Travis: Nice, eclectic, diverse music taste with a wide array of influences.

@Jo Cam Rude
@Jo Cam go look in the mirror. Hahaha
@Jo Cam
Says the guy has Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi lauper on his playlist and subscribes to a guy who eats, smokes 10 pounds of weed a day (Joey diaz). Looks like your brain is fried bozo which makes all your comments laughable and invalid.
@Jo Cam
Exactly, thanks for proving my point regarding your brain.
Cattle Decapitation, huh? What a nice couple of young lads.
What the fuck are you talking about?
***** Yes.
They are actually some of the nicest people you will ever meet, same with the guys from Cannibal Corpse.
You're fucking funny.
Yeah! I had a meet and greet with George Fisher...oh, man he's a fucking sweet guy! He hugged me, took photos and said I was wearing a cool Black Sabbath shirt...man, I have never been that happy.
If kerry king played ''what's in my bag'', his bag would've been full of slayer records..
hahahahaha
Or just Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Venom. Maybe some Elton John too ;)
xD
you win
And for yngwie
Damn Travis has a diverse music taste
and this is good.
awesome when you heard different types of music.
MistaHahn117 and derek is like "what's that? No black metal? Throw that shit away!"
Almost every artist on Amoeba has diverse music taste
@@gerunkwon2598 almost
I love that it's very common for metal musicians, as metal is the most diverse music genre out there.
Derek's bag full of Black Metal stuff..cool
Berly Tannyono Putra Sabaton isnt hahha
No mayhem though :(
@@rorykellett9849 he probably already has all of the mayhem stuff
No surprise, he's in the band Scour. Check em out.
@@rorykellett9849 mayhem is kinda overrated
This is my personal opinion but I always think open minded metal heads always have the best music taste, all the music the guy on the left had is freaking awesome and the guy on the right had some good shit too!
MetalSoHard Well thank you! 8^)
I think punk musicians have the best taste .. watch Rollins "what's in my bag " he has awesome taste !!! Very diverse
I would agree but I wouldn’t call any of this “open minded”. Good choices but pretty much what I expected them to be listening to
agreed. I listen to everything from exodus to rancid to bob Dylan to moby to led zeppelin
@@HoodGoblin So, you expected one of them to like Turkish folk music, huh? 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
3:42 I love that the drummer in Tsjuder wears reasonable brown leather shoes. Goes so well with the spike sleeves and the corpse paint.
I saw them live in Tilburg last year but didn't see his feet - watched some Tsjuder videos later and saw he has good footwear taste
He's gotta go wait tables after the gig fool
xTheOxx I always through it was cause the shoes made double bass easier for him.
Old Neil Peart trick. Wearing dress shoes is great for drumming. Flat and firm feet on the pedals. My drummer swears by it!
This band is loaded with talent. Technical drums, guitar, bass, and Travis' vocals just top it off. Their latest album, The Anthropocene Extinction is a masterpiece, and a gem of this generations metal scene
yeaaa this fucking deathgrind band 666
Travis has such a wide vocal range, and his cleaner vocals kick ass
I have never really been into any extreme metal genres... but I have to say... holy shit are Cattle Decapitation's last two releases amazing. Great music truly transcends genres.
And the lyrics are also very poetic and neatly written. English isn't my first language but I read and hear a lot of texts and audios to gain vocabulary and Travis's lyrics have some BIG words in it and it's beautiful.
6 years later and the anthropocene extinction is still my favorite CattleDecap record. So.Fucking.Good.
Travis' "oh, for the love of..." face at 4:14 when Derek talks about the Sabaton album is fucking gold.
I like how at 0:17 Travis shows Derek an Author and Punisher record as Derek is wearing an Author and Punisher shirt and Travis is just so happy
Aw thanks! I didn't notice that 😁
Godspeed You! Black Emperor's albums are epic!
Fuck yeah
I love all of their albums!!!
F# A# Infinity is cool, I own that on CD.
Selda is an awesome musician and singer, great taste C.D.
i am turkish and i can't understand why this singer is very famous and appreciated in the world
@Umut dediklerinde haklısın küçümsemiyorum bence de çok başarılı ve baya severim sadece popülerliği şaşırtıcı
@@berkaya1303 hocam ben de anlam veremiyorum bu kadarına
I have so much respect for Travis Ryan and Josh Elmore for their environmental and animal welfare activism.
