I haven't played any flight sims. But I'm new to PC and VR and I've had no issues setting it up and playing it. Well besides the controller tracking but the system they have for it to predict where your hand is going when out of view, seems to have been updated a lot since it first released.

I have to say the microphone in the Reverb G2 is amazing!. I use VoiceAttack in some games like Elite Dangerous using Voice Packs to issue commands, and I was struggling while playing in VR with an Oculus Quest headset, many times it didn't "hear me" right and I had to repeat commands many times, even while using over-the-ear headphones , so it was not a noise feedback issue with the speakers. Well, not anymore since I got the Reverb G2 V2, the microphone quality is great and it recognizes all of my commands accurately, even while using the headphone solution of the G2, which doesn't isolate sound at all, so the microphone is great to recognize my voice commands well even while having a relatively high speaker volume. This is imppresive.

Just some feedback, with your initial introduction and comments constantly bashing the G2, I was reaching for the stop button just when you started change over to giving it a chance. Ten seconds earlier and I would have never gotten the information you finally provided. In the end, your review was great and it has helped to convince me that this is the VR headset that I want to get for DCS and Helicopters with my new PC build, but I almost missed out.

Great video. I just ordered the G2 on sale for Canada Day to replace my Index. Originally VR was only room scale for me which the Index is amazing for but I've purely been doing Sim racing with it and the screen door effect and terrible blurriness at a distance makes the $1200 headset feel like I have a $100 screen attached to my head.

I upgraded from the original HTC Vive to the HP G1, and then to the G2 and had no problems setting up either of them. However, I ended up replacing the G2's uncomfortable faceplate with a leather one and the head strap/harness with a new 3d printed one as I found that extremely uncomfortable and heavy after wearing it for a few hours. Squadron mates have the Varjo and other brands of headsets but it appears that the G2 still provides the best price for features IMHO.

I also had no problems with my HP G2 V2 headset. The only issue I have with the G2 is the visuals with the lenses. I find it has a small sweet spot in the lenses even with that plastic insert removed to get eyes closer. I dont wear glasses. I find my Rift S is better in visual quality than the G2 even though the G2 has higher resolutions.
Still playing around with the G2 to see if I can make it better, but not holding my breath.

For now I’ve given up on the more expensive Varjo Aero and Pimax 8KX both of which I have returned in turn. This video convinced me to concentrate on the G2 for now, so I’ve ordered one - at £600 it’s a very reasonable option. I’ve been using a Quest 2 until now. There are just too many compromises with the ‘top end’ headsets for now, another year hopefully will produce some improved options. My Q2 is frankly, amazing value for money. I’m not a fan of Facebook or their plans but that aside. I would like a headset whose backers do not require a ‘sign up’, that has something like Aero clarity, G2 audio, a FOV around 140/110(deg) horizontally/vertically with steady tracking and comfortable/light, I’m not bothered about being cable free as I am almost exclusively a flier only, MSFS & DCS.
All that having been said I find the technology amazing, and I just am so grateful for those who make it possible. For me, it has brought to life some lost dreams and treasured memories.

Problem quite quickly solved with help of a computer guy. (Updated bios?)
The Reverb is a nice improvement from the Quest, the colours and clarity in the centre are what make a difference for me, possibly the sound too. Overall it is a significant improvement. It accurately provides the ‘heat’ and ‘atmospherics’ of an African afternoon at the airport that was big in my enthusiastic time. Fantastic technology that will quickly become really mind blowing, actually it is already. Now if only I knew how to download the Cessna’s I bought yesterday and get them working in MSFS! Is there a real dummies guide video that isn’t made at 100mph?! 🤣

Never had a problem with the G2 in MSFS. It did work out of the box for me. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I think most peoples problems come from their pc hardware/specs not being up to snuff/compatible, WMR issues and the fickleness of the VR integration from Asobo. The headset is a great piece of kit. The Quest2 on the other hand was a total ball ache for me in MSFS. The G2 was a breeze in comparison.

  • @paulsaunders6536

For the money I would say it represents the best value. I had an occulus rift before buying the G2. Never looked back. Yes there are sets with a wider field of view and sharper clarity but you need and absolute beast of a PC to run them at anywhere near max capacity. VR is a hungry beast there will always be a trade off between FPS and graphics detail. I can run IL2 BoS on Ultra in VR all day long and get a steady 45 FPS using repro, I only get get 90FPS in an uncluttered sky. This with a 10900k processor, RTX3080, fast RAM and an ssd.
We are back to the bad old days of continually tweaking settings to get the graphics/fps balance just right for our individual PC set ups. In the end I turned off the VR monitoring software and just went with look and feel.
If I’m happy with the look and the feel of the way the sim plays that’s good enough. Took a while but once you hit that sweet spot then dogfighting VR is an unparalleled experience.

