Incredible that they charge an arm and a leg for doing something relatively easy with the proper tools. Thanks for sharing!!
Ur paying for knowledge not labor
Man I just got a call that it will be 800+ to do both brakes. My heart is hurting
Geez
@@lshaffer1980 $800 is insanely expensive for that job. No doubt they would charge tax and find some other fees in addition to the quoted price.
@@rkris7837 theres a difference for charging a decent price for knowledge going from 200 dollar job to a 500-600 is insane especially for brakes
thanks for making this video im about to go change my brakes here in a few.
Excellent video, helped me do the job right the first time. Thank you for posting.
No problem
Measure once, cut twice.
Good job, excpet I would recommend adding a step. Use a wire brush to remove the rust from the axle around the mounting bolts and use some anti-seize on the mounting surface.
I always remove my guide pins and lube them with only brake grease clear silicone is my choice . I always change my hardware and grease certain ares on the new pads and caliper bracket as well after pumping the brakes its a good idea to check the brake fluid level
Amazing how easy it is when you don’t have to deal with northeastern rust.
Impact screwdriver is the best bet for those screws. If you strip them you will be drilling them out. For really rusty ones you may need a torch. Put anti seize on screws before reinstalling.
That’s why I’m using one bud.
Awesome video . Thank you so much . Best video ever 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks.
Great teacher!
Are you sure you cant get to the caliper frame bolts with a socket? How are you supposed to torque it?
If I take the wheel off I could probably tell just be looking but do you know if this is the same for the hybrids models? I have a 2012 sonata hybrid.
It should be 90% similar.
Very good video. I havent done my own brakes in many yrs butam tired of the cost to have a mechanic do it so looking into doing it myself. I remember using a C clamp to push the piston in but that tool you use looks very handy. Is it sold at auto parts stores? Any way wish me luck you're video was very good
Yes you can buy it at the parts store or on Amazon.

@@ronaldcrane4665 Hi, seen this and thought I’d ask where and how much ??
Great video with good placement of camera and step by step verbal instructions. You did forgot to put grease on the outer parts of the pads so this car will eventually develop squeaky brakes from the metal to metal contact between the caliper and the backs of the brake pads.
Zich Ragland No that’s why those backing plates are there on most ALL modern brake pads. Those are there on purpose for this reason.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair - Thanks for the reply.......watched other videos where people were putting grease on them. Old school mechanics I guess who were not up on the newer type. ;) Thanks again and God Bless!!
Impacting screwdriver is almost always needed to get those rotor retainer screws out.
I have never done brakes before so it will be my first time doing them myself. I just need the brake caliper reset tool to do it. How easy would you rate this from 1 being easy to 10 being hard for a first time brake replacement.
4, you got this bro! 💪🏾
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair Thanks I am making a check list and buying everything I need for tomorrow. It sucks I have to do a ton of car maintenance tomorrow.
Great video, but when I was changing my 2014 Sonata front brakes, As I mash the caliper back into place, brake fluid started leaking from the top of the master cylinder, the top was on as tight as it could be, do you know what could have made that happen?
Vernon Doss Thisdoes happen and rare occasions. As you are pressing the caliper piston back in, the fluid is also being pushed back into the system and most of the time the reservoir will be able to hold the extra fluid being forced back up. Sometimes there is just a bit too much fluid and it spills out. Nothing to worry about. Just wipe up the mess.
Get a turkey baster from the dollar store and take a little brake fluid out of the master cylinder before you press the piston back in.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair I've changed brakes before on a '96 mercury sable I didn't use that compression tool... is it something special that u need for a Hyundai seeing how it's a newer car?
Sed Badie it’s not 100% necessary but it makes compressing the caliper piston back in much easier.
Before compressing the piston back in take the cap off the brake reservoir that will do the trick
Hi just replacing pads I pushed piston in as far as I could with same tool as yours but having problems getting caliper over pads in fact whom on front pad came off when pounding caliper in place ..do I need to bleed fluid? Piston seems all the way in however the rubber is crunched up a little ....help!!!!
The rubber will crinkle up. That’s normal. Sometimes the caliper can be difficult to get over the pads just right. Unless there is a wrong part installed, the caliper should slide back over the pads without much difficulty. Make sure to seat the rotor completely onto the hub and use a lug nut to hold the rotor straight. Then put the pads into place and squeeze them firmly onto the rotor surface. Then slide the caliper over the new pads. Make sure you use an old pad to provide EVEN pressure when pushing the piston back into the caliper.
Would you need to bleed the brakes after ?
Nope. If you follow the video that is. If for some reason you open the bleed valves, then yes you will need to bleed the brakes.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair the reason is if they'd bleed the valve is because its gonna be easier to compress the piston by hand 👍🏻
Do you have to change the rotator
Human Person If you have been driving with a grinding or scraping noise for some time now most definitely yes.
You can get them turned for cheaper than buying new rotors.
Question.....how about the rear brakes? Same ? If different do you have a video? I have 2014 Sonata GLS
I don’t have a video unfortunately. Your are correct though. It will be the same process with the exception of the caliper bolts possibly being a smaller size.
When you put the car in the air on jack stands. Leave the e brake off. This will help you get the rear caliper off.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair Thanks
I've changed brakes before on a '96 mercury sable I didn't use that compression tool... is it something special that u need for a Hyundai seeing how it's a newer car?
Your piston basically sticks out more as your brake pads get thinner. When you put new brake pads on, you would use a compressing tool to push the piston back into place (because the new brake pads will be thick of course). So it can be difficult to put the caliper back on the rotor if the piston sticking out like that. So if the caliper doesn't fit on, then you'll need to use a compression tool, otherwise it's not needed.
@@fraazsheikh3904 thanks for the info
A C clamp will work also. That tool is a little nicer to work with than a C clamp though
Which way does the hub but come off
Hub bolt?
If so, counter clockwise is loosen.
How do u know if your rotors need to be rwplaces
If they have large grooves on the face or if there is a sharp lip towards the edge of the rotor.
Where would you check if your emergency breaks are not that strong.
The cables need to be tightened.
Can I have your old rotor? Looks better than mine.
Lol
I once got away with using big go to hell screwdriver, pried against old brake pad before taking it out,
voila brake compressed
Yep that works sometimes
lol the retaining screws did not come off “pretty easily”
Lol, well for some.
Have anybody studs broke on their sonata am
Your knees ashy asf but good video 😂
Lmao, bruh why you looking at my knees.
Helping Hand Auto Repair I’m just kidding man lol
Paid N Full oh I know. Made me laugh
