- First time coming across this issue with a Honeywell Thermostat. Anyone else have this issue before? I almost incorrectly diagnosed this 🤣

Lesson learned start at the thermostat first and work your way up due to the nature of that call 💯

You invoking Jesus all the time, that first call, you got the mmm,hmm from the lady😂😂😂. Hold the Jesus thing down. He ain’t got nothing to do with the ac not working or you walking to get to the property. Good call on the motor.
2nd call, where are your jumpers? A quick hook up on the control board would let you know if the board is bad or tstat has gone away. Pull the control wires off any board and put the jumpers on. This is so you can get out of guessing. You are meter reading through the board, no way to do that. It’ll keep you guessing. Jumpers, you become the tstat, hookup the jumpers then you know tstat or board is acting up, plus you’ll spend less time in the attic. Good vid. You’re getting it.
Always ohm the wires when they are disconnected so you do not get resistance from another source.

Definitely should have check the programming. With a unit that new I believe it is a great possibility that the Tstats programming was screwed up
Someone please tell me what program sends a constant 24v call to W when the thermostat is set to Off...even on a heat pump reversing valves are only energized on that specific call. B for heat on Rheems O for cooling everything else (that I have experienced so far)

A friend of mine had a new install (Rheem package unit, Honeywell Tstat) (I was out with surgery) The Tstat failed and turned the heat strips on. I checked it, the unit, the wiring and replaced the Tstat. 6 months later the new Tstat failed again in the same way. It almost killed a couple of cats - 95 inside.
I've seen it many times with that particular thermostat, O/B and W are the same, if you go into install menu on the stat, you'll find it has gone into heat pump mode and O/B is energized!!
But then it would've been that way from the jump when it was installed and the unit has been there since April. That doesn't seem likely. O/B terminal is for a completely different wire as well

Yeah...I only have R,G,Y,W,and C and even if that was the case that W would be energized if O/B were to get energeized (if programmed for a heat pump) that would require the thermostat to still either be in the COOL or HEAT mode to energize that O/B circuit which I guess would still somehow energize W on that style stat. But my thermostat is set to OFF. I dont think there's any programming on any thermostat that would energize any low volt circuit if the thermostat is set to OFF. That's why I'm confident it is a bad thermostat and not some bad programming that somehow showed up and appeared after 4 months of working

Sometimes the thermostat like that is set for heat pump. this causes the thermostat to energize w1 all the time. Should of just checked the program on the thermostat. FYI
That literally makes no sense as to how that could be a possibility after 4 months of it being installed. If out the box it'd be like that we would've found out on the initial install
I'm like everyone else Honeywell thermostats were great once a upon a time. I hope you don't replace it with another Honeywell there just plane crap.

I don't understand checking LV ohms if it's not blowing fuse? Just measure voltage between common and the rest to see what's energized...
Like I realized W was being energized but I wanted to know why. That's why at the end of it I had my meter set to continuity disconnected W from the board and checked continuity with power off to see if the thermostat was making a path.
Dumb question but since the thermostat is the brains and makes the call to the condenser, if it goes bad that means it won't make the AC work? Because it isn't making the call to the condenser?
I think it actually would make the cooling call but I think it would also run the heat at the same time. If it was visible on video the app had told me it went through heat AND cool cycles so I think it ended up doing just that

I don’t know why you were ohming stuff out. I would’ve went up in the attic saw the furnace was running checked between C and W and saw that you were getting 24 V get the hell out of that attic and go down to the thermostat. Those attics are dangerous.
I was ohming to stuff out to check to see if things were making a path. I just didn't think it was a stat issue at first that's just how my brain worked in that moment...but aye, i got it fixed tho ✊🏽
@@AB_HVAC unless you had a short and it was popping the three amp fuse really isn’t no need to ohm. But it’s fixed.

Some people are saying it was a bad programmed thermostat but the unit was installed in April with that exact thermostat. No way it went through the whole summer doing that
@deanmartin1966 not a homeowner, it's a tenant. And even if they messed with it, the thermostat by design should not energize any circuit if the stat is set to off no matter the program. That's my understanding. That's why I figured it was a stat wiring issue at first
Thermostat programming wrong. Not a bad thermostat
What program makes the thermostat in the OFF FAN AUTO mode, run heat mode continuously. That makes no sense. I'd be willing to believe that if the unit was installed yesterday or whatever but that unit was installed in April with that thermostat. If there would've been a programming issue it would've showed it's head by now.
@deanmartin1966 if the thermostat is set to OFF, nothing should be running, for any system. This unit could not have been operating for 4 months like this without property management notifying us.
Not tenants, they call and bitch to property management's that they pay rent on time and their AC doesn't work.
Those stats are junk
Which ones are you talking about the Honeywell or the Pro1?
