FordTechMakuloco are there any videos on PCV lines replacement on older 2 valve 5.4 motors? I’m having a tough time with that elbow hose at the base of the rear intake manifold, it’s an expedition so the firewall makes it extremely tough to get back there and release hose clamp to pull off? Do you guys pull throttle body off to gain more access? Thanks bud.

What if the LTFTs dont move? They stay at 1.00 percent and STFTs are at .63 and bank 1 sensor 1 doesnt fluctuate lile bank 2 senaor 1. Its giving me a P2195 code. I "cleaned" the pcv and check engine light comes on much quicker than before

What a shame there aren't more techs around who actually know as much as you do and are willing to spend the time it takes to analyze and find the fault.

Definitely check the foam on the air filter box. I have a 2005 expedition 5.4 that wasn't pulling any codes (at least not to the point of tripping the check engine light), but I was getting atrocious gas mileage, as well as a drastic issue with power at times. When I would floor it, I would get almost bursts of power between bogged down acceleration. I also had the obnoxious diesel sound once warm at idle. I found that issue, cleaned off all old foam, and replaced with new padding. It solved all my issues, including (somehow) quieting down the engine.

Perfect Video and Perfect Timing! Bruddah as always - You and Your Videos Rock !!
Got a couple important questions for you.
    1. How reliable are the "Re-man'd sensors"? And...
    2. What companies would you recommend if we can't buy from OEM?
    3. Which companies have you steered away from?
I have yet to hear any good things about Dorman electronics and of course their "exact fit parts" are already #1 on the Top 10 Don't Buy charts - unless you really, really have too. Even then -- "Buyer Beware".
The wife's 2007 toyota Camry has been giving us issues lately. Her XLT Camry was bought new in summer of 2007 and has been a trouble free car from day one. Now at over 100,000 miles it's asking for some normal and expected detailed, in-depth and attentive TLC. And she'll get it. Great Car.
Last week I was getting the same codes you spoke of in the video wrt the fuel trims and DTC's. Wife came home from work saying the "Check Engine is On". Using your past videos as a guide and my scan tool combined with my very limited skill sets - I was able to fix all of the issues by simply cleaning the MAF, the throttle plate and the K&N flat air filter.
Bruddah - I can say this - All is well in the islands. Happy Wife - Happy life and it's real time proof to the wife that (pounding my chest like Hercules) "Man needs to buy more tools!!" -- "Honey, buying that $400 scan tool just saved us a lot of money" and "this tool just paid for itself!" (cough - cough - ah - emm, honest it does ;))
Once Again Your Videos let me fix it right and saved us a boatload of money by not having to spend on things I didn't need to buy. Not to mention that I am able to better Interpret, Understand, and Utilize my scan tool. I was really worried that I'd have to buy a new MAF and/or TBS. That would of easily cost me over $500.
Toyota over here wants $198 for the MAF and a new Throttle Body (sensor included) is over $300. The TPS sensor isn't sold separately over here. I went to a friend who works at a Toyota dealership in the parts department and said the same thing "sorry bruddah - You have to buy the whole Throttle Body assembly".
They said it's because of the TPS and Body design. I Say - I smell a wolf in the hen house as I cough "Rip Off" out loud.
Any Howz -- Thanks Again Bruddah!!

@xcataclysmx I don't know if the man here himself knows or has ran into this... After days and days There is a very big difference in those spark plug numbers. I will say I discovered and I will also say that in the back of the intake where it meets the heads. We're leaking ever, so slightly. You could not notice a misfire, didn't really have any symptoms that you would think? Nothing like the brake cleaner trick. Nothing like that would work. Nothing made sense. Put a smoke machine on it. Nothing and then I got the idea well. Let's pressurize the smoke a little bit and then the smoke started rolling out of the back of the intake gaskets on both sides. It was slightly leaking and that was causing so many problems

I'm throwing a code p2195 on my 2006 f150 5.4 3v... about a month ago, I took it in to advantage ford in Fremont ohio and had them replace my cam phasers and oil pump. they said that I would need a catalytic converter on the driver side here sometime soon. would that cause the code? I cleaned the MAF sensor, air intake and throttle body. I will be looking into changing a couple of the hoses mentioned in this video.. the reason I'm asking is because all the research I've done, it's usually more than just a single code for the vacuum leaks. please let me know at your earliest convenience. thanks

On my 2006 F150 5.5 3v I'm getting P0174, P0059 and P2197. Truck runs great warm, but rough at cold idle. Foam trim on air cleaner tray was gone so I replaced it but didn't do anything to clear memory yet. I've used oil k&n air filter for past few years and see oily film on outside of MAF. All vacuum lines appear sound on initial inspection, but not tested. Previously had IWE fail so I plugged the vacuum line to it for a couple months, but no codes until 10 months after vacuum to IWE reconnected. Any thoughts on cause of these 3 codes? Thanks!