Of course that's his name
None of them are vegan tho - so its cool they give environmentalism and animal suffering a platform but they support the very thing they denounce
@@vegetable_shredder9306 Travis and Josh were vegan, they are now vegetarian. So they do practice what they preach
@@StEvEn420BrUlE "were" vegan. And vegetarians still support the dairy and egg industry which are almost destructive as they are cruel. :/
@@vegetable_shredder9306 ok, they still don't eat meat and Travis said vegetarian on tour.
I'm realizing how much black metal influence is present in Cattle Decap now, hearing what Derek listens to
Travis's face when Derek says theyre Travis's favorite band always gets me lmao
The guy with the hat isn't fucking around. Those are some brutal albums.
Derek engeman is his name if your wondering
The great thing about these What's in my bad? episodes is that they actually show like a clip of the album that they're talking about
Derek likes his black metal :)
Kyle Reaper As he should, one of the best metal genres
Stephen Kay one of the cringiest metal genres.
@@dudewithahat5329 People who like anime aren't in any position to talk trash about anyone except other anime pussies.
Saki The Edgy lmao you watch anime shut up
Kinda weak minnow. I like troller. Imagine being pulverized by Hitler's gay love Apollycon as smurfette skin for gargamel.
" I don't even really like Meshuggah" Wow, didn't expect that.
Kinda sad, being that Cattle and Meshuggah are the trail-blazers for modern metal. Like if Judas Priest didn't really like Motorhead.
I can't believe I read your comment just when Travis said that. Lol
Meshuggah are so boring
Yeah, it surprised me too, considering a good amount of the riffage in Cattle Decap. is kind of Meshuggah-esque. Check "Finish Them" or "One Day Closer" for good examples. But hey, it's just his opinion. He's still a cool dude. And an insane vocalist.
I can honestly see that tbh, Travis likes his diverse taste and Meshuggah would probably be too one dimensional for him. Too djently, too much chugs.
Cattle Decapitation are shit hot, Travis is one of the craziest vocalists in metal right now, some of the styles he pulls off are incredible. Great picks too.
Yeah I fucking love his Vocals, also is there any chance you know what to call the vocals at 02:20 in the song Manufactured Extinct? Cuz I want to know more lol ;-;
+Andreas Henriquez i call them raspy cleans
+Andreas Henriquez Gnarly cleans is what i call them
When it come to Ryan, He can scream, squeal, growl, belch, yell, and even singing towards the vocal chords for the more raw sound, yes.
+Andreas Henriquez It's tunnel throat highs.
Derek: "This is the only album that has ever made me angry"
*Travis looking on smiling at Derek like a proud father*
Metal bands have the best taste and the most interesting videos in this series.
Honestly... I'm astounded at what they pulled out. But all of it signals what I have always known and said... only true musicians at the top of their instruments can play extreme metal, and these guys are no exception. A true passion for music, and not just death metal or metal core or death core.
It always blows me away some of the music that such heavy artists listen too which in my opinion makes bands and singers so diverse
Wasn't expecting this video to exist...
Ok, Travis Ryan officially has *the* most peculiar music taste I have *ever* witnessed!
Diocletian is so fucking good.
I've never ever expected to see Selda Bağcan along with some black metal band LOL
You're guys amazing 😁🤘
Being a Turkish metalhead, I was shocked when Selda came out of the bag lol. I don't think any of my Turkish metalhead friends or even the indie types listen to Selda at all. I thought she was only popular at the European indie scene for some reason.
This is my favourite episode
I want a store like that nearby my home!!!
this store is what heaven would look like
Yes, in my country a fucking vinyl costs like 50$
I was insanely happy to see a death metal artist like Godspeed you! black emperor along with bands like dark funeral
Absolutely true about Cynic. I’ve been living under a rock evidently cuz I just heard them for the first time a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed. No clue they had been around so long and they’ve influenced so many artists today 🤘🏻
Digging the Caligula T-shirt
Both t-shirts are awesome to me. Got to see him perform live two years ago. Amazing show!
too bad they broke up, I saw Lakewood, OH, and I was like shit, that's near me. and then I realized they broke up and was like, shit....:(
Travis liking "That Dog" makes me so happy. They were so underrated in the 90s.
The guy with the long hair picked all the albums I grew up with in high school. Glad to see the kvlt is still alive.
