YES. This! Everyone talks about how Carrie should have chosen Aiden over Big. My thought, especially during a rewatch was, but did they actually work as a couple? They were on completely different pages trying to make it work.
The older I get the more I realize how brilliant this show was. It was written by people who really understood the complexity of relationships, trust, toxicity, etc.
which is why I (35f) like Euphoria. It is important to see good dramas that capture current generations' take on marriage, emotions, boundaries, sex, etc. is.
It also bred a generation of women who thought being single and independent and being promiscuous was a good thing until they all got too old to find a man to marry them. They're all over TikTok crying about it still.
Thematic points. Vivienne Westwood = highly exaggerated (couture & high fashion design.) oddly, a Similar silhouette seen here, just without the over the top frills. I agree- this silhouette pared down as shown with Aidan here is one of the most flattering/ & imo timeless, definitely can still be found current day. So: it’s back…if it ever left. (anthro Bridal is first that comes to mind…)
She was female Big to Aiden. She messed with Aiden's heart, just like Big did to Carrie. Carrie begged Big for more commitment just like Aiden is doing in this scene.
OMG you are so right!!! Carrie is the female Big. But honestly I love Aidan but him and Carrie were incompatible. She's so uptight and he's laid back and enjoys the simple things. I mean sometimes it can work, but in the end I think Carrie only went for Big because he had more money.

Big is more mature and sophisticated, he is more intelligent than Aiden and appreciates the same things as Carrie (ie the good life, wine, dinners, cigars, nice clothes ...). It's not just about money. Aiden is uncomplicated, like a cheerful dog. Carrie is a neurotic writer who philosophizes about everything. She needs someone who can understand that side of her.

I'm not trying to be offensive but every time I read one of these "Carrie is such a masochist, Carrie is addicted to pain" comments, I can't help but think what stupid bullsh*t that is. Carrie wasn't addicted to pain or rejection. She tolerated it because she loved the good times and nobody else compared to Big for her. Unfortunately, he took her for granted and that sucks. But let's be real about why she kept going back. She kept going back because she never felt that same chemistry or attraction with anyone else.
He was just too stupid to accept her back and she was like 'you have to forgive me' and she got what she wanted: manipulated him so she could breaks his heart again.
Huge props to SJP and John Corbett. Their acting and chemistry is TOP notch. Everything about their relationship (both S3 and S4) and breakups feel so real.

Relationships can be perfectly fine without marriage. Some people are freedom types - they can be happy without a ring and a piece of paper, some are marriage types, and some change their type after important experiences. Aidan was the marriage type. One could see that at the first time he met Carrie.
put it in his perspective...she cheated on him and not only that when they get back together she is still best friends with the man she cheated on him with, and expects him to be ok with that...Its hard for anyone with those circumstances to trust that person
Natalie Goldman exactly and remember her reaction when he was friends with the barmaid. She hated it and told him in the street “Go fuck her” What a bitch. I hated Carrie. Expecting everyone to do what she wants, she treated Berger like crap. I liked him for calling her on her bullshit. She’s an asshole. Taking big to aidens cabin, screaming at the squirrel, insulting burgers book then telling him they should be able to discuss if she does something wrong. Then when he tells her “nice hat” she insults him as walks away. She can give it but not take it. I hate her. You can’t expect him to be ok with the guy she cheated with but he can’t be friends with a girl. Selfish cow in every way. If he can't take that, then he shouldn't be a writer - they have to hear much harsher reviews than that. Carrie herself heard harsher reviews like when she began working for Vogue. Just cause you date someone, doesn't mean you have to put everything they do on a pedestal, not to mention, Carrie worked her ass off to compensate for her less-than-nice comment to Berger. I really felt for Aiden here. He had totally given himself to Carrie and he truly did love her, but she unfairly led him on and agreed to marry him when she knew she wasn't even close to being ready for that kind of commitment and was eventually going to break his heart. She had a hard enough time letting the guy into her damn apartment and making room for him there. In the back of her mind, she still wasn't over Big. I don't get it. Aiden was PERFECT in every way and soooooooo sexy with his new trimmed down look and short hair. Ironically, Carrie was acting EXACTLY the way that Big acted towards her for so long and she couldn't stand it. Then, she turned around and did exactly to Aiden what Big had done to her as far as being emotionally unavailable and avoiding commitment.
There isn't a scarier word than Loving to death!! All the men who have killed their women for leaving them, they also loved them to death and that goes for women who loved their partners to death. Don't used that word anymore if you think about the meaning behind it... it ain't good
In fairness the fault in this argument lies with Aidan because he should've never proposed to her. He should've left her when she said she wouldn't stop being friends with Big. It was made clear then she would never marry him.
Agree. I think even if I was in love, in a situation like that it would have been an ultimatum - either me or him. Besides, it was Carrie who chased Aidan like crazy Carrie style and initiated getting back together, he didn’t even want it, he was in peace. So at that point, if she refused to stop seeing Big, that should have been that, and Aidan would just stay in the same peace of mind.

