Pete, your videos are fantastic mate. What people have to realise is that you are an enthusiast not a specialist and quite often the content is your view and not an absolute science so don't beat yourself up over it. I for one will continue to enjoy your uploads as always.
In all fairness you are a one man producer, presenter and content creator extraordinaire, during lockdown you kept us entertained and I sincerely appreciate your hard work, I think about the good things that you do rather than minor errors. Frankly, there is no such thing as messing up even big media organisations make mistakes. Viewers can be very critical with all the advantages of hindsight, but we are mere spectators, credit to your creativity and content!
I agree with all you have said about your productions. They’re great entertainment. Don’t lose sight some critics are jealous of your success. It’s equally hard to keep your content fresh, so well done 👍 just one gripe that is creeping in to our everyday conversation… Super hard, super efficient etc…. Drives me nuts! So could we start saying ‘very’ again please? If you could it would make me ‘super’ happy 😃
I think it was really cool that you revisited the video and addresses the inaccuracies. Personally, I would limit the facts and figures and focus upon your own feeling about, and assessment of, the car. I can easily find out the weight or 0-60 but I cannot find out how good the lights are for example without driving the car at night, something most testers completely overlook. Well done, I applaud your integrity.
I had a 4cyl 718 Boxster S 2.5L and it was a brilliant bit of kit. I now own a 911 but if I had the money I would still have the 718 too. Obviously very different cars in there own right but equally enjoyable to drive. Another point to mention on the tyres, when I bought the 911 it had P zeros, I went to Snetterton and had a great day ragging them out and a week later fitted PS4S, it’s night and day how much better they are 👍. Love the channel Ped
I haven’t owned a Porsche yet but might be in the market for one soon. As you say, different cars but with your experience … new 718 Cayman S or 2nd hand 991 3.0 T (preferably S or 4S if Funds allowed!) It’s difficult, as a brand new car is always nice, but thinking you get the best of both with a 911, the flat 6 and ooodles of torque. Residuals probably better than a new Cayman 4 pot too?
@@Travelling-Byland ah really, are you looking for something different now? Unfortunately I don’t have the means just yet. My mortgage will be paid off in a couple of months, then another few to clear current car loan and I’ll be ready!!
@@Travelling-Byland yeah, I sold my Mustang and Camper van following lockdown, was pretty gutted about the former but put the money into mortgage and have been overpaying since. It’ll be gone a few years before the end of the fix so turned out to be a decent decision in the end! Then I’ll be able to waste some money on a nice car that doesn’t go far again 😂
Apology not required Ped - you, and your reviews, are refreshingly personal. Just like tyre kicking with our mates which is why we admire your content. You still need to come trialling mate :-)
As it’s been said you’re enthusiast not an automotive journalist and I’m really not bothered if you made a few errors mate. You were giving your impressions of the cars and telling us why you went with the flat four over the 6 cylinder. I enjoyed this video like I do all your videos because you’re you. You haven’t changed from the humble Petrolhead you were in the early days, the you tuber who helped us get through lockdown and created the scandal of sponge and flap gate to the success you have now. I’ve waffled on but please know this subscriber loves the content you take the time to put out and you’re appreciated.
I watch both you and joe because you are the normal average petrolhead in the street and 99% of the time you both work hard to provide quality and accurate content. I could never do what you guys do because of that minority out there just waiting to pounce on anything they can shake an angry fist at. My guess would be a really fat wallet stopping you sitting lower in the 4.0. Have to say i do enjoy the ped talks, whether its car catch ups or dog walks and now the podcast. Love you guys
You also forgot to mention in the original vid that the 4.0 GTS has 6-piston front brakes as opposed to the 2.5 S/GTS both having 4-pistons (rear brakes remained the same). Keep up the excellent content!
Well said Pete. Unlike most commenting I have owned both. I had the 2.5l flat 4 from new for just under 3 years and currently the 4.0 flat 6 for just over 2 years. They are quite different experiences. Personally, I prefer manual and the flat 6. Have only run P Zeros on both my Caymans so interested in your views on the PS4S’s. That’s what I want to move to…. Sounds like another video! Keep the content coming!
Not using launch control on the 2.5L GTS is nerfing it quite heavily vs the 4.0L. I've seen people launch the 2.5L GTS 0-100kmh in 3.7s, while the 4.0L only manged 3.8s with launch control. If you just accelerate by stomping the throttle, a naturally aspirated engine will ALWAYS have the advantage.
I have a 718 boxster and as soon as I swapped the P-Zero’s for MPS4S(N) it completely changed the experience and much improved the driving experience ESPECIALLY in the wet, I hope you enjoy them my friend!
