Thanks for the video - used it on an older Ford ZX2 with a coil pack ignition that ran like crap and was throwing a P0352. Found one of coil trigger wires had rubbed through and was contacting the bracket at the rear of the cylinder head. Appreciate all the help you offer up!

Thanks for another great diagnostic video. The P0353 code I experienced on my Mazda Tribute ended up being an issue with the Powertrain Control Module. At first I thought it was the #3 coil since I discovered it had a large crack in the plastic housing. I'm no expert and can only speculate, but I think the defective coli caused the PCM to fail. I found a company that rebuilds PCM's and their warranty is strictly void if you use any coils other than genuine Motorcraft. The defective coil on #3 was a cheap aftermarket part. I sent in my PCM for repairs and swapped out all six coils. Back on the road again!

had a p0354 on my 98 expy, didn't find this video until today, but i did fix it already, for me the solution ended up being cutting off the old connector, and crimping on a new one, once started it immediately ran significantly better, so for anyone out there also getting primary ignition coil circuit codes, just because the coil and spark plug are both fine, doesn't necessarily mean that your PCM has gone bad either, it very likely could just be the connector itself has worn out

FordTechMakuloco I have a 2014 F150 3.5 with 120K. I had a misfire on number 5. Replaced all the plugs with motorcraft and gapped to .030. Replaced coil on 5 and all the boots to the other coils. While I was there I cleaned all 3 MAP sensors. Ran great for a week and now it runs even worse than before. Has two codes; P2300 and P2303. I checked all the pins in the coils and in the harness and checked all coil wires for chaffing. All looked good. Do you have any ideas?

Nice video. I had the P0351 code pop up. I moved the #1 cylinder coil to the #2 cylinder and then I got the P0352 code. That's how you know if the coil is the actual problem. I would do that 1st since its less than 5 minutes and a really easy job.

This is Omar's friend... I do not think of this noise as a "knock" but as a light "tapping" sound, you can best hear it when the sound is reflected off of a wall with the window open. Is present ONLY when accelerating, if I take my foot off the gas pedal it stops. It increases and decreases with engine speed and is present when engine is hot or cold. Thank you for your help. Bob

in the Gm world i can say the newers cars are all testing circuits for you, there not perfect by any means but they do poiint you in the right direction! cept there usally generitc codes which will give u same diag if you didnt know it was open or whatever.
like a c0045 sym 00 or o6 open or shorted and signal erratic, you would think WSS is bad when most of the time you see thos codes togethor its the harness itself that has a broken wire inside the insulation

I've been getting p0354 code on my 08 focus se 220,000 miles with a very very rare random intermittent misfire that will only misfire sometimes for maybe 2 seconds or for 25 seconds, and then it goes back to running normal for 5 to 20 minutes until the next short musfire., . At first I found oil on the spark plug for cylinder 4 so I installed a new valve cover gasket. I also got all new spark plugs at that time. The issue continued so I got all new coils. The issue seemed fixed for about a week, but then came back. I did notice my fuel pump making noise so I got a new pump and will be installing this weekend but i wouldn't think the fuel pump would affect just one cylinder and only giving that one specific code that is directed towards and electrical problem. My question is, since it's rare for pcm's to fail, is it more likely that the wiring has an issue or the pcm. The misfire has been happening a lot more often lately slowly slowly misfiring more often. so I'm really trying to narrow this down. And my second question, IF a coil driver In the pcm were the culprit, could it be intermittent. Or would the coil driver just fail and stop pulsing. To be honest, it's the fact that it's so intermittent that is making this so difficult because the tests all come back normal unless I catch it at the exact moment of misfire.

    • @JohnDoe-lt9sg
      @JohnDoe-lt9sg 3 года назад

If it misfires at idle you can wiggle the wires all around and see if the engine runs better or worse and can narrow down problems in the harness like that. Overall you don't want to run a misfiring engine long, esp if it's blinking the CEL because unburned fuel is going down the exhaust onto your o2 sensors and cats.

I have a 2015 Fusion SE 2.5L ENGINE. I replaced all 4 coils, plugs, and injectors and still getting a periodic misfire in cylinder 3. I see you mention some of the newer model fusions sticking on. I have a Ford tech that started his own shop after the dealership he worked at for 20 years sold. Problem now is I cannnot get it to throw a code when it is misfiring and its periodic so getting it to actually misfire in front of him has been difficult. Visually inspecting the woires they all look good with no corrosion seen, but it could still be a wiring or other issue. This particular Fusion has been a lemon it has 50k miles on it now. At 22k miles it died and was towed in. Under warranty they had to replace the Head as they discovered 3 cracks from the forge. Its been 2 years since that repair and ran great until now. Checked the oil and there is no water found. All the plugs looked good when I replaced them saw no indication of water so I do not suspect anything from that repair. However I do remember them having an issue with an injector after the head was replaced, but they resolved it. I am now just waiting to get another engine code after he cleared everything so he can see if its consistant with same #3 cylinder. Thanks