I always saw Carrie as not a real person, but a manifestation of everything that can be wrong with you. In that respect I do think she is a great and compelling character. A majority, like myself, though Carrie was cool upon the first watch. But after multiple rewatchings, you realize how self-absorbed and drama ridden she was because she shamelessly refused break bad habits and grow. To me, she and Big ended up together simply because they deserved each other.
+pinkfoundglory Yes, it's amazing the difference in opinion on the characters once you get older and look back at the series. I too thought Carrie was cool, but she is a terrible person. Her cheating on Aiden is one of the meanest things I've seen on TV, in terms of psychological cruelty. He was such a sweetie. It kind of spoiled the show for me a bit, because Carrie became so detestable, and not in an anti-hero interesting way. But just really annoying and un-watchable. I'll never understand why the writers made her so awful. Then there's that great episode when it's Carrie's birthday, and she's sad because she doesn't gave a guy in her life. But it's ruined, because you remember that Carrie did that horrible thing to Aiden and it's impossible to feel sorry for her. I think part of Carrie's charm comes from SJP as she's such a good actress, and seems charismatic and sweet.
I'm not sure what everyone wants Carrie to "grow" into. I think people forget that Carrie and Samantha were closest because they had so much in common. Carrie's main issues were that she couldn't reconcile who she really was with what she thought she was supposed to be.

Thank you. I always thought it was absurd that Carrie not only begged Aidan to go back to her, but pressured(forced) him into accepting her "friendship" with Big--the guy she cheated with the first time around! Aidan broke the mold. I would've said yes to him...twice.
No matter what she was the one who basically begged aiden to get back with her. Going to his house in the middle of the night tossing rocks at his window. Had she just left him alone they would never have gotten in this situation
Aiden is at fault. When someone cheats on you, they have shown they have zero respect for you. No love, no respect. They see you as a game, nothing more. He took her back. When you take back a cheater you are saying "It's ok to cheat on me! I don't mind! Please treat me like garbage!! I love to be disrespected and treated like garbage!"

Yeah, that should’ve been aidan’s first clue that Carrie just wasn’t into the idea of marrying him. Another clue would be if she wasn’t telling people that she was engaged, especially if other men tried to hit on her. Aidan was not wrong to bring up his concerns with carrie about the ring, but trying to force her into marriage that night was not the way. A better time would’ve been when they were in a more private setting and alone.
My ex girlfriend wouldn't even put her engagement ring on a chain. Left it in the box in the glove compartment. Until it was stolen by intruder. Never told her friends or family either.

Y’all just say whatever and barely remember the show… she did wear the ring. She wore it for three episodes, from episode 12 (when he proposed) to episode 14. Meaning she wore it for several months in the timeline of the show. In episode 14 she started wearing it around her neck after the Australian gay guy kept making a big deal out of it. This scene when they broke up was episode 15.
Carrie was too cosmopolitan for Aiden, and he was too organic for her. That's why she never could connect with Aiden. The tie to Big was too great; they were a better fit together. All Aiden wanted to do is settle down and make babies. Carrie was never about that, and that's why her connection to Big could not be broken. I knew all along that Big was The One for Carrie. I definitely can relate to how she feels with regard to relationships, and hers with Aiden. You can't start a marriage together if only one is ready to do it.

yeah i agree. And that's not to say they didn't love each other! But with Aiden's mindset... so you fall in love. What do you do? You get married. What do you do when you get married? You make babies. What do you do with babies? You raise them, love them, teach them about life and what comes along. And then what? Continue working? Retire? What do you do? Does Carrie look like she has answers to these questions? Or like she wants half of those things?
They didn’t want the same things. You can like someone as a person, be attracted to them, but if you don’t want the same things in life then that relationship cannot be.
I think she loved Aidan so much that she only agreed to marry him because that's what he wanted but she didn't want to get married or anything like that and so she was right not to marry him because marrying just to feel sure you won't be cheated on is not a good reason to get married.

