    The Barbary Corsair has 4 things that is better than Privateers:
    1) You get it a lot earlier (Medieval Faires which is in most of my games around 30 turns earlier, and I’m no slouch on culture)
    2) It costs 0 movement to Coastal Raid which is a total menace in certain scenarios, you can complete decimate a coastline with no hopes of retaliation in a single turn.
    3) It is cheaper to produce (240 production vs 280 which is a 15% discount)
    4) It has cheaper maintenance (3 gold per turn vs 4).
    The most important of all these things is how early you get it. The Barbary Corsair can be a total menace against Civs that settle on the coast (and there’s a fair amount of them that do nowadays). You get it so early with the Ottomans that you often have it earlier or around the same time as Caravels.....and that’s a big deal. You should rethink your assessment of the unit.

    I’m also surprised you didn’t talk about how Ibrahim can literally let you counter Eleanor and Phoenicia. A big part of their strategies is to flip your cities by either forward settling you along the coast as Phoenicia or collecting a lot of Great Works and exerting loyalty pressure as Eleanor. The Ottomans are one of the only Civs that can completely nullify these strats without going to war by putting Ibrahim in their capital and nullfying all their loyalty pressure against you.
    In fact, the Ottomans are one of the few Civs are can forward settle without consequence because of Ibrahim as well. You can use him to nullify loyalty pressure and simultaneously speed up the reduction of grievances you will accumulate by doing the forward settling.
    You say Domination is all the Ottomans are good at but it seems like the Civ can play pretty passive-aggressive as well because of Ibrahim.

      Yeah Grand vizier is amazing ability for Ibrahim. On top of the things you mentioned, you can also kind of forward-conquer into enemy lands, negotiate peace and set Ibrahim to their capital, making your cities loyal.
      This ability is awesome in AI games, but human players, if they are not oblivious and actually consider this ability, won't let you have peace. In which case you have to bombard them to death the traditional way.

    Another weakness I’d say is governor titles are even more competitive with the buffs in GS. Going straight for Ibrahim means you’re not getting Pingala or Magnus.

      But on the other hand you are two hitting the enemy cities with Ibrahim and gaining more yields and resources this way^^

    Suleiman is so good! Suleiman is a top 3 domination civ easily. Ibrahim (especially Serasker) along with Great Turkish Bombard is insanity. You just melt cities, it’s so easy. The Janisarries are also really good. IMO Suleiman is the best domination civ in the game. He has a loyalty boost, he has an amenity boost, he has combat strength boost, he has 2 unique units one is amazing (janisarry) and one that is decent (Barbary Corsair). Some people like the Barbary Corsair but some people don’t, but it only helps Suleiman. His building is also really good and it’s good for domination as well.

    Nice video. This is only an idea, but in the future you could make a video (or two) where you rank how are all the old civs in diplomacy and if that afects their over all ranking. I feel like they are not going to change that much, but it would still be interesting to see.

    • @sineporfa9053

      I, too, would be curious about how you'd rate the civs for diplomacy victories. I think one video rating them all on diplomacy would make much more sense than redoing all the old videos, though the updated civs I think need a new video to discuss their ratings in their Gathering Storm incarnations. I mean, the British seem to have lost their museum ability.

    How to counter Ottomans:
    Grand Vizier: Spies can neutalize governors, Ibrahim is no exception
    (Catherine's France best counters this ability)
    Great Turkish Bombard: The main strength of this ability is buffing siege units. Light cavalry units can decimate them. His second bonus is a snowball effect. Don't let him capture cities. (Hungary's UUs, Mongolia's cav, and Scythia's light cav production best counter this ability.)
    Janissary: No niter? No Janissary. But if they do have niter try to kill of as many swordsmen they have so they cannot be upgraded. If they don't have any conquered cities hardbuiling them will be costly for them. Otherwise it would be best not to attack the Ottomans during the renaissance and use delay tactics should they attack you.
    Barbary Corsairs: It is actually very strong and unless you have siege on your coastline or a tech advantage you will have no control over the coast until the renaissance. Try to destroy their galleys so they cannot capture your coastal cities. (Indonesia's Jongs are the best counter to Barbary Corsairs as they are stronger when in formation and also arrive in the medieval era).
    Grand Bazaar: Pillage, Pillage, Pillage! Go for the luxuries, strategics, and this UB itself so it provides no benefit. (Norway is the
    best pillager, but light cav with pillaging promotion can get the job done)

      How I counter Ottoman:
      Shower them in riches and be their friend. Also send trade routes to their nation, and they will love you forever.
      Works every time. ;)

    Need to start factoring in diplomatic victories

    • @dracma127
      @dracma127 5 лет назад +2

      That'd be tricky. Diplo is all about getting as much favor as possible, and arguably without the use of alliances (as the favor generated is for both sides, it'd mean your allies can vote against your diplo victory).
      Outside of GS's explicit bonuses towards favor, your best way to determine your ability at diplo victory is either through envoys or raw culture. Grabbing suzerainships will get you extra favor, and more importantly, deny everyone else that favor. Raw culture plays into that with envoy civics, government tiers generate more favor as you go up, and future civic now generates extra favor.

    • @jasonsacchi

      Good call, Osu! There are five victories at once this time.

    • @SeaCow1g
      @SeaCow1g 5 лет назад

      Incorrect. The single best way to get Diplomatic Favor is just trading with the AI for it. The AI currently will trade up to 20 Diplomatic Favor per turn for a small amount of gold or some Strategic Resources that they haven’t hit their cap on. Any civ that has a bonus to Strategic Resource yields (like the Ottomans with their bank) can buy a lot of favor off the AI gradually every turn and get a huge lead over them. Buying is super efficient too becaus you gain favor and they lose some. Sure they gain some resources in the process but it greatly improves your victory chances. It also has the benefit of making the AI like you so sometimes they’ll vote for you. It’s super tedious and I hate that it works that way but I have tested it and it is indeed the easiest way to win Diplomatic Victory with most Civs.
