@@hnyflvr Not just sports, he could speak 3 languages fluently, he had a little French for trash talk, he was a book worm, he was creative with his shoes then media after basketball, I just watched him in a video talking about making companies to make sure your finances after sport were good, the guy taught himself Moonlight Sonata by ear all alone. The guy didn't go to college. The scariest thing about Kobe is if you take athlete away from his resume, he'd still would have done more than most people have done in their whole lives. Granted being an athlete gave him access to all those things, the thing is he didn't have to do anything of those things he did off court. He still chose to do them regardless.
He was a student and of the game, he really tried to look for every edge and see every angle. He maxed out on his talents because he had the intellect to do it.
I think he can coach a talented player but I doubt he can relate to the luke walton's of the world. Not every player can handle Kobe, even some talented players can't handle it so much more for the less talented.
That would create a new challenge for him that Jordan never did or none of his contemporaries were able to pull off successfully. Bird came the closest but lost in the Finals (to his Lakers for him and Shaq's first chip). The rest of the coaches who won championships that are ex-players weren't on Kobe's level to be considered a true contemporary except Bill Russell.
i bought espn+ just to watch the pacquiao fight then cancel. but found this on it just today, and thinking about keeping it around for just this.. at 28 it doesnt really help me anymore, but still super interesting analysis from possible the GOAT of bball fundamentals..
Remember when Kobe had 49pts/10 assist in 2008 playoffs. Read and react. Kobe is a great passer. He just doesn't go fishing for assist. That wasn't his role, but when he decided to he could definitely fill the stat sheet up.
Nowadays NBA players want to stand behind the 3 point line and jack up 90 threes a game. That isn’t basketball. Basketball is slashing inside turn around jumpers wide open threes dunking, shot creating etc. Sometimes I hate Curry for revolutionizing the game.
I will never stop watching these. I know people like to throw IQ around, but listening to this man talk and break down the game and watching how he played on both ends of the floor. He had real basketball IQ to me.
I hope Tre Young is seeing this! Kobe has just showed him the blueprint for his success in the league. With his ball handling skills and shooting range he really has the potential to be special!
He is right. And it can also be fixed by trae young not trying to force himself cause only reasons you take those shots is if your forcing the situation and your shot instead of letting it develop
Trae needs to learn goat language and listen. I’ve seen the same things, he doesn’t look to pass in these summer league games. Passing will alleviate pressure from him, allowing him more scoring opportunities.
i'm sure you know that stats do not tell the whole story. Trae has the ability to pass but he looks to score first. if you watch him play you see that passing is his last option. He brings the ball down the floor and looks to shoot the 3, then the mid range, then drive. Most of the time he passes only when he is forced to. And many of those passes come as the result of a rotating big meeting him at the rim.
I'm 6'2 and I see you dont actually watch the games. Hes literally being praised for his passing in summer league. His first 2 games sure he tried to shoot but hes shot less and less each game
After watching a recent interview with trae young, you can see that he has watched this film on himself and added it to his game haha love it. kobe you are a legend. all the best.
I gotta say that the second shot was a much better look than the first. The big man was already boxed out by the time Trae pulled up, so dishing it out to him to force other defenders to close the gap wouldn't have been a safe option. The first clip though, ALL DAY, you gotta make that pass.
So watching Kobe break down this film makes me wonder if during his playing days he really didn’t trust his teammates so he took some of these style of shots or if he has become more of a basketball savant since retiring
Bellthebeast7235 yeah he really didn't trust a lot of them. More specifically when Shaq left and he had all those bums. He said before the best play was for him to score a lot of the time. But he still has more assist than almost every (maybe MJ) SG ever and lead all SG in assist plenty of years.
terrell calloway I wouldn't say he was trash in high school. It might have been the way he played wasn't desirable at the time....even if he was, overcoming being trash and constantly having to prove himself is what made him the greatest. If it come too easy you not hungry enough to go get it.
mostly what Kobe is saying is common sense in an ideal situation. Plus quick reflexes and decision making is a plus. I use it when playing NBA2k on Xbox.
The craziest think about this show is how obviously brilliant Bean is in terms of basketball IQ and how he quite often disregarded that brilliance by taking ULTRA DIFFICULT shots and trusting his own abilities above that of his teammates... I’m a huge Kobe fan and his results speak for themselves but had he been a more efficient player his legacy wouldn’t take nearly as many hits as it does... he’s still a 🐐 though
It's amazing how well he articulates his thoughts on these plays. Most people who are great at something usually have a hard time explaining it to others. They just do it and expect you to understand. Kobe would be a phenomenal coach.
Second play makes a lot of sense for a guy like Trae to shoot the three. The moment he establishes he can hit it in the high 30als he basically killed the whole defensive scheme on that pick and roll and that will open the lane even more for the rolling big.
You guys are cracking me up haha. Not saying he wouldn't be a good coach but this is the most basic shit ever in this video. Just goes to show how many fans know nothing about the basic principles of basketball. Nothing in this video is indicative of him being potentially the greatest coach ever.
Nate B. who doesn't that's not noobs lol its all about reacting to how the defense rotates BUT I HATE 2K WHEN THEY MAKE YOU MISS FULL BAR OPEN SHOTS SHIT PISS ME OFF😠
His basketball IQ is second to only Jordan, and could probably rack up more assists than any other SG if we wanted to. He simply chose to shoot 97% of the time instead even though he knew it was wrong. Still top 3 ever
Denno Johnson You do know we learn things from greats. And one of the greatest minds of basketball is giving lessons but you are preferring to blame him rather learn. No point in continuing this argument I guess.
One thing that I will miss about Kobe is his intelligence.
Facts.... his sport intelligence was off the charts 💪🏽