I think it was that and Aiden is very pushy. I don’t like people forcing me into a decision either, it’s annoying and tbh I would rather do the exact opposite when they do that.
Watched this show first in my early 20s - watching it now with a lot more relationship experience I️ have a completely different opinion of the characters! It’s crazy!
Same! I re-watched them around 6 months apart. The first time I saw the show I romanticized Carrie and her city-girl lifestyle. It all looked fabulous. The second time around I realized she was not such a good friend and was so self-serving. She always had to talk about her issues with men to her friends but would always dismissed whatever dilemmas they were going through. The show to me went from fabulous to "I can't believe she is seen as likeable."
God knows I hate Carrie...but I have to say I'm on her side in this situation. I see why Aidan wants the security of marriage after what she did, but pushing her into it is not the solution. Marrying someone so that they don't cheat on you is preposterous- and it doesn't guarentee they won't cheat either.

It’s such a different experience reading comments under shows I like with flawed male leads like Tony Soprano and Don Draper vs shows I like with flawed female leads like Carrie Bradshaw and Rory Gilmore. Men are always so... brotherly. “Bros before hoes” seems to be the code they live by no matter what. There’s strength in that unity I realize. You would never see a guy commenting say that even the most flawed male lead didn’t “deserve” their girlfriend or wife. They always empathetic with and root for flawed male leads. Women meanwhile are so... not sisterly. They hate flawed women so strongly and so deeply. Empathy isn’t even on the table for morally imperfect female characters. Everyone struggles to empathize with female characters actually. Even actual nice guys don’t hate flawed male protagonists with this much ire. And flawed male leads tend to be considerably worse than characters like Carrie but still inspire empathy and adoration. Meanwhile, I can’t even find a SatC clip anymore without multiple women calling Carrie some misogynistic slur in the comments at this point. Men and women are socialized differently alright. It’s nuts.
@@AddBowIfGirl youre right, i've had moments where i've hated Carrie but people forget she's a character and if you look at the comments in a lot of videos where she's being problematic and selfish, a lot of people say 'i know someone just like this'. That's the point, she's not supposed to make all the right decisions and do all the right things otherwise the show would be less interesting. We watch Carrie make mistake after mistake and we learn through her mistakes and we see how she re establishes her life each time she has to start over. Miranda was cruel to Steve many times, Charlotte was dismissive and shallow towards Harry originally, Samantha has had her problematic moments too, but they all evade the same criticism Carrie gets as a character. Don't get me wrong, as an younger person Carrie was my fav and as an adult i see her differently, Miranda is the most consistent character and Samantha is the most progressive. But without Carrie and all her mistakes and flaws what kind of show would SATC be!?

Actually on the commentary of S4 they stated that they had them go to that party to make them look like they could be married which make the scene even more ironic.
Aiden did not look as good as he does here. I miss this show or what reminds of, I guess. Really great times, confusing, complicated because of my immaturity, but the best years of my young adult life. Now, I am single unexpectedly but happier than I have ever been living and enjoying the best years of what's left of what's left of my youthful looks...but fading rather quickly.
Aidan was just an all around great guy. Really down to earth and caring. I never liked Big - kinda pompous with his money and power. He knew he had Carrie at his fingertips and knew the right buttons to push. But Big and Carrie deserve each other cuz Aiden deserves better.
I have seen this episode SO many times since it was on TV and it always makes me cry when she carfefully walks up to him and lays down on the floor next to him....
So she finally got what she was asking for, a guy that don't hesitate to say she is the one! And what does she do? The same thing big do to her. We are so dumb sometimes .