    @bobjohnson8206 5 лет назад +1

Your videos are really outstanding. i never paid any attention to the bottom of the air filter as you described in your video so I inspected mine. Guess what mine was all falling apart as you have shown in the video so I order the tray seal. Upon receiving the seal the exact measurement of the seal width is 1 1/4 inches and the old foam was 1 inch so it had to be trimmed off to the exact width as needed. However the seal really sticks onto the housing just wanted to give a heads up so others will know what to expect. Although I don't have any error codes yet just trying to eliminate them before they occur. I am a firm believer of preventive maintenance. Can you tell us what the part numbers for the two hoses you described in your video in reference to the vapor feed hose and the brake booster hose to the bottom of the intake. I would like to replace both of them now before I have a problem. Many thanks, IMHO your the best videos out there.

Hey this has nothing to do with a LEAN code but i really need help on something for my 98 Ford EX. Getting the flashing OD light every now and then. Code reader saying Range sensor #3 shorted or low voltage. I checked with live data and all the range sensors say CLOSED except for #3 which says 0V. I thought the range sensor was all one piece. Any ideas?

The 2V engines also tend to show bank 2 lean first. I’m thinking it’s the intake manifold runner design. The way the air moves through the manifold.

Do you have a video on rich codes on both banks?? 07 navigator L is throwing a 1719 and stayin in first gear at times when cel is on, goes away after being cleared. changed the fuel pump, injectors, maf sensor, 02 sensors, coils, evap canister, ecu update, and cam position sensor (code came up once), no fuel pressure regulator on rail to change, starting to think its the throttle body?...truck is driving me loco...
p.s - when the truck has cleared codes its runs and drives flawlessly...big fan of your videos, any help would be great!

How about information about the PCV valves on these engines, kind of a different setup than the 2 valves. I have a 4.6 3 valve and apparently the PCV valve is part of the valve cover and can only be replaced by replacing the cover on the 3valve engines. Are they built like regular PCV valves, servicable etc. I have a small vacuum leak(I think) at idle that is pushing up long term fuel trims and wonder if the PCV valve in my 3 valve could be the culprit. Any way to test them, and how do they tend to fail? Thanks.

05 f150 5.4 hard starting hot. I replaced the temp sensor under the intake and the tje temp sensor in the upper oil pan. Did not make a difference. Any ideas?

  • @woog74

I notice in the freeze frame data, the RPM was at about 1260 (ish) but MPH was 0, engine temp was 194F. I notice the truck did not have a high idle concern, and the RPMs were not high when doing the initial scan. My first thought was that the lean code was set after a harsh stop...only that is when an engine would be rich. I'm just curious, am I missing something here?

Okay so I was replacing driver side valve cover on a 2010 f150 5.4 had a bad pcv valve at least I think ..booster line in way of valve cover coming out, pulled it away heard a quick vacuum noise lasted about a few seconds .. when I was done completing the valve cover install fired up the truck and got a red brake check light.. felt pedal engaging brakes as I reversed put it in Park it stumbled and died ..it threw a check engine light that was for p2195 only ..reached my hand around back side of intake just like you said it had popped off when I was moving it out the way ..pushed back on problem solved thanks ford tech save my ass again..

Hey guys, quick question this pertains to the 3.5 duratec v6 so obviously a different engine but this guy knows his stuff so I'd thought I'd ask,so I've heard the 3.5 can be prone to water pump failure ,and this can/will destroy the engine if this issue is severe enough my question is was this issue resolved?Have a 17 explorer duratec was hoping to keep it for a very long time, and I heard they reworked some mechanical components with the 16 refresh so was wondering if that issue was one of them.

I also have the 5.4L 3v and I checked my seal on my air filter door, after watching this video, and my seal is completely gone. What do you recommend to fix the door seal? I imagine they don't sell that seal at the auto parts store. Do we make one? If so, what material is best to use for the new seal? What thickness? Do you think this vortex could cause severe lean condition and rough idle and driveability issues?

Do the Newer MAF update the Baro the same way the Old one's Did ? You had to operate at WOT a few times before Baro would update. If I remember Correctly PCM only Looked at Baro at Start Up and a WOT event. If no WOT-- PCM operated at Baro reading for entire time engine was running. Baro was Altitude Compension Input to PCM. Is that still True ?

My mom's 1997 Fore Crown Vic showed lean codes P0171 and P0174. I cleaned the mass airflow sensor and the air intake but still got the codes. The problem was that the hose connecting to the PVC valve was loose. I tightened the connection and the codes went away.

Hello I have an 2004 f150 with the 5.4 and have p0171 and p0174. I have smoke checked and found no leaks. Maf reading at idle is 3.9 grams. Short term fuel stays around 0. Long term is 20-30 on both banks. Checked fuel pressure on scanner at idle have 40psi. But on Manuel gage is around 29 to 30 psi. What would be my next step. Thank you

Would have been cool to see the test drive with the new MAF sensor. That way we could see the fuel trims at higher RPM's. Great video regardless. Very informative and helpful. Checked my filter door seal and it was completely gone. Giant gap for air to enter housing. Seams like the filter seal would stop that from vortexing the MAF sensor area, but I trust your expertise over mine. I think I will try duck tape first, if that works I'll be looking for that air filter door seal. If you know where to get one, let me know. The vortex in the air filter housing was good info. Are there other seals on that housing I should check? Can't tell unless I take it all apart. Didn't want to fix what isn't broken, even though I do that sometimes anyways. Great info, thanks for the tip lesson.