Fuck yes. I love it when bands like this show that they listen to much much more than other bands like them. I fucking love almost all types of metal to some degree, but you gotta break it up and do other stuff. My music library is ridiculous. One day I'll be listening to Sigur Ros, the next day will be Beck, then maybe something like Chvrches, and then I'll throw on some Cattle Decapitation or Leviathan or Dillinger. Who knows. It keeps it interesting.
+mainHERO88 That's the actitude maan! Sigur Ros, Chvrches, Cattle, Leviathan or Dillinger, nice as fuck
Gracias!
I'm with ya on that mate. Love the metal, but also really enjoy keeping it diverse.
Agreed. Even though metal is far and away my favourite genre, most of my favourite artists don't play metal for the most part. Pendulum, Nine Inch Nails, Royal Blood, Aphex Twin, Queens of the Stone Age, Celldweller, The Prodigy etc. are all bands that I'd rate as my favourites. One of my all time favourite albums is Damnation by Opeth, by far their least metal album (although their metal stuff is tops as well). I have a huge love for ambient music like Robert Rich, Brian Eno and Atrium Carceri as well. As much as I love bands like Leviathan and Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse, I couldn't just listen to that all the time. I'm sure lots of people feel the same way. There are some days all I listen to is heavy stuff, other days I just need stuff to chill out to, but most of the time it's a mix. I'm not trying to be like "woo, look at me, my taste is diverse," but I think everyone would agree that it's usually hard to talk about other genres to metalheads.
On another note, I absolutely love metal influenced by jazz. Need more of that stuff.
***** I think the key is finding what "style" of black metal you like the most first. Some people like the first/second wave of black metal, the very aggressive stuff (Venom, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Bathory, Dark Funeral etc), others like the "depressive black metal" schtick (Thy Light, Leviathan, Shining, Xasthur, Weakling, Abyssic Hate etc.). There are a bunch of other types like atmospheric and progressive, but I suggest you try some of the bands I mentioned, they're a great starting point to getting deeper into black metal :)
it's weird that these guys are part of the band that made the song and music video for the song "forced gender reassignment"
Nope. Their whole thing is misanthropy and disgust for the human race. It's pretty clear that they hate people and they take it to the extreme in their music. Doesn't mean they're not decent people.
NecroSmokist I'm not saying they can't be decent people, tbh I hate most of humanity
+Nope. u hate me bro?
Phuck Googele I don't really know you so I can't really say I like you or hate you bro
4 years later and I hate you both
Bethlehem is one of the best metal bands of all time definitely one of the most underrated bands in extreme metal and one of the most influential bands ever.
Never heard of these guys, but this is always a good way to find new music!
The heavier the band, the nicer the guys in the band haha.
Seriously they both seem so laid back and chilled!
Diocletian is one of my favorite bands ever, I found out about them because of this vid, years ago. Long live Cattle Decapitation!
Me too but there new album sucks
The album "Gesundrian" is absolutely mind-blowing and should be given more recognition.
Selda seems to be popular with metal musicians....cattle decap,Chelsea Wolfe. I think I've seen her name in a few other interviews.
Funny thing is she is not really popular in Turkey. New generation probably does not even know her name.
@@salihgunay6915 Maalesef öyle.
Travis is def one of the Top 5 Metal Vocalists in the game.
Is it just me or Travis Ryan looks very similar to Ryan Gosling?
😐
Thank god!!! We need more metal
Travis looks like a morph between Tim Roth and Steve Carrell.
That is eerily accurate.
He looks like Ryan Goslings father.
More like Ted bundy and Ryan gosling.
MrStefan124 fucking spot on!
MrStefan124 holy shit he does
Legend has it, that Cattle Decapitation is on tour to this day.
The fact that Travis is wearing a Caligula shirt makes this video so much better
Travis has such a diverse taste in music.
I love seeing prominent metal bands whose members have an extensive taste of music outside of the metal world. Hell yea
And he wearing a "Author and Punisher" shirt. That's awesome
The fact Travis is wearing a Caligula shirt makes me love him even more.
Wow! I can't believe they were selling that Bornholm album in the US, and can't believe Derek actually choose it from all those records!
Great Hungarian band, I love them, have all their CDs! :)
Always happy when Cynic gets love
I love how chill Travis' choices are.
I'm actually super happy that Travis is a Cynic fan.
Me and my friends used to watch that Tsjuder live dvd a lot when I was in high school, lots of nostalgia.
FUCKING BETHLEHEM!!!! \m/ The first pick was such a good start for this video lol
Omar Lopez O yeah I saw the video on Bethlehem's official fb pretty cool to see that they're respected and still relevant :D
What's that song from Bethlehem?? Omar
Omar Lopez Seriously, that song is stuck in my head.
