Why do (some) people react this way when they see that someone is significantly better off than they are? And note that by Charlotte's reaction she makes nothing of the difference, and it's meaningless to her. (ie. she wasn't displaying a condescending attitude, etc) So then why/how does being better off than some people somehow preclude you from being a candidate to them?
... then of course there are those to whom you are a candidate because you are better off, but that is a separate issue ...
The Clip:
Eric's reaction to Charlotte's Condo in Sex and the City, Season 4, Episode 18 (Season Finale), "I Heart NY"
This is the only real reaction to the unbelievable life style of the protagonists.
Hahaha for reallll!
Especially Carrie.
I think it would have been interesting if Sex and the City ended with all the Girls broke and they all had to take a Subway like the Vast Majority of us living in NYC. I didn't watch all the Episodes of Sex and The City, but I don't think I ever saw the Girls on the Show, I mean the Woman ever take a Subway?!
@@HoldenNY22 They talked about taking it frequently atleast Miranda and Carrie did I doubt Samantha and Charlotte did though
@@theprousteffect9717 Especially Carrie? Her place is small compare to this or the other girls' apartments.
The actor who played him nailed it. His facial expressions are hilarious. I love this scene
I think I saw this actor in AHS S1. His acting was good in it, too.
@@wonka320 yeah i thought he was familiar, the armenian guy that wanted to buy the murder house 😅
Very realistic indeed..he would totally pull off a constipation scene with no problems 🌻
Can't help but understand his frustration as well. I'd be pretty jealous if I saw someone with a better home than me and I'm a female. Its like 10x worse for men.
@@Myview246 I wouldn’t. It wouldn’t bother me a bit!
In NYC if your apartment has a washer and dryer and isn't shared with 4 other people then you're a king.
I guess I’m a king then 🤔
For those of you not from NYC or familiar with it her real life building is 930 Park Ave and the average cost is $6.4 million dollars for apt...For people that live-work in NYC this is grossly unattainable and thus intimidating.
He didn't have to be a dick about it
👍🏼😊🇨🇦
@@AmandaVieiraMamaesouCult He wasn’t really ; just astonished/flabbergasted.
Ive been in the same position. The uber rich don’t want to admit inequities and would rather just stay in their world.. I see /experience it every week.
@@InsaneNuYawka He WAS a Dick about It. Did you miss the part where he mentions "my former girlfriend had problem X and now you are rich?" Inequality is not reason for you to be unpolite. I have also been in the situation myself and I didn't behave like that. And newsflash: New York is not the only place in the world with inequality. I know, I was born poor in Brazil.
@@AmandaVieiraMamaesouCult He didn't but it was a spontaneous reaction of a shocked dude who just came to conclusion he can never live up to expectations of this woman
She only has the apartment because her ex husband let her keep it.
But his reaction was a giant red flag.
absolutely, but it was sooo funny 🤣🤣
Gigantic red flag
I mean, she did have her own money. Not enough to BUY that place, certainly, but enough to upkeep it, AND not need to work, AND to be able to just "borrow" 30 thousand dollars in a diamond to a flimsy friend. So even though she "leveled up" by marriage and divorce, she would still be rich enough to intimidate this dude even without an apartment.
@@stefanmakara373 yup. Charlotte's single girl apartment was still pretty big and nice looking. She just stepped it up a bit with the divorce.
But before her marriage..she still had an appartment of hee own
What a great dress😍
Right!!!
@trishdadish82 yess! I hate when people say Charlotte style is boring. Sure it wasn’t vibrant or outlandish like Carrie and Samantha’s, but it was simple, stylish and timeless. I’d raid her closet.
I think it’s Prada

@@violetv4041 me too, especially Charlotte's
“my ex-wife was an orthodox jew”, oh the irony
She said he was a doctor. But he also came from wealth, the house was definitely bought from his families money, not his doctors salary.
Exactly. Doctors do make a lot of money, but definitely not enough to give their ex-wives multi-million-dollar apartments.
the apartment was Bunny's gift to Charlotte and Trey
He would've realized she was rich by the location, building and lobby, without even seeing the apartment.
he knew she was rich but didn't expect her to be THAT rich
Yea she was a divorcee!!! If a divorcee takes you to a park ave building obviously she either struck gold by marrying and divorcing big old money or herself comes from old money!!! Places like park ave. very rarely lets in new money ppl!! The guy is insecure and thought charlotte was desperate.
