- And we have yet another Micro OLED headset! At only 83g, the Rokid Air is a truly sleek AR headset. The company says this could project a 120" screen into mid-air to watch videos and play games. But is that so? I am here to check that out.

Wow, it displays the equivalent of a 3 mile wide screen!... at 5 miles away.
Haha exactly...
I appreciated this guys video. It was well made. I would like to interject a couple of facts. Fact 1, it does produce 120 inch screen. He saw less then 24 inches because he was close to his monitor which shrinks the screen. The glasses are similar to a protector. The further away from the object your projecting onto the larger the screen you will see.
Fact 2 it does do ar. The app for the glasses has to be download. These glasses are truly awesome. My wife wanted me to turn off the TV so she could go to sleep for work the next day. No problem, I put the glasses on and hooked them up to my lg wing 5g. Put my ear buds in and enjoyed the UFC PPV on a 120 inch screen. After about 5 minutes I forgot I had the glasses on and I became emersed into what I was watching.
Thanks for the helpful information.
what if there are no walls or projecting surface around you, are you still able to see a projection? if yes, what size?
Just got mine yesterday. Haven't stopped discovering how many different ways this is going to come in handy. To those dissing it, don't knock it till you try it. Also, the price will go down eventually. It's the beginning of the creative process not the end all. Things will improve or all you Nay sayers can just crush it before it has a chance and go back outside and play with your rocks and sticks while you wait for a miracle. SMH
great review.. saved me research time and kept me from wasting money!
That's what MRTV is here for! Either I will save you money or really make you pay! Haha! What's always true though: independent and honest!
Thanks Sebastian & MRTV for the amazing review! Just FYI, Rokid Air has 3DoF mode in the Rokid Air App available for compatible android phones. There's actually more stuff we can do with the Rokid Air App other than just watching movies, thanks for the review!
@EDM & CGA it really isn't the same form factor though....
Thanks mate. I'm waiting for the Hololens to become this size. That will be the ultimate AR glasses to wear for day to day computing.
Sounds like it's basically an NReal Light without the sensors but with those diopter dials and louder speakers. But NReal can make *some* content (RUclips...) stay in place, meaning you set your video screen on the wall and it stays there as your head moves and you walk around. Which feels much more natural than being locked to every tiny head movement.
This reminds me of a device made by MicroVac back in the 90s. The device was a pair of sunglasses with a mirrored projector that could connect and show to any thing with RCA out or broadcast TV and projected a slightly transparent 90 inch screen on the eye. It had a battery time of about 2 hours and cost around $500 USD.
How do you connect these with an iPad ?
@@Wolf-xu1fj an adapter
@@TheZoenGaming what kind of adapter?
Thanks for your honest review. 120" not as advertised just 24". You just save me 400+ dollars.
Do u know of any similar product?
I am disappoint with that FOV too, definitely overpriced.
I'm not interested in the Rokid Air, but I'm definitely interested in the Rokid Air 2. That technology is amazing, I'd love to have Video Glasses like that! But it needs to either be much cheaper ($200ish) or have a better FOV. That size and technology is definitely the future, though!
@EDM & CGA Why not wait for Rokid Air 3/4/5 ?....If your looking for all that technology within a £200 budget, you could invest in being cryogenically frozen for 50years and when you wake up I am sure your be able to get what you want for £200.
Brings me back to an old book called "Garage Virtual Reality" where the author showed how to make goggles from scratch. Also manipulate with Nintendo power glove. Ahhh those were the days. Back in 1987?
Nice tech and Seb the formfactor is great, don't put the size too much down to the lack if cameras, that really wouldn't increase the size much, maybe if you add eye tracking, cooling and the like it could get slightly bigger but for proof of that size is legitimately small you only have to look at the Shiftall MeganeX. The 120" screen is dodgy though! I'm 175cm away from my 60" Sony TV and judging by you hands I would say that size is more applicable.
all THIS GOODNESS IS COMMING UP
Seb 1) Does this work on PC with alt display port (Type-c)? Obviously this isn’t the same technically as Type-C to HDMI adaptors as the other is for Display port access.
2) The other question is do they sell their own adapters for HDMI or Display ? Mobile is very limiting.
3) The 120” screen is there any option or accelerometer to pan around or it only stationary fixed in front of your face?
Thanks for sharing!
Great review ! Unfortunately, the FOV needs to be way larger
No 3.5 mm audio jack? Is there a USBC to USBC/3.5 splitter that would work? Or USB c to two USB C's splitter?