Oh please! Aiden wanted to marry her for all the wrong reasons. If he didn't trust her why did he get back together with her? People bash Carrie for getting back together with Big but people aren't as hard on Aiden for getting back together with Carrie. There was obviously tension in that relationship the second time around and Aiden tended to be passive aggressive. They didn't have anything in common. I don't know why people swear she should be with Aiden when it's obvious they were not compatible. Just because a guy is nice doesn't mean he's the one for you. Aiden should've picked up on the signs too. She told him she wasn't ready so why was he pressuring her? If he were a woman he'd be labeled as desperate but because he's a guy he gets a pass because guys can do whatever they want.
She gave him obvious signs that she couldnt be trusted, and that through their 2nd go around she still had feelings for Big. He saw that and made the right choice by dumping her...
I also recall in the 2nd movie he went out to dinner with Carrie and kissed her even though he was married with 3 sons. People always seem to forget that as they're putting this dude on a pedestal.
I actually agreed with Carrie on this one. If Aiden and Carrie had rushed into marriage they would’ve surely ended up in a very messy divorce later on. And trust doesn’t matter either. If Carrie was gonna cheat again, she would’ve done it, with or without marriage. Love her or hate her, Carrie was right here.
Good for you! Met my Aiden three years ago today. It has been the happiest 3 years of my entire life! Was in love with Mr Big and it was nothing but heartache. Aiden came and I almost gave him up because he was "too nice"!! I almost made a Carrie move but luckily I realized before it was too late that my Aiden was the right one for me.
If Carrie was serious about Aidan, she would have agreed to his request to kick Big out of her life. She refused, therefore her heart was never fully given to Aidan even in this scene, and she knew it. Aidan was smart to dump her.

I adored Aidan, but his trust issues caused him to act up and cross the line here. When the person you love is still hanging round with the ex they cheated on you with....you HAVE to walk away. Pressuring someone to marry you is a form of control borne from insecurity. Take away the cheating, and they still really werent right for each other.
Carries cheating made him insecure. As would cheating from your partner would make any of us. Its impossible to recover from a cheating partner. If you keep them around it will just mess with your head and make you insecure and unsure of yourself constantly. Carrie also took it to another level of staying in contact with the person she cheated with. Thats really a low blow for Aidens self estemm.
Ladies, if you can't picture yourself saying yes to a proposal and meaning it with all your heart, don't say yes. Get out before the inevitable breakup becomes much messier than it needs to be.

Yes, that is why the show was soooooo good. It was funny and powerful. I know people consider it a "chick show," but I'm a guy and I loved it! And i'm not gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
You never stand for Carrie but this was Aiden's fault too. When you see that someone doesn't want to commit with you you walk away. You don't push him harder.
The writers did a great job by making Carrie the most absurdly indecisive woman and among all her friends the only one who doesn't know what she wants and keeps hurting everyone in the way of figuring it out yet plays the victim every single time

To all the people blaming Aiden for loving Carrie just look at how Big broke her heart again. She put together a big beautiful wedding something she always dreamed of with Big and he pulled off. Then only wanted to be in the house ordering take out. If you guys feel that Carrie won with Big than I feel sorry for the things your willing to put up with just to get the man you spent 10 years chasing. Aiden is not perfect but I know he would have loved that woman and gave her everything he had to offer.
Carrie was such an annoying person! She was always looking for something to be wrong. Even after she marries Big, she was complaining, she needs to be by herself! Aiden comes into her life, loves her, no games, all on the table accepts her BS of not kicking Big out of her life, and STILL she breaks his heart! Aidan was a breath of fresh air, considering the other types of men Carrie dated. Still, Aidan was controlling. First the pressure to marry him. And as the show later demonstrated, even if Carrie had married him, he would have been after her immediately to have a baby -- all on HIS schedule, whether his plans suited Carrie or not.

I mean there the show never talks about biological clocks. When you get to be in your 30s without kids it drives you mad or pains you and you can naturally get pushy.
in all honesty, Carrie didn't love him like she should have but still Aiden was wanting to marry her for the wrong reasons. he didn't trust her (and has a right to) and though marriage could fix it since he did actually love her. Carrie kinda treated him like Big treated her. he was desperate and wanted her even though they didn't seen right (like carrie was to Big).

