Found Multiple Issues On A Callback | HVAC

This was an odd callback to go through, and after a fairly long day it took me editing this video to find out that this system just simply seems oversized. Don't know why I had that brain fart but due to the ductwork here already and how the system was performing in comparison to the other units here, I believe this is just simply installed wrong but I could be wrong and not afraid to admit it....

Should have got the klein one. Much smaller
I didn't even know Klein made one, I thought they stayed on the multi-meter/hand tools side
@AB_HVAC ET110 Look up their boroscope too Klein ET17
Everyone's have problems with aluminum evap coils. You can add a small piece of silver solder to the coil pan to help prevent the bacteria (zooglia) from forming in drain line
Nice tool to have ngl
It is! I definitely like this newer model they have, the older one took batteries and had a smaller display i think
Nice review AB. I like it!
Great review AB, looks like a nice meter.
I really like it, thanks for checking out the video!
%$&&^ you Jacob screwed up the review. Just kidding. But a good review. It looks like a great piece of kit!
Re pipe the condenser
Left residential hvac specifically due to customers like this
No it's a pain the new refrigeration
As in the new refrigerant is a pain to work with?
What’s the water pump ya got?
M18 Transfer Pump
Do you glue the pvc sections together?
Yeah u did that after the fact. I'm pretty sure in the video I zoom in on some joints to prove I glued it
@@AB_HVAC Thanks.
Pull through coil; ie negative airflow to the drains need a breather after the trap.
The breather is me leaving the top off the exit of the trap, it works the same
@ that is what I mean by breather. Not sure if there’s other ways of doing it.
@HallelujahHVAC ooohh, my bad 🙏🏽
That was a great job, I think that’s the best way to get the drain line installed
It's amazing how many newer homes i (probably a lot of us) still see with flat/level drain lines
Did you go to trade school or straight to work ?
I started in community college taking HVAC courses. COVID Lockdowns hindered me from completely finishing the program but I got my first HVAC job doing light commercial install on hotels while still going to school.
Nice brother. I’m starting my new job as an installer helper/apprentice type thing this week for senica air conditioning here in Florida. All I got is my EPA universal and a hvac residential cert both from SkillCat so no formal hands on training all online. Wish me luck😂
Are they not required to insulate the drain they will fail us in North Carolina if it’s not insulated all the way to the wall
It's never been a requirement down here as far as what I've seen us do on new construction
I used nylon rolled tubing (not soft vinyl tubing) on my AC drain line that I installed 1990 and have had no issues. The pipe is translucent enough that you can see the water running down the line and it is so slippery that nothing sticks to it.
Welp we haven't used the AC so we're in heat season
It's kind of back and forth down here. It's getting cool at night but by 12/1 it's hot enough to turn the AC on
That healthy clean looing Rheem unit sounds good too
I definitely am a fan of all their style systems. I don't like their evap coil designs but that's about it.
9:17 lol bro I do stuff like that on the job daily 😂
Man I'm telling ya 😅
Nice job. Clean up work area when your done. You left old parts and pieces of pvc and did not look good when showing customer the finished job.
Good job AB. Another satisfied customer.
I still would have put my vacuum on the drain outside and sucked it out, it still may come back, the drain is sloped well not but water was overflowing the old open switch that was 3" above the floor and it should drained unless it was higher at the 90 before the vertical drop.
Idk man, that was a steady stream, considering there was nothing draining at all when I got there
The issue they never had a vent after the p in original so it wasn’t flowing 🫠
They make them coils aluminum now to be cheap that’s the main reason for drain lines getting clog more often
I just figured it was because the water was sitting in the line too long causing it to sit and just buildup the bacteria that backed it up
@@AB_HVAC but you did not clean any of the crud out of there, it can be 90% blocked and still drain. pouring water in the vent to see it it really drains fast or pouring cleaner to open it up
Nice work AB.
Sounds like she's happy now. Nice Fix! l like how you tagged her evaporator panel up in the attic with your sticker. Ha ha! Have a great weekend!
Thanks 👍
It's awesome to see your content bro keep doing your thing man making that big HVAC 💰💰💰💰 I know it's rewarding career
Thank you for tuning in man! It is very rewarding making sure people are comfortable again in their home
Gotta lift both.. otherwise backup will fail also (or at least will have a chance at failing)

Good job guys!