I saw the first video of this topic a now the second one. Apart from the many comments and feedbacks you received, I think that isn't so common to find someone who honestly admits his mistakes. Many, would have moved on without any sense of responsibility and respect for the "right specs" of both cars. So... well done Pete! Thank you for what you doing and for seeking things done right 😉
I fitted 4 tires MICHELIN Pilot Sport 4S on red Fujilight Renault wheels (Trophy-R), these are really perfect tires, the finish on the sidewall is also as smooth as velvet. I am dressing the tires also with some CARPRO Darkside (you can use Carpro Pearl also) and the finish is lovely, beautiful tires to look at. I paid 880€ for 4 tires in 245/35R19 93Y which is not absolutely crazy regarding the quality. You'll love them on the Porsche for sure. Cheers from Belgium.
Minority viewers Pete, those that respect you and your channel know how difficult it is. As one of the best content creators out there, us mere mortal viewers have nothing to moan about, quite the opposite, gratitude for all that you do and the hard graft that you put in.
You shouldn't be afraid to use the launch control. It's literally designed to do it, the PDK box is very robust and it will do them all day long and not miss a beat.
The ecu keeps track each time LC is engaged. I think that’s his main concern when he stated he has to sell the car one day. It will show how many times LC been used and may affect its value.
@@seashackf1, I've always wondered if one could access that data. Apparently so. Thanks! Luckily Porsche builds their cars to keep going and going with LC. Cheers
@@Ididntaskforahandleyoutube yes, dealers can 100% access it. Owners should be able to also, but not with a basic scan tool. It would need to have access to the specific menus for that manufacturer that a cheap and basic tool wouldn’t. VW/Audi have the Ross Tech tool which you can get for as cheap as $200 depending on licenses. Not sure if it works on Porsche’s even though they under VAG.
First, major kudos for posting a follow-up video to clarify previous discussions comparing 2.5L Turbo and 4.0L NA 718 GTS models. As you summarized, these two variants certainly do offer different driving experiences. One important topic I discovered which probably could be mentioned is the presence of turbo lag with a 2.5L car. After having driven both versions of GTS cars, I noticed that the 2.5L definitely has turbo lag which can only be avoided if kept in Sport+ mode. Demonstrating this point, I performed a simple comparison test which was to cruise at 50mph and then stomp the throttle (which simulates overtaking a slower vehicle on the highway). Doing this test reveals the presence of 2.5L Turbo lag in all modes except Sport+. The issue is probably related to only having a single turbo (whereas the 991.2 and 992 use twin turbos but which are still not identical to a true 991 or 992 Turbo with its twin VTG turbochargers). As a result of my two GTS test drives, I decided on the 2023 718 GTS 4.0 (to avoid the turbo lag issue) and am thoroughly happy with this decision! One final side note, I happen to be a 6'2" tall driver and interestingly have found the 14-way Sport seats are very comfortable on 3+ hour jaunts. To prevent hip discomfort, I set the seat low with slight rear tilt and adjust lumbar for solid lower back support. This appears to work well. Cheers!
Pete, love your videos! I have a GTS 4.0 Boxster and when I watched your comparison video, I thought it was one of the fairest comparisons I had seen. You gave pros and cons to both cars. I felt like the theme was that both cars are great, but different and you nailed it. I was impressed with you being so fair, despite owning one of the cars. I considered a used 2.5 Liter GTS but at the time the used market was so crazy (USA), a new GTS at MSRP (and a long wait) wasn’t a huge difference in price in comparison to a used 2.5 L. At the time, a used GTS 4.0 was pricier than ordering a new one. For the price difference you got, I would have definitely taken the 2.5 L. Stats on the web are contradictory, so don’t beat yourself up. Keep up the good work! Look forward to the upcoming pod casts with Joe Achilles!
When my mate went to do his Driving Test, not only did his old Land Rover have different treads and tyres on each corner, but different wheel sizes. The Tester just giggled and shook his head. "If you can drive THAT you can drive anything"!! Gotta love rural Shropshire/Wales in the late 70/80's. Just watch Harry's vlog from Sunday, all filmed around our area. We had an Alfa 1750 GTV to play with.
“The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything” - Theodore Roosevelt Don’t beat yourself up, you do great, don’t let those negative comments bother you, thanks for all the content.
My biggest take away from the first video was the fun factor of the 2.5 at lower speeds. Let’s face it we don’t live in Germany, most of our fun driving is between 0 & 80 mph Who cares about some unintentional inaccuracies. It’s the enjoyment of the video that counts. 👍👍👍
I drive 4ltr GTS and was really interested in your vid - and the comments it created on here and also in the Porsche GB forums. Great that you’ve made a new vid and sought to explain - I can’t imagine being cameraman, producer, editor and star but you do all that and I wasn’t for second fussed about your findings. You love your car, I love mine…..your video actually made me love mine more 😂 keep em coming !
