@@referencechannel996 in my country i can sale my 4c for the same price I bought it new. Not to shabby I would think. Maintenance isn’t expensive at all.
I have a Launch Edition US version. Much different than the European version. The US version has more government required crash crush zones, side air bags and a slightly different carbon fiber layering to increase the crash protection. It weights a bit more but surprisingly the performance is the same or better with this version. Several test have shown 4.1 seconds 0-60 and 12.6 second quarter miles at 108 mph....which I can verify. The traming (darting about) was due to some having incorrect suspension alignment on some of the delivered cars. Mine tracks like on rails and no issues at all. May also have something do with driving on the other side of the road in Britain vs. US. Needs to be properly broken in before the true performance shows. The trans is magnificent....there is some turbo lag in the All Weather mode but gets better as it goes up the 4 levels of engine mapping and stability control, etc. tightening. By the way these are not made by Alfa Romeo....they are all made in the Maserati factory in Modena. This was an early lower end model. The model I have has track suspension and race exhaust. Frankly the ride isn't that bad. It is firm but well damped...my wife says it is plenty comfortable for her. With my exhaust the noise level goes up but we can still carry on a conversation....until you nail it....and that glorious ALFA symphony starts. There are plenty of other excellent cars out there....but this is a real drivers no concessions car. Every car has their "fails" but over all this is a darn impressive car. I spent a lot of time driving all the competition and settled on the C-4.....it hit all the points I was looking for.
What is he whining about? This is a hard-edged sports car that the driver adapts to, not the other way around. It is low to the ground with stiff suspension to prevent bottoming out and for proper handling. This Alfa is an exciting car IMO.

I have a 4C since June last year. I've driven it from Estonia to the Nürburgring Nordschleife and back, I drove 103 laps while I was there. It has never tried to kill me, it doesn't suffer ADHD and it doesn't have any of the negative traits British journalists keep telling us about.
Having driven one myself multiple times now and being kind of a fanboy I can sort of get it about the steering. Get an alignment on it. Because that did wonders for it. Quality video, great shots. But quite negative towards the 4C; for a car that's only a well sorted/tuned suspension (Ohlins, Intrax, etc) set-up away of being briljant. Becuase a car that looks this good, is faster, has a good and better engine and gearbox, is more spacious, more grown-up and has almost the same weight and price as a Lotus Elise should only be applauded.
@@simplefact4u I sold both my 4C's but I loved them. Such a fun car and low maintenance costs. I would highly recommend one. However, the geometry needs looking at and an after market exhaust is necessary to stop the drone at around 70mph.
Not offering a manual transmission seems like a pretty big mistake to me. This is a competitor to the Elise and Cayman/boxster (maybe a little bit of MX-5/GT86), right? Those offer manuals for a reason. People who buy these kind of cars are usually into that. Yeah, the flappy paddles are probably good and they're obviously faster, but that's why you offer both so people have a choice. But still, I like the 4C. Especially the spider with the new headlights. It's stunning. I'd love to drive it one day, but if I was actually looking to buy a sportscar in this class, I'd look elsewhere.

I really like the 4C. It's a fantastic looking and really exciting little car that's also seems fairly attainable. That's a little bit special for me, as someone who grew up not really having any Alfas as an example to get excited about. Mostly they were attractive, but ultimately unexceptional passenger cars with a bad reputation for reliability. Their best days were long gone. The 8C changed that, but at the time it seemed to me like something of a fluke. A one-off to make their brand desirable, and was only really available to the kind of people who can afford high end sports cars. But the 4C shows that wasn't just a one time thing, and that Alfa want to show people it can still create exciting cars for everybody. It feels like Alfa turning over a new leaf and beginning to bring back some passion that seemed like it was gone before. Also, I can't remember the last time I heard someone unironically use the word "gayly".

Russell Robinson German here, you are right and wrong. We can actually get both. The Launch Edition has the headlights as seen in the video. And the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has the prettier ones with glass.
