IndyCar Series EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS: Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix | 6/4/23 | Motorsports on NBC

I am admittedly an F1 fan and I thought there would be a lot more carnage on this narrow, bumpy track, but this race was very entertaining.
Don't sleep on Detroit!
Indycars better racing f1 has better cars
Way better and more exciting than most F1 races these days. F1 needs to get rid of DRS - which is just a gimmick.
All the carnage made me wonder if this was a NASCAR event.
@@craigfoster354 it will be in the streets of Chicago in a month lol
I’m now somewhat agreeing with Indy being the best open wheel series right now, as far as how good it is to watch and never really knowing who’s going to do well, this 15 minute highlight has beaten the last 3 formula 1 races give or take
beaten the last 3 f1 race? more like the entire season so far. genuine question though.. is there a way to watch indycar outside of the USA? (etc. subscription service). i've just cancelled my f1 tv pro subscription and would like to watch indycar instead at least for this season.

@Above Average Ford Fiesta Just telling people about their obsession. Indycar fans talk more about F1 than about Indycar
Grosjean has always been a driver I've liked to watch in Indy and F1. I'm often amazed that he hasn't injured his hands or his head more considering how often he pounds both hands on either the steering wheel, on his helmet, or on both. Those are practically his signature moves.😆
im rooting for him every race... but his signature move is crashing.

I might be alone in this but I actually really like the rough nature of this Detroit track. It reminds me of the really old F1 tracks that makes for a really big driver and engineering challenge. Unfortunately the two Kiwi Scotts got a bit unlucky during the race but what a race it was!!

I kinda like the track. The imperfections and the route gives it a true street circuit feel unique to the city.
Even with the obscene amount of ads, there was still more racing shown than watching an entire F1 GP with no ads. There is actual competition.
No such thing as a close race in F1 right now. There might be close racing, but the race is never close. I'm enjoying Indy more and more because of it
F1 is European so the big boys have all the money and advantages just like in football (or soccer). Indy is more driver skill as the cars are for the most part on an even playing field.
My hot take: Europe is rooted in feudal politics: Kings and nobles ran everything, they love royalty. There’s a deep underlying belief that the world is inherently unfair, and the very few will dominate the rest. F1 is a dramatization of that philosophy, with a few filthy rich teams slaughtering the other slightly less filthy rich teams, while the peasants watch on and mildly applaud, dreaming of a world where they were the nobles they both idolize and resent.
What really blows my mind, is that scott dixon is still racing at the top level.
I remeber playing as him in the 2005 indycar game on the ps2 as a child. 😂
That's Scott and the very same team since, Chip genetti
This track didn’t look promising Friday and Saturday, but it was awesome to race on. Some smoothing in areas and maybe a repave to widen turn 1 and this isn’t too bad. Attendance was much bigger than you could get at Belle Isle
I can see this as One of the Reasons why they switched, Belle Isle Was Good But if you wasn't a race fan than you would simply avoid going to the isle those days. Downtown Brings much more people do to its Abundance of Casinos, Restaurants, Bars, Night Clubs, And Shopping, so no matter what there was always going to be a big crowd, especially on weekends.

I like the oval racing and fancy road circuits just fine but this kind of open wheel street fighting is what I love. Reminds me of proper old school racing the way CART and F1 used to be on Wide World of Sports when I was kid.
what a great race, I really enjoyed this street course, narrow spots almost like alleys, love that long long straight away, great passing opprotunities....

indy, so much fairer, even and exciting.
we need a international indy car series.....
events in......
bathurst...... sazuka,..... silverstone.....
spain, mexico and brazil....
this is way better than F1
Everyone wishes F1 was more raw and how it used to be....Well that's basically what indycar is.
What F1 lost was the aggressive do or die attitude that drivers used to have in the V10 and V8 era and what we see in IndyCar every week. Yes, there used to be the top cars like Ferrari, Mclaren, Williams, BMW and later Redbull. But for position and when racing eachother drivers used to fight and claw for points. They weren't there to have a friendly fight. To used to race eachother hard and push eachother off the tracks. Now, you basically see drivers waving other cars by with no serious intention of defending because all they care about is simulated laptimes and tyres.
Indy still has what F1 lost. Refueling, drivers going flat out with every man for himself. Hard racing. Start to looking forward to every IndyCar race and tuning out of F1.
@@isaacm2374 I'm F1 fan for more than 30 years.... this thrill and compettiveness is what F1 lacks
F1 became much more about conservation and saving the cars! If you force teams to use all compounds in a race (therefore forcing 2 stops at least) they would push much more
I agree with the tires, Pirelli either has the tires way too prone to exploding, or not different enough to encourage a lot of tire strategy. At least with mandated pit stops, you could have more durable tires at the very least, though the grip levels still likely need to be a lot more different to encourage tire choices.
Indy car has refueling, so might as well change tires while they’re at it, F1 doesn’t really have anything forcing tire changes, outside of them literally exploding.
F1 should just allow refueling, I don’t care if it’s dangerous, F1 is too vanilla and safe. The difference in performance is so wild, strategy could help offset the massive engineering differences.
More excitement in 1 race than an entire season of F1
F1 doesn't come close to this excitement
And I'm a F1 fan
Palou is such an exciting driver.
IndyCar series is how racing should be: everyone's got a shot at the win. F1 is stagnant, has been for years since the days of Schumacher. Granted, Schumi won everything for a minute but the other drivers like Alonso, Montoya, Kimi, DC, didn't just lay over and let him win.WEC is a whole other beast, up there with IndyCar.
I agree with everything you said . But to play devils advocate, Penske and Ginassi have won all but 1 race so far.
i was a bit weary about the track but after the race, i decided its awesome, oldschool vibes, great battles, awesome back straight
Much more exciting race than the Spanish GP today.
If you want exciting Formula racing watch homologated F2 Indy style racing not the series F1 that highlights constructor innovation.