Thank you for this video. I am confused with the error codes and was hoping you could clarify the issue.
I have a question about the P0303 error code. This code indicates a misfire at cylinder 3 but I found a website that states that a common mistake people make is that the P0303 code is referring to the third cylinder in the firing order, not cylinder number 3.
    The article states:
"P0303 is a cylinder specific misfire code, which means that Cylinder 3 is misfiring and causing the code. An important thing to understand when finding the location of cylinder 3 is that it's going to be the 3'rd cylinder in the firing order of the vehicle, and not the 3'rd cylinder that you might see when looking at the engine."
My 2006 Mercury Montego has a 3.0Liter v6 with a firing order of 1,4,2,5,3,6. The third cylinder in this firing order would be cylinder 2.
Do I have a misfire in cylinder 2 or 3? Can you please clarify what is meant by cylinder 3?
    Thank You

Had P0351 and after visual inspection realized cylinder number 1 coil connector was not fully connected. Reconnected it and have no change in idle. I assume im looking at a PCM replacement now? I think I am going to have a hard time explaining this to them and making them pay for it. Any suggestions?

Non misfire related PCM issues on fords are on the 99-03 Windstar with throwing intermittent abs codes. The master relay is in the PCM for the absy and from what I've seen is the circuit board will heat up and distort itself.you'd think they would have an ebcm or something on those lines.

He checked for constant power on the common side of the connector and put a noid light on and not getting a pulse. He checked for continuity from the coil connector to the pcm connector and said it was good. He thinks its a bad pcm. Is there anything else that should be checked before getting a new pcm? Thank you!!

So you say bad PCM's are rare, but based on your video, (you have proper voltage to coil, proper coil resistance, proper ground pulse signal and continuity on the PCM wire from the connector to the PCM) you have a bad PCM. Maybe not so rare?

I've read on forums and seen other videos where they say that if you have a problem like this it's better to replace all coils and repair/replace the pcm. Their thoughts were that the short in the coil would damage the pcm. Also if the pcm were bad it would in turn short out the other coils on start up. What's your thoughts on that?
Would it be a big deal to just replace one COP if that was the only problem? Could you swap COPs from one cylinder to another (say cyl 2 to cyl 4) in order to verify a bad COP (if all you had was a code reader and no DVOM)?

Would it be possible to take a metal plate with a bolt like terminal, then strap the coilpack to the metal plate and create a gap between the coilpack and the bolt. Then ground the body of the coilpack =bolt hole on coilpack to the plate.. Then run a 12 volt pos to the coil pack and then run a ground wire from the battery to the plate. Then run a switched ground wire from the battery to the coilpack neg side .... Then you could turn the ground on and off and see the coilpack fire.... Do you think this idea would work ?

I have a 2010 Ford fusion Hybrid and getting all coil codes, 351 351 353 and 354. I'm thinking it's likely pcm since they are all coming up. Is 2010 one of the years they were troubled?

I have around 40 hours into this same problem and have replaced and troubleshot 90% of the system. Did you ever get a fix for this issue with all coil codes on a hybrid? Replaced PCM, then oem coils and plugs. My car still starts, idles rough then shuts off automatically. Thanks.

Hi My 2006 Expedition is presenting that same code for all cylinders p0351 to p0358 before that she had a previous failure that did not go over 3 thousand rpm then it began to misfire to the point of not wanting to roll, so she got home and here she comes throwing smoke, and it didn't ignite anymore, when checking the only thing we saw was one of the detonation sensors cut off when correcting that it lit with all the coil codes p0351 to p0358 where do you recommend me to check I'm an enthusiast in mechanics but I know very little about automotive electronics

Hello, just recently replaced spark plugs on my 2011 f150 5.0. I installed ngk iridium plugs. Shortly after installing those I get a shake and a p0354 code comes on. I replaced the coil pack and that did not help. While I was doing the spark plug change I did break a connector and replaces the black portion that plugs into the coil pack. Do you k ow if the coyote motors are picky when it comes to spark plugs or do you think I messed something else up? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Kyle Harn if you installed a new coil on plug and spark plug and it doesn't fix your problem. Then either there's a broken wire or you need a pcm. If the plug came unplugged while the engine was running. Then install and new pcm. It's a big No No to unplug the 3 wire coils while the engine is running. You'll get a voltage spike that takes out the coil driver in the pcm.

New coil and connector on this thing and the code will intermittently set Customer says the van does in fact misfire sometimes but only for a few moments. I have tried to recreate this with several road tests and by moving the harness while in the bay. Never got it to misfire. Any advice on tracking it down in this situation?