Never be with someone who is jealous of you.
I don’t care what anyone says. Charlotte was the FASHIONISTA of SATC!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
She was the classiest and best dressed in the traditional sense, but I wouldn't call her a "fashionista." Not a bad thing though, Charlotte's style suits her and is timeless.
I loooved her wardrobe!!!

"You know what I'm not feeling that well, maybe you should go". Such a classy way to say get f*ck out lol
If I had a place like that I don't need a man!
Totally!!!!!
Humanity is Doomed she doesn't need a man she wants a man
She said it herself: everybody wants a man.
If u got this place from our ex, u obviously need a helping hand if you cannot afford the property tax, insurance, ulities etc which around 5k per month, not to mention if this property has mortgage
All you need is a handful of cute fuck buddies. You don't need a full-time boyfriend.
Charlotte always has the best clothes. Loved her and Miranda.
It's my favorite character To, first Miranda and Charlotte.
yes I used to live carrie but then I got older and realized she is a weaker character. Samantha Charlotte and Miranda are more stable. Miranda is more realistic. Charlotte I love but she was such a prude at the beginning. but Samantha was always herself. so I love Samantha and miranda
@@Lovefamilyabundance Same. Liked Samantha and then Carrie when I was a teen watching this show. As an adult I LOATHE Carrie omg. Well not completely, she seems like a nice friend. But WHINEY as hell!

Wow
That’ll be the script.
Poynvx de
He will be wow'ing all the way going down in the elevator. He tomb stone will read 'wow'.
When I first saw this I thought he was being ridiculous until I was put in the same situation. The guy that was interested in me was richer than he seemed, had everything handed to him, money was never a problem, and always had the most extravagant items. Life seemed very easy for him, especially the way he'd talk about what he owns and what he can buy.
I have to work for everything and be content with not having as many things, which I don't mind because it's humbled me, However It was a huge difference in lifestyles that made it intimidating and made me feel as though we wouldn't be able to really relate to each other.
Casmira Zeviani You cray....
Did you get a car as a farewell gift when you broke off with him?
Best friend had a similar situation, money did become a problem because of the attitude around money and what comes with that. I get it. If you come from different ways of being/living/being brought up often you want different things or want to do things differently and it isn't easy. Money certainly doesn't solve problems like people seem to think.
You should be happy you snatched a rich guy.
Casmira Zeviani if he's bragging about what he has and what he can buy then he's a total loser. People like that are total bores.
I think this guy handled the situation poorly and lacked couth, but I understand how he feels. This experience can be very intimidating, on a personal level and considering how you compare to a person's past relationship partner's. Not to mention, it can be difficult to relate to someone in a different socioeconomic class. Not being able to relate to someone's lifestyle or upbringing could very well be a deal-breaker.
It's okay to be overwhelmed but having a rich girlfriend shouldn't be a bad thing? He didn't even try to get to know the woman first.
Funny that men are intimidated by a woman’s wealth and success but women seek that out in a male partner actively and ferociously haha.
Pfft if the roles were reversed and he had the big house and she was freaking out about it people would be calling her an idiot. It happens in life, some people are just wealthier than others. Nothing to be intimated about at all
Nice
Ok
New drinking game: take a shot every time he says wow
Hahaha... He said wow 8 times in one minute. That wouldn't be a drinking game, that would be drinking death 😃😃😃
His problem was he was reading desperation from charlotte! So he thought she was his equal or close to!! So when he saw this he probably thought he was inadequate and lashed out at her to cover his ego!!
Idk how he can walk into a Park Ave apartment with doormen and still expect her to be living in some kind of a studio dump like him, though. But I agree with this.
@@janelily7337 to be fair hes a man and when a woman invites you back to their home all hes thinking about is the sex they gonna have so men don't notice their surroundings at a time like that. But its true, if he stopped thinking with his manhood and noticed the doormen and address he would have already known she was rich.
This is me watching every episode
All the people leaving comments like "that guy is an idiot" obviously have no idea what Manhattan properties cost. That apartment would probably cost 2X what a good size house costs in other parts of the country.
tosheatower 2x? Try 50x
Princess Rose in Manhattan ?
He still is idiot
tosheatower it's not about the apartment, it's about his REACTION which was classless. Even if you enter a mansion, you don't act like that because it's rude. Talking about money is impolite especially with someone who isn't a closer friend or family.