First off another brilliant video done by you guys. The editing and commentary really are top notch...even better in my opinion then some of the channels bigger then you. One point I would like to bring up is that when you mention the steering you say it sometimes gets sketchy and unpredictable. If I recall correctly when they designed the 4C they actually are one of the few companies that decided to go with a manual steering option rather then a power steering format. Could it really just be the feedback from the road you were experiencing and not really a flaw in the car at all? They went with this option to give the car a more authentic feel and really emphasize the "driver" type car it is supposed to be. Many people miss that kind of raw feedback that many power steering options just don't give you now a days. I am by no means an Alfa fan boy...just giving you guys some food for thought. Great video keep them coming!
I like the 4C. It's not another Porsche. Spartan...but not crazy as a Lotus. It's unique and different. Also MODERN small, lightweight, midengine sport cars are hard to come by these days that cost under 100k. Well, maybe Europe has more but here in America, we don't....I don't think. Shoo if I have the money.......I'd get an Exige.
Alex, you do the best car reviews on the 'net...I really appreciate your honest opinions, which is what we need when unable to test drive certain cars ourselves. The idea of no-power steering appeals to me, as nothing gives that pure honest feedback like a non-assisted rack. Flappy paddles (especially _dual clutch_ ), strangely enough, do appeal to me, although I wouldn't turn down a proper 6-speed manual with Honda-esque snickery. Keep up the great work.
Brilliant review , so far I haven't heard so much detail into this car specially pros & cons, happily though still has some breed for all us enthusiast. The steering thing , well that's the trade off for lightness . Probably they should re work the car for another evolution one. Cheers
After the epic burn, you're telling it "It's not you, it's just me." Alex is such a gent. But I bet it'd be great for those who want to feel a pulse while driving a sports car these days.
I'll take a manual spyder, thank you. But in all seriousness, I think this car CAN be that dream Alfa we're thinking about. With a manual gearbox from an mx-5 or something similar, the tow and camber adjustments that someone already mentioned and the fact that it would be a cabrio would make it absolutely awesome. :)
Alfa Romeo - loveably flawed, like your pet labrador. Sure! it chews the sofa and gets mud on the carpet, but when it gives you a paw and looks you in the eyes, you DO love them...forever!
I think 4C is a good start for Alfa. If we criticise too much, they will create again "sporty" Brera thingy... This time 4x4 with diesel weighting as hell. Therefore, 4C is brilliant and keep going on. Maybe Fiat should use this same chasis above upcomming 124 Spider. Abarth could help with aftermarket. That would make whole thing much cheaper (not Abarth part).
Another great XCar review. Feel Alex gets Italian cars, especially Maserati and the GT so was a bit surprised with this review. All fair points though.
After driving one of these myself, this review is absolutely spot on. I want one, I lust over one but it doesn't make sense for me to buy one. I love this car but its hard to pull the trigger on it.
I don't understand this review. You go on saying how great it is yet say it isn't the car is should be. The only negative aspects I remember you talking about were some steering quirks. You didn't specify the tires and that could have been the issue. So what should it be then? It seems like you wanted to dislike the car yet couldn't find a proper reason to.
I want this car I want this car I want this car "No stick shift available here, I'm afraid." Aaaand there goes my interest. I'm not an elitist, I think that for technical and driving reasons a paddle shifter is, in fact, better. But....there's just something about a stick shift, that's so much more fun, so much more visceral. Even if it's not quite as fast, or if it adds a bit of weight, I'd much rather have one in a car that, let's face it, is a "fun car." It's not a track car really, this is what you take for a drive on curvy backroads. And for just having fun, I want a stickshift. Why it isn't an option....I don't know, but I'm a bit disappointed. :(
Beautiful video - really a joy to watch. I wonder whether the front end issues are embedded in the chassis design or the front end geometry, or whether they could be tuned out? Seems such a pity that they blight the car in an area which is so important.