Funnily enough i got both my Reverb G2 and Quest 3 on the same day last week and tried both straight away on MSFS/4090/13700k . I played about with a lot of settings on Quest 3 but could not get near the clarity of the G2 , everything is so clear with the G2. It does have a small sweet spot which seems to be straight ahead so you do have to get used to moving your entire head to look at things rather than just your eyes. The alien invasion game that comes with the Quest 3 in augmented reality is quite cool though.

I tried the Reverb G2 but returned it because I just couldn't get it to show me the resolution and detail I needed. Everything would be a blurry mess no matter what settings I tried. The only part of my view that would have a usable level of detail/clarity would be the X-axis. Anything above or below it was like wearing someone else's prescription glasses and I couldn't see shit. Even with the object in the dead center of my view range, the detail just wasn't there.
I couldn't identify other aircraft until it was far too late for me to avoid their guns/missiles. It was simply unusable for a combat flight sim. I tried everything and came to the conclusion that everyone else simply has much lower expectations than I did. I expected the headset to be competitive in terms of being able to spot and identify aircraft at a similar distance to what I can do without VR and it couldn't.

I got a G2 at launch to replace my CV1 for simracing. The G2 was a nightmare in the beginning. For one there’s really no documentation from HP on base line settings. Like what to set the resolution to in Steam vs the per game vs WMR.
Then I had tracking issues like crazy until I added a studio light above my monitor. Sh*tty FOV and sh*tty sweet spot as well. Connection issues with a Z370 mobo. WMR doesn’t recognize a HMD plugged in kind of thing.
I recently got a V2 version of the G2 last December when it was on sale. The increased fov is a plus but not game changing. The sweet spot still sucks. Once again I had tracking issues for about week until I figured out my once necessary studio light was freaking the tracking out. Once I shut it off I never had another problem.
Unfortunately the HMD stopped working one day. It was only 2 months old. It was working one minute and not the next. Dealing with support was a nightmare. It took over a month to resolve the issue and get a working headset again.
I have a pretty decent system. 5900X, 3080ti, 32GB 3600 C16 ram but I still have weird performance problems in all the titles I play. I have to have the settings turned down so low its almost pathetic. I’m sure there’s something I’m doing wrong but thats kinda my point here. The Reverb G2 is not a user friendly mainstream HMD. I’m not a stranger to tweaking stuff. I have a crazy simulator with motion, 12 usb devices alone for just the sim. However, figuring out this G2 wasn’t something I can recommend to anyone.

Need a new video on what's the best VR headset today and what is coming in 2023. I'm a real life amateur pilot and a hardcore sim player. It is time I move to VR, but I just don't know what to get. Quest 2 seems to be the best at this point, but perhaps I should wait a little bit and get Quest 3 which is coming in 2023? Hopefully in Q1 or Q2 of 2023...

I wish I could get ANY image on the G2. Well, I can if I set the OpenXR runtime to SteamVR and use the SteamVR to Mixed Reality software. But any attempt to use Windows Mixed Reality OpenXR directly just puts me in a black void in the headset when turning MSFS VR mode on. I reinstalled all the Mixed Reality stuff, no help. Very frustrating. Windows 11, all up to date, latest Nvidia drivers for the 3060.

Hi, do you run your g2 at 2232*2184 or set the thing at 100% super sampling ( wich is the reason why people keep complaining about frame rate on most of the games running at 90 HZ even with a 4090) ? the g1 has a 100% resolution of 2208*2160 and it was presumably recognized that way by steam cause HP would have tweaked the g1 firmware to communicate to steam vr that the native resolution was indeed 2208*2160, as the 1000 gpu card generation was not powerfull enough, nor the 2000 or the 3000 and my 4090 can't do the job for a 3156*3088 resolution on the g2.
I wonder why they haven't tweaked the g2's firmware to do the same ?
MY question is : as a g2 user do you consider 2232*2184 is half resolution even if it more or less matches the 2160*2160 panel of the device ?
    thanks.

The downside is the very poorly engineered display cable; I took mine apart and it looked like something one of my undergraduates or even high school students would design. I threw one out as it's cheaper to purchase a new headset than a replacement cable.

why has VR got so damned expensive? I bought my first headset for a little over 200 GBP (I gave that one up due to it not working with the games I wanted it to work with) and the 2nd for much the same (I gave that up due to motion sickness as I was afraid of it causing epilepsy - yes I had read it could at the time and as a driver I didn't want to risk it); yet now they are no less than 500 to 700 GBP. Crazy.

I love the Reverb G2 but I often get blackouts for 1 to 2 secs
I have downloaded and upgraded the firmware as HP said there was an issue with the audio when set to full, this made no difference.
Just would like to know if you have experienced this, as it appears others have and have not yet found the answer.
Also others where sent new cables which also made no difference.
