INDY NXT EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS: Detroit Grand Prix Race 1 | 6/3/23 | Motorsports on NBC
/ motorsportsonnbc Спорт
Fighting lap-after-lap for the lead, finally takes the position, and the car breaks down on the final lap. That had to hurt.
Very sad time 😢
I remember watching Gordon Johncock leading an Indy car race decades ago… running out of fuel in the last 1/4 lap… that hurts 😢
@@Bastian_Zugnappen33 I saw it in person, I was seated right behind the finish in grandstand 9. I could see him hitting his helmet and steering wheel. Happy he was still in the top 10.
Thanks nbc motorsports for the highlights
How heart breaking with two corners to go for a win.
They really have to repave this track before next year. The city of Detroit would probably appreciate it as well
It wasn't a track, they had it on the roads of Detroit
LOL, track looks the same since F1 raced there back in the 80s.😂
Ha ha ha! The moolems like sand, dirt and crappy roads.
The course has been repaved in the last year in anticipation of the race.
@@michelleferrero8206 Only specific areas. The section down to the hairpin (turn 3) wasn’t touched, same with the turn 6-7 section, which could use either a grinding or full repave.
two rookies getting an important lesson in motor racing: sometimes luck gives you the big one, sometimes luck takes everything. What a race!
Congratulations to Reece Gold and heartbroken for Nolan Siegel.
The racers probably think this track is bumpy, but compared to the rest of the city its quite smooth lol
Siegel's move was amazing, shame the bad luck.
Imo Roe should have been given a penalty for that contact.
Ya the announcer said he wasn’t quite alongside? I’m an F1 fan so not sure if there are different rules for Indy, but he had is nose halfway up the other guys car and was definitely entitled to space imo.
As a die-hard open wheel fan since 1958....on any kind of venue....but I still can't wrap my mind around the attraction of the street course...except listening to the up & down shifting.
The newer indy cars sound mean. Borderline drag racing - obviously not the same but louder than you'd expect. Coolest race, and I've done Indy 500, but hearing them in Detroit is the coolest.
The rough is what does it for me. There's absolutely no reason for every race to be as smooth as a baby's bottom.
@@mvwoon Been to three Indy 500s...and countless others nationwide.....you are correct about that sound almost being dragster like...it's obviously enhanced by the canyon like acoustics....what I really meant about "the attraction" is it's really the very narrow window for seeing the race that makes it less appealing unless of course you see it on TV
@@neiana I totally agreed....rough is tough... having watched Indy Cars on every kind of track... seen them run the dirt on Langhorne PA or DuQuion IL back in the day.... talk about rough.... the guys used to drop out in less than 100 miles on the old rumble tumble dirt... check out "puke hallow" at Langhorne.
That was such a great drop kick he should try out for Lions special teams.
On the plus side, the bumps on the inside of the left hairpin to 90 degree right made for a pretty cool pass there. There might be hope for a solid Indy race here yet. I hope attrition doesn't break my favorite driver's gearbox, toe link, or spine.
Lets go back to Michigan Speedway.
@@NopeNothanks-zj1yw what's wrong with ovals
@@NopeNothanks-zj1yw u don't need breaking zones to have passies, maybe a little but u can use slipstream to pass people And clean might add.
Lovely idea having road cars take on a SuperTruck course. Those jumps have gotta hurt.
Why do young drivers have that really bad habit of rolling backwards after a spin. All it takes is someone not to anticipate that and you get hit
This course looks completely substandard.
Great race!!
Feel sorry for Siegel. He was doing great.
Go Jamie!
Can wait to see "who thought this was a good 1st corner video"
What a race, what heartbreak
Fantastic for the new Tech City 🏆
Like the new track. The duel pit ,the super long straight away then double bach and the elevation changes on a temporary course. Give a post belle , thumbs up
Wait. WHAT?! Did I hear that right....... THEE Jamie Chadwick?! In Indy NXT?
Yes, she had to move over. The other ladies in W series weren’t giving her much competition. Completely different story here though. 😲😔
I know it’ll take some time to get used to a street circuit, let alone the cars. But she’s been having a rough rookie season so far…
Hope she’s able to learn everything this season so she can come back stronger next. 🤞🏻
@@neoanderson7 And W Series also basically folded due to lack of funds mid season last year. No official announcement yet, but it's June and there are no news of any racing this year, so I think it's as good as dead.
@@neoanderson7 There are zero talented women in W series on the F1 development series level, let alone to actually perform well in those series like f3 and f2.
That is going to leave a scar for sure. Absolutely B R U T A L.
Wow what a bummer
What is?
@@tl924siegel's loss
@@tl924 blew his gear box and lost the race
OMG that was heartbreaking for Siegel. Ernie Francis Jr. with 3rd!!!!
Let's go Ernie!! Great Trans Am driver 👍🏽
Brutal.
Funny race!
Was so happy Siegel won the next race
Great was
Brutal ending.