Respect for the honesty. Tbh the arm chair experts will always pick holes. As an owner of a humble 986 for past 12 years, all I ever get told by my mates and other so called experts, it’s crap. 😅😂😅
I know you get this a lot but you are one of the most humble and personable car personalities on RUclips. I didn’t think you needed to put this video out as everyone is entitled to their own opinion and interpretation of the facts. That is why RUclips is such an engaging platform. Even if the facts aren’t always spot on, the intent to produce honest and quality content is there. If I wanted pinpoint accuracy I’d get an Evo Mag. Take a bow Pete. Great channel!
Pete. Your videos are interesting and informative. They are your observations and points of view on a range of interesting vehicles. I find them very interesting and if there are some occasional errors then “hey that’s life!”.
I have always thought that there was something wrong with me because I have always loved going to a tyre shop to get new tyres fitted, normally on a Saturday morning. I just love the smell of a tyre shop and the feel of the new tyres afterwards. I just love the whole experience.
I find tyres interesting. (Sad ain't i 😅) imagine how much of a car actually touches the road, it's hardly anything. So it's amazing how different quality tyres make such a difference. Would love you to do a video with the cheapest tyres you can get and see how much difference it makes
I think there is far more to tyres than people realise because exactly as you say, they are the only tiny part of the whole vehicle that rests on the road! We had a little citron, C2, VTR and the ride was so bad my wife wouldn’t drive it. In the end I had all four tires replaced for the cheapest alternative I could find and the ride was transformed. My guess is that the original tires were so old they had gone off and hardened in some way.
I feel your pain mate, people always want 0-60 comparisons but it just isn't worth it as there are too many variables for it to be worthwhile. The biggest one of course is that most of the time you aren't in a press car so don't want to do full bore standing starts in cars that do not have race spec flywheels and clutch kits etc. IMO Its more meaningful to do side by side in gear acceleration tests to remove a lot of the variables and keep the stress off the drivetrain.
I agree. And 0-60 is boring. How a car feels on a twisty road is more important for me. If you don't see it on a display, you don't feel a half or even one second difference. All interesting numbers in the pub, not more than that. Pete, i wish you a great journey to Spa and the Nürburgring. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Enjoy the videos. Normal bloke doing normal content about everyday usage of a car. Whether you were inaccurate or not, you corrected yourself. Nothing wrong with that mate.
Hi Pete, I was one of the commenters on your original video as I have a 4.0 GTS on order and was concerned it wouldn't fit me. Hopefully my comment wasn't harsh, it wasn't intended to be. Thanks for the follow up
You have a good way about you as evidenced by addressing your observations of the earlier GTS andGT 4.0., comparison vide. I own a factory spec 2023 CGTS 4.0 (manual). I optioned the 18-way seats - which is my only compliant. They are very comfortable but require electronic adjustment as I like my seat in the in the far back position on entry and exit.
Ultimately if you are happy with the car that’s all that matters. People seem to forget this when watching other people’s videos. I’d rather have the flat six but that’s me.
Pete, forget what other commenter say. They obviously need to get a life if those are their largest issues. Thank you for the videos you've produced over the years. You provided some much needed distraction during covid and i for one am a grateful fan from across the pond
Honesty is the best policy so well done (gave yourself some timeline/editing pressure there!). Tyres - I have 4S tyres on my Kona N. They are totally different to Pirelli P Zero's; better grip, softer tyre wall so more comfort and less road noise, just feel more secure, especially in the wet!
In my GTS if I have the seat reclined a bit more the seat doesn't go as far back. That's the only thing I can come up with as a reason it wouldn't go back further.
Great vid. Real enthusiast who can admit he doesn’t know EVERYTHING and can get it wrong. Like him, I’m looking for 2.5L 718 GTS Cayman for the same reason, 4.0L out of my price range. Never seen a bad review on what yet, and yes, it won’t be six cylinder with a flat 6 tone engine, but being my first Porsche I’ll live with it. But I like the fact 2.5L has better torque so I guess it’s what important to you, and what your budget is.
Don't beat yourself up too much Pete. Your content is superb, that's what matters. You are a very open and honest presenter, many wouldn't worry about apologising, so big thumbs up regardless.
No need to apologise we all make mistakes it’s not that any harm was done to car or human . Don’t beat yourself up over it . Still enjoy your videos. You are a refreshing reviewer that always delivers an entertaining watch .
I commented that I needed the extra leg room - thanks, but got told in the comments you were wrong, I didn’t expect an apology, so many RUclipsrs either ignore you or are quite blunt if not rude so we’ll done, we all make mistakes, it’s how you rectify them that counts, don’t feel bad, feel good for letting us know.
If you go to the Porsche web site and you do the comparison between the two models, when you move the bar over the same picture (specially in 3/4 back), it seems that the position of the steering wheel is different. So maybe, just maybe (can be just adjustment of the steering column) the ergonomics of the cabin is different.