That was SOOO cathartic.. just hearing him speak about basketball like this sounds so pure
Still watch these.. always give me chills to hear him teach the game so easily.
These things are absolute GEMS man more people need to see these!
Kobe just coach the Lakers already
That would be so awesome he knows so much more thn luke Walton
ROB I was thinking the same
I think he can coach a talented player but I doubt he can relate to the luke walton's of the world. Not every player can handle Kobe, even some talented players can't handle it so much more for the less talented.
ROB i think he already said that he'll never coach a team

Its crazy, this was his voice a year ago, now hes gone. I have no words.

We miss u already Kobe..
It's very unfortunate what happened to Kobe. Would have been a blast seeing him coach a team someday.
I’d be tripping out if I was Trae Young, Kobe analyzing your game and trying to see how you can destroy defenses
Remember when Kobe had 49pts/10 assist in 2008 playoffs. Read and react. Kobe is a great passer. He just doesn't go fishing for assist. That wasn't his role, but when he decided to he could definitely fill the stat sheet up.
When Kobe talk you listen!!
Kobe was such a genius I will miss these breakdowns shows from him
That’s what’s brought Trae to the conference final. Attention to DETAIL
I honestly think this detail changed Trae Young's game if you compare this video to how he plays now.
The game has a void in it now. :(

Trae young def still watch this

Ik I may be a lil weird but straight up sometimes I just watch these videos just hear Kobe’s voice….
He would of made the next great coach with his analytical mind and genuine passion for the game.
Kobe out here giving the cheat sheets to player's greatness
Why Kobe on the first play says to pass the ball knowing damn well Kobe wouldn’t pass the ball he would shoot too
Rutledgem he's number 1 in assist by shooting guards. So I think he did pass
hassan haulcy Reggie Theus definitely has more assists than Kobe at Shooting guard dummy do your research for you come at me
Rutledgem so what Reggie theus played point guard a lot of times and Kobe still almost has as much assists as he did as a pure shooting guard
He was a great passer but he would take retarded shots. There’s videos of him shooting over double teams when there’s people wide open.
#Dubnation ye not gonna lie kobes shoot selection at times made me scratch my head
Rest In Peace ✌️

YaBoi Rob better, but probably still not the best since he took a little to long to pull up.
I’m in 6th grade and is this good that I’m understanding this as a basketball player
Trae young definitely applied this to his game
I like how Kobe is reading these plays
Mamba you are missed greatly.
Kobe is a brilliant basketball mind.. man always makes me think
Kobe da real GOAT
Because he explained basic basketball principles? He basically talked about the pick and roll the whole time. WOW!
shaneth138 no, because he's the closest thing to Jordan you fuckdweeb
So exiced to see Kobe doing this kind of analysis of the game!
Kobe just Coach the Lakers already PLEASE.

Lebron the goat Yea kobe is a 2 guard not a pg .. what's a sg primary job, to score or to pass? Kobe also averaged 5 asts per game as a 2 correct ?
30th all time assists.