EDGE OF MY SEAT BABY!
As a Michigander, this race looked like it was going to be one of the worst on the schedule during practice, but I think with some tweaks this is a pretty exciting circuit. Lots of action
This is the same layout F1 drove on in the 80s, isn't it? Did they ditch Belle Isle?
@@sanscipher it doesn’t sound like they are going back
@defilor Its a condensed version of the F1 circuit. It doesn't use any of the side streets.
I feel like for a street course, this provided much better racing and passing than many F1 races do. I love both series, but Indy Car has had some bangers lately!
Way better racing than F1 so far this season
grosjean is killing it, but honestly should take down the intensity down just a percent or two lol
Yea, I think the pressure of trying to win is getting to him. He needs to breathe and dial it down a little. His win will come. Hopefully it happens at Road America but we'll see.
He's making mistakes like he did in F1. His crash count is racking up and won't be doing him favors with the team if he keeps going like this
I really want Romain to do well but yes, he was very crash prone in F1 too. Hopefully he can find an intensity that works but won’t end up in him binning it every other race.
@@F1Fanatic76 Yea, he has been on tilt every race it seems. He has actually been running pretty well before each of these incidents...I feel like he has crashed out while being easily in the top 10 at least 3-4 times this year. His breakthrough is coming at some point this season, I would bet.
@Chris Steimel the haas was so trash those years, though. I think he would have done better in todays haas.
"Romain Grosjean is going to try and stuff it inside Mclaughlin."
I almost spit out mu beer when I heard that earlier today. I swear to God I'm going to edit together a bunch of out of out of context race commentary one day.
🤣🤣🤣
The subtle elevation changes on the track are great, I feel elevation really enhances a circuit's enjoyability.
Leigh saying "excitable" when he meant "exciting" is straight up hilarity.
If you're referencing 5:38 I think he did mean excitable. Pato's got a bad habit of making desperate decisions like trying to pass Ferrucci in a really tough corner.
7:42 a speedway next to a speedway is genius
I think they "use" speedway fuel
Race after race, Indy is just better. What a real fight to the finish.
Track is too narrow but IndyCar is always exciting
Indycar > F1 Just no comparison anymore 😂😂😂😢😢
Wow….I didn’t think it could get any bumpier than belle isle but this track clearly took bumpy to another level. Tough race and was fun to watch.
Who's gonna tell him about Sebring?
@@justrelax8465 lol... IndyCar teams actually do some of their pre-season testing in Sebring, as it simulates street course conditions fairly well.
But it's worth noting that they test on the LESS bumpy Northern half of Sebring. The bumps at turn 17 are probably more brutal than anything on the Indycar schedule, even with this race added.
Man we need an indycar racing game !
INDYCAR BLOWING F1 OUT OF THE WATER!
Honestly it was no more difficult to negotiate than most of the IndyCar street circuits.

More excitement than a whole season of F1. Loads of overtaking and pushing and shoving. I really like the rough and ready appearance of that Detroit track. I also like the semi enclosed look of the cars. How powerful/fast are they compared to F1 cars?
they aren't nearly as fast as F1 cars on a road course, but that is for cost reasons and making a car capable of running on such a diverse calendar while still putting on a good race.
Infinitely more entertaining than F1.

He goes for it. I'll never fault a driver who has passion. Can't wait till he finally gets his first win.
Amazing race, love this track...!
The cars look sooo good in this configuration
Will Power doesn't need horsepower, because he has willpower.
I just stopped at 0:11 - amazing how easily all drivers can be distinguished, liveries are as good as in good ol' times (bright and distinctive), unlike F1 which is not as good.
More fun in one turn than in entire Spanish GP (verstappen won again)
Well, if you didn’t actually watch either race, maybe.
I miss Belle Isle, that was such an awesome track with a really cool Winner's tradition at the fountain.
But this put on a good show. Track is narrow and ugly at places, but it was a good show.
That was very exciting! Love the aggressiveness and the bumpiness.
What a race! Don't see it before! But much better than F1 impossible to pass. Good thrill and fights in each position
I agree but don’t say it’s impossible to pass in F1, there was tons of passing today at Barcelona, which is usually a ball-achingly boring track. The funny part though, the reason there’s more F1 passing now is they followed Indy car’s footsteps with groundfx + high aero wash design to allow closer following.