Ped well done another great honest video. Out of curiosity have you tried out another 4Ltr GTS just wondering if it might just be something particular to that actual vehicle when it was manufactured. Enjoy the new set of tyres it’s always a great feeling on the first few drives after they’re fitted.
Haha hilarious, I saw your video and possibly noticed the 0-60 bit but certainly didn’t feel the need to comment. Specs are one thing, real world quite another. Observation from me: I have a GTS 4.0 which was with the dealer last week, they let me have a Panamera 4 e hybrid for the day. On paper the two (considering mine is a manual) should be within 0.1 different to 60. Probably they are. But the difference in the performance in the real world, my goodness, the panamera is a lovely car but of course nothing like as quick as a small, light, little sports car. Specs don’t mean everything!
It's a big man who says he's sorry, but in my view you have nothing to apologise for. Your not a motor journalist, you are an enthusiastic motoring enthusiast. keep up the great videos and ignore the critics.. ...
I cannot believe that you got so much grief!!! I enjoyed it... Was you say, you are a RUclipsr, and we (the public) can view and either agree or disagree.... First world problem I think!! Keep doing your content, thanks!!
If someone was paying a premium to watch your videos then I'd expect them to be pretty much accurate. But we're getting them for free and we learn a lot more truths from them than what we possibly lose with the odd inaccuracy here or there so it's all good. You probably know already but it takes a while for the release agent to wear off new tyres so they're not their best straight away. And I've been told that worn tyres are better in the dry them new ones, which obviously isn't a reason not to swap.
Thanks for the explanations. When listening to the episode in question I had a few doubts but I trusted your general perceptions.A handheld laser measurer from Bosch might be useful. Firstly, having being in a 2009 Boxster, recently I was quite shocked by the lack of space compared to say an e89 Z4, a car also lacking much space for the long legged (and I am average at 181m tall). It is fair to say that an MGB does the job better for larger drivers! Secondly, there is an awful lot of internet waffle about exhaust noise. The reality in Europe, tyres drown out anything that is remotely legal (and you will get pulled over if you make too much racket (motor bikes seem to have exemption though!). Lastly, the smaller Porsche makes very much more sense. It is plenty fast enough and unless you are upto the Nordschleife and Francorchamps in the wet, it is best to keep quiet!
You measured it, you sat in it. It was smaller. That’s more important than what a spec sheet says. The end. Good of you to confront the questions, although you’re not offering car buying advice. As for 0-60 times, you did exactly the right thing: what people do in the real world.
Pete, I think you produce some of the best content about cars on here with a down to earth genuine enthusiasm which we all celebrate you for. We all make mistakes, we are human after all and getting the correct information out there is hard with conflicting information. There are lots of keyboard worriers out there just just want to cause a stir. Learn from this and just move on. I am too fascinated about tyres and how they work and perform so I enjoy Johnathan Benson tyre reviews content.
Hi Pete, due to your statement about having less room for seating in the 4.0 compare to the 2.5 I hesitated to purchase the 6 cylinder for some time. At that point I clould follow your thoughts and considered it to be a very important information. But after having had a deep conversation about that issue, Porsche assured that this is not the case. So last week I ordered one of the very last 4.0 GTS Boxsters and will give away my 991.1 Carrera S Cabrio for the Boxster. Quite a coincidence to get to your video today about some faulty statements of yours ;-) no problem with that, because I really appreciate your effort and your passion and to me it really made sense. A good and comfortable seating position is more important then most of the people might think. So everything went really well for me and I will get my new Boxster 4.0 delivered (one of the very last ones in northern Germany) at the end of April. Aftere that date no 718 will be build with combustor engines anymore. Thank you very much European Union ...
I think I may have seen (on rare occasions), the odd video where I have been suspicious about some of the stats you’ve given but at the end of the day you come across as a genuine and authentic person who has a passion for cars, who cares about their content and if there is the rare error (which can happen to anyone) that appears on a video which is free to consume (and which comes with the disclaimer that it is not professional journalism), who are we to complain about it ? I personally think you’re doing a great job and I love the down to earth nature of this channel.
Beautifully done. It’s always tricky once you start getting into the stats on these cars. New car launches with press teams etc are one thing but doing your own research always throws up contradictory bits and pieces. Great content as always.
or just know cars...there's always that. god for bid a guy trying to make videos for profit fucking knows something, eh? how about stop pretending to be a journalist. thats a good place to start.
The reason launch control starts at mid range is 1st gear doesnt need to be built up from idle and quickly into 2nd. Then even with the best tires can still get slip. 718 is nice and tempting. For me sound is 9/10ths of the law. It adds to the experience as a whole. Induction sounds are amazing in the older turbo cars. Everything is OPF and dialled down with new cars. Overrefined.
