Lyrics:
I hear the sound of your guitar
Comin’ in from the mystic far
The stone and the gravel in your voice
Come in my dreams and I rejoice
It’s just your ghost
Moving through the night
Your spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
Your love and I’m alive
I’m alive and I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m coming’ home
Yeah I’m comin’ home
The old buckskin jacket you always wore
Hangs on the back of my bedroom door
The boots and the spurs you used to ride
Click down the hall but never arrive
It’s just your ghost
Moving through the night
Your spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
Your love and I’m alive
I’m alive, I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m coming’ home
Your old Fender Twin from Johnny’s Music downtown
Still set on 10 to burn this house down
Count the band in then kick into overdrive
By the end of the set we leave no one alive
Ghosts runnin’ through the night
Our spirits filled with light
I need
Need you by my side
Your love and I’m alive
I shoulder your Les Paul and finger the fretboard
I make my vows to those who’ve come before
I turn up the volume, let the spirits be my guide
Meet you brother and sister on the other side
I’m alive
I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m comin’ home
Yeah I’m comin’ home

There are only two types of people: those who love Bruce and those who don’t know him yet.
Give it time.... this younger generation and TikTok will have him as a new singer shortly.
I'm the later, but learning now.....thanks x
I knew him well. I was a roadie back in 77 and 78. He stiffed me out of money. He's a cheap bastard and not very well liked.
And there are a lot of people who are so obsessed with him, that IMNSHO they should see a shrink.
No there's a lot of douches who judge him without listening to him. Thanks to politics lol everyone gets triggered
Imagine it played live - that day will come, and tramps, we will all be ALIVE again
faith will be rewarded
And we will be running... Like the tramps we are.
Big love to all from Spain.
Be careful 💘
Oh yes, can't wait

That day cannot come soon enough for me 🎸🎹🎸🎹
Seeing him live for the first time this coming Wednesday. I'm 64.
You’re a legend brother 👍🙌
Darren , I saw them live last Friday , I’m 66 ! My first time seeing the Boss ! 9/13/24 ! I’m glad I got to do it when I did , I don’t know if I could do it again . Take care fellow rocker !
This has to be the opener for the next tour. Absolutely has to. Imagine 50,000 people screaming "I'm alive!" together after we make it through this shitstorm.
Truth!
Woooow... That would be fucking AWESOME!!!
So. Much. Truth.
I bet you are right
Fits perfectly
I was thinking the same thing!
In 1975 it was said he was the future of rock n roll, he was embarrassed ran all over london pulling down the posters. Well put those posters back up. 2020 a year so strange ,people isolating countries ruled by reality stars and a 71 year old man writes a tune that sounds like this truly this is the future of rock n roll .
So true
Cheap shot
Wrong! It was said... He is Rock and Rolls future! There is a difference. Written by Jon Landau, his 'now' Manager.
The Boss has got to be one of the greatest musicians off all time. He has been staying relevant and making new music continually since the 1970's. Who else has done that?
It was 1974 at Harvard Square in Cambridge, Ma "I saw Rock and Rolls future and it's name is Bruce Springsteen"Jon Landau. He was angry in London because he did'nt like it that posters said"Finally london is ready for Bruce Springsteen". There was enormous pressure put on Bruce while he was making Born to Run, he had to have a hit record to show the record company that he was a successful musician. He was!!🎶🎸🎶
This feels like Bruce wrote a tribute to himself, the E Street Band and his fans. Absolutely stunning 💞
I feel to all we've lost.
Death is not the end..
He wrote about loss. I connect it to all that I have lost and it's a joyous it is
A while back someone asked me what with all the terrible shit going on how you can be even remotely happy and I said well, Springsteen has a new album coming out so there’s reason for optimism. True then, true now.
Absolutely !

