    Great video. I'll have to go over all my personal settings and compare because I did set & forget long time ago and never bothered since I got it to my preference that work. Only once the OpenXR Toolkit got available I did change from 70% to 100 / 100 scaling and 80 / 20 in Toolkit with FSR if I remember it correctly on my AMD R9 5900X / RX 5700 XT pc with a G2. Thanks for all your work and guidelines. Much appreciated.

    Smashing!
    Short of having the room or finance to build your own physical simulator, for your favourite model of aircraft, then I see this [VR] as the only way to properly immerse yourself into this domain.
    The terrain looks almost half convincing in this flight simulation presentation, although I would like to see it fly over some houses [my own house] at low altitude to gauge whether its going to compress the roof as if made of a brown pancake of plasticine or a cow pat!
    I've only experienced VR through the cheap fixed lens-type Google thing, with my mobile phone slotted into the side of them. Even with a silly little set up like that, the immersion is near mind blowing. So, I can only imagine the incredible experience MSFS must be like through the set up the gentleman is showing here!
    No need for surrounding yourself with power hungry 4K monitors the size of a motorway advertisement awnings, just don the headset and immerse yourself.
    The only VR flight sim presentation I've seen so far was some years ago of a chap getting into a Cessna-type propeller aircraft and using the hand-wand sensors of I think a VIVE unit (?) to activate the switches and flight controls. Else, when seeing him move his head around - all around - without a break in the field of view was a paradigm shift for me. I thought back to my basic experience with the cheapo Google VR set up, and sharks swimming around me - and I didn't take much convincing to completely accept this way of sim involvement.
    What an absolutely smashing way to escape and have some innocent fun - lots of it!
    Thank you.

    Steve, I agree with your settings, mine are almost exactly the same, after considerable testing. Great vid for the community. Thanks. For some reason in my Nvidia settings with a 30 series card pre-rendered frames at 1 gives me exactly the same fps as does 2, but @ 2 a few micro-stutters creep in after being in VR for 30mins plus? Terrain Level of Detail (which is simply draw distance) is also a big hitter I've found. I agree with SU8...don't know what has changed but a much smoother experience. 👍

    Thanks for the update here! I recently got a EVGA RTX3080ti water-cooled Hybrid as part of their Elite Member Que. (On the list for 9months! Still had to hold-in the vomit, lol, due to the current MSRP of just a video card these days, ouch! But recently read the new 4000 series coming out will set an even higher bar for GPU prices in the future, a "double-ouch" for us simmers, LOL!) Question: 1) Do you see any difference between NIS or FSR because I don't and other helpful RUclipsrs select NIS for their option on 30 series cards. 2) Does motion reprojection drop in large steps when hitting a "PC/GPU/Data Download Limit" for some reason? (FPS: 45-30-22.5 for example?) I have been running 60% Scale Factor and 20% sharpness since Open XR came out. I like 45 FPS in my G2 with Motion Reprojection on always. I still get some weird 30FPS dips that last only a fraction of a second in cities at specific intervals. I am assuming they might be terrain download data; because while watching graphs in MSI Aterburner, my GPU load actually dips then spikes a little in the 70's then stabilizes back into steady state in the 60's% range again and my CPU NEVER peaks above the 70% range during these same intervals where the FPS drops down to the next lower step. However my internet connection is not the best in the remote area of the USA where I live; only 9meg Up/Down!!! If I crank up either Scale Factor or Sharpness, the base FPS starts to slip into the upper 30's but then those same dips hit into the low 20's which I find is really annoying for any lengthy flight. Your thoughts are appreciated! Keep up the good work here while holding down a real job, he, he!!! (P.S. On one of your older video posts: Had the same color FJR1300, at least looked like one with my poor eyes, LOL!)

    Helpful video. Have you always turned on vertical sync in the Nvidia CP? Always gives me stutters on my 3080, so I keep it off. Do you find much difference in visual fidelity between texture resolution at ultra and high settings on your 3090?

    Steve - as always, a great video. I follow you really closely and just upgraded to a G2 V2 and made good progress, in all areas except Motion Reprojection, which was just too jerky for me. However, just tweaking the settings to that in this video has made that work almost flawlessly. Although it works, it does make the cockpit dials a little less clear and there are a few other annoyances that makes me still prefer it being off.
    One thing I have noticed though is I am getting a slight lag/joltiness with it off....I had noticed that since update 8 anyway. It turns out, if I come out of VR, go to the OpenXR tools and switch "Use latest preview OpenXR runtime" to off, the lag disappears completely. This might be useful for someone else, but would welcome thoughts...

    Great video! I'm curious about your recording process. At times I see the black borders come into view, I recall having this with Oculus products when recording, but never with the G2. Are you recording with the G2? If so, would you be able to share your process? My G2 videos come out choppy, and eventually lag to a stop, although gameplay is still smooth, and perfect, even in High Photogrammetry areas like KLAX. I still find, in August 2022, that I need to start the sim 1st, then trigger VR activation(which is quick; around 20secs, from within the sim). I find sometimes that VR isn’t detected by the sim on stater up & doesn’t show the option once in sim, so I have to restart. I haven’t had a chance to try your settings on my AMD system & Valve Index, so I’ll do that when I get the chance. Open XR toolkit is great, but I’ve found I have to turn off Image sharpening in the Adrenaline tool.