I understood where Aidan was coming from in this scene. After a certain point, you just want to marry the one you love. I also understood where Carrie was coming from - especially not wanting to marry Aidan because he didn't trust her.
It tragically funny how the World is... There's a people like Carry who meet a guy like Aiden and she can't love him really and there's a people who's waiting their whole life to meet someone like Aiden, but meets only Carrie's type of persons...
I've met my Aiden and I've never been happier. Hell, I met a man BETTER than Aiden, because Aiden could be a bit controlling and was a pushover when she cheated on him.
Aidan was as adorable and sincere as he could be. He gave her all not once but twice. Sadly, her heart was rooted for Big and she knew it. She sold herself low to the guy who had commitment issues and allowed the very same person to toying with her emotions. At the end of the day, no one but herself was responsible for the drama she created.
I’ll never understand why Aiden was so intent on marrying Carrie, when he knew there was a major disconnect. I’m beginning to think for him it became a big competition … to steal Carrie’s heart from Big. That’s very evident in this scene. Aiden and Carrie were a bad match and I think the writers carried this romance too far. They probably did so because Aiden was beloved by fans.
To people saying: "no woman would ever reject the man who truly loves..." Well that's nonsense learnt from Disney movies. You can fall in love, you can love, but that's not enough. The relationship must gain trust, see how it goes when together, see where it's heading, wait some time and see how it matures... The first years are magical, but then the sparks calm down. It's more important making sure that it's a good one, rather than jumping to the marriage idea based on some romantic fairytale.
There's no "maternal gene", Carrie. That's just love; the stronger it is, the deeper our connection and more encompassing our dynamic gets. My children are _not_ the only people I've felt these instincts for, and I know my husband and father have felt them too.
I don’t know about the rest of you- but this scene was a relief for me- it would have been far sadder had she married him because you KNOW she would have finished killing Aidens heart by cheating on him with Big again and then she would have divorced him anyway. Carrie yells “who else’s would I be?!” like we all don’t know the answer: Big’s. You’ve always considered yourself to be THE woman of Big’s life Carrie- why else would she have refused to let go of him when Aiden asked? Your very serious boyfriend gives you a second chance after you raw dogged Big behind his back for weeks- asks you to stop talking to him which is MORE than fair and all she can say is “I can’t, He’s part of my life”- that’s when Aiden should have dumped her ass for good. He knew she would always prefer running after some creepy schmuck to actually making a life with him. Hell she can’t even spend a weekend at the cabin with her new man without forcing him to have the PRICK that fucked his girlfriend over as a guest to drink his wine and spend the night. Carrie and Big deserve each other because they are horrible people lol

Carrie and Aidan didn't have much together but "love", with Big she found friendship aside from love and they just click better. Sure, Big is unstable and fickle but is Carrie any different? They're perfect for each other.
When I first saw this show, and Carrie and Aidan spent what Carrie called "the only night we would ever spend on that side of the wall," and then paused, I wondered at first if it meant that they would build a real bedroom in the apartment and use that instead. I must have been hoping it would work out! But then Carrie said, "The next day, Aidan moved out," and I felt a real pang! Still, they were not compatible. You could see that all along. They liked almost none of the same things.
It's amazing how I thought Carrie was so cool when I was in my varsity years and now as a grown woman with life experience, I see her as a narcissistic, selfish, idiotic walking red flag. It's weird how Hollywood grooms dysfunction. I think this series was such good entertainment and so iconic but it did send some awful messages about relationships.

No, it's a perfect example of how men think vs. how women think. Men are generally so much more rational and are generally problem solvers. But I felt the same way when my husband and I decided to get married, why wait?
Laura K. Men aren't more rational than women and Aidan is definately not rational. He obviously never managed to trust her again, so why give her a second shot? Rational would have been to say "sorry, I can never trust you again after you cheated" and move on, not have a relatonship with a person they no longer trust and try to push them to marry you. Not to mention that believing marriage would solve your trust issues is also completely irrational. Big was married when he cheated and tons and tons of married people cheat. If anything, believing in such an obvious lie, makes Aidan come across as incredibly stupid

Yo, when I first saw this when I was 22, I agreed with Carrie that Aidan didn't trust her and that's why he HAD to marry her. But now a decade later and about to get married myself, Aidan just loved her deeply and truly. There's a level of love when it comes to "wanting to get married". Just something makes you want to tied your ass to this person in every way, legally and emotionally. It almost feels instinctual. I was living like Big in seasons 1-3, but as soon as I met my husband to be, I had no problem leaving all the men behind and I wanted AND my man wanted (as Aidan put it) "The whole wide world to know that you're mine." I've loved before but I just couldn't commit on that level. There's just some people you love and some people that are THE BIG LOVE. So it wasn't that Aidan didn't trust her, maybe he didnt too, but I think there was no other way to say "I just want to lock this down , that you're my WIFE."