This comment will fade to the back of the pack but Danny Federici was my uncle. Losing him so many years ago was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through but I always know I can throw on an e street record and he is back in my home again. Tours just arent the same without seeing him up there. I really appreciate the times that Bruce brings him back to us too, like in this video. Thank you Boss
Sorry for your loss, OfficiallyGracie. Glad there's a part of him still ringing out for you.
Not lost, no Gracie. Not in this crowd. I'm so sorry.
Phantom Dan the man!
of course your pain is difficult to cope with, but I just want to say that us fans miss him too
dan will never fade gracie, i live in uk,went to the infamous concert at madison sq gardens when they sang "41 shots" got it on double cd, "land of hope and dreams"
For anybody who has lost someone........it is the hardest heartache you will ever know. Thanks Bruce for making it little more bearable. This song nails it!
Fucking A!!!!
I literally could not love this man more than I do. My son said, "Mom, I'm worried about what will happen to you if something happens to Bruce Springsteen." Lol! Legit concern. Happy late bday, Bruce!!
Day he goes something in all of us will die too
Ditto....,we can't ever think of that!!!!
I call him my music dad. ♡
Let’s not get morbid!
@@snoutyman , oh no, I don't want to think about it at all so to me, 'something happens' means just not playing any more music. :) Anything else is unthinkable.
This song is great, one of the greatest of the last decades. Bruce will never get old, he is the young side of our lives, I look forward to see him again on the road... I have his face tattooed on my leg, his music always in my brain and his soul in my heart.
I have lyrics of 4 Bruce songs on my skin. I have a portrait of his iconic fender, and a portrait of him!
@@krystalsalazar3148 I've got a few lyrics from various songs I planned to get inked...until the pandemic shut down our studios. Soon, soon...
@Marylou Cooling maybe, but in one day of his life has given more beauty to the world than you in entire life
@Marylou Cooling he's 71 and works out every day. If that's the "brink of death" then I don't know what isn't.
This song is going to be legendary live, when we can scream I'M ALIIIIIVE in a packed concert.
I agree. Bruce performs for no less than 3 hours (in my experience at a concert of his in Milwaukee WI long ago) and I hope I'm alive to him him "alive" again.
When and if Springsteen goes on tour I'm going to be there no matter where or the cost even if have to sale my house. My bucket list just contains one thing to see Bruce one last time..
hello... will he ever be on stage again?
I'm not sure...

an acoustic session maybe?
well... let's wait and see.
Tickets are already being scooped up, at least in Europe. The lottery begins here July 17. Bruce is back.

I totally didn't expect this song to hit me with so much emotion, but isn't that just what Bruce Springsteen does to us? Brings us with him on his life journey, and ties it to our own. The world's greatest band!
Exactly! I thought, 'Oh,another Bruce contemplative song'. But it's got the power of rock, the magic of music all these years since my life: 50's to now. Thank you BRUCE. I'll never forget how this one startled me.............to joy......and tears.
Great point - he has shared his journey with us - we are along for the ride. A national treasure.
Amen Broth ❤❤
Oh my gosh, tears indeed! Memory of all the happiness brought by his music and the role it has had in my life. Such a powerful connect from Bruce to all who love him and the E Street band!!
@@pegstewart791 it's a combination of the lyrics and the memories coming back upon seeing the concert shots. I got to shake his hand at my last one! It takes a leap of faith but we need to have a reason to believe we'll all be seeing him live again, pumping our fists in unison yelling "I'm Alive!"
I'm 31 and I'm hearing the E-Street Band for my whole life. And he saved my life more than once. This band will be my all time favorite 4-ever... till the day I die. THANK YOU, BRUUUCE and greetings from Germany to you all! 💪😎💚💎
it mazes me how much his music touches my heart and soul. So many times ive listened to huis songs and felt like they were written directly for me and how each time i find a different meaning to his songs. simply amazing. I think he has gotten so many people through good times and bad times. He has the ability to reach into everyone personally.
32 year old here 🙋🏽♀️and I feel your comment in my blood!
I'm 66 and been listening to him since 1973. He's helped me get through some really hard times. Will always be my favorite.
Here as well! 31 years old and still proud to have grown with him! :)
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Bruce Springsteen is The Boss.
Indeed!
Good thing there were the lyrics, if you say u can understand more than 10 words he said in this song without them you’re lying
Couldnt agree more. This guy and this band are just absolutely amazing
Always and always❤
Nicht umsonst ist er der Boss🤗😝
Can you do this every week, Bruce?
expect it until the album comes out. He released tracks from Wrecking Ball daily back in 2012.
“'Ghosts' is about the beauty and joy of being in a band, and the pain of losing one another to illness and time. 'Ghosts' tries to speak to the spirit of the music itself, something none of us owns but can only discover and share together. In the E Street Band, it resides in our collective soul, powered by the heart." - Bruce
What a wonderful song!!!!!! It rocks!👍
I think this song is Bruce way of trying to come to terms with that he is the last surviving member of The Castiles.
Jan Rindahl The text above are Bruce's own words. So it's even possible that it is about The Castiles too...