Hello Ped, I too have a 2018 GTS and like you, I love it and so much so that more than likely I will end up keeping it. I personally do not have an issue with the sound at all, I am pretty sure I have a std exhaust set up and if anything, mine sounds louder than yours whereas I saw you have an after-market one - would like to try and compare this at some stage given the chance and hopefully prove me wrong. For info, I purchased mine with the PS4S NO already fitted, from the date stamps believe these were the originals and have only just this week changed to a new set after just hitting 18K Miles. Fronts in particular still had plenty of miles in them but I am with you on a performance car needing the correct boots and in good condition especially with our ever changing weather. Very much looking forward to seeing your high speed blast down the Autobahn 🙂 Have a great one.
Peter….your videos are the most honest and worthwhile of all…just a straight description without and form of “acting” or forced style. Your “errors” were very small and easily made despite research. Those who criticised you about the cabin space were at best unhelpful. For whatever reason, that particular car WAS smaller inside as regards driving position so those saying it was not had better be able to prove they were right. Maybe the test car had the seat base wrongly fitted or had been played about with…your legs did not change length so something was wrong with the car. Please do not feel any need to apologise…explain perhaps but you did your very best and those armchair experts had better try making You Tube films..it looks easy but it certainly is not! Many on here are reassuring you so no need for more from me but Peter…you did NOT “mess up”…it was chance and circumstance…and you delivered far more than any keyboard warrior!! New idea!! On Sunday I was at M5 Exeter Services watching the game of musical chairs at the EV Charging station…wrong cables, parked the wrong way around, arguments over who got there first, two chargers didn’t work, door banging as the spaces are narrow…it was hard work watching the situation. Meanwhile at the Tesla chargers…peace, order, simplicity and speed. I hate Tesla cars…I don’t like the Company and the build quality is dreadful but if I bought an EV today, sadly the Tesla is the easy option…they just work. No…I’m not buying one as they look ugly, dreadful interior, awful colours and Friday afternoon build…..but a film made at the Services asking the people who are driving EV’s, what owning one really was like, would be very interesting!! Gorn! Richard…keep going..don’t take warriors to heart!!😬😬😬🫢🫢🫢😀😀😀😀😀
See it all the time on carwow mate, so to do it once it’s good going considering the content you put out weekly, consistently. It probably means more to you as I know this was a video that you spoke about on the podcast, that you were very much looking forward to doing. You probably felt it more because of that too! Keep up the grind! Numbers are HUGE!!!
Great video Pete I admire you for putting your hands up for making some mistakes, you usually are so right about all your information that’s why you are my No 1 char channel 👍🏻
This video here proves what I’ve always said about ya Sir Pete. A genuine guy with a love for cars and subscribers. To admit wrong and correct shows a lot of character. Great Job Sir Pete!!
Well corrected your earlier statements. Furthermore I have to say that it is refreshing to see someone doing acceleration tests without launch contol. First in order to save your own engine but also because these launch control accelerations have nothing to do with everyday driving. Well done.
Pete, please just continue to do what you do so well - honest, enthusiastic and informative videos. So many people appreciate the time and commitment you give to producing consistent quality content - just read the positive comments here and focus on that rather than the minority. Personally you continue to help me in my own quest to purchase my very first Porsche - your enthusiasm is infectious and I can’t wait to become the proud owner of a 718 Cayman.
Fair play. I still wonder if there's some subconscious bias in the mix, BUT credit to you for acknowledging the inaccuracies. It must indeed be a challenge to validate data at times. To be honest I would never have considered that the bulkhead would move between models. Why they felt different, I've no idea, given the same seats, unless the pedal box set up differs; bringing them closer to the seat. Anyway, have fun. Thanks for the enjoyable content👍🏻
Totally support you on the cabin space.... It is clear enough that you measured it every way you could. Why not make that assumption.... it is fair. Cabin space in sports cars is a very important thing. There are tall people and the point you mentioned is valid. They need items like this highlighted. That helps people to look into possible issues. Look at the Audi R8... with its famously small cabin.
That’s not the only things you get wrong…!!! I’ve just got my birthday message telling me I am 100yrs old and want a Nissan Figaro!!! My boys were laughing their heads off!!! - much appreciated 😂
Hi Pete. Thanks for the clarification. No excuse is needed. I respect your huge efforts for making these information and videos available. I enjoy following and watching all of your content.
The PS4S is approved for the 991 but not the 997. OK the tyre sizes are different but I was told that Porsche had just not done any testing on the older car and since that tyre was not available when the car was launched it was unlikely testing would occur. Like you I am not sure if they are any different. However, from experience over the last 2 years the not N rated PS4S tyres are great.
