    Mind blown! It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here and I was about to disassemble my system and try bending them flush again so I can grill burgers this afternoon. Buddy, I owe you a cold one. Saved me a lot of time and probably headache. Thanks so much for this video.

  • @RonOnTheGrill

    Awesome, man! Mine are doing the same thing. Not only does that bend affect their ability to sweep all the dust out, but it affects their ability to regulate temperature! I found that my grill wouldn't hold temp as well because air was getting under the blades. It even affects the grill's ability to snuff out coals after the cook, which normally happens pretty quickly.
    I was about to try to take mine apart but I was pretty sure that little pin would break or something. I don't have any shims but I'm sure I'll be able to find something I can use. Thanks again!

      Kettles are AMAZING! My kettle from the 70's preforms just as good as a brand new one. What other grill / bbq can do that?

  • @HellYeahKimballsBBQ
    @HellYeahKimballsBBQ 4 года назад +1

    The kettles are for sure dust magnets, I just rinse my lid off with water but when the snow starts to fly, I wipe them down with a rag and some citrus safe. Cheers, and I didn't think the shim would work but you did it.

  • @ToddNormanE
    @ToddNormanE 3 года назад

    My charcoal kept burning out to ash. I was 90% certain it was the fins. I cleaned and tried your method and it worked pretty well, still some gap. However my grill was now so clean I took ~7 mins to twist the handle off and pull the fins and perform an exaggerated bend of the fins and put it back together. Again less than 10 minutes. FYI, this is the first time in nearly 20 years I’ve had to do this for my performer. Weber makes greats kettles!

    I hesitate to take a razor to the kettle. Frankly, there's also an issue of the central bit of the cleaning system getting gunky. If you're going to do a once a year cleaning, I'd prefer to take it completely apart, load it with degreaser, and hit it with a brush. Repeat one additional time in case of extra junk, and hit it with the hose. Having done that, we basically have a partially disassembled grill. Having disassembled the cleaning system, we have an expectation that, when reassembled, it'll rotate better. That said, if you're just unbending them, I've seen a similar trick with something like a nail as a pivot, rather than a shim.