Some people are freedom types - they can be happy without a ring and a piece of paper, some are marriage types, and some change their type after important experiences. Aidan was the marriage type. One could see that at the first time he met Carrie.

The one line that made me tear.
I really felt for Aiden here. He had totally given himself to Carrie and he truly did love her, but she unfairly led him on and agreed to marry him when she knew she wasn't even close to being ready for that kind of commitment and was eventually going to break his heart. She had a hard enough time letting the guy into her damn apartment and making room for him there. In the back of her mind, she still wasn't over Big. I don't get it. Aiden was PERFECT in every way and soooooooo sexy with his new trimmed down look and short hair. Ironically, Carrie was acting EXACTLY the way that Big acted towards her for so long and she couldn't stand it. Then, she turned around and did exactly to Aiden what Big had done to her as far as being emotionally unavailable and avoiding commitment.
And it was brilliant. It breaks my heart.
And SJP plays off the ad-libbed line perfectly. Such a well acted scene.

Agree. I think even if I was in love, in a situation like that it would have been an ultimatum - either me or him. Besides, it was Carrie who chased Aidan like crazy Carrie style and initiated getting back together, he didn’t even want it, he was in peace. So at that point, if she refused to stop seeing Big, that should have been that, and Aidan would just stay in the same peace of mind.

I always saw Carrie as not a real person, but a manifestation of everything that can be wrong with you. In that respect I do think she is a great and compelling character. A majority, like myself, though Carrie was cool upon the first watch. But after multiple rewatchings, you realize how self-absorbed and drama ridden she was because she shamelessly refused break bad habits and grow. To me, she and Big ended up together simply because they deserved each other.

Her cheating on Aiden is one of the meanest things I've seen on TV, in terms of psychological cruelty. He was such a sweetie. It kind of spoiled the show for me a bit, because Carrie became so detestable, and not in an anti-hero interesting way. But just really annoying and un-watchable. I'll never understand why the writers made her so awful.
Then there's that great episode when it's Carrie's birthday, and she's sad because she doesn't gave a guy in her life. But it's ruined, because you remember that Carrie did that horrible thing to Aiden and it's impossible to feel sorry for her.
I think part of Carrie's charm comes from SJP as she's such a good actress, and seems charismatic and sweet.

I'm not sure what everyone wants Carrie to "grow" into. I think people forget that Carrie and Samantha were closest because they had so much in common. Carrie's main issues were that she couldn't reconcile who she really was with what she thought she was supposed to be.

Yeah, that should’ve been aidan’s first clue that Carrie just wasn’t into the idea of marrying him. Another clue would be if she wasn’t telling people that she was engaged, especially if other men tried to hit on her. Aidan was not wrong to bring up his concerns with carrie about the ring, but trying to force her into marriage that night was not the way. A better time would’ve been when they were in a more private setting and alone.
My ex girlfriend wouldn't even put her engagement ring on a chain. Left it in the box in the glove compartment. Until it was stolen by intruder. Never told her friends or family either.

Y’all just say whatever and barely remember the show… she did wear the ring. She wore it for three episodes, from episode 12 (when he proposed) to episode 14. Meaning she wore it for several months in the timeline of the show. In episode 14 she started wearing it around her neck after the Australian gay guy kept making a big deal out of it. This scene when they broke up was episode 15.
Carrie was too cosmopolitan for Aiden, and he was too organic for her. That's why she never could connect with Aiden. The tie to Big was too great; they were a better fit together. All Aiden wanted to do is settle down and make babies. Carrie was never about that, and that's why her connection to Big could not be broken. I knew all along that Big was The One for Carrie. I definitely can relate to how she feels with regard to relationships, and hers with Aiden. You can't start a marriage together if only one is ready to do it.

Same! I re-watched them around 6 months apart. The first time I saw the show I romanticized Carrie and her city-girl lifestyle. It all looked fabulous. The second time around I realized she was not such a good friend and was so self-serving. She always had to talk about her issues with men to her friends but would always dismissed whatever dilemmas they were going through. The show to me went from fabulous to "I can't believe she is seen as likeable."