I Love Indycar
That finish reminded me of le mans when toyota had it in the bag but the car stopped working coming to what would be one to go
As a sim racer I totally understand what happened lap one turn one 😂
Classic T1 in Monza 😂
Hope you fix that sound before Sundays race!!
napping in windsor Canada right now is impossible 😔
Nice
Why they took the beautiful Belle isle away for this dump is beyond me
I came here to say the same thing. This track looks like what will be left after the nuclear apocalypse.
The environmentalists said that the cars on Belle Isle caused damage to the wild life. I have one thing to say. IT WAS A SINGLE WEEKEND NOT THE ENTIRE YEAR
Yep they were kind of forced off Belle Isle
The cellulite on Lizzo’s derrière is smoother than this track.
Indy Lights?
Yes
Holy smokes that's narrow.
This is the future right here…what they need to do is turn this series like an F1 same sponsor team but keep it Indy classic as is. These cars look better than the actual Indy cars. This has potential and it only needs to fall on a powerful money racing enthusiast that firmly believes in the series and what it can do.
Wow
What a shame for Siegel, 6 second lead to 8th place finish due to engine failure.
Belle Isle was a better track than this closet
Wow good race!
heartbreaking ending for the young driver
8:20 He lost the gearbox!!!!
Louis just like i'm (fnatic). We're british last hope in premiers and world/champions tour series.
i get that its a street track, but this place looks a little rough for racecars haha
Feel bad for Siegel
Just trying to imagine F1 cars on that Detroit track. They would be in the wall on every corner
No way this track passes FIA Grade 1 with how unbelievably bumpy it is.
@@kukuc96 Exactly. That's called challenging and exciting. Drivers will have to be so switched on. Unlike F1 Scalextric
@@stevenmacdonald9619 Until you figure out the spine injuries you would get if you were to drive over this at F1 speed.
@@kukuc96 It's the same in all open-wheel series. Kyle Kirkwood had a rough landing in the opening round at St. Petersburg and was very much shaken up.
@@lorddrac_dontaskmetodance Not entirely. If you go faster, bumps are worse (higher forces through the car and the driver), and an F1 car goes faster. Not that it would be pleasant in any car, but it's probably straight up dangerous in an F1 car, even without crashing.
So many laps around Detroit yet not a single car jacking?! 👏
Tf they gunna do run on the track of cars going 100+ mph
@@PancakeBoi I see you've never been to Detroit ;)
@@neiana i grew up in this city my friend
I thought they got rid of belle isle?
They did, it’s in downtown detroit now
why did they abandon belle isle?
Argh that was a messy one. What could have been for McElrea. The car was quick enough to win that one.
Pretty impressive run #28 Jamie Chadwick
Yeah. It looks like she's getting used to the cars. I expect she'll be near the top 5 (but not in it) by the end of the year and hopefully she can come back next year. I'm certain she'd be challenging for podiums next year.
great! but as an F1 fan, is there no aerial coverage? cranes, or drones even?
It's Detroit Baby! Everything has been stolen. It's called reparations.
Indycar NXT is their development series (think F2 or F3) which is why the coverage is not the same as what you get in proper Indycar or F1
@@Kevin_Aus oh I didnt realize it was their support series. Thanks! Great action though.
There is neutral switch you can accidentally hit. I hope he didn't do that. What an awful way to lose a race but he'll recover.
I believe Lewis Hamilton lost a race for pressing a button he wasn't supposed to press...
its like watching Formula ford....
If the track area isnt resurfaced for next year then that is a criminal offence...drivers have to contend with this tight track and still awful road
Dramatic!
iRacing start
Pretty cool that the race is somewhere downtown Detroit instead of on belle island! Props to Indy?
This track is bumpy af. Must be a lot of sore bums and spines after race day here. I don't think I have seen an open-wheeler be this close to jumping in a braking zone as at T3.
Gearbox 😢
Boing, boing, boing.
One team couldn't start, their wheels were stolen.
The groomer car crashes again. LOL KARMA
These guys are the Amateur Show of Racing!! 👹
These cars seems very slow.
Because it's the feeder series. They are somewhere around F3 pace.
too much bumps
I wish the Indy cars would adopt the F1 style halo. It would turn them back into an open wheel car.
Honestly it’s eventually going to be the other way around…
Rookie commentators. On the restart the guy in first place didn't "get a jump" on 2nd position. The guy in 2nd simply let the guy in 1st get away so that he wouldn't be involved in the fight because he knew that 1st would have to serve a penalty. Smart move.
this track is butt
This track is really bad
These cars at least, LOOK like real indycars, not the IRL Nerf clown cars!
That is the most boring kind of racing . It is like watching a parade.
Did Jamie Chadwick actually finish a race without crashing?
Boring 😴
Proper rubbish
Looks like karting compared to formula 1
A Indy car is on its last legs . A mere shadow of what it use to be . Sponsors are 2nd tier , all the big whale sponsors are gone . Sad state of affairs .
