Stock C8 Corvette Exhaust or Aftermarket Exhaust???
We are back at Corvette World in Carrollton, Texas for another installation by Keith. Back in 2018 Keith installed an aftermarket exhaust on my C7 Grand Sport. Today we are installing an AWE Touring exhaust for my C8 Corvette.
I really love the black tips that are available with the C8 but even with the performance exhaust it just wasn't enough to keep my from wanting a change. The difference isn't massive but it's just enough to make it perfect.

That’s awesome. I was leaning toward the track but ended up with touring. It was a tough choice. A friend had the track and it was awesome! Loud and mean!

Great upload my AY brother. Looks and sounds great. Exhaust and maybe cats is one the of the few mods I would do later, but worried about some of the high flow cats and some saying they can melt and nuke an engine.. who knows..lol

Was your stock exhaust a performance exhaust from GM? Mine sounds OK when I leave it on My mode which is track exhaust sound. When I have the so-called performance exhaust dialed for that
It was and yes, I would ONLY drive in Z mode. This is still a little better without using Z mode.

Actually, there’s no difference since it doesn’t have the NPP. THE baffles are wide open all the time. I didn’t think about that when I mentioned Z mode in the video.

You can fit all the entire exhaust in your car so it’s definitely possible.
I have the AWE exhaust on my Silverado ZR2 and absolutely love it. My first car was a 71 Chevelle with an L48 350 that I put headers and glass packs on, and I've always had a good exhaust on my trucks so I had to do something on the very quiet ZR2. Even though it was a little louder than what I was expecting on my truck, I have grown to really love the sound and think it would all the more so sound amazing on my C8, too. Definitely helps to have a lift and the proper tools to do the job. I also noticed you removed the AWE logo on the back heat shield; (or unless they stopped putting it there?) I would definitely want to remove that like you did, as well.

The C8 definitely needs some pep in the exhaust sound. You’d love it like on your ZR2.
We actually removed the AWE. It’s nothing against them, it’s on the tips. Plus we’re happy to be part of the AWE family but it just didn’t look good inside like that. We make sure EVERYONE knows it’s AWEsome. 😁

Love your spec. and content. We all know sound and aesthetics are subjective. With that being said, I used to be big into these aftermarket systems, but I am sticking with the stock Tenneco system. I was listening to a Borla ATAK and it sounded like a UPS truck with an an exhaust leak.

As far as this silver in the back of the mufflers, I think a good old can of heat, black spray paint, would work just as good for $5. Instead of tape. That's probably gonna eventually come off. This is my opinion only.
It’s possible. I guess we’ll only know in time. If it does, I’ll go the paint route. 😃
The shields from Paragon isn’t a “sticker.” It’s a highly malleable, lightweight, heat resistant material . It’s not a civic. Bypass the paint and spend the 30 bones. 😂
So Jason you're a few weeks into your new AWE Exhaust. do you still think you made the right choice on your exhaust? I'm leaning towards AWE and want to have an instal done while i'm in Carlisle. I know Justin was a big fan as well... Well that was before he started dealing with Paragon lol...
I do. It’s louder than the quiet GM exhaust but I can still hear if I’m on the phone when I’m driving. Honestly though, if the track exhaust had NPP, I’d have gone track.
Hey Jason, another great one. You, Steve, and Justin have me sold on AWE track exhaust. If I keep my Stingray it will be the one I go with. BTW my car was built on 6/12 and I’m taking delivery at the museum on 6/27!

Will the Mild to Wild Modification work on the C8?
Will the Mild to Wild Modification Void Any C8 Warranty?
I’ve seen information about the M2W for the C8 on the Corvette Forum, but the talk is, it doesn’t work. Something about a 3 prong plug for the fuse box and other functions are tied into the #20 & #21 locations. (I had M2W on my 2009 C6 and it worked great.)
AWE definitely looks like a great move! I’m probably not going to make a purchase until I see if I get an ERAY Allocation! Have to save the money for the Car and Options.
Although Carlisle would probably be the place to get it because I hear you get a free install, but I’d want to keep the stock parts and getting them home would be an issue.

I got my ticket for Carlisle in late February.