I got lost in this song I danced I forgot about this goddamn COVID this goddamn politics I fucking danced! Thank you !!!!
I have tears in my eyes Bruce. As you said this song is about the "pain of losing one another to illness and time". My dog, Black, died a week and a half ago on the 14th of September. We were inseparable companions, like Calvin and Hobbes. Her death has been a huge blow for me and I still haven't fully accepted the reality that she is gone. I still think that whenever I go back home she will still be there to greet me like she always did.
The day she was cremated I had a dream about her. I was going up some wooden stairs and I see a dog that looked just like her. We both stare at each other for a moment, trying to figure out if we were really who we thought we were, like two friends who stumble upon each other after a lifetime. As soon as we realise who we were, we rushed to meet. She was overflowed with joy, not being able to stay still for a moment, always running around me and jumping. And I? I was whole once again.
Bruce, you do what ALL great poets do, you are able to put into words feelings that we all share but that some of us cannot express. What I felt during my dream was exactly how you described it in this song:
Come in my dreams and I rejoice
It's your ghost
Moving through the night
Spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
Your love and I'm
Alive
She will always be my spirit filled with light. Thank you, Bruce!
actuallytom That’s sad. But give yourself enough time, and eventually you’ll allow a new puppy or rescue dog into your life who you can give a good home to.
I’m so sorry for your loss, I’m glad Bruce’s new song can give you some comfort ❤️ I lost my golden retriever in 2014 and I still miss her everyday. Bruce’s music helped me heal too. If there is a heaven or a rainbow bridge I’m sure my Sandie will be looking out for your beloved Black ❤️
Sorry for you loss. Been there and done that. It's a sad fact our doggies just don't live long enough. All we can do is remember the great times we had together. Give it some time, then find you a new puppy dog and do it all over again. Peace.
So sorry for your loss. Maybe time ...and music....will help 'actually tom'? We music men and ladies are with you, bro'.

as surprising as it may seem, western stars was less than 2 years ago

What a beautiful, moving song. Yes, it's about Danny, Clarence and all the other people associated with the E Street Band who are no longer with us, but it's also a meditation on the fact that Bruce is the only remaining living member of his teenage band, The Castiles, and it's particularly in tribute to lead singer George Theiss, who died relatively recently, and who Bruce visited in his final days. "Ghosts" is one of Bruce's finest songs, and a fitting monument to those who have departed.
Yes, and he punctuates it again with the track "Last Man Standing" on the same album.

I love this song. What seems to me odd about the video is that it has so little of Clarence Clemons in it. He was such an integral and beloved member of the E Street Band, there’s got to be thousands of hours of concert video to pull from, why so little of him?
- For millions of people around the world his masterpiece is the soundtrack to their lives. For decades.
- For millions of people his music has been vital in their everyday lives.
- For millions of people he still gives faith in humanity.
- For millions of people he gives a positive image of the USA in the world (for the rest of world).

standing in line is about as nostalgic as this song. do people do that anymore?
Last time was for Tom Joad in Toronto. I was working so my daughter did it, January 1996. Last time either of us stood in line. What a performance, what amazing seats and Bruce blew us a kiss. Many concerts since but all online tickets. Happy days
@@galaxyroblox5757 I did when I saw him on Broadway, I will when I see him with the E street band next.
Spent many nights in line for Bruce tickets in my youth. Sometimes they were sold out before we got to the ticket window. But still worth the effort!
Last time I did that was the 2000 reunion tour. Waiting for the ticket drop, now THAT's the newer best way to go. I haven't bought tix on the day of the sale in about 15 years and NEVER miss a Boss show. Waiting in line....now those were truly the Glory Days!!
The song is young, but the hands and the mind that made it are as old as music itself. There is joy here and there is pathos. It's real, like everything Bruce has brought into being and put out to the world.
“The older you get, the more it means.” B.S
Thank you Bruce, not only is this a great song, but you have hit on a topic that not many have tried to put into words. That feeling that the ones we loved, never stop their influence and inspiration. That feeling of them always around us. That knowing we are better because of their spirit still living through us.
I am 56 years old, and can count on one hand the songs that moved me so immediately from the first listen. This song is running through and sending shivers through my veins.
The timing of its message of hope and feeling alive while honoring those hard lost members of our closest circles.