Princess Rose u have no idea what you are talking about, but obviously u've never been living in Manhattan, Google it before u make any comments
Her dress is so beautiful
She is also beautiful with pretty face.
Just seeing Charlotte letting that awkward guy into her apartment.....and closing the door...being in there alone as the guys behavior and comments were fixated on the size of her apartment....gave me anxiety😦😳🥺
Same. So unsafe to do irl.
So Charlotte, how was your date?
Charlotte: Wow!
I once had a guy break up with me after he found out I lived in the suburbs. Pathologically jealous people never want you to do better than them. Ladies (and men) if you meet a jealous person who hates that you're doing better than them, kick them to the curb if they don't dump you first. It's not worth it. Never apologize for doing good for yourself.
Sometimes it's not jealousy. Sometimes it's that the person feel out of place being with a wealthy partner in the first place. Maybe he was intimidated by your status because it meant he had to work harder/spend more than he could afford to impress and keep up with you.
Living in the suburbs is a sign of wealth ?
Living in the city is a sign of wealth not the suburbs !
Besides, it is one thing to be jealous of someone who did well for herself or himself but nobody should be jealous of Charlotte, she is just a gold digger who didn't have the decency to let Trey keep his apartment. Nothing to be jealous about.
He was stupid, he should have played it cool, get her to fall in love with him, marry him and then he was set for life.
@@kachi2782 Most poor people live in inner-cities, not the Suburbs. A classic sign of Middle class & Upper-middle class families in the US since the 1950s are nice Suburban neighborhoods.
@@cutienerdgirl The real estate price tag for a brown stone town house in the upper east side and a house in the suburbs says otherwise !
@@kachi2782 Actually Charlotte came from old money .She probably just wanted someone that matched her financial status.
He's intimidated lol
"wow you're rich" 🤣
It's not always about being intimidated, although that's an usual suspect. There are so much to consider if you're dating out of your economic or social group. You can't enjoy the same lifestyle together with somebody without always having financial considerations is extremely difficult in a relationship.
But they also were on a date on a restaurant that I assume is fine by Charlotte's "standards". The dude was probably spending affluently, above his paygrade, and thought Char was the same.
Charlotte was such a lady. I loved her character the most!
well the guy wasnt that hot for her.
When he says, REALLY IRRITATED - "I live in a studio apartment!" I'm sorry, but that was FUNNY!!!!
It's a co-op, not a condo. :)
And, it isn't just a sum of money that divides them -- it's a whole way of life. Like so many NYC-based books and movies before it, SATC aimed its lens at the class differences that are very pronounced in NYC.
If you watched the series you'd know Charlotte isn't born rich. The apartment belongs to Trey and she shamelessly wrestled it from him despite the fact that there was a prenup. So there isn't really any real class difference. She wasn't born rich, neither did she earn it. She was just a gold digging whore.
My goodness, your mommy sure did a number on you for you to hate women this much. ... Charlotte -- who was self-supporting before and after her marriage! -- wasn't a gold-digger; she was an uber-romantic who thought she had married her prince, only to find out that he had lied to her about major issues that were the bedrock of their marriage. Those lies, plus all the crap she took from Bunny, entitled her to combat pay. And if the roles were reversed, I'd say the man deserved combat pay.
J J
You must be kidding. You can't be serious. Is your post a satire? Her "sufferings" you described are not even worth $1,000. Hahahaha.
Pig Killer you sound like a poor boy who is jealous of a FICTIONAL character.
Waking Up From A Nightmare we get it, you're poor and women don't want you
Stop hating women for marrying well. Who doesn't prefer to marry a wealthier person over a bum
Im sorry, but if my date looked as beautiful as Kristin Davis and brought me home to such a beautiful place, I'd be jumping for joy. Come on, guys. Stop being so insecure. When a guy has a big house and a lot of money, we respect him for his success.
This guy is such a doofus.
Used to hang out with a guy that had a condo like that...he didnt invite friends over much...he was the son of a diplomat but had a regular job while going to college..we asked how long his family lived there..he said 1923. The rich are different they know it and we know it.
That is old money rich that condo was inherited thru generations and those ppl exists on a different stratosphere.
Once had a date who deduced where I went to school... and wouldn't let go of that fact. Kept badgering me about it the whole date--making snide comments about elitism and how I must think I was better than said date. Freaking exhausting. I didn't even bring it up. Find yourself a man who is secure and can run with the punches. Otherwise you'll spend your life propping up his ego.
Where did you go to school?