A brutally honest review. Good job. Favourited and subscribed. Incidentally my daily car is an Alfa Mito with the semi-automatic gearbox (same 6-speed unit in the 4C). It's fantastic to drive fast, but there are some things about it that make me wonder what they were thinking when they made the car.
Rumours say that an updated version with 270hp will be revealed in the spring. With a more responsive twin-scroll turbo. Faster gear changes. Other than that, just so fine tuning of suspension, steering and such (more comfortable seats I'm told?)
+Heine Pedersen It exists already: it's called 4c Zender. It's an unofficial model with 275hp. The rumours about an official version dated from 2014, and we're 2016 already...
***** I have to agree with @Magellanic. After going from the aggressive, menacing lights of the 159, Brera etc to these rounder, puppy dog lights is a real shame. Their whole range has adapted this "cutesy" Fiat500-esque headlight design language and its ruined the Mito and Giulietta in my opinion.
Magellanic SpaceClouds I think you can choose what kind of headlights you want if you buy new 4C, because spider version have more conventional headlights with glass cover, those ones look way better.
Magellanic SpaceClouds - Headlights could look "sharper" and sleeker. What kills it for me is that god awful triangle grill in the middle. Every other part of the car is beautiful though. Also, could use more power.
I really don't see why they haven't got a manual version of this. Dual-clutch transmissions use to weigh more than manuals, so why didn't they extend their lightweight mantra?
I don't mind the extra weight. I rather it with electric steering as a option. This is not the 90's anymore and two I think it would make the car more easy to handle for car driving it 3 to 4 days a week driving
There reason why there is no manual gearbox available is just space. The TCT Gearbox is small enough to get the job done. There may be a 300hp engine in the future...
Many sports cars tram. My S2 does it all the time. I think most of these car reviewers have been spoiled by the modern drive for you cars these days. This is a throwback and I'm glad it is what it is.
another epic video, awesome work guys... I do disagree on the steering though, the weigh bias in wet conditions could be a reason, but in the dry I liked it better than the Elise. there's a better sense of occasion in the cabin as well. keep up the good work
The Alfa Works have a 500 quid fix that resolves pretty much all the steering issues. Such a shame that AR themselves didn't sort it at launch. Most if not all reviews start & finish with this criticism which is SUCH a shame since it is an epic car.
Good honest review, one thing though - if the sound of the car. is a selling point, we need to hear it a little more. I'm sure a few F-Types are sold after that exhaust note is heard on youtube :)

Russell Robinson Becuase they are light (10kg's less than those of the Spider)
Russell Robinson German here, you are right and wrong. We can actually get both. The Launch Edition has the headlights as seen in the video. And the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has the prettier ones with glass.
Ti Ma Ah~ I didnt know. Thanks for the info :)
Still don't get why everyone's saying the headlamps look bad...
+TheIceWarrior then go buy glasses. Those headlamps look awful.
+mac daddy They're very taste-sensitive, that's all.
+appelpower1 they're hideous that's it
Gerardo Salas I don't like them either, but I think you're confusing opinions with facts here.
Got-Boy, I want one of these … good to watch you do your stuff. Glad you made it to the West in one piece 🥰
How do you get such good dynamic range in your video???
Is this car automatic? or manual? love this car to pieces but why wouldn't it have any electronic touch screen? makes it looks nice
Sounds like you are experiencing some bump steer? Car wandering under compression?
Recently subscribed after seeing the video on the Hennessey Venom and I'm certainly glad I did, great videos.
Good review. Amazing location and camera work
I'll take a manual spyder, thank you.
Till today one of the most beautiful cars ever made ❤
I think 4C is a good start for Alfa.
Well I bought one so fuck me... And I love every bit of it.
footballcoreano I did ^_^
You should add a test on a dry track!