This video deserve more likes and its free
ty bro
i had avagant glyph with a similar fov and was quite disappointed when i first bought them at screen size, but once you settle down with them the actual sense of scale through them was really good aka someones head on the screen felt like it was much bigger than your own head etc. a trick of the brain from looking at two tiny screens opposed to a single screen right in front of you, i might look into these further but i already have a quest 2 and video aint too bad at all so project cambria hmm
For cinemas, THX suggest that the best (horizontal) viewing angle from seat-to-screen is 40 degrees. If Rokid could get to 4K per eye with the virtual screen having a 40 degree horizontal viewing angle even at a significantly higher price I think they'd have a niche product for competing for a segment of the high end television market.
Any cinema can easily provide that. What is the advantage of IMAX screens compared to a quality standard cinema? (Never been to IMAX myself.)
IMAX is a bit of a bundle - the wider screen, the higher resolution filming, and the director choosing shots that don't have audience members swiveling their heads from side-to-side. With those three elements coming together it's more impactful.
Thank you for the review, you are the only one who talked about actual screen size, seems like others are just paid reviews. Eh, and i was really thinking of buying these to use as the single PC monitor for gaming and stuff, since it was advertised as OLED and "120 inch". BTW does Micro OLED have burn-in problem?
Glad you found my channel.
My usecase will be to combine it with my Steam Deck - instead of wearing glasses to read my screen, I will wear the Rokid with diop-dial to have an even bigger screen! Just plug it into Steam Deck, it will shut off it's screen and mirror it to the glasses, and so the battery life should be the same... I've "backed" it now and hope they will deliver it soon! xD
479 US$ is too much. I would also like to know whether it works with the Steam Deck.
It works with the steam deck. Saw that in another review video.
Love
Hi , i like your video , is there headphone jacks on it also does the screen go back on the phone or tablet while playing ?ty
For full evaluation you need to also use the glasses with their app.
I don't know how he overlooked that
I can tell you that you're not missing much. The App is pretty crappy. You're way better off using the phone's Web browser and it's own streaming apps and mirror the display to glasses, than use Rokid's movie apps, which is slower, less responsive, and ui doesn't interact well with the pointer.
As for their 3Dish games... it uses orientation tracking, but the tracking on these glasses are very bad. You get a lot of jerking/stuttering/juddering. Not at all smooth, so if you do have games where you can look around a 3D environment, it's so jerky that it was simply unplayable. If you're getting something for 3D games, you're better off spending the money to get an Oculus Quest.
These are primarily great for mirroring a display on a small device, or to replicate a desktop environment, like using Samsung Dex, or just chill and watch a movie while you're laying down or reclined. Then it's a question of whether it's worth $500 for you to do just that.
Stuff like this feels like the google cardboard/gear vr of AR
plz review Mad Gaze Glow Plus Augmented Reality headset too as it has higher fov but no diopter adjustments
I want to know can we wear it when driving, it would be great to see the map on the glass
Does the Rokid Air glasses support Samsung DeX using something like the Samsung S10 or Android screen mirroring?
This sounds like a vr display from the reviews. Is the video transparency adjustable to use it as a ar hud?
The intro music scared the shot out of me.
Is it possible to zoom the image closer tomthe eyes to eliminate the black zone all around the image?
demeo master !!!!! 1200 hours i play all game mrty you are gooooooooingggg to be ritch VR BEGIN !!!!!! YODA 2022 GJ brooooooooooooooooooo
Any chance you’re able to also review similar Viture One?
How is the text clarity? When I want to do news reading on a PC browser?
Can we use it with a mirrorcast to see the image from the phone? Because I use the phone with my drone.
Does anyone know of any glasses that actually does give you a 120" screen with good quality? I heard at ces about the tcl air glasses but so far those haven't ever made it to market. I really do want just the video glasses functionality with a big screen for airplane trips and travel etc.
An quantifiable resolution test could be useful
Where does it say anything about it being micro OLED?
I can't find any mention of that on the indiegogo page.
Hi which is best for watching movies vr or this or nreal? Plz explain
How well do they work as sunglasses? Are they comparable to a high quality set of sunglasses?
Hello, could you please recomend a headset to play any hdmi game console in a huge screen, please
Is this worse than the nreal in terms of fov/ apparent screen size? Because it also has similar optics and screen
He never downloaded the Rokid Air app, the app makes them AR they are absolutly AR you can freeze the screen in place with the app and walk around the screen. Also it has voice control capabilities which you never even looked at. Also the screen can be enlarged the stock screen yes is smaller but with the app it can be enlarged quiet abit more.