Once again your story brings me to tears.
Love and peace to you.
Wow! This is from the heart! This is such a moving way to honor the people that you cherish and love who have gone before us, but their spirits keep helping us live.As from a song in "Wicked"....So much of me is made of what I learned from you, you'll be with me like a handprint on my heart and now whatever way our stories end I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.....And because I knew you,I have been changed for good. Thanks for the reminder that we always have support out there!

Sometimes Bruce Springsteen captures the zeitgeist of who we are. Ghosts, which sounds like the best rock and roll song you never heard, is one of those moments. Amid the fast and almost joyous anthem of being alive is the pain of having lost part of ourselves when we lose those who helped make us who we are. I am so thankful for The Boss his music helps me deal with life.
Me to Grant M
I listen to this over and over again. So many Covid restrictions but this makes me feel alive. I want to hear Bruce play it live and dance like never before. You dance along???
Γειά σου Bruce Springsteen να τα εκατοστήσεις πάντα να είσαι καλά να έχεις υγεία καί αγάπη και να είσαι αμετανόητος ροκάς μπράβο σου.🙋🇬🇷
Wow. What he would do with this song live!
He'd sing it that's what.
Just when you thought he couldn't get any better. Legend
@Bruce Springsteen as if the real Bruce Springsteen would give me his private number🤣🤣
This song resonated with my soul - for all those who have gone before us. So much loss this year - you don't have to be in a band to understand the meaning behind this amazing song. It is in my head and won't let go. I lost my son in 2012 in a fire, he was only 24, my only child. I think about him, knowing he is a spirit that lives in my spaces, in my head, in my heart. I honestly can't wait see him on the other side. Seriously one of the best songs Bruce has even done.
Please accept my deepest condolences. Very sorry.
This is my favorite Springsteen and E St Band song. I can't believe this was recorded live in 5 days in his home studio with all the musicians and vocals, everything completely live.🗯️🙌 Bravo. 🤎 For my 21yr old daughter who took her life in 1999. She's my light.
She's my spirit that moves through the night. 💜💙
I so sorry, I know what it’s like. My son left in 2004.
I believe it.
De Sledge - You have been dealt Fate's most cruel blow. Losing a child is unquestionably the WORST thing that can ever happen to anyone. Suicide makes it even worse, (as if I could be any worse.) We all expect to bury our parents; but no one should EVER have to say goodbye to their child. She is still with you-
If you're a 65 year old drummer who grew up playing with your childhood musician friends...2 of whom I still play with...others we've lost...can't get through this son without the tears...brilliant!!!
Bruce and The E street band at their best!!!!!!
If you love Rock and Roll, this song is everything.
I can feel the blood shiver in my bones ❣️Whenever I listen to Bruce🙏❤
Esse e o Bruce. Que nos leva as lágrimas, ao riso,e arrepios 💖
The Boss....71 years old. But this still feels like he's young, wild, and free 😎
He is
the greatest
Way to go in life an inspiration to the younger ones half his age
That's how it is
Jerry: He is only as old as he feels he is. And in this case he is still just 25 yrs.
Great tune, Boss!!!!
Left me with a silly smile on my face
God knows I did need it
This is one of his best rock anthems of his career. If this had been released in the 80's, it would have shot to #1. Unfortunately, in the post-rock era, it was barely noticed.
👍 agreed
Apparently people would rather listen to nihilistic trash about getting hammered on a weekend or a one night stand, its usually something trite and shallow.
Rock is still going strong; its legacy radio and TV that’s dying
Bruce is back. Life has a meaning again!
Not sure he ever left. Western Stars is as strong of album as anything in his catalogue.
71 years young and still sounding good, still relevant. The older I get, the more I appreciate his music. Springsteen (like Mellencamp) never lost sight of why his music resonates with his fans: he writes not for himself, but for us.
John C Mellencamp cant hold a candle
One of his best ever. Instant classic.
I already like it and I haven't heard it yet!! : )
I think most people on here commenting feel that way....before they even hear it. Some are already anointing it the best he's ever written lol.
BobCat623923 very true. I wouldn’t say it was anywhere near his best and it’s probably not going to be the best song on the new cd. It’s just so good to have new music with the full band.
Bruce still has it, and probably won't ever lose it.
Agree!!!
A most amazing icon
This hit me as the most powerful song he's done since Tunnel of Love.
