My 2006 Ford E350 kept burning coils also. So happy I came across this video my harness was also melted from the pipe. Taped up the wire harness and changed the coil and now it's all good to go!!!! Thanks for this video!!!

I want to thank you for your video. I have been totally stumped with my 2005 E250 (5.4). I have burned out 4 number one cylinder coils, and my van constantly shifts in and out of overdrive while it's going down the road. And I live in Texas, and the misfire shuts down the AC. It was 100 the other day when we were working out of the van. I examined my harness, and it had melted against the EGR tube, just like in your video.

I have a Mitsubishi Endeavor in my shop with the same problem.
I replaced the blown fuse the car started however it died with out driving it and the coil melted
    I will check the wires
    Great video!

My 2004 jeep wrangler 2.4L four cylinder engine is melting coil post #1 of my integrated coil pack so I replaced it with a new coil pack. Now that coil pack is also getting hot and melting the cylinder #1 connector of my coil. The problem I have with the 2.4L is that this engine has just one coil with a spark plug wire connector running to each spark plug from the 4 post ignition coil. There is only 3 wires coming from the ECM that plug into the 4 post ignition coil pack that runs the 4 cylinders of my engine. I cant find any short or injury to the wires or harness. I also get the P0351 code. Can anyone tell me why cylinder number 1?? I got folks locally telling me I need to spend $499 on a new ECM. If this short you have detailed in your video is the problem, will it always be cylinder # 1? I am at the point of unraveling my whole wiring harness or spending crazy money on a new ECM. Those 3 wires that control the coil go into a thick harness with other wires that is wrapped so it is hard to inspect every inch between my ECM and coil.Your solution of one of the wires going to your coil causing a short makes sense. I don't have a ground wire going to each coil on top of each spark plug like yours as my system is different. I have only one coil that runs 4 cylinders using the conventional high voltage spark plug wires with only three 12v wires coming from the ECM that controls the whole thing. I don't understand even how my 3 wires from the ecm to one coil can control the spark on 4 cylinders. So my symptoms are identical to what you describe, but my ignition system is so completely different than your coil-on-top-of-each-spark-plug system each with 3 wires from your ecm.

5:55 ''That's the ground that goes to the coil''
If that is the ground and it's grounding out there
shouldn't be a problem right, grd to grd, did you mean
that is the power wire to the coil and it was grounding
    out?

    • @gautorepair
      @gautorepair  Год назад

No. The pcm controls the ground. If the ground shorts to the frame then the pcm has no control and the coil stays on all the time, overheating, then melting.

@@gautorepair Got it, thanks, is this
a pulse kind of thing, where operating
normally, the 1 cylinder in this case
gets a timed pulse to fire?

      @@gautorepair If another van should
come in tomorrow (1 in a million lol)
burning out a coil pack constantly,
would you now be able to turn the
key on and find that that coil pack
has voltage to it when it shouldn't,
      then know to start following/inspecting
      the wire harnesses, and other
      paths that could ground that
      wire if the case be?

    Rear door measurements (anyone)?
What would be the widest and tallest box or
square/rectangular item that will fit into the van from
    the back?
