A Dream Tiny House Retirement - Simple Downsized Living At It's Best

  • Brenda and Peter sold up their big home and downsized into a brilliantly designed tiny house to free up capital and live big in their retirement! Their home is super low maintenance and gives them the freedom to focus on the things in live that really matter to them, spending quality time with their family and travel!
    The home has a single level design with downstairs bedroom and everything has been designed to be highly functional and easily accessible. This tiny house has a huge kitchen, a great sized bathroom and loads of storage!
    Next to the main dwelling is an additional pod which functions as Brenda's craft room and Peter has his workshop, so there's still plenty of space for hobbies and keeping busy. The couple have also used some of the money from the sale of their large home to purchase a caravan allowing them to explore the country in style!
    Their tiny house was constructed by their daughter Rebecca, who owns a tiny house building company (www.tinyhousebuilders.co.nz). They were initially inspired to downsize after trying out tiny house living during lockdown and loved it so much, they felt their larger home no longer made sense.
    This is a fantastic house design which has given Brenda and Peter greater quality of life in retirement. We hope you enjoy the tour!

    One of the things I've always loved about tiny houses, is that they can help to free up resources and improve quality of life. In this case, Brenda and Peter have sold up their larger home and downsized into a wonderful tiny house, giving them greater financial freedom for their retirement. Again, it's awesome to see a fantastic example of multigenerational living working really well, with their tiny house parked up on their daughters land. We hope you enjoy the tour! With Love, Bryce & Rasa

      Oh my!! I can easily see why this is an award winning design. And the vista just takes ones breath away. From what I've seen in your vids New Zealand seems to be one of the prettiest, unspoiled lands I've ever seen, thanks you you and Rasa.
      This tiny home not only checks all the boxes for them, but also for me. It's highly wheelchair accessible from front to back. Especially with all that expanse of deck. I love the little craft pod and wish there had been a more in depth view and the storage solutions for two such different crafts. And that little greenhouse garden was just meant for puttering around care-free. I think the only thing I would have changed it adding a cooktop and oven, since cooking for me isn't just a necessity, but I think of as another craft.
      Thanks for bringing this tiny house. It's going in my top ten folder.

    That's the perfect layout! I love the fact that the bathroom isn't near the kitchen; the deck is over-sized and comfy so you live more outside than in, and the bedroom is not a loft. That's exactly how I would want to build my tiny house. Looks amazing!

    • @OcalaBrew
      @OcalaBrew Год назад +14

      I totally agree. This just became my number one choice of layouts! Brilliant design, an absolutely necessary end to end deck for outdoor living and entertaining, and that must- have kitchen are perfect for me. I also have a lot of counter top appliances because I am legally blind and they are a necessity for me. Just give me a decent sized garden shed to store out of season canning supplies and other things, and .it is my perfect home. I love the three outside doors and the tunnel house garden, which is also perfect for me!

    • @bf9436
      @bf9436 Год назад +15

      Agreed! Love the bedroom on the same level as the rest of the house AND you can easily make the bed! Those lofts where beds fit end to end, I have NO idea how they make the bed! LOL! Also love that kitchen! Although I would put a cooktop in a portion of the counter. Too much trouble to lug it out every time you need it.

    Bryce, I'm in the US and just moving into a foundation-built tiny for my retirement. I think there are a lot of us out there that don't want or need a bigger home. I love this couple and have chosen some similar things for my home - the one drawer dishwasher, the drawers underneath things. I have a one-car garage, a dog yard and a courtyard. My retired friends are very enthusiastic about this idea. Do more of these! And thanks for all your good work.

      i agree, we need more like these...retired people have their own requirements and tend to think of details younger people miss, like the elevated washing machine...and as someone working in mobile elderly care i know how many are struggling to maintain their old, multi-bedroom houses they raised their family in. going tiny would really be a blessing for them, yet many are hesitant - seeing good examples like this would surely help!

    Love this tiny house design! That would be my dream - to live in a tiny on my daughter's property. Unfortunately, my daughter's property isn't big enough! LOL But I can dream. ♥ Theses folks are living their best life. ♥♥

    The more I see of these single-story houses with one or more "pods" or other buildings, the more I feel that's the right move for my partner and I. Having the main space for eating/sleeping/bathroom, then separate buildings for workspace and offices, ideally connected by decks - yeah, that's the dream at the moment. I love that this channel is expanding into tiny houses like these - smaller "traditional" houses as well as multi-building tiny houses!

      I so agree 👍. I love the pods, I'd need one for me and a large shed for my husband! The greenhouse is great too, being able to grow some vegetables away from vermin is ideal.

    Love, love, love this tiny house. It has a wonderful layout. Perfect for seniors. As they leave this world, there's less for the kids to get rid of. I can see both sides of the coin. Now I hope Peter and Brenda enjoy the new adventures as they travel and finish up their bucket list. 😊❤👍

    What a lovely little house - it's great to see how tiny house living can be adapted for retirement, when we won't all feel like climbing ladders to go to bed. I loved the craft pod, although if those textile pieces on the walls are Brenda's, then I think she should be calling it her Studio, because they are true works of art.

    The light neutrals and white makes the house very appealing. I noticed the cabinet space for shoes outdoors. That's one thing I haven't figured out what to do with yet in my tiny. Glad to see screens on the windows (they look magnetic). Furniture fitting perfectly from your previous house is such a bonus! Bathroom not right next to the kitchen, extra side door, all those windows, the view