The more I listen to this it sounds reminiscent to the Born To Run Days. Maybe a little bit Tunnel Of Love sound but more Born To Run.
@Shane Jones I would say through Tunnel Of Love, Bruce was as great as anyone ever, but since then in my opinion, his work has not been as good or as interesting as Dylan's,McCartney's,Costello'sBowie's or a lot of other greats. I think though this one has a helluva lot of promise.
The best song since wreckingball
Grazie Bruce, dedicata a me ,dedicata a noi tuoi fan che ti amiamo moltissimo!!lunga vita boss💕💕
Keep all the world records aside. Bruce is coming♥️
Preorderd Vinyl birthday present for my Oct birthday. Bring it on Bruce 😀
@@kathleenmiller4587 woww🔥 which record though?
Thank you for a lifetime of fabulous music. Thanks for creating some of the greatest rock n roll music the world has enjoyed Mr. Springsteen.
At any age, 17 or 71, it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive. Rock on, Bossman.
I'm 70 next month been a fan since the 80s. Like Bruce I'm ageless, seen him 13 times - in UK, Paris and Toronto waiting eagerly for 14th.
A paean to his past, and well-deserved.... Springsteen has brought so much joy to so many people that he has literally improved this planet.
They don't call him "The Boss" for no reason
It's only having travelled far down the dusty road of life that you can look back and write lyrics like this.
I'm not going to lie...I have an unhealthy obsession with Bruce. This is classic Bruce. A song that makes you smile and feel good from the intro to the closing notes. I love the old footage. Anyone else reminded of We Take Care of our Own on the opening drum sequence? I cannot wait until I can see him live in concert again.
This song....hit my 53 year old heart the way "Thunder Road" did when I was 17. I wanted to get out. Desperately. The angst of Thunder Road brought chills to my soul. My girl was named Tammy...and I always said, "Tammy climb in" when I pulled to the curb near her home in my 1972 Chevy Nova and we got the F out of there. Ghosts is a reverse angst. The pain of living. The pain of loss. The celebration of remembering what those people meant too us...the lessons we learned. The pain we felt is a distant past to the memories we have from the things that defined us. This is a life pass before eyes video. I've watched this so many times. My heart overflows....with memories of my old pain and how that shaped me into the person I am today. He. Did. It. Again.
Ghosts. A decades-later coda to Thunder Road. And no less thrilling. Well put, brother.
The day we lose Bruce will be a very sad day.
I think we cannot imagine lose him. It will be a disaster for a lot of us.
Don't... Please. I can't imagine life without Springsteen as much as I can't imagine life without my husband. I'd be done.
But we're all ALIVE!!!
150% chance this is the set opener when he goes on tour next year.
50,000 people screaming "I'm Alive"!!!
Exactly, it has to be
Can't wait for it!
I would bet my house this will be the opener...and it will blow the roof off any arena...and Stadium crowds will be heard from miles away. Cant wait
I do believe when Bruce and the E Street Band are seen again this is the song that will kick off the shows. It rocks, has guts and is meaningful.
It would be an incredible opener.
He started his new tour tonight with "No Surrender" and this song was second...what a 1-2 punch!
@@chrisorlando6162 Good way to go. I knew "Ghosts" would be at the start or close to it. However I did not think Bruce would allow this situation with tickets to happen as it has. Just sad to now become well everybody else does it. Does not make it right and now many of his fans will not be able to go. Unless you have bucks to burn. You know the most I ever paid? $128 in 2016 to stand in the pitt. Before that in 2012 was $85 in the pitt.
Uepa! Starting the day with Bruce and a new song is heaven! Let´s see (and hear) what The Boss has for us after his 71st birthday. Waiting and waiting and waiting...
Simplemente el mejor. El jefe.
Rock on, Bruce! Can't wait for the entire album :)
First heard him in 76 and he just keeps on coming up with outstanding new material year on year 👏
Incredible that in all the madness of 2020 the world still got an album from Springsteen and Dylan
I really like Dylan's album.
Blue Oyster Cult released one today.
Ya musicians have to still keep releasing, the world still needs music. I was gonna postpone mine, but it was ready to go so I just put it out. I can tour it next year hopefully.
Those two releases are the best things to happen this year.
AC/DC is releasing a new one as well, Iron Maiden will release a live album, for me as a German rock fan the band Die Ärzte is releasing their new album the same day as Bruce, so it's not all that bad.
Superb! - the most E Street song he has released in years! - happy birthday, Boss.....
