  • How do NBA players make reads and decisions?
A highly common question I receive as a coach is How do NBA players make reads and decisions, so I thought I would answer it in this video!
Basketball provides many challenges for players to face, teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks optimise their defence to completely prevent you from finishing at the rim, others like the New York Knicks aim to out muscle and hustle you on both ends and other NBA teams like the Golden State Warriors try to force you off the 3 point line in to Mid Range Jumpers.
Making reads and decisions really comes from your ability to see the floor. But it is more than just dribbling with your “eyes up.” You have the have the IQ and knowledge to understand where you need to be looking and where you shouldn't be looking.
This is known as the Perception - Action Coupling. What you perceive drives your action. So, if you are looking at everyones shoes because you don’t feel comfortable attacking with your eyes/chin up, all you are going to perceive is that everyone has cool shoes.
But, if you know where to look, you will begin to make amazing plays and start to really have a positive impact on the game! Learn more through watching this video!

I feel like reading your main defender should be the main thing and then you read your help defenders. But then again I’m 13 and my dad says I don’t have enough IQ yet.

Always be ahead of the defense. Reading help early can open up many opportunities. Never worry about main def because they’re always guessing what you’ll be doing

You always gotta see the entire play before it happens if ima hood ball handler or ik I have a mismatch and/or I’m confident I can easily beat my man I need to analyze where the help is gonna come from and where I need to deliver the ball to if my path is cut off by help

So the signal means they paying attention to the offense and the noise is they are not relate to it anymore because they have another objective?
