    Hands down the best review of these glasses. Some reviews don't even get to the 120Hz part which is one of the main features that sets it apart. The dock not working on a Slteamdeck is also important information that I hear the first time here. And regarding 9:23 yeah, why the benchmarking of phones when only few can output this laptop like power to a laptop sized screen or glasses? Phone screens are too tiny for productivity or most games, I don't get it.

      I described them as like the 2000s sunglasses, but ur description is more accurate 😂
      Anyway, they did say they were coming out with Rokid Max Pro later in 2023 (I think), so maybe that one might look more like regular glasses? I say this bc the glasses cover that comes with this is oddly enough shaped like normal glasses, so I was wondering y the shape design was so different. Sure, it could b bc they want to cover more below the glasses, but I'd like to think that maybe it could be a design for the Rokid Max Pro as well to save production cost? Who knows 😅

I still don't see Android Desktop Mode can truly replace desktop-grade Windows/macOS/Linux, but it's such a truly useful feature on smartphones that it makes you wonder why would you buy an Android tablet or a Chromebook laptop at all in the first place when you can easily travel light with just the phone and the AR glasses.

    Part of the confusion is all the missmatching with USB-C.
    Many people think any old USB-C port/cable can work or should be able to 'do the thing they are trying' as it is USB-C. When it is only capable of 2.0 speeds or just basic data tranfer.

      The progress is exciting. When the first cinema screen came out, it was larger than a VR headset, and cost well over $1000 accounting for inflation. Less than two years ago, a more portable version of that idea would have cost over $700.
      Now, these glasses are only a little more expensive than a good portable OLED with a slower 60Hz refresh rate. If you're looking to pack a portable display, the pricing is falling in line REALLY close to an actual panel you would have to pack like a laptop. It's not really THAT exotic anymore. You're paying a premium for the miniaturization.

    These vs Nreal Air, all things considered? Price, interface, fit, sound, picture quality? Im looking at the Max simply because it's newer. The 120hz and the diopters are a nice extra feature, but with the diopters, I wouldn't need it for me (did the diopters cause any blurry, fuzzy or not so clear picture quality issues?) . l would probably mostly use them for videos and the Steam Deck (any heavy games wouldn't even use the 120hz). Potentially, the occasional Samsung Dex use. But, if I'm not mistaken, Nreal has been at it for longer, so I'm curious as to if their interface is more refined and further along? One of Tested's valid complaints of the space was the lack of using sensors to fix the image to one place so you can move your head to see the full image, which is more natural than darting your eyes around. The XReal Beam seems to try and solve that. With the max being a larger FOV is that problem worse?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  Год назад

      It's about the same as the other options I've played with, but I haven't gotten my hands on beam yet. the 3 degrees of tracking will be a bit limited, especially if your head moves in space around a room.

    • @justinbaker2883
      @justinbaker2883 Год назад

      @@SomeGadgetGuy i think the space just needs 2DOF. 3DOF will take too much compute and would needs more sensors which is counter to the vision of these manufacturers.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  Год назад

      Well, it gets complicated on what we're trying to achieve. Say I have a photo, and I blow the photo up to several times the size of the headset's field of view, the glasses actually do this pretty well if my body stays in a fixed position, and I can move my head around to see pieces of a zoomed in image.
      The ORGANIC experience of leaning into an image and leaning away from an image can't be replicated with only 3dof, but you still need 3dof to look around the image from a fixed position.
      It's why these companies all have bulkier options like the Rokid Vision for better head tracking and object "permanence".

    Hi this is Mark. I am 62 and not a techy. I am looking for some type of glasses to just watch movies. Is Rokid max. What I need. I don't do any gaming. Thanks for your opinion.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  4 месяца назад

      Hello Mark, I think these are a good place to start. Think of them like headphones for your eyes. Not all headphones are comfortable to all listeners. If the Rokid don't fit you comfy, then you can also try XREAL and TCL/Rayneo.
      Plug them into a laptop, play your movie, you should be good to go.
      Or you can get the Rokid Max with the Rokid Station, and the station will act like a TV with a Chromecast.
      Happy hunting!

      There's a bit of fringing for me on the extreme edges of the display. Also, even though I'm farsighted, my eyes are not EQUALLY farsighted, and it takes a bit of fiddling to get the fit on my nose dialed in. EVERYONE's face is different. That's the main takeaway I hope people will understand.
      From playing with Google Glass, to Focals by North, to these new wearable displays, what works for one person won't work for another. There's no way to make this tech universally perfect for every face AND make it this inexpensive.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  Год назад

      Not that I've seen? So if I have it connected to my laptop, I'm watching the video over VLC, VLC is sending video out based on the frame rate of the file.
      Using other services or apps, YOU CAN toggle settings in those apps to turn on "fluid motion" modes, but the glasses aren't going to automagically add those extra frames.