Did you tried the app that you are suppose to use with it?
arpara changing lenses lol ty mrty : ) got 2 aio.....
What about connecting to a laptop on an airplane to edit Excel files and or other documents work related? Your laptop would stay in your bag under the seat with the lid closed, a wireless keyboard on the airplane tray and these glasses on.
Yep that could work
Yes, I use the glasses as a second screen on my works laptop. It's good in a pinch, and the resolution is good.
pretty much the same as the Nreal. I wonder why the field of view or the projection is too small. this is like the size of a laptop screen at normal distances. It is also easy to drive 1080p display to 120Hz
Uploader please infiorm - can we watch primevideo , Netflix and other OTT channels on native resolution on these ? is this device HDCP certified ? if yes - which version of HDCP ? i do not want to buy first and regret later - please clarify
I am at work so I can't find a good answer to this question just yet. So I am just going to ask here. I am looking for a hmd that I can hook up to my consoles. These where one if the options I considered. The main thing I need to know. Is is really a 120 inch tv. Or is it ai "120 once tv views at 20 feet away? This has been one of the biggest issues in shopping for a hmd. I just want a big screen a right in front of my face. Not a tiny screen that seems like it's 20 feet away.
The answer is no and it's in the video. ;)
Now that I am off work. I could get a good look at the size. That's super disappointing. Was about to buy it during a bathroom break but, that's just not worth the money it seems. Why must it be so difficult to find a good hmd -_-
This seems like more of a replacement for the moverio bt300
You would need to use the Switch dock to output to HDMI and then HDMI to USB C adapter. The Switch doesn't output video through USB C directly.
That’s not true because I can output video from my switch using the usb type C port and connect it to my gaming monitor using only a usb type c to usb type c wire.
not bad but the fov is below my expectation. thanks for the review.
How do you connect these with an iPad ?
I wonder if you can hook it up to your computer and look at your monitor
$100 maybe. I can watch a film on the Quest2 and it feels like I'm watching it at the Imax (Snyders Justice League was glorious), and if you move your head the screen doesn't move. The hardware may be nice but the functionality doesn't command nearly $500.
is the quality with the headset as good as cinema? cos of the less pixels im skeptical whether a vr headset will be any good for watching movies cos im a big cinephile
@@sj-bg4up it's a little pixelated. I'd say equivalent of between 720p and 1080 resolution. Netflix looks pretty decent and can't beat having this on the go or for travel. Speaking of the oculus quest 2 of coarse
@@italydude515 ah okay. I’ll just wait for the cambria then. If I can watch something on the big screen in Atleast 1440p then it’s worth the investment
@@sj-bg4up The Quest 2 is no good for cinema. The low contrast LCD screen is not good enough for that use. Even the Quest 1 was better for that. It's a good idea to wait for the Cambria or any good micro OLED headset.
@@sj-bg4up No, if I had a choice of popping next door to watch a 3D film at the Imax I 100% would. The blacks can look crushed and there's still not enough pixels to make it next gen view reality, but... I have a Quest2 and Valve Index (with better optics) but I'll still watch films on the Quest2 as I can sit back in my recliner, head fully rested against the back (due to the fabric head band) enjoying a giant screen rendition of Lord of the Rings :) But if you're a cinephile I'd probably go with home cinema setup - my neice and boyfriend have one and it's beautiful - closest thing to a cinema experience without someones mum checking her mobile phone every 5 freaking minutes!
dude...does the cell phone hasve to suport display port out? other wise, won't work w/a phone
What would you say would be best rokid air or nreal air or nreal light
Yes this is a great question.. I would love to know this
I’m thinking about getting this
Does it work on any smartphone? What phone do you have?
Any smartphone that can output their USB-C to Display should work. Most recent gen Galaxy phones should work, and will let you use it in Dex mode. Ipads can mirror with direct USB-C connection. Until iPhones uses USB-C, then no on those.
can someone tell me why it’s not turning on or working
Can you compare to Nreal air
are waterproof or only indoor ?
I"m getting this really early as a Bday present. I convinced my wife, and two grown kids to get me it so I don't have to use my money for it. I feel that if I use my money I will have regrets about it because right meow I'm trying to save up for my dream motorcycle which I will be getting next year. Right meow I'm awake and haven't gone to sleep yet. I do work tomorrow, but I only work for couple of hours and pretty late in the evening.
So I just got the nReal Air and I noticed an issue with your size explaination.
