How To Restore A Weber Kettle | Weber Kettle Restoration

- In this video I go over how to restore a weber kettle! The Kettle I use is a plum "DD" code which I actually picked up a few weeks prior to shooting this video. The Kettle was only a few houses down. This kettle I restore was kept outside and not used much at all but I do think that the previous owner may have planted flowers in it at some point. The restoration method I use is the same technique I use to do a deep cleaning of all my other kettle as well so if you have a kettle that needs a good cleaning you can use this method. As always I really appreciate you watching and let me know if you have any further questions!

One of the best restoration vids on youtube thanks man
No problem! And thank you I appreciate that!
I just tried the Maker's Mark cleaner today on my Weber kettle and it is amazing. Thanks for the tip! I am now subscribed.
Good job bringing it back to life. Best grill ever made right there.
Thanks Ryan! Couldn’t agree more!
Excellent video. Basically same process I follow to do an annual deep clean on my Weber Performer. Well maybe every two years. Weber Kettle’s forever!
Woah nice job cleaning it up! Looks almost brand new!
Thank you sir!
Man that looks so good! I found a 22 inch kettle for 40$ on the marketplace! Can’t wait to restore it.
Thanks! And heck ya! What color? Age?
Elbow grease is the best cleaner I’ve ever found in my 63 years of life well done youngster
Nicely done Brian!
Thanks Chief!
Man that’s my dream kettle it turned out beautiful brother, I’m as meticulous about mine too, a clean well maintained grill says a lot about the guy who owns it
Thanks man! A clean kettle is a happy kettle
For the scraping get yourself a piece 6 inch x 6 inch aluminum flashing or any thin bendable metal. Works like a charm.
Congratulations on the nice plum. And good job on the restore. Very good video.
Thanks @Jon I appreciate that! 🍻
Great video and nice job! Keep the handles…they keep it authentic and make it that much cooler. You sound just like your dad. Thx!
Excellent job.
I subbed when you busted out a bottle opener to scrape the bowl.
Thanks Buford! Anything is a scraper if you try hard enough lol.
That is a real beauty! Nice job and thanks for sharing.
Thanks!! And you bet!
Nice restoration job, really good work restoring that plum beauty!
Beautiful, I actually enjoy keeping mine clean
Thanks sir!
Looks fabulous!!!!! Good restoration!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks IZZY! 🍻🍻
Great video bro, love the kettle! Awesome colour 🤙🏻
Hey thanks Ben! You’ll have to get yourself a plum now!
I've done a few of these restos chucked the hubcap purchased the gold ash catcher when they where cheap. Tip for the third leg is a rubber tip from a crutch at a local pharmacy. Thanks
Not a bad idea! Thanks for watching!
Really cool color and man does that look slick and shiny after a few hours of cleanup! Great neighborhood find Seth! Have a great weekend brother!
Thanks Charley! I was really happy with the way it turned out! You have a good weekend yourself Mr Nantz!
@@MadHorseBBQ 🤣
Had great low effort cleaning the hardened grease using a propane torch followed with a wire brush
There ya go!!
Nice find 👍. That’s a cool color.
Thanks Michael! And the plum is so cool! Looks brown from a distance and the closer you get the more plum it looks.
Really nice job!!
Thanks Justin!
A friend of mine called me and told me that there was an 18” Weber free at the place he does yard maintenance. He asked me if I wanted it, I said yes. It’s a plum from 2000 like the one you have. They were not as nice to it as the folks you got yours from. It has a lot of chips in the porcelain, but I got it to shine and am going to use it lovingly. Just need to get an ash catcher. I think I will order the one for the premium.
Nice! That’s an awesome find! I didn’t know they made the plum in an 18”.
Cool job buddy 👍
Thank you!
Well done. I’m impressed the ash sweep blades are still good. I bought the cherry commemorative kettle maybe 5 years ago and they are already warped. I’m guessing maybe the high heat does it, I use lump charcoal maybe 95% of the time. I got the replacement kit, just been procrastinating.
Thanks tony! And ya you’re probably right! And that’s too bad sorry to hear that.
Great vid.....I restore the gassers.....Yep a razor blade does the trick on the inside of the hoods and I liked your hood gloss product but if you run out try Mr Clean Clean Freak one time.....then buff with clean micro fiber towel....great shine!
Will do! And thanks!!
Love the video. I drink Busch, not Busch light, but that's ok... I have a Weber grill my Dad got from the Chrysler dealer when he bought his car new in 1978, still going strong! Just bought a couple of new grates, and ready to give it a deep clean. It will be passed down to my son... he's just going to have to wait..
That’s awesome!! What color is it?
@@MadHorseBBQ basic black.
Nice job, ready for ribs! Ok, I saw your cooking pics today.....love these kettles.
Thanks! The rib picture you saw does have a video for it. If it’s not up next week it’ll be up the week after.
Easy Off work pretty good!
Nice! I’ll have to give it a shot on my next one.
Good work on bringing it back to life.
I bought a new Weber mastertouch last year and the lip of the bowl is showing signs of rust already, gutted they started making them in china... not worth a f**k now.
Thank you very much! I’d call or email Weber. They stand by there product and I bet you they would warranted the lid.
nice
Thanks!
Bad ass !!!!
Thanks Robert! The plum is really cool!
Use car waxx and polish it I use it on my weber grills and works perfect for restoring the paint
Thanks for the video! I just salvaged a candy apple red 18" kettle and it needs some TLC. Any suggestions on how to fix the enamel coloring? There's one spot on mine that's worn away and is black instead of red, with a noticeable divot on the lid.
You bet and that’s awesome! Nice find! And I don’t have a good way to fix that. I have a 95 apple red 22” that’s has some spots like that but it’s dang near 30 years old so kinda comes with the territory.
Great video! Do you think it would be possible to install a lid bail on an original Kettle?
Thanks! And I think they actually sell kits. To do that.
OK - Just found this video on the restoration. The one I scored has to be from the 70's. How can I tell the mfg date?
How doesn't the steel wool scratch the outside?
How would you clean rust from the around the edge of the bowl? How bout rusty grates?
Hmmm I don’t know if you can clean the rust from the bowl and as far as grates I’d just buy new grates
@@MadHorseBBQ thank you! Do you clean your grates regularly after cooks at all?
@@jon1268 I just use a grill brush and brush them off after every cook.
That must have been before they went to aluminum for ask sweep.
Only downside of aluminum nowadays is have to be careful with easy off heavy duty on aluminum. Same with that cleaner you're using. I assume because it's an acid it just fills the aluminum by it oxidizing the aluminum. 🤷🏻♂️
All you did was wash it..😄
Lol thanks!
lost me at metal scraper
Ok
Good job mate!
If you ever make it to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, I'll let you buy me a beer.
Haha thanks! And will do!
