That road snaking through the continent between the cities is oddly satisfying. It's so nice to get those before traders start sailing around NOT creating roads where you want them.
I watch them both, but I tend to watch Ursa more because he focuses on just civ 6. I don't mind seeing other games occasionally, but I'm a poor gamer so I don't enjoy watching stuff I'll never play as much 🤷
@@UrsaRyan Dude, Janissaries were an ottoman unit, they were there far before and far after Suleiman. But Corsairs were effective and became a thing in Suleiman's time. Ship units should have always been Suleiman's bonus historically. So it's more relevant to give janissaries as an ottoman's bonus and remove ships. Otherwise, that's a bit of a cringe.
I settle that floodplains next to the coffee for sure. I really like being able to chop the tile you settled, and the extra culture early is huge. Agoge and Colonization are both very useful to unlock a few turns earlier. Also, border expansion is a function of city culture output, so by the time Im read the to to work the pigs I'd have them anyways.
£233 - Suleiman I, commonly known as Suleiman the Magnificent in the West, was the longest reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Not only did he preside over the apex of Ottoman Empire's economic, military and political power, but by taking control of the University of Sankore, he also oversaw the golden age of the Ottoman Empire in its artistic, literary and architectural development.
I feel like rambling on settling today, so skip on to the next comment and save your time haha. Im posting this before day 2 starts. Hard decision on where to settle. Settling on the rice a tile above is where Id go. Day two settle but you get: +1food in your city center, work a solid 2 + 2 tile and have many great tiles in the second ring, and get to stay costal. I think + one food is worth a day two settle. My rule of thumb is food and culture is worth like 1.5 standard yields until political philosophy at which point production on average becomes more and more worth it (especially once your cities are getting to 7 pop or so). For reference, I rate gold as .5 standard yields. So one food + one production day 2 vs + 3 gold day 1 or 2.5 yields vs 1.5 yields or a difference of 1 yield per turn. For math simplicity I say you get 20 yields for calculating settling cap on a different day so if you accept my math that the spot is + 1 yield after turn 20 that is a better spot (or at least in my head) and saved the hill + forest. Im not this robotic/calculative when playing, its just the numbers that landed surprisingly well that reflected my instinct and way I play. Second place (and arguably best) for me is the flood plain to the right since you get to work the 2+2 + 1 culture tile right away. A future city can worry about your navy and you save the hill and forest. By my math this should be just as good as the rice and you save a day right? Well you can still work the + 1 culture tile early settling the rice so it complicates it. It was not accounted for above because it is equally in ring 2 for settling in the two costal spots. So essentially once you work the 2+2 + 1 culture tile when settling rice, its back to being + 1 yield better, so IDK after about 30 turns rice spot would turns out better. But at that point you could argue being slightly behind could be what costs you something like a declaration of war which is not really accounted for, which makes this spot possibly better regardless of calculating tiles. And third is where you settled, I was thinking of settling there first. Settling day one is pretty important and being coastal obviously has its benefits while the spot is still more then good and has a more viable campus spot and more mausleum coast spots if the game ends up that way. Harbor games feel really nice with high pop, housing, and gold too. So for having tempo and galleys, this ends up being just as good as the other spots in my opinion. So a long winded answer of saying I think all three choices are valid spots knowing what we know on day 1. Especially because you are walking away from the better yeilds going to the rice, but I dont think that matters too much, since the quality is so good in general (and walking away is not much worse then removing a hill and woods to begin with).
8:57 It's been a little "bug bear" of mine that, for whatever unknown reason, lakes and coast look the same in Ursa's games, despite them having always looked distinctly different in mine (lakes being a deeper blue). It means that without the context of the size of the body of water there's no way to judge whether it's a lake of coast (not that that method is 100% reliable, I've seen big lakes and tiny seas), which in this case meant missing the fact that a lake had been revealed and therefore more land must be on the other side of it.
Settle in place was the right choice. The gold you'll get from the truffles will get you the coffee tile soon enough, you have a good tiles already in the deer and truffles tiles to work until you get the money you need. In exchange you get access to the coast with the reefs, and those rice tiles down the line. I will admit though, the early game culture is tempting though. But you start miles behind the AI anyway, so who cares if you get your government a bit later
You know I'm a big fan of Lady of the Reeds but I'm glad you went Goddess of the Hunt. Goddess of Festivals was an option as well I think with all that coffee, bananas, chocolate and tobacco nearby. I do wish LOTRAM was all floodplains and there's an argument for Oasis as well. It'd probably need a little nerf (+1production +1faith maybe) but it feels like it should apply to all those tile types.
I think the Egypt theming on it is very strong but yeah, it's a strange pantheon. I wonder if a floodplain based pantheon would generally just be pretty good!
The best thing about the ottomans in this game is if u get Sinbad and naval forces on a Mediterranean map facing off against Spain, Portugal, Engand, Netherlands and Scotland u might as well pack your bags for a gold win right there.😂
I would have crossed and settled on a rice for a 4 yield capital. There is one 2-2 tile in the first ring and I can grow towards/buy the coffee to make acquisition of later tiles smoother with the extra culture.
Sorry I was focused on the 4 food rice and the mention of the 4 yield made my mind jump to that. Guess my mind is a bit fried during finals week of medical school right now…
Hay Ursa, interesting start to this one. A thought, have you considered, alongside any other requirements for a run, implementing a 'no gold up front' rule. To see how it goes/or show that it's worse. I'm pretty on the fence myself as I do both fairly regularly 😅

hi! im new to this game, and i only have it as the main base game, with no dlcs, but, how do you do to have that many horses and other strategic resources? i only have like 1 or 2 but they have infinite "uses"
If you have two of a strategic resource you can build as many units of that type as you like. 1, and you can only build them in cities with an encampment. Come over to discord - we have a huge Civ 6 community that can help with questions like this = )
This is funny if I was a new player and you told me one of them was the original and another was a new add on persona I would say this one is the original
I don't understand why the devs didn't put the Janniesery to a new version of Suleiman. I know Suleiman executed Ibrahim after they get older so it's normal for Ibrahim not to be there but he didn't destroy the Janniesery soldiers.
I think settling on flood plain is too risky as you could have your capital's population wiped out at a critical point destroying your momentum completely
To b fair I am not a big fan of bonuses that just give flat +10-15% on one or more of the basic stats without any special requirement, like say how Lautaro of the Mapuche does. Reason is simply because the Deity AI players benefit disproportionately more from such bonuses making even more tedious to beat them. We all know how people hate Australia as a deity AI with the +100% production every time they get declared on. Or Korea Deity AI with their notoriously science game.
Why is it when I watch ursa I'll notice random little non optimal things that very lightly annoy me and yet when I play I'm total ass comparatively lol. Obviously I'm entirely more inefficient with way more moves. I'll just stick to my immortal level playing ass self and let the pro, pro

Honestly he'd be way better if it weren't for the fact he loses the janissary unique unit. Ibrahim is kinda trash as a governor anyways, the only good thing he has is the +20% production bonus to military units and the extra combat strength for units within 10 tiles, and 20% production and 10 combat strength on a single city isn't all that helpful. But the janissaries are such a good part of Suleiman's kit and let him get a domination victory as early as gunpowder was unlocked. Trading that for an inconsistent buff in science and culture on a civ that is supposed to be a domination powerhouse is kind of pointless.