Why do women hate Carrie so much? It’s such a different experience reading comments under shows I like with flawed male leads like Tony Soprano and Don Draper vs shows I like with flawed female leads like Carrie Bradshaw and Rory Gilmore. Men are always so... brotherly. “Bros before hoes” seems to be the code they live by no matter what. There’s strength in that unity I realize. You would never see a guy commenting say that even the most flawed male lead didn’t “deserve” their girlfriend or wife. They always empathetic with and root for flawed male leads. Women meanwhile are so... not sisterly. They hate flawed women so strongly and so deeply. Empathy isn’t even on the table for morally imperfect female characters. Everyone struggles to empathize with female characters actually. Even actual nice guys don’t hate flawed male protagonists with this much ire. And flawed male leads tend to be considerably worse than characters like Carrie but still inspire empathy and adoration. Meanwhile, I can’t even find a SatC clip anymore without multiple women calling Carrie some misogynistic slur in the comments at this point. Men and women are socialized differently alright. It’s nuts.
@@AddBowIfGirl youre right, i've had moments where i've hated Carrie but people forget she's a character and if you look at the comments in a lot of videos where she's being problematic and selfish, a lot of people say 'i know someone just like this'. That's the point, she's not supposed to make all the right decisions and do all the right things otherwise the show would be less interesting. We watch Carrie make mistake after mistake and we learn through her mistakes and we see how she re establishes her life each time she has to start over. Miranda was cruel to Steve many times, Charlotte was dismissive and shallow towards Harry originally, Samantha has had her problematic moments too, but they all evade the same criticism Carrie gets as a character. Don't get me wrong, as an younger person Carrie was my fav and as an adult i see her differently, Miranda is the most consistent character and Samantha is the most progressive. But without Carrie and all her mistakes and flaws what kind of show would SATC be!?

Aiden did not look as good as he does here. I miss this show or what reminds of, I guess. Really great times, confusing, complicated because of my immaturity, but the best years of my young adult life. Now, I am single unexpectedly but happier than I have ever been living and enjoying the best years of what's left of what's left of my youthful looks...but fading rather quickly.

Oh please! Aiden wanted to marry her for all the wrong reasons. If he didn't trust her why did he get back together with her? People bash Carrie for getting back together with Big but people aren't as hard on Aiden for getting back together with Carrie. There was obviously tension in that relationship the second time around and Aiden tended to be passive aggressive. They didn't have anything in common. I don't know why people swear she should be with Aiden when it's obvious they were not compatible. Just because a guy is nice doesn't mean he's the one for you. Aiden should've picked up on the signs too. She told him she wasn't ready so why was he pressuring her? If he were a woman he'd be labeled as desperate but because he's a guy he gets a pass because guys can do whatever they want.
She gave him obvious signs that she couldnt be trusted, and that through their 2nd go around she still had feelings for Big. He saw that and made the right choice by dumping her...

I actually agreed with Carrie on this one. If Aiden and Carrie had rushed into marriage they would’ve surely ended up in a very messy divorce later on. And trust doesn’t matter either. If Carrie was gonna cheat again, she would’ve done it, with or without marriage. Love her or hate her, Carrie was right here.

Met my Aiden three years ago today. It has been the happiest 3 years of my entire life! Was in love with Mr Big and it was nothing but heartache. Aiden came and I almost gave him up because he was "too nice"!! I almost made a Carrie move but luckily I realized before it was too late that my Aiden was the right one for me.

When the person you love is still hanging round with the ex they cheated on you with....you HAVE to walk away. Pressuring someone to marry you is a form of control borne from insecurity. Take away the cheating, and they still really werent right for each other.
Carries cheating made him insecure. As would cheating from your partner would make any of us. Its impossible to recover from a cheating partner. If you keep them around it will just mess with your head and make you insecure and unsure of yourself constantly. Carrie also took it to another level of staying in contact with the person she cheated with. Thats really a low blow for Aidens self estemm.
Ladies, if you can't picture yourself saying yes to a proposal and meaning it with all your heart, don't say yes. Get out before the inevitable breakup becomes much messier than it needs to be.

To all the people blaming Aiden for loving Carrie just look at how Big broke her heart again. She put together a big beautiful wedding something she always dreamed of with Big and he pulled off. If you guys feel that Carrie won with Big than I feel sorry for the things your willing to put up with just to get the man you spent 10 years chasing. Aiden is not perfect but I know he would have loved that woman and gave her everything he had to offer.
Carrie was such an annoying person! She was always looking for something to be wrong. Even after she marries Big, she was complaining, she needs to be by herself! Aiden comes into her life, loves her, no games, all on the table accepts her BS of not kicking Big out of her life, and STILL she breaks his heart! Aiden was a dream, I wish their were more Aidens in real life!