+Omar Lopez Waw... I actually play on this tribute album... twice ! The song you hear in the video is my band Ataraxie's cover of Aphel, die Schwarze Schlange. It's available through the label Ostra Records.
+Fred Patte-Brasseur the real mvp
I saw Dark Funeral open up for Opeth back in 2006. Great show, got just hammered during that show. Just saw Goatwhore recently and they were great. Still got to put my Goatwhore patch on my vest.
I could sit down with these dudes and talk music for hours, especially dude with the cap on he shares my taste in music just from the few selections he picked.
Who would boo Cynic? Thats crazy
That used to happen a lot back in the day, I heard the band Atheist mention the same thing. People didn't want melodic/progy death metal back then.
Cynic were ahead of their time, people didn't see the change as good. I say people, but I mean idiots.
The Outro song in this video is called "Your Disposal" of their album "Monolith of Inhumanity
Okay . . .
You just made my day. I'm not a Cattle Decap fan - Travis pulling out Cynic is one thing, but that Derek pulled out "Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects" was the BIG respect moment. Anyone who LOVES technical Metal that borders Avant-Garde and Jazz Fusion with extreme vocals . . . get ready for a ride (from 1997 kids). Amoeba is where I found the re-issue (2.0) and the original print . . .
BUY IT (it is here on RUclips to preview but purchase it where you can)!
Loving their diversity of purchases (and Travis's trivia). Really enjoying these episodes. Hope someone spots Mikael Akerfeldt, Steve Wilson, Mike Portnoy and anyone from Meshuggah ;).
Cynyc kick ass!!!!!!!! most under-rated metal band around!!!!
Derek is straight metal all day!
this video answered my prayers. i didn't know how much i needed this video, oh my god.
Travis seems like a cool guy. I'd chill with him
Tsjuder, Dark Funeral...nice pick ups.
CYNIC!!! LOVE CYNIC
I really wish i could sit down with these guys and just listen to music with them, they showed some stuff i wanna check out
Bethlehem!! Some of the best vocals in black metal!
Thanks to these awesome dudes that I found about Diocletian and Bornholm!
Was not expecting Sabaton. Fuck yeah.
Love this band, been listening to them for about 10 years now, as a fellow vegan i love the lyrics and themes, my views are very similar.
Never seen an interview before, they seem like good dudes.
EDIT, first thing was a Bethlehem record, fuckin yes i love Bethlehem.
The idea of NON/Boyd Rice as a babysitter is hilarious and terrifying. I would've loved to have been that kid.
Pretty fascinating to know that these guys have Throbbing Gristle and Boyd Rice as influences :)
Godspeed You Black Emperor
is a fantastic band
i am so fucking impressed that finally someone from these videos picked up lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven.
Good call on Bethlehem, one of the most underrated bands on the planet.
I'm a brand new cattle decap fan.... This video made me appreciate Travis just a little bit more.. again. What a guy... What a band!!
I thought Travis was taller. Even tho I saw them live once. lol
Cattle Decapitation: "I like my metal like I take my coffee - black"
Selda the great
Bende Türk yorumu arıyordum :
Shocking. A metal band having actual metal in their bag lol. Well done 👏
I discovered Diocletion with this video... so thank you, Derek! THANK YOU!!!
How can you not like Meshuggah
their varied taste in music is surprising
Travis is a fan of Selda Bağcan? Wow, kudos to him , good choice.
Yes!! Let the Beck flow through you...
Sabaton is one of the most fun live bands ever
Love the Author and Punisher t-shirt...
GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR! ALL HAIL!
I saw a Cattle Decapitation tribute act at a local pub last week. they were called Budgie Evisceration. Fine times.
In fact I'm contemplating forming my own metal band and calling it Goatrape.
For some reason I already assumed Travis was a Beck fan. I am too and seeing him confirm it was pretty cool. I think his diversity of musical influence has to add something to what he's doing and how he does it.
Just saw these guys live, they fucking kick ass.
Derek is wearing an Author and Punisher shirt. Funny thing is i just saw them both on the same bill back in december. cool shit
This Travis has presented me some really interesting artists. The guy transitates on misty terrains
Travis Ryan.. great music taste.
Coum Transmissions and Boyd Rice, iconic industrial bands, It's awesome when extreme metal bands hear power noise and experimental industrial.