😅
@@AB_HVAC ruclips.net/video/su56rdSvQBU/видео.html at the 1:11 mark
Heat rises so that is not a safety hazard it’s a pretty common thing it won’t come out of the water heater exhaust however the exhaust on the water heater looks like it goes down instead of up which is a safety hazard. If you turn the hot water on and stuck your hand by the draft diverter you’d probably feel heat bc it’s not drafting right.
I'll go in the invoice rn and notate that, thanks for the note!
Great video!
THANKS!
Checking gas leaks with a lighter. Brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣 Nice gas leak find!!
I'm not joking either lol
@@AB_HVAC I mean, yeah, you're gonna find the leak for sure, but.... 😬
Just got home from working on one of these furnaces but it was acroaire 4 years old and a cracked heat exchanger
Dang, you think it was just manufacturer crap or you find something else wrong with it?
@ so I’ve only been in the trade 2 years and we scope heat exchangers with the company I work for…. And let me tell you any design that has a Bryant style heat exchanger I find cracks so often. Carrier, Payne, Bryant this acroaire today was designed just like Bryant and big ol crack down the middle…. Bryant is the most common furnaces I find cracks in
@ so to answer your question yes I think Bryant makes terrible heat exchangers
Huh, that's crazy. I normally find them in the Goodman Package units or Lennox ones down near me. But from what everyone tells me in the comments the systems I work on have too small of returns, so I wonder if that plays a factor in it
Good man finding that leak. That flex connector running into the furnace isn’t code. I don’t think that the tee on the flue pipe is an issue though.
The amount of code violations we all see on a daily is just ridiculous
I saw that immediatly.
For a bit of context if it's not clear in the video, the furnace and water heater are located in the garage of a tri-level home. Return doesn't seem to be sealed as good as it could be either.
Return air is choked off.
That's what I figured
Hey love the videos I’m 19 going into the trade and I feel stupid all the time but I’m glad if we don’t make mistakes we’re not learning
Oh 100%. I'll never forget the learning experience of misdiagnosing a bad heat exchanger 🫠
The trap holds oil
You did the best you could do!
That was clearly not enough return .
🤣🤣 that's what I'm saying
If they are running AC leaving the fan on will raise the humidity in the home bc the blower will continue to run and blow across that wet coil. You can go up to half ton bigger for the indoor vs the odu. But not vise versa. Make ports by using an inflator tip that can go betweeen cracks and it’s a smaller hole you have to make to check static. Was the fan on the “on” position when you got there?
No I should've been more clear, I just told them to leave it ON for overnight to help with drying up the return. I understand you can go a half ton bigger, but these apartments original systems when built were 2 ton condensers on 2.5 air handlers. Going up to a 2.5 ton all the way around makes sense to me, but not going up a half ton indoor and outdoor on an apartment where I can't do much ductwork changes without ripping down drywall everywhere
👍
If the a coil is not freezing up, inspect the A coil drain pan for cracks with that much water in the Aux pan. Just because it is new, it could be plastic and cracked.
Well that's just a "/" style coil and there's no cracks in the pan that I can feel. I twas draining water very well through the pvc by the end of the call but the suction line was HEAVILY saturated, but I just chalked that up to my 70% humidity. But even then, the suction pressure was slowly dropping as the unit ran but then it'd steadily drop the SH as well which made me think in low load conditions the coil would freeze up
What kind of pump were you using to empty the pan
@jimjeffries5564 a Milwaukee M18 Transfer Pump. Definitely worth all the money if you have to deal with a lot of drain issues. I've cleared out 30x60 Emergency pans in less than 5min
Should of just replaced that piece of shit 😂😂 Hopefully u used nitrogen to braze , I think I saw a hose hooked up to the liquid line Good video bro !
Thanks man, the amounts of P.O.S's we all touch is ridiculous. Even with giving financing people don't wanna replace stuff, but then get mad at the pricing for their broken parts 🙃
😂 every contractor I know personally, neglects their trade at their own house. My house in the D, my unit went down on a fri evening, so I pulled out a scrap unit out the garage. 30yr old, 2.5 ton condenser w/4ton 21” coil, sitting on top of a 17” furnace. And the plenum is custom duct board, taped to hell with foil tape. I was just tryna get by a hot weekend, but It’s been running absolutely perfect zero issues for about 4yrs now.. I rarely change the filter 😅
Pffftt man if I owned this place I'd be definitely pulling clean parts off scrapped Rheem units just to get by until it's time to replace. But I just moved in here a few months ago, the ductwork is abysmal, my return is choked through a wall cavity, I can barely keep the humidity levels near 65 on +85° days here in South Carolina. Only house I maintain in tip top shape is my mommas 🤣
I have both the job link I only use for static pressure. I don’t know why but I like the other one for checking gas pressure and pressure switches
I could understand why. I think for the fact we needed both work trucks to have a manometer I don't mind using the new joblink while giving the new guy the other one. Only hassle is just relying on my phone battery and good connection 😅
Cool piece of kit!
Should not charge in heating, charge in cooling
If I remember right it was like mid to high 60s out at the time we were there doing the work. There was no dataplate on there to tell me how much it came from the factory with, so I wasn't in ideal temperatures to charge in either mode.
I am a firm believer in "the one who dies with the most toys wins!". Nice choice and look forward to seeing them in use down the road. A vid suggestion if you take them. You have your own system there at your house. I'd like to see a video that would show everything you would do and could do to "your" system to put it in top running condition.
When I get access to my crawl space to better explain my return duct issue, I'll definitely do that video
@@AB_HVAC On the other side of that, if you're not the "homeowner", then it makes sense that you wouldn't necessarily want to "invest" in a rental, right? But, you could still go though it and maybe point out those things that make sense and those that don't. Anyway, it will be a cool vid to watch.
I like the thought of it. Totally makes sense man, thanks for always tapping in on these videos 🙏🏽
Nice!!!
I have that kit. I haven't used them yet.
Just haven't needed to?
@AB_HVAC I haven't yet needed to pull them out.
@mattwoodbridge7924 gotcha. I think I'm gonna really enjoy using them for static pressure more than anything
@@AB_HVACmake a video using them on static pressure