It seems that glasses like these have an optical illusion.
When sitting at my desk with 27" monitor and a wall about 2 feet in front of me, the virtual screen seems about the same size as my 27 monitor.
but if I turn around and look at my far wall, the exact same image seems about 100-150 inches!
This can easily be solved with some math, and how we perceive depth.
Because the images you are seeing is a fixed size filling a specific amount of your FOV. If you bring your face close to a surface like 1ft away then the screen will seem like you are holding a Nintendo switch in front of your face.
The best way to describe it is if you make a square with your hands where you see the edge of the screen and the. Turn to a direction where objects are 10 feet away leaving your hands in the same position. Then your hands will be covering a larger area because our vision is a cone.
Haha, nope, however you spin it: this is not a big virtual screen. :)
@@mixedrealityTV Did you try what I said? It is strange if you don't see the phenomenon.
Of course it is possible that the Rokid Air is just smaller than the nReal Air. I've been hearing that from quite a few people who have both.
You don't actually have a review on the nReal Air's do you? You should get a review pair.
Also there's a new one that just opened preorders called the Viture One which looks very promising. One channel already has a preview of them I'm sure if you reached out they'd let you do a unbiased preview MRTV style.:).
ruclips.net/video/CMX4_G71Yuo/видео.html
It works with steamdeck. Plug and play.
but can they do sbs 3d , like my ana glyph can
Dude...the indigogo page does not allow ecommerce for this item?? whats up with that?
How do I get them to turn on I plugged it in to my phone and I'm not getting nothing? Can anybody help?
Is your phone compatible
It would be nice if it works with pc too
It got nothing on quest vr
I bought one it like an 24 inch screen.
Thank you for the size reference. That's nowhere near the theater experience of a VR headset when watching a movie.
It’s price makes it Impossible to say I want one, it has to be 250$ then I can see people buying it.
Please tell me if I’m wrong?
what about pc gaming with xbox controller? i agree price heavy, they should consider $300 - $350
Thanks for the questions, it works with an extra HDMI to Typc-C converter.
I use it with my laptop that runs Xbox GamePass, and it works good.
Question is, can it do 3D video? It seems an ideal case for that. If this could do proper stereoscopic 3D movies, that might be pretty nice. Either way, these are bound to be more immersive than watching a movie on your phone (by a lot) and I like the concept. Spending some hours on a plane or ship and being able to comfortably watch a movie or some TV-shows is a nice use case. Or maybe when working out - I have an elliptical and watching video on a tablet while using it is possible but not that great. This might work out great. I'm really tempted to get one.
yes they can do 3d video these work as advertise they are AR you just
need to download the app for that function. Which he never did.
@@KaraokeCody why isn't the app built in?
@@edisonchin2463 the device itself has no software it replys on an android phone to function. There is no storage on the device itself.
My only question is: can it connect to PC ? if yes, via cable or bluetooth? and can it run 180/360 sbs/upDown VR Videos ? my only purpose would be this because to only watch vr videos i could also get an gear VR or smartphone galaxy s20 etc... but my main goal is: hook up an VR HMD device to my laptop (gtx1650) and watch VR videos, also play some games in 3D with reshade..
Read my comment in one of the replies below for more details... But the main point, is that a screen that small, is not going to allow for much perceptible 3d Depth. The effect will only be slightly better than a Nintendo 3DS. Its not going to be like an IMax3D level experience. Not even close to it.
You would likely have a better stereoscopic 3D effect from standard VR glasses.. because they are magnified, to create a much larger FOV.
The volume cannot be adjusted with the iPad Mini. This is only possible with Android devices.
for me, this cheat even in the photos shows about 50" from a distance of one meter and as you can see even not that much. It's so tragic that I'm inclined to believe that you missed some setting but I doubt it.
Nothing in the settings lets you change FoV
Def wouldn't pay 400
sorry for casps knowledge is power : ) : ) yoda
Hey @MRTV can you use your own headphones with them at the same time? I imagine using the speakers in public places would probably annoy other commuters.
No, you can't. Perhaps Bluetooth to your phone could work though.
@@mixedrealityTV thanks for replying, much appreciated and good to know.
NReal Air vs Rokid Air, Before you spend $400... please :-)
dont buy lvl 1 ar ( buy quest 2 buy demoeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeM ) ty mrty for review TYTYTTYTTTY
if the screen can not b fixed at a certain area: how is it when u move your head? problematic for njoying a movie?