^the point is it doesn't matter. I'm the same human being I always have been. Where you go to school doesn't change who you fundamentally are.
You should have told her the truth about how low the academic standards are at those schools once you get in. I went to Berkeley and two students my first semester committed suicide after failing exams and failing out because they were already on academic probation. All the suicides I ever heard about at ivy league school were basically never based around academic troubles.
That’s why you shouldn’t invite men over to your house that you haven’t sufficiently vetted!!
I love the last look the guy gaves the apartment when charlotte is closing the door
😅
Next time Charlotte should bring Owen Wilson
😂😂😂
😂😂🤣
What's Owen Wilson got to do with it?
She'll have to listen to Funky Cold Medina while he seduces her though 😂
I would love to see the floor plan of this apartment, is it on the web?
Didn t he realize the magnitude of the richness just by entering the building alone?
This guy started thinking of the price of all the bills to upkeep that place.
MsLunaWinter no shit, but any man is gonna see what she has and automatically think how can I keep up.
Lmao 🤣
If you lived in New York, you'd understand.
this why I am very selective who I invite to my place
This was Hilarious... was your ex a friggin KING
That happens to me too, I'm Peruvian woman with good job. Since I'm peruvian, many man assume I'm poor latina or something like that in need of a man. Most guys specially westerns do not like if a woman (even worse latin woman) makes more than them or live in bigger place than them.
Describe their reactions. That could be amusing.
Don’t date outside your tax bracket.
When he said “wow”… I felt that
I can relate. I worked long, difficult, sleepless stretches to be able to live a better life. Many people work as I did to get to where I am. I feel very fortunate. Other people only see my end result.
He's so rude and uncouth omg
Carlottes co-op is/was worth about 6 million.
What is a co-op?
I had the opposite experience once. Friends took me to a.. let's call it a drug addicts house and I was unaware and so shocked, nothing but lounges and people passed out on them. They had a nice rooftop area though lol. I walked in and said 'nice place' 🤣🤣 afterwards I was like wtf why did you take me there?! From the outside it just looked like a city apartment.. lmao
He may have been feeling like this on the inside but all he needed to say was you have a lovely home....I'd be embarrassed for you to come over to my studio apartment and sit on a futon....and then grabbed her and kissed her. That's it...
When he realises he can not afford her😂
maybe this is an irish thing but its soooo rude to comment on someone elses means! It doesn't matter if they live in a shed or a castle, you just don't bring it up haha
This scene sums up what I learned in my life th hardway, settle for someone who is socially and financially similar to u and want the same things in life. Otherwise it will be difficult

@@eduardochavacano not not necessarily and that is not what I meant btw. Plus I dont know why do u make it okay to shame people who care about financial security. He got dumped a minute after thinking this might be a bad idea.
What's so great about that?
Thats why never bring anyobe home on the first date
The physical gaps btw the dates on this show (other than the guys they actually dated, I guess) and women is amazing.
I live in a 176 square meters apartment and i feel like a king
He's complaining?!!!
what did he expect when he went to that address??
Given it's in New York, yeah. I'd have the same reaction too 😂😂😂😂
American dating surprises me. They smooch first and then let the date out with such formality and courtesy. They say women have sex after falling love but that's clearly not the case in that country. Or maybe the assumption itself is false.
I went through something similar with someone I liked. And now I remember why he’s gone...for good!!! Duh. He kinda mocked my education and I was an honor student. What?! I go through this every so often with someone. Instead of admiring someone, some people get jealous. It’s part of life.
I think it would be especially difficult for men in this position because they're traditionally seen as the providers. Earning far less money than a woman can be a huge blow to the ego and make some feel emasculated. Strict gender roles are so damaging.
_Aura_ are you of Gypsy ancestry, you sound like one.
I love this guys reaction though. I'm from Sydney, Australia and totally get it. I'd probably be the same

If I walked into a love interests apartment in NYC and it was that big I would be intimidated also. Pretty much everyone lives in a studio or with roommates until their early thirties, and if you're doing exceptionally well a small apartment.
This is old money park ave. If u dont know what park avenue is then his reaction is stupid! These apts are old money generational assests that pass down and charlotte got hers in a divorce from an old money guy!!! From the time they drove up to a park ave building he should have known what was up!! So what did he expect her to be living in an apt the size of the maids' quarters from long ago in a park ave. building??? Old money exists in a different stratosphere than the rest of nyc.
