7800x3d do i need to flash bios ?
probably unless it is very fresh stock, and it is worth doing for the security and performance side of things
@@mikesunboxing how I'm going to know if it's fresh bios ?
Ive just updated my motherboard but i found out it was an rev 1.0 and it wont update the bios again what should i do
I was and still am struggling. I joined your discord to get help, the guy just basically said "don't bother doing it" "if it's working, you don't need to bios update" totally not helpful at all!
reading back it seems you were struggling with the concept of unzipping or extracting the bios files? it that still the case
The problem wad/is there is no unzip option from what I can see.
Hey Mike, do you need the cpu power connector connected to the motherboard. Or is it an option?
i think you need it, but you are welcome to try it without and report back how it goes
@@mikesunboxing I will try to remember to report back 😅
I have more than 1 file in the downloaded folder. I have:
- EFI (folder)
- B650AELITEAXICE.F30 (F30 file)
- efiflash SOP (pdf)
- Efiflash.efi
- flash.nsh
what do i do?
rename the f30 file ignore the rest
after creating a new volume, i could only select NTFS and exFAT. i chose exFAT. does this also work?
no sorry, it needs to be a fat32 partition, maybe your drive is too big and needs a smaller partition created on it. We have a video on how to do that as well
@@mikesunboxing thank you. i just figured that out myself, it is a 64 gb stick. i will try to create a partition or just find a smaller one
bios updates scare me enough as is so i will just stick to doing it through the bios settings knowing my luck doing it this way i will mess something up and have an expensive paper weight
you do it however you feel comfortable with. Thanks for watching
@@mikesunboxing oh I know I was just saying I know all of the things that can happen if you get the wrong bios or a power outage or surge happens at that moment in time it's a important thing to update but not fun to do once you start the process cause there's no backing out till it finishes and is hopefully successful and your welcome glad I found your channel very informative
Hey dude good video but how I did it was I plugged in usb drive and then formatted it to fat32 and then downloaded the bios. After I copy and pasted it to the usb drive and then I extracted it and deleted the name except for the dashes. Now I see in the usb drive that there are two files one EFI which just has a boot file and then one bios file with like 5 different parts to it? Is this correct? Can I just change the bios to gigabyte.bin and then eject the drive? Thank you man
yes you just want the bios file and unzip it and rename it
@@mikesunboxing ahhh I see thank you but another question? What happens if I don’t unzip it? Would that mess things up?? I finished ejected the usb but not sure if I unzipped it. Thank you
Okay so I’ve finally updated my bios thinking that it’d solve my problem of monitor not displaying whenever I restart pc but it didn’t work :(
But do you know why it’s like that? My pc seems to work fine except the restarting part. Monitor no display but pc is still on and the dram led light is red???
Please help thank you :(
Also good video too thank you dude I finally updated bios after so long thanks to you :D
sounds like a ram training issue. either reset the cmos or try one stick of ram at a time
@@shrimpfryry6927 Did you ever find a fix currently struggling with that dram light as well
@@gabrielgonzales1860 did you have the same problem with a restart issue? Or was it something different??
@@gabrielgonzales1860 hey did you end up fixing it??? I think it’s a problem with ram did a windows memory diagnostic and detected problems and will do memtest soon. Did you find or fix anything???
Thanks🤓
dude!
Muy bien explicado.
Hi, does the ver 2 of this mobo still needs to be q-flash?
I would recommend flashing it anyway regardless as there are always new security fixes and stability patches that need to be applied
You mister, you just sabe my life :D
haha glad to hear it, have a great day
super helpful thanks a lot
Glad it helped!
Mine flashed for about a minute and a half is that okay?
sounds quick but might be okay
So my pc just turns on when i hold and then it turns itself off after a while
power button or reset stuck?
@@mikesunboxingso I have taken everything out of my pc and doing it the way you have shown me on the video, the board flashes quickly for a minute but then turns itself off and stops flashing so I don't know what's going on
@@mikesunboxing Have similar issue here. Following your instruction, I was able to get the Q-flash light to flash for one minute, looks like everything was running. but then it turns off. then I tried RST-SW, as well as short circuit the RST pins, the mobo does not turn on.
On the second try, I put in GPU/RAM, then Q-flash it up. GPU and CPU Coolor fans running; PSU fan not running; RAM led light went up. No Graphic output. The Q-flash light was flashing for 1 min then turns everything off. then RST_SW and RST pins, still not turned on.
For now I'm suspecting on the RST pings and button not working, will wait for the case to come in and try it with the case switch

i've had to downgrade my bios to stock cause the latest bios makes my sata drives unusable
someone else mentioned that about B650 and SATA
So am i just forgetting to rename it?
maybe?
did this and my ram light is no and no display i think my ram is cooked... i made this pc 2 months ago man
try reseating he RAM or try one stick at a time

buddy. You really wanted to suck all the life out of something so simple. So much unnecessary fluff
maybe consider others that need the time and extra detail as they are a little scared to do this. These videos go out to a very wide range of people some of them possibly their first ever build.