The seat is visibly lower in the 4 litre car. Compare the bulkhead / headrest measures. So maybe if you increase the seat height it will go further back?!
Hi Pete, apologies if someone else had already suggested re seating: 18/14 way electric vs 2-way manual adjustment changes how low a seat can go (I assume electronics in the way?) Do you recall if the seats were different?
Hi Pete no one is perfect, and as oyu say when under pressure that is when things go wrong. With cars like those you have to feel comfortable in them to get the best out of them. You always say it as it is no hidden agenda.
Great video and great honesty! I tried to speak to you last weekend at Goodwood members meet but every time you came into the great hall I was singing outside. I just wanted to tell you that I love your videos and to thank you for your content! Maybe next year at the 81st 👍🏼 Thanks and keep ‘em coming Stuart
Replaced oem Continental Contact 6 tyres on my Honda Civic Type R GT FK8 with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres. Continental tyres were replaced at 15.5k miles still with 3mm tread depth due to a slow puncture in edge of a tyre. The Michelins cost about £30/tyre more than the Contis but worth the money due to the Michelins giving a more comfortable ride, less road noise, no chunk chunk when manoeuvring in cold weather & they slightly increase weight of steering effort when in comfort mode which I prefer.
I’m more interested in the 2.5 GTS or even S now having seen a couple of videos on them. Preferably the PDK too, think it suits that engine better. I haven’t driven either but I thought that might be the case, probably 90% of the time the 2.5 is as good as.
Nice channel cabin size experienced similar I'm tall 6,5 the newer boxster might well have same size by volume but slight changes in design can alter the layout without altering cabin size by volume - if you tall - or just shall we say wide/unfit it is noticeable, elbows might touch door when didn't before etc It is not imagined. I find older 911s more spacious but newer variants have airbags, insulation and seat padding it all adds up.
Good on you for making this video, as a non sports car owner either of the two cars are gems on the road , looking forward to some autobahn driving in the GTS 😊
You’re one of my go to reviewers who i can rely on for a genuine heart felt opinion rather than a jeremy wannabe. Keep the content coming, some of the best around
I just watched the video before. I'm glad to hear the interior space is the same after all. ❤ I bought a GTS4 yesterday! I couldn't decide between a new Boxster and a new Boxster S. The logical answer is then a used GTS. 😁 Does your GTS25 have an Otto particle filter (OPF)?
As you said, you are an enthusiast rather than a journalist so I wouldn’t beat yourself up about inaccuracies. I have the 4L Spyder so I’m surprised you didn’t gel with the GTS 4L. Porsche tend to always go forward in their development of models. One thing I would say is that after initially buying the Spyder in January I was not that impressed. However, now on Cup 2s and with the roof down on sunny days, it is an epic experience!
Hi Pete, I have watched bundles of your video’s now and can I say just keep up the good work, I have to confess that I am collecting my GTS 4.0 in Arctic Grey the second week in June. I called Porsche to ask if the cabin size was different and they were not aware, can I just say thank goodness as I, like you, am 6’4. So looking forward to the new car, got the experience day on Thursday at Silverstone and it will be the first time in the 4 ltr ( currently in a 981 ). Can I also say your post on insurance was brilliant, I had the devil of a getting mine insured as I don’t have a garage or gates at my house. I have got L & V lined up but will give you guys a call for a sanity check. Any how, there are enough moaners out there, keep up the good work, there are loads more of us that really appreciate your honest thoughts and delivery Cheers
@@gedknowles . Hi Ged, I placed my order from Reading Porsche back in October 21, so a total of about 19 months until I receive the finished article. Whilst I currently have a 981 , it was bought from an independent garage, so I have no history with the main dealer and I know this goes a long way to shortening the queue. I expect to keep the GTS for a little while but I hope that when I do consider changing, my history may help me a rung or two up the ladder. Anyway good luck with your order, having now had the experience day, I now know that it is a truly astonishing car!
@@richardkew6801 Thanks for your reply That’s interesting about having history with the dealer. I have a 987 which has had some services with them. Best of luck with your car!
Wow, an honest person on social media...amazing! You don't understand how much your honesty will help me in making my next car buying decision, so ignore all the nay sayers and be happy you told the truth . I have a 2014 Boxster and am in the process of deciding what to get next. I'm also tall (6' 3") so your concerns about cabin size caught my attention. I'm considering the Boxster GTS 4.0, 2.5 and 911 Cabriolet. The 911 seems over priced to me and I don't like the hump back look. So it's down to the 4.0 vs. 2.5 and I have to say the pure sound of the 4.0 is hard to beat, but I will now check out the comfort based on your observation, thank you!
