    He’s only 23 and playing like he’s already in his prime. If he isnt in his prime now and there is an extra gear that he can hit, its going to be a scary sight for teams across the league. And the craziest thing about it is that I do believe his game can improve. But i think whats even scarier is that i truly believe that he will be able to sustain this level of production for years to come. Even past his physical prime. His game relies so little on athleticism that it’s not hard to imagine him being a 35 year old veteran still doing crazy numbers as his already elite mechanics, IQ and feel of the game continue to sharpen.
    Luka to me is truly a one of a kind player. I dont think we’ve ever seen a player dominate with this level of poise and maturity so early on in their career. Usually young superstars have to rely on using their physical strength and explosiveness to make a name for themselves but Luka has essentially created a new blueprint for newcomers.

Also, as I watched Doncic go through his reads and respond, I got the image of how he and players like him are the equlivalent of football quarterbacks and running backs, floor generals who can finish plays unless the defense gives them a more favorable option.

    It's pretty facinating because I'm been looking at the numbers and he's putting up numbers that are super elite. He doesn't (to me) look all that gifter just watching his play, compared to say Jordan which just watching him play you knew he was just different from everyone else. I used to call him cat slick, because his timing was like a cat playing amounds dogs. Luca looks just like one of the dogs, but his results are up there with Jordan, and I would never have though that was possible. Let's see if he can maintain that level for 15 years.

    It helps to be “unguardable” by constantly palming the ball and frequently traveling on step backs - the Harden trick. I admire Luka’s B-ball IQ and competitiveness, but I am getting sick of his constant rule violations and his constant complaining to the refs.

    • @radpay
      @radpay Месяц назад

      1. Everyone palms, and this trend started in the late 90s primarily because of Jordan. At this point, that problem is not specific to Luka or any other players.
      2. You need to review the NBA league office's "clarification" of the 'gather' issued in 2012. I don't like it any more than you do, but the stepbacks are legal. Violations still happen occasionally but players like harden, steph, and luka have refined their stepbacks to the legal limit.
      3. Everyone is sick of his complaining, but it's not relevant to his unguardable status because the officials are currently cutting him less slack because of the whining.

    Luka Dončić unguardable?
    Ben Simmons will lock Luka up on 9/10, and this season's playoffs showed how guardable Luka is.
    IMO people confuse high volume and ball dominance with high performance and high potential.
    Elgin Baylor attempted the most career field goals per game (23.8).
    Elgin joined the NBA around the age of 24.
    Luka (already 23 years old) averages 19.7 SPG.
    Luka was drafted at 19.
    Luka is ball dominant (needs to be).
    Luka is the Mav's primary producer, so his PPG chances are higher for now.
    Luka will slow down with age, and Luka will slow down when he gets help (teammates).
    When I think of unguardable (at their position), I think of players like Shaq (hack a Shaq was created because of him).
    But Luka is too unique (and young) for me to count him out, so I'll keep an open mind.

    People think it's all about just blowing by people. I played with a guard in college who changed speeds so well he always had defenders off balance. It's like a great running back in football. who changes speeds to use his blockers. Luca is like a great running back pausing, changing speeds to create space to score.

    I'm surprised nobody in these videos name what's probably Luka's main offensive asset: Footwork. Dude doesn't give any more steps than what's needed for any given move, has an economy of movement than more than compensates for his size and less innate athleticism when compared with other (on paper) much more athletic guys. He's incredible in his fundamentals and that, alongside with his obvious court vision and BBall IQ is where the rest of his offensive game is built upon. None of what's pointed in this video would be possible for him to do if he didn't have the footwork he has.

    Something I don’t understand is that if you have to go against someone who doesn’t relax and is Always prepared and playing good defense, how do you prepare. Ik you said at time like 3:30 that you know where you are going and the defender doesn’t so you can use that to be a step ahead but if you aren’t as athletic or explosive, which is pretty much the point I think, shouldn’t the defender be able to catch up.

    Luka is strong and knows how to use his strength like Barkley to score in the paint. He has a lightening quick cross-over for a guy his size. He's special. He might be the most hybrid of hybrid players now. It doesn't hurt that he can hit outside shots from anywhere with confidence. He'll be a top 10 or top 5 player of all time if he stays healthy.

  • @EduSanjuan777
    @EduSanjuan777 2 года назад

    Short breakdown: He is insanely good at everything except running and jumping, and even at that he is above average if you compare him with players 6'7 or more. Ballhandling, passing, shooting pull up threes, stepbacks, floaters from 3p line, the Dirk fade, floaters, layups with either hands, you name it he does it better. Hence he is bigger and better than you so he bullies you. Not rocket science.

    Luka is the 2nd best in the NBA, and the more he becomes a point guard, like his buddy Jokic, the better he will get. Sure he can always score 40, but when he starts getting 15 assists/game, he will truly be unstoppable.

    Luka is so smooth, not quick and fast, cant jump high, but his moves looks so easy for him. Just like Steph Curry, slow dribble, no fancy quick irving style but passes defenders like butter. Irving uses too much energy to make a move, but Luka and Curry uses only little energy and more of a talent.

    I won't call Luka unguardable before he is an elite 3 pt shooter. His 3 pt shooting percentage was above average late in the year. But I am not sure if he has to discipline to keep it there. At this point, he only an OK scoring option on a mediocre team. The MVP talk is STUPID.

    It’s the skill on the ball coupled with fakes and knowledge of when exactly to wrong foot the defender.