Aidan was a breath of fresh air, considering the other types of men Carrie dated. Still, Aidan was controlling. First the pressure to marry him. And as the show later demonstrated, even if Carrie had married him, he would have been after her immediately to have a baby -- all on HIS schedule, whether his plans suited Carrie or not.
Only because she cheated and refused to stop seeing big though. He constantly wanted her to prove she was solely interested in him as a result. Once she cheated their relationship became very unhealthy

in all honesty, Carrie didn't love him like she should have but still Aiden was wanting to marry her for the wrong reasons. he didn't trust her (and has a right to) and though marriage could fix it since he did actually love her. Carrie kinda treated him like Big treated her. he was desperate and wanted her even though they didn't seen right (like carrie was to Big).

I’ll never understand why Aiden was so intent on marrying Carrie, when he knew there was a major disconnect. I’m beginning to think for him it became a big competition … to steal Carrie’s heart from Big. That’s very evident in this scene. Aiden and Carrie were a bad match and I think the writers carried this romance too far. They probably did so because Aiden was beloved by fans.
I heard that originally they weren't going to bring him back after the cheating debacle, but changed their minds because he was so loved by fans.

To people saying: "no woman would ever reject the man who truly loves..." Well that's nonsense learnt from Disney movies. You can fall in love, you can love, but that's not enough. The relationship must gain trust, see how it goes when together, see where it's heading, wait some time and see how it matures... The first years are magical, but then the sparks calm down. It's more important making sure that it's a good one, rather than jumping to the marriage idea based on some romantic fairytale.

There's no "maternal gene", Carrie. That's just love; the stronger it is, the deeper our connection and more encompassing our dynamic gets. My children are _not_ the only people I've felt these instincts for, and I know my husband and father have felt them too.
I don’t know about the rest of you- but this scene was a relief for me- it would have been far sadder had she married him because you KNOW she would have finished killing Aidens heart by cheating on him with Big again and then she would have divorced him anyway. Carrie yells “who else’s would I be?!” like we all don’t know the answer: Big’s. You’ve always considered yourself to be THE woman of Big’s life Carrie- why else would she have refused to let go of him when Aiden asked? Your very serious boyfriend gives you a second chance after you raw dogged Big behind his back for weeks- asks you to stop talking to him which is MORE than fair and all she can say is “I can’t, He’s part of my life”- that’s when Aiden should have dumped her ass for good. He knew she would always prefer running after some creepy schmuck to actually making a life with him. Hell she can’t even spend a weekend at the cabin with her new man without forcing him to have the PRICK that fucked his girlfriend over as a guest to drink his wine and spend the night. Carrie and Big deserve each other because they are horrible people lol

Carrie and Aidan didn't have much together but "love", with Big she found friendship aside from love and they just click better. Sure, Big is unstable and fickle but is Carrie any different? They're perfect for each other.
When I first saw this show, and Carrie and Aidan spent what Carrie called "the only night we would ever spend on that side of the wall," and then paused, I wondered at first if it meant that they would build a real bedroom in the apartment and use that instead. I must have been hoping it would work out! But then Carrie said, "The next day, Aidan moved out," and I felt a real pang!
Still, they were not compatible. You could see that all along. They liked almost none of the same things.
It's amazing how I thought Carrie was so cool when I was in my varsity years and now as a grown woman with life experience, I see her as a narcissistic, selfish, idiotic walking red flag. Yo, when I first saw this when I was 22, I agreed with Carrie that Aidan didn't trust her and that's why he HAD to marry her. But now a decade later and about to get married myself, Aidan just loved her deeply and truly. There's a level of love when it comes to "wanting to get married". Just something makes you want to tied your ass to this person in every way, legally and emotionally. It almost feels instinctual. I was living like Big in seasons 1-3, but as soon as I met my husband to be, I had no problem leaving all the men behind and I wanted AND my man wanted (as Aidan put it) "The whole wide world to know that you're mine." I've loved before but I just couldn't commit on that level. There's just some people you love and some people that are THE BIG LOVE. So it wasn't that Aidan didn't trust her, maybe he didnt too, but I think there was no other way to say "I just want to lock this down , that you're my WIFE."