I don't understand this review. You go on saying how great it is yet say it isn't the car is should be. The only negative aspects I remember you talking about were some steering quirks. You didn't specify the tires and that could have been the issue. So what should it be then? It seems like you wanted to dislike the car yet couldn't find a proper reason to.
read other reviews, they all say more or less the same
This is one of the smartest reviews of the car. Very impartial, I felt. It touches on points that no other reviewer does. Good job.
Nice video ~!So unassisted steering wheel is hard to manage in cities or on the highway ?
Sounds like most problems could be taken care off with better suspension and/or better setup of said suspension.
What's with the wheels and extended exhaust?
Excellent video. Many thanks! I liked the history behind the company. Well written and nicely presented. A well put together video.
I've noticed that in other videos that you make. Really great touch, and much appreciated. Keep up the great work.
I want this car
I want this car
I want this car
"No stick shift available here, I'm afraid."
Aaaand there goes my interest.
+Steven Zettel Exige for you. :)
TassieLorenzo
So. Much. Yes. Elise or Exige, I'd be happy with either one. In orange, it's dream car for a 2 seater.
Well no one cares what you want,we are in 2018.
Beautiful video - really a joy to watch. I wonder whether the front end issues are embedded in the chassis design or the front end geometry, or whether they could be tuned out? Seems such a pity that they blight the car in an area which is so important.
That's just an insanely beautiful car to look at and a pleasure to drive...
"Started making sense": true words!
I love the title. XCAR definitely beats Motor Trend bit by bit. Now that Top Gear's gone too. :)
What do you think about Alfa Romeo GIULIA Alex ???
Rumours say that an updated version with 270hp will be revealed in the spring. With a more responsive twin-scroll turbo. Faster gear changes. Other than that, just so fine tuning of suspension, steering and such (more comfortable seats I'm told?)
+Heine Pedersen It exists already: it's called 4c Zender. It's an unofficial model with 275hp. The rumours about an official version dated from 2014, and we're 2016 already...
A good car show always starts with the shot of non-car scene. :) Good touch.
This is a top gear quality review. Magnificent car also..
Sorry but the headlights ruin the look for me.
***** They look like the eyes of some ugly insect.
Magellanic SpaceClouds I think you can choose what kind of headlights you want if you buy new 4C, because spider version have more conventional headlights with glass cover, those ones look way better.
Magellanic SpaceClouds Yup, that's why us North Americans get the "normal" projector headlights ;)
Magellanic SpaceClouds - Headlights could look "sharper" and sleeker. What kills it for me is that god awful triangle grill in the middle. Every other part of the car is beautiful though. Also, could use more power.
Nice video and lovely car
I really don't see why they haven't got a manual version of this. Dual-clutch transmissions use to weigh more than manuals, so why didn't they extend their lightweight mantra?
All you guys that love so much 4c's design, have u ever seen the 8c, I mean the design and the lines of the 8c are miles ahead of this thing
The flaws mean it's a real Alfa Romeo. As strange as it sounds, if it was perfect, it would somehow be worse.
They do a smaller wheel option might sort things out
another epic video, awesome work guys... I do disagree on the steering though, the weigh bias in wet conditions could be a reason, but in the dry I liked it better than the Elise. there's a better sense of occasion in the cabin as well. keep up the good work
This guy should be on the new Top Gear.
The Alfa Works have a 500 quid fix that resolves pretty much all the steering issues. Such a shame that AR themselves didn't sort it at launch. Most if not all reviews start & finish with this criticism which is SUCH a shame since it is an epic car.
What is the name of the epic song from 0:56 onward?!
Good honest review, one thing though - if the sound of the car. is a selling point, we need to hear it a little more. I'm sure a few F-Types are sold after that exhaust note is heard on youtube :)
I dont agree with lots of the reviewer. I own the USA spec and love lots of what this video frowns upon.
why haven't you reviewed the 8c as a channel?