(3900x 32gb ddr4 and 1080Ti) I have also my VR graphics in that tab set to a good balance for good graphics and decent fps..... If I am going to just use VR, does it help to turn the graphics in the 'PC' tab to the lowest they will go?? does that help or is it redundant once you enter VR mode?? :)

    Hi VR Flight Sim Guy, I found your recommendations very clear and easy to understand however even with your settings, I am still struggling with VR performance as low as 2 FPS - while my normal display gets mid to high 50s.
    I was previously experiencing mid to high 20 FPS VR and cannot point to exactly when / what has caused the drop off in performance.
    My CPU typically running at less than 50% and GPU at 98-100%
    My system specs are:
    Windows 11 Home 64
    MSI B560 B560M, Pro-E MS 7D-22 Intel U3-E1 - gaming mode selected (whatever that means)
    Intel Comet Lake Core I5 10400 @ 2.9GHZ
    32GB memory
    NVidia GEFORCE GTX 1660 Super 2047MB, drivers up to date
    2 Samsung SSD 860 EVO
    HP Reverb G2 VR
    I went through and uninstalled recent NVidia and Windows updates, I have uninstalled and reinstalled WMR but no appreciable changes in performance :-(. I use OpenXR with your recommended settings.
    I am at a loss at where to go next and would appreciate anything you could suggest to help fix or at least diagnose my system.
    Thanks very much

    Steve - thank you for a very well produced VR video. You put in considerable effort and much appreciated. I am a private pilot and have found practice on MSFS invaluable to sharpen my skills and develop muscle memory. It is so much safer for flying in bad weather! VR is much better for depth perception when lining up when turning base and final. I have no stuttering but my picture is not sharp on the HP G2 (almost fly screen door like) with my i710700 RTX 2070 super and 32GB of ram. I would be so grateful if you could recommend the ideal settings for the 2070 super as I cannot tell if it is the headset or the PC which is causing the lack of clarity and I have spent hours tweaking the settings. Would upgrading to a 3080 card solve my issue or can I adjust the settings to get a sharp picture with my 2070? I would very happily make a donation to your excellent chanel. Thanks very much.

      Hey Tony thankyou so much for your wonderful words of support. It's always a pleasure to speak to real world pilots who invest into VR for flight training. To be honest if you can, a 3080 would help boost the clarity of your G2 as you'll be able to enjoy upping that render scale slider more. Your 2070 super is only about 4% faster than a 1080ti, however, it also depends on your CPU. It's never an easy game this VR stuff I tell you!

    • @SpaceJockey805
      @SpaceJockey805 2 года назад

      I agree - I used to have a 2070 Super but eventually upgraded to a 3080… and I can tell you that it’s a game changer in terms of clarity and performance. Also upgrading to a high performance CPU will work wonders in itself. Not sure if you’re running an Intel or an AMD system, but I’m running a R9 5900x (12 cores, 24 threads) and it handles literally everything I need it do in VR, and beyond.

    I get 0 perf difference between supersampling off and supersampling at 8×8 on my 2080ti which makes no sense to me. Does that setting affect VR?
    Also, AF should be essentially "free" performance wise. Unless VR has some different interaction with it, AF has been one of the few settings that hasn't affected performance in a fairly long time. Hope this helps! :)

    • @VRFlightSimGuy
      @VRFlightSimGuy  2 года назад +2

      @@VRFlightSimGuy Interesting hobbit affects the 1080ti. My son and I tested it on his 1070ti but there was no difference (non-vr). I wonder if VR is what changes things with that setting.

    • @4secsharkmr352
      @4secsharkmr352 2 года назад +1

      The supersampling is only responsible for seeing more structural detail textures. 8x8 is better but it costs a bit performance. I would recommend to set it to off with an 10er card to 4x4 with 20er card and only the higher settings with 30er cards. Between 4x4 and 8x8 I don't see a big difference.
      If you mean with AF = anisotropic filtering: good. There is a bit difference between 4 / 8 / 16x. The higher the further you see sharp textures. Best example is standing on an taxiway and look at the yellow line on the ground.
      Regarding performance I would recommend to set it to 8x with 10er and 20er cards but 16x for 30er cards.

    • @MCP2002

      @@4secsharkmr352 I havent had a perf impact from AF in years and years, perhaps VR is different. AF is often considered the "Free" graphics setting (at least in Non-VR).

    • @4secsharkmr352
      @4secsharkmr352 2 года назад +1

      @@MCP2002 yep, for 2D that is right. With my system running an 2D game with 144 fps I see no difference at all. In VR my Aero runs a much higher resolution than my 2D monitor. AF isn't loss free at all because it sharpens the AA and that is in VR much more pixels than in 2D. Using an 8kx an Aero or the HP G2 there are many pixel per eye to be rendered. Not only the core resolution. No, in addition to that the pixels which are used to prevent distortion in the edges of the lenses.

Not taking a jab, but it's true. I'm sure you followed that advice yourself before coming to the realization that these settings were okay? People aren't going to load into Boston, London, or New York and have their comps blow up, right? Haha. Sorry, can't help it when all these videos show mountains rather than urban areas. There's no conspiracy, it comes down to how it looks on the VR mirror, at 30 frames per second it can look awful when recorded but fine in the headset, so I like to record areas that have at least 50fps, make sense? However do check out my comparison tests where I do show New York, London among others