The screen can be fixed. When using their app, you get an option to do that. Unfortunately, the orientation tracking is horrible, and you get a lot of stuttering/jerky movements. Much better to just have it follow your head, which works just fine to lay down or recline to enjoy a movie.
@@got_logic1320 oki, so unintentional micro-movments while watching a movie are not an issue?
@@abrockkalypse Only if you're mirroring the display, it's not problem. Looks nice, and even though it follows your head the movements didn't bother me.
But do not do Fixed screen with this. Like I said, the 3DoF and Orientation tracking is horrible. Very shaky and stuttering movements even from just very minor head moving. The AR part of this device just doesn't work well at all.
@@got_logic1320 thx for info.. one more question: the glasses have a weight of 88 g.. is it inconvenient to wear them about hours?
@@abrockkalypse oh yeh, super light and pretty comfortable. I wear glasses myself and these don't feel much more heavier on my face. Most I've used it was about 2 hours straight, so far, but have not felt any discomfort. I think my eyes got a little tired from staring too long so had to take a break anyway. They are bright displays pretty close to ur eyes, so eye strain might occur from using too long, or having it too bright in a darker environment. But it's also easy to change brightness levels by pressing a button on the top right glass temple.
Also keep in mind this uses power from ur phone and you can't charge ur phone at the same time, so you're limited to your phone power for time of use anyway.
Overall they are a great portable display option. Just not sure they are worth 500 when the AR part isn't a great experience imo. But you do you.
From what you tell us, that should only cost $ 100.00
Yeah... I was really getting sucked into this AR stuff - I wanna pc/PS/Xbox/android game on a MASSIVE screen... But, well, total let down. I want a Quest 2 cinema screen size in a pair of glasses. Doesn't have to be 3D or VR or anything like that, just a massive screen. Doesn't even have to have any bells and whistles - just a massive screen you can plug USC-C or has an adapter so HDMI into and ALL devices work and all it shows is the screen. So it's just a monitor with a massive screen. No connection? No picture. Simples.
And all the apps and stuff? I've owned a Quest 2 for 2 years now and at best they are equal to a quest - but usually laughable. And that's 2 year old tech now so...
Guess this isn't being marketed at me at the moment - but anyone who is buying one of these? Unless you want a piddly screen for journeys (and if you do, good on ya!) I'd recommend a vr headset... Ah man, I'm so disappointed.
But thanks for the honest review dude, awesome! You saved me money!

Also 3d sbs ready on the go without driver .
You can also use the official rokid app
An you will be able to use A.R capability and see 3d 360 vidéo ,movies and apps..
Really more powerfull than the Nreal that i also have ..
Excellent 3D effects, are only notably good, when using a very large screen size. The reason, is that the depth of how far an image can Pop out of the screen... is less that half of the size of the screen. So, on a 15" screen... you could make a small ball come out less than 7". However... since things close up in a camera are much larger in size... such as a huge asteroid... that 7" is more like 3"... due to how they balance the 3d depth effects.
I used to own both a pair of 3d glasses for my PC, that played a few 3d versions of some older dos games. Ive also owned the Sega Master System 3d Glasses. Both were cool... but they couldnt even come close to comparing to the 3d depth effect from an Imax 3D film experience.
Since the Imax screen is like 60ft... and the seating is more vertical and is CLOSER to the screen than a typical movie theater... the 3d images come out of the screen, about like 7ft away from your body.
A former friend of mine, bought a 3d projector. It was only 720p. However, he projected the image on to a screen that was like 14 foot wide. At about 14ft away from the screen... the images were like 5ft away from you. As if you could reach out and grab them. It was virtually the same 3d depth experience, as an actual Imax3d projection. (smaller screen, but same proportional distances: screen size to distance away from screen)
This Devices screen, is like a 20" pc monitor, floating about 3ft away from you... from the way Sebastian is showing things + the way it looks through the glasses. Its not even close to 120 inches... let alone, the depth and field of view, from a 14 foot wide screen. Its WAY overpriced, and completely Lame.
I've used real AR glasses, NReal Light with its 6DOF sensors. 3DOF isn't good enough for AR - it helps but you can't lock something to the wall or anything. And the official Rockid Air website says it only does 60hz, not 75hz
Yeah get this glases for 500$… oooorrrrr just get the quest 2 for the same price that can do the same thing and a lot more….
$100 cheaper and more capable 🥴
7-12inch tablet screen equals 120inch screen...out of immersion
Can it play minecraft.. thats all I need.
I think yes
My take, wait a few years and look again. Spending over $300 on this is expensive..
