    Compared to other similar channels that do car reviews, this has got to be the best I've seen. Well presented, excellent delivery, very good videography, information relevant without BS waffle. I was undecided on the Boxter GTS versus other options and your video succinctly pointed out what the the car is about and its limitations. Well done.

      I have had my 19 Boxster S with all go fast goodies about a month. It is an excellent sports car. 2 things I went S over GTS was that manual, 19in wheels, and sport tech 18w seats were musts. The review nailed the car.

    Great review! But I am curious about one thing: you mention several times that switching between Normal/Sport/Sport+ changes the ride height. I’m pretty sure that’s not the case - it only changes the stiffness of the suspension. If your Porsche has PASM then, by default, the suspension is lower than a Porsche without PASM, but that height is fixed - it does not change by switching between Normal/Sport/Sport+. And if you opted to have Sport PASM on your Porsche then the ride is a bit lower than standard PASM, but again - it’s a fixed amount and does not change based upon driving mode.
    From the Porsche website:
    Optional PASM, the electronic damping control system, continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on current road conditions and driving style. In addition, the body sits 10 mm lower.
    PASM has two modes, which can be selected using a separate button on the center console: ‘Normal’, which is a blend of performance and comfort, and ‘Sport’ where the setup is much firmer.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 лет назад +1

      Indeed, no height adjustment, just stiffness. Brian was wrong on that

    Brian talks! He was going to tell us what a GTS offered over a specced up S at a lower cost perhaps, but didn't! Love the 718 switchgear and cockpit but just don't like blank switches! "A bit bumpy... a remarkably comfy ride!" Love the Eiffel region. Good camera-work, Jonas.

    Thank you for the great review. In the US, most tracks do not allow convertibles so I chose the 718 Cayman GTS. In spite of all the negative sound comments from purchase owners on the flat 4 turbo, I say drive it before you hate it. The turbo has peak torque from 1900-5600 rpm so it pulls everywhere. Much more usable for the road and if you want a real track car, buy the GT4. The 718 Cayman/Boxster is the finest sports car you can buy for the money.

    Automatic start stop gains the manufacturers a higher mpg number as the engine automatically turns off when the car is between tests instead of idling between tests and that saves fuel. For owners it just wears out the components faster so keep it turned off.

    I just spent four days in Sonoma and San Francisco with a base/sport chrono/pdk 718. I completely agree with you about the sport exhaust mode being completely unnecessary as well as the engine start/stop mode being annoying. Porsche has a long history of four cylinder sports cars and to me this engine makes complete sense and works very well in this car. Does this engine sound as good to me as a flat 6? No, but it still sounds unique and I enjoyed it. I happen to love the deep growl of flat fours.
    The aspect that killed the experience for me was the pdk. I’ve been trying to like these types of transmissions for ten years now and I don’t think it will ever happen. I would take a Miata RF with a manual in a heartbeat before the particular car I drove. Throw a true manual in the 718 and the decision would be more difficult.
    I think Porsche nailed the look as it looks fantastic to me. The handling is perfection whether on a country road or in the city, materials are very nice, and the usability is wonderful for my 6’3” height. The amount of trunk space is surprising and we had plenty of space for two roller board suitcases and backpacks. However, I’m guessing that considering this car’s options it probably priced out >$75k which I feel is insane. I don’t think that’s just me considering the amount of new 2017’s still available for sale. If I was considering a Boxster, a 2011 Spyder would top my list.

      @dpkVT 5 лет назад +8

      The GTS is lowered 20mm compared to the base model, and 10mm compared to the S model with PASM. The ride height is fixed. When you engage the different settings (Sport, Sport +) the suspension stiffens, the ride height stays the same.

    Absolutely an excellent ( ! ) review of this wonderful car. I just traded in my 2002 911 Turbo X50, and my 2016 Mercedes Benz S550 (both cars AWD) in on a new 718 Caymen GTS. Unfortunately, there is a hold on releasing the 2019 GTS due to two factory recalls, one is a radio software upgrade, and the second recall is a strengthening of the front crossmembers in the front, in case of frontal impact. I cannot wait to get that Carmine PDK beauty in my garage! Keep up the good work!

    Excellent video, but I'd like to suggest that you have a professional check your driving position. You need to be closer to the wheel as your arms are extending too much. The seat appears to be close enough, but it may be that the seat back is reclined too much. Also, your head is too close to the headliner. You should be able to put a lengthwise fist on top of your head.

      I would buy a base Cayman and get it at cheaper price available i don't care about options or big sport sound and i can't order . dealers can't say when it's available to order. Im in France.

      T for drivers.

      911 T has 370 bhp compared the 365 bhp of the 718 GTS. That is about $5,000 more for each 1 bhp. The 718 is a better looking car in my book.

      @golfbuddy1969 6 лет назад

      MrHiBeta which looks better is your opinion of course. Mid engine cars are a hoot to drive, but to me, the Carrera T looks better, and in owning a 911, you’re owning a part of automotive history.

      Much more time, they have said recently they would focus just as much on hybrids as electrics so good sound is here to stay 🙂.

    A Cayman makes more sense then the Boxster due to the solid roof for me. If a Boxster came with a hard convertible top, as opposed to a canvas top, a Boxster would be ideal in my opinion. I agree on the stop/start auto cutoff button-painful. My other car is a 2018 Macan. The stop/start function in the Macan can be full time disabled, as opposed to deactivating it every time the engine is started.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 лет назад

      How does that work with the constant disabling?

    • @MrHiBeta
      @MrHiBeta 6 лет назад

      Autogefühl Press the auto on/off button once, and it stays off for good. Stays off over multiple engine starts.
