I used to be addicted to ready salted crisps (chips in the US) but after 3 years WFPB I have genuinely stopped craving all that salt and oil, I think I would find them too greasy and salty, and they're not worth me possibly falling off the wagon when I'm so genuinely happy with the whole plant food I eat every day. At 57 I finally love my body (even the droopy wrinkly bits and the loose skin), being healthy and slim is such a wonderful feeling, and I can cover the saggy bits with great clothes. I finally think I look good and I don't mind that it came so late in life, it still feels amazing. Thank you Ryan, Tia and the supportive WFPB community as you've enabled me to do this on my own and provide regular motivation and tips. If I was at the beginning of my weight loss and health journey I would definitely join their programme(s) and invest in their books, these two are the best!

I guess I still haven’t made the FULL TRANSFORMATION just yet, because sometimes I feel like I really miss a yummy grilled cheese - and the plant based/homemade cheese just doesn’t hit the spot the same. With that said, I cannot eat dairy cheese any longer as my body has made the change my mind hasn’t as it will make me sick, even if people sneak it into something, my body will know when something is an animal product ingredient! I am very grateful for that!

Meat and dairy are just as expensive as the processed vegan food. But eating the whole food is best for everyone, the animals and the planet.

I’m so happy there’s people on RUclips for me to find guidance. I began my WFPB journey in January. I should have had my bloodwork done prior so I’d have a baseline. Just got my labs back and I felt crushed…Triglycerides are 312, LDL 138, HDL 42…I am 5’4 and weigh 158-down 30lbs. I don’t eat meat alternatives, salt, oil, or sugar and I’m discouraged, but I won’t stop what I’m doing because I feel like my labs are just a marker of the changes in my body. I hope I’m not wrong. The doctor wants to put me on meds, told me to stay away from root vegetables…I told her to give me 3 more months and a referral to a nutritionist. I’m going to lean into mostly eating large salads, topped with lentils and see how this effects my numbers. I would love any feedback and guidance.

Be concsious about the type and amount of fruit you are eating. Depending on which vegan camp you are most influences by, try to avoid the large fruit smoothies and dried fruit. Rather focus on berries, apples, pears, citrus and kiwi, and also not in excessive amounts (3-4 fruits eaten as whole per day). Even if you dont eat oils and the WFPB community normally does not advise for tracking calories, try tracking your food (every morsel you eat and drink) for about two weeks. This will give you very good data you can start to work with. A lot of people who eat no oil compensate with high fat foods (nuts and avocado) or a lot of fruit to find satiety and satisfaction with their meals. Try to opt for 1800 - 2300 calories and try to not eat more than 50-60g of fat (oil or whole food sources). Of course you cannot give exact requirements for each individual, but that is a good range to be in - you are not under and overeating and assuming that you have normal regular daily activities (walking etc). A lot of WFPB folks are often undereating (1300-1500 calories) and then binge, or they are eating too many calories from what they think are healthy foods (3000 calories and more from large smoothies with bananas and dates for example). If you have trouble feeling satisfied and then overeating, try to include more fats and even fry your food in a little oil (trying to stay in the 50 - 60 g fat range total per day). Having food that tastes good is so much more satisfying and you will eat less overall calories. Also up your protein if you have problems feeling satisfied (tempeh, smoked tofu, legumes). I personally do much better with less fruit (made me hungry all the time) and more proteins and fat. Another factor can be coffee intake. If you are a coffee lover (like me), try to choose filtered coffee options instead of espresso/neapresso type coffees. Unfiltered coffee contains the coffee oils (cafestol) which can elevate triglycerides. These coffee oils are largely kept up by a filter (although not completely. Other than that, try to gentle movement as much as you can (go for 1h walk outside every day).

Thank you so much for such a detailed response. I will track my food intake. I do not eat dried fruits. I’ve limited my avocados to maybe a whole avocado a month…I had veggie sushi with asparagus, cucumber and avocado. I do drink one cup of drip coffee a day.

@@jolenesheehan8560 thats very little fat you eat. Will be interesting to see when you are tracking. Maybe you overeat in total calories because you eat so low fat. As i said i felt much better and ate less (in quantity and total calories) when i ate more fat (and protein). I wish you all the best on your journey - you will do it❤

Yes I've been on SS for probably 6 weeks. My weight has not budged and my clothes still feel too tight. Very disappointing . I've decided to lean towards more salads and small amount of lentils or beans. Summer in on the way.

Loved this interview! Thank you, Tia for sharing about your gall bladder situation. I too have been advised to have gall bladder surgery, but I chose to to change my lifestyle instead. I have had no issues so far! It's so good to hear about someone else who chose this path and it has worked out for you. Thank you!