Don't beat yourself up about it Pete, we're all human and make mistakes from time to time. What matters is you learn from the experience. If anyone says they've never made mistakes, I wouldn't believe them. Could probably be down to your footwear at the time (I'm sure you don't need to wear any Cuban's). As 911's have grown from owning a 993, where you sat slightly offset due to the wheel arch in the way of the accelerator pedal. They may even have change the position of the seat runners so that you sit slightly more forward in the 4ltr as opposed to your 2.5ltr. I won't insult you when I say a 'centralised seating position/ weight distribution in the cabin area'. Anyway enjoy the Euro run and have a blast.!. 👍👍
Top man for the honest update, it's easy to get the wrong end of the stick with some of the incorrect and confusing information out there on the web. You should frame those French Pirelli tyres, more expensive than a lot of art. Good move on the PS4S, we had two sets on our 981 after the Pirellis cracked badly, we are waiting to get the new P Zeros replaced. You will need to do a few miles to properly bed in the Michelins. Enjoy your videos, even more so for your honesty.
Pete, your videos are fantastic mate. What people have to realise is that you are an enthusiast not a specialist and quite often the content is your view and not an absolute science so don't beat yourself up over it. I for one will continue to enjoy your uploads as always.
Absolutely couldn't have said it better.
Spot on.
Get a room perverts
Yep,well said!
Totally agree with you. Unfortunately, many Porsche purists are rather pedantic.
Yeah, this. We're all human, everyone makes mistakes.
It's said that even Germans make mistakes. About one mistake per decade.
Sounds like some on the internet don’t have enough to worry about.
Good stuff Pete, as always.
All credit for putting your hand up to a couple of errors. Anybody who never made a mistake never made anything.
👍
I think it was really cool that you revisited the video and addresses the inaccuracies. Personally, I would limit the facts and figures and focus upon your own feeling about, and assessment of, the car. I can easily find out the weight or 0-60 but I cannot find out how good the lights are for example without driving the car at night, something most testers completely overlook. Well done, I applaud your integrity.
👍
I had a 4cyl 718 Boxster S 2.5L and it was a brilliant bit of kit. I now own a 911 but if I had the money I would still have the 718 too. Obviously very different cars in there own right but equally enjoyable to drive.
Another point to mention on the tyres, when I bought the 911 it had P zeros, I went to Snetterton and had a great day ragging them out and a week later fitted PS4S, it’s night and day how much better they are 👍. Love the channel Ped
Thanks Simon 👍
I haven’t owned a Porsche yet but might be in the market for one soon. As you say, different cars but with your experience … new 718 Cayman S or 2nd hand 991 3.0 T (preferably S or 4S if Funds allowed!)
It’s difficult, as a brand new car is always nice, but thinking you get the best of both with a 911, the flat 6 and ooodles of torque. Residuals probably better than a new Cayman 4 pot too?
@@Travelling-Byland ah really, are you looking for something different now? Unfortunately I don’t have the means just yet. My mortgage will be paid off in a couple of months, then another few to clear current car loan and I’ll be ready!!
@@NickG24 looking at options. Good time to clear your mortgage. 👍
👍
Nicely said by a Porsche model owner.. Real world experience. ..
Dunna worry about it mate, life's way too short and some people just have much too much time on their hands.
Onwards and upwards...
Ive been watching you since you had less than 6,000 subscribers , I can remember you got so excited when you got to 10,000
First, major kudos for posting a follow-up video to clarify previous discussions comparing 2.5L Turbo and 4.0L NA 718 GTS models. Cheers!
👍
“The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything” - Theodore Roosevelt
Don’t beat yourself up, you do great, don’t let those negative comments bother you, thanks for all the content.
My biggest take away from the first video was the fun factor of the 2.5 at lower speeds.
Let’s face it we don’t live in Germany, most of our fun driving is between 0 & 80 mph
Who cares about some unintentional inaccuracies.
It’s the enjoyment of the video that counts. 👍👍👍
Thanks bud 🙏🏻
80 😱
Thanks mate 👍
Pete. Your videos are interesting and informative. They are your observations and points of view on a range of interesting vehicles. I find them very interesting and if there are some occasional errors then “hey that’s life!”.
👍
I have always thought that there was something wrong with me because I have always loved going to a tyre shop to get new tyres fitted, normally on a Saturday morning. I just love the smell of a tyre shop and the feel of the new tyres afterwards. I just love the whole experience.
It’s kind of like Ben Elton and his famous skit on new shoes. New tyres are just new shoes for your car!
😂😂😂
Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Pete, I was one of the commenters on your original video as I have a 4.0 GTS on order and was concerned it wouldn't fit me.
Always love your work Pete. No need to apologize. People need to calm down.
👍
Hi do you have PTV (LSD) in Gts ? Thx 🤙
Pete, forget what other commenter say. They obviously need to get a life if those are their largest issues. Thank you for the videos you've produced over the years. You provided some much needed distraction during covid and i for one am a grateful fan from across the pond
What you experienced was subconscious bias. We all do it. Great video and good to see you made the corrections.