@@FrontSeatDriver 6/16/2023 AM. I sent a text to my salesperson saying I was still interested in both the ERAY & ZO6. I asked to be informed about the ERAY Pricing once the dealership gets any information. I’m #1 on their List for the ERAY and now #3 at the dealership for a ZO6 as one lucky customer ahead of me recently got a TPW of 6/26.
Probably the Allocation for the ERAY will come before the ZO6 as this dealership is very small in terms of the number of allocations they receive, especially for the ZO6. They sold only 8 C8s for the 2022 model year and one of those was mine. I’m lucky to have inquired February of 2022 when I took delivery of my C8, because I was the first person to ask about the ERAY at their dealership. Also at that time, I asked about placing a deposit.
But because little ERAY information was really available, they didn’t request a deposit.
I’m looking forward to hearing about the ERAY, but my luck will be the allocation for the ZO6 will probably come through while I’m waiting for my ERAY to go into Production. It will then be decision time. A lot will also depend on how I feel!
I’ll still be fighting P.C. ♋️ and a lot depends on how’s the Chemo going. Sometimes I’m feeling so weak; the Meds I’m taking make me feel ill, I can’t enjoy the C8 Stingray. But, the wife (Who’s actually not really much of a car person) has been a cheerleader. She’s behind whatever I want to get.
I retired in 2010 at age 55 after 33 years as a LEO. I knew I had a Cyst on my Pancreas back in 2007, but didn’t know what was going to “medically hit me”/being Diagnosed in 2018.
The wife is 4 years younger and plans to keep working at least until her retirement; which some days might be tomorrow or could be years away….. It all depends on how she feels. She can walk away when she wants to.
So this next Vehicle, if it turns out to be a C8, will be a color she wants: Riptide Blue, “Red” (but not Red Mist since the 2022 C8 is Red Mist), or anything other than: Yellow, Orange, Black, Brown, White, or Green….. YES NO CACTI LOL….. What does that leave? Blue or Red I think? Riptide I believe has the “Top Choice Award”/Is In The Lead at this point! (I’m good with that or I’m for: Torch Red, Another Red Mist or Black with any Paint Correction & PPF ASAP Upon Delivery.)
Yeah, I’m getting ready to order my car and I noticed General Motors offers some off market exhaust systems right from the factory. Would you recommend doing that?

It drones just a bit when it drops into 4 cyl mode but not terrible. I haven’t noticed any drone on the freeway.

I don’t like the Borla at all. Paragon has a good one though.
Which paint did you use? Also, thought there was no drone with tour exhaust?
I believe it was just some high temp paint. Not sure which brand he uses.
I think there’s a little. In V4 mode. It’s not anything major though. I pretty much always drive in Z mode though so it doesn’t drop down into 4 cyl.

I personally wouldn’t waste the money on the performance exhaust although I believe it’s standard on the Z51. I would definitely look to do aftermarket. This had the performance exhaust but I switched to the AWE.
Do you recall what the installation fee was for the exhaust system replacement?
I’m not certain but I think it was $500.00-600.00. Somewhere in that range.
So did the old one fit in the trunk for the return trip.
It did not. But I left mine there for another C8 that had it installed on his car. I sold it for $150. I could have gotten a lot more but it was going to a nice guy.

I do have the Z51 and no check engine light. AWE guarantees no CEL.

I love that Yellow color. Looks sick as a convertible.. I don't think I'd want a coupe. I don't care about seeing the engine, it doesn't look like anything special anyhow. I have a Velocity yellow C7 Z51 M7 right now.. Looking into getting a white pearl metallic 70th. I'm worried I'm going to miss the manual too much.
Yeah. You may. I have a C7 Z06 M7 and it’s so different from the C8. The C8 drives itself. Doesn’t have the awesome sound you get with rev match but it’s still a good car. Quick, not fast.
That's what I'm worried about.. Its too civilized. The C6 was even more fun to drive than the C7, but I fixed that with a Throttle body and throttle controller. I need to drive a C8 before I consider dropping 100k on a C8. The AWE sounds really good. Great vid.. :)@@FrontSeatDriver

I do appreciate him putting his foot under it to make sure it doesn’t touch the ground, but I’ll never understand these techs not just using moving blankets and other tools to prevent damage. I just don’t get it. Watching this guy use his foot and then trying to single-handedly put the piece on the horses would give me a heart attack.
Also great idea with spraying inside the tips to make it black, but ideally this would be done BEFORE install and away from the rest of the vehicle.
Yeah. Luckily it didn’t turn out to be an issue. I should have done it myself prior to bringing it up there.

No. It was actually mud from the road. My car was pretty darn clean when I left but right around the corner from Corvette World and all along the service road is construction and some stupid company floods out the area with their sprinklers and boom. Filth all over my car!! It’s all washed now though.
