I have a hunch who ever assembled that performer attached the piece for ash basket had it turned. When you dissemble and put the rustoleum on you can spin that for easier operation.
Nice job on the kettle. I'm looking for the spools that are on the lid holder. One was missing when I bought my performer used, but sure do like to cook on that thing. Best $100 bucks I ever spent, and I've still got one eye on FB looking for the next one or whatever pops up. Going to start on another offset with some old water heaters I've got lying around.