Thanks 🙏🏻
No need to apologise we all make mistakes it’s not that any harm was done to car or human . Don’t beat yourself up over it . Still enjoy your videos. You are a refreshing reviewer that always delivers an entertaining watch .
👍
Me too 😂
This is the internet, an apology? Refreshing! Good vid Ped. Keep up the great work.
👍
👍
Just wondering and hope I didn't just miss it, is there an answer to the cabin size / seating postion conondrum by now?
Cabin size is the same. Must have been seat set up but I still don’t really know 😢
Pete, I think you produce some of the best content about cars on here with a down to earth genuine enthusiasm which we all celebrate you for.
🙏🏻
👍
or just know cars...there's always that. god for bid a guy trying to make videos for profit fucking knows something, eh? how about stop pretending to be a journalist. thats a good place to start.
Very much looking forward to seeing your high speed blast down the Autobahn 🙂
Have a great one.
Yeah, but that guy is really funny, isn't he...😐
😂😂😂
Fair play for admitting where you got things wrong, many wouldn’t hold their hands up.
We feel your pain! 🫣
Love the comparison, one that does not do anything makes no mistakes!
Great video Pete I admire you for putting your hands up for making some mistakes, you usually are so right about all your information that’s why you are my No 1 char channel 👍🏻
Thanks 🙏🏻
This video here proves what I’ve always said about ya Sir Pete. A genuine guy with a love for cars and subscribers. To admit wrong and correct shows a lot of character. Great Job Sir Pete!!
👍
Love the Michelin Pilot 4s. Changed over both my cars to them and they were a serious upgrade to previous tyres on the cars
Top Tip, take a torque wrench and check the wheel nut torque is to factory spec just before you go for a high speed run on the autobahn
Please solve the cabin space mystery if you can get hold of the press car again 👍
Evening all! Hope everyone is doing well and has a great week.
Pete
You are still one of the best if not the best
Thank you for everything
Tim
👍
🙏🏻
Your comparison video was great. This video is great! ........ joys of getting into details about a car that we love!
Thanks 🙏🏻
That’s not the only things you get wrong…!!!
I’ve just got my birthday message telling me I am 100yrs old and want a Nissan Figaro!!!
My boys were laughing their heads off!!! - much appreciated 😂
Mate, we are only human when all said and done. Don’t worry about it, was still a great video at the end of the day. 👍🇬🇧
Cheers Bud 👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
The seat is visibly lower in the 4 litre car. Compare the bulkhead / headrest measures. So maybe if you increase the seat height it will go further back?!
Hi Pete, apologies if someone else had already suggested re seating: 18/14 way electric vs 2-way manual adjustment changes how low a seat can go (I assume electronics in the way?) Do you recall if the seats were different?
Seats were exactly the same 👍
@@PetrolPed The plot thickens...
Thanks for replying.
Maybe next year at the 81st 👍🏼
Thanks and keep ‘em coming
Stuart
Oh wow. You guys were great 👍
Replaced oem Continental Contact 6 tyres on my Honda Civic Type R GT FK8 with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres.
It definitely is 👍
Nice channel cabin size experienced similar I'm tall 6,5 the newer boxster might well have same size by volume but slight changes in design can alter the layout without altering cabin size by volume - if you tall - or just shall we say wide/unfit it is noticeable, elbows might touch door when didn't before etc It is not imagined.
Hope you enjoy it!
Any how, there are enough moaners out there, keep up the good work, there are loads more of us that really appreciate your honest thoughts and delivery
Cheers
Hi Richard - I have a 4.0 on order (from Nov 2023) - how long ago did you order your car?
@@gedknowles . Hi Ged, I placed my order from Reading Porsche back in October 21, so a total of about 19 months until I receive the finished article. Whilst I currently have a 981 , it was bought from an independent garage, so I have no history with the main dealer and I know this goes a long way to shortening the queue. I expect to keep the GTS for a little while but I hope that when I do consider changing, my history may help me a rung or two up the ladder. Anyway good luck with your order, having now had the experience day, I now know that it is a truly astonishing car!

Thanks for your reply
That’s interesting about having history with the dealer. I have a 987 which has had some services with them.
Best of luck with your car!
Fair play to you Pete. It takes big balls to admit you’ve made a couple of errors. Still love the videos though. Keep going.
Good evening pal, I’ve been super busy, so I’m grabbing a catch up with you. 👍👍🇬🇧
I try my best 👍
No worries here Pete....honest mistakes. You do great work and I appreciate the effort!
Thanks 👍
Good on you for being honest about your errors & enjoy your trip away to Europe.
🙏🏻
Did you get the wheel alignment checked when the tyres were fitted? the rears looked quite unevenly worn.
