thank you for being the only woman on youtube who will actually demonstrate how to use a safety blade and not just talk about it!
ive watched like 5 or 6 other videos of women on youtube demonstrating how to use a safety blade razor .........
I know I hate clicking on those other videos.
Julie D oh I couldn’t find any, they were all just saying how to using not actually demonstrating lmao
@UCuhQYL7IPnePSbPnCfxXlyQ i also coudnt find anyone demonstrates you idiot
For those with thicker hair. Shave in the direction of hair growth first, reapply your shaving lotion and then shave against the direction of hair growth.
Leafeco i use a safety razor i love it no more plastic razors for me
Leafeco
And a video of how you shave the armpits??
2 Pass for body, pubic/Bikini and underarms
Shave with the grain and shave against the grain
I love these people with principles like zero waste, minimalism, organic, cruelty free.
@@MechanicalKitty True! 👍❤
It's a privilege to be able to do these things though.
Hello there, I am glad more people are wet shaving using real safety razors. that being said, in the spirit of helping and not criticizing....please do not ever wipe your blade after use. wiping your blade dry after use only makes you run the risk of cutting yourself at the expense of ruining your blade's edge. So what you end up is with a crappy shave. so how do you prevent rust? simple. just shake dry and change the blade every three days. the blades are cheap enough so 3 days and toss it in your jar . Most are stainless steel so they will take a long time to rust anyway. With your Astras that is 300 shaves for 10 USD! this way you also always have a sharp blade. to remove soap scum use a tiny bit of toothpaste and a toothbrush bought specifically for this task. scrub lightly inside and out and rinse to a brand new clean. Oh and for the "nether regions" use a brand new blade always and toss after only one use. Why? to prevent cross contamination.
Gil Oro does wiping your blade really ruin your blade? I only wipe right now, I have a 1920’s ronson razor with a leather strop on the back and I’m scared of ruining it with a lot of water
Safety is priority. Under no circumstance should used blades be composted, recycled or thrown in the waste. The most responsible method is using a sharps container, which can be purchased at a local grocer or pharmacy. Each container comes with manufacturers return instructions for proper and safe disposal.
Andrew thank you! Safety razors have so many benefits but I didn’t know what to do with used razors.
so I guess not only are they better for the environment but also cheaper long term?
I just received mine today and in the description it said that one blade will only cost about 10-20 Cents so yeah it should me much cheaper and long lasting!
E T E R N A L mine saved me money in a few months, because blades are only steel they're way cheaper
yes, and they give you a closer shave!
yes a LOT . 5 years ago I bought a bundle: safety razor, a pack with 50 bic blades, the sensitive skin shaving cream and brush. it was between 5/10$. The only thing you need to buy regularly is the cream but even that is like what 2/4$ and for me lasts for 7 full body shaves.
On ebay you can get 100 blades for around £10 UK price but watch out what blades you get the blades are really designed for mens shaving and there are loads of different types and brands biginners blades and blades for experts which are super sharp
Safety razor blades are never recycled, as they are too thin and hazardous to go through the process. Best option for disposal is to use a derby international safety disposal case. These are used by hospitals. Once you are done using your blade, just throw it into the case. Once completely filled up, hand it over to your nearest pharmacy. They will dispose of it correctly.
Good to know! Do you get this case at the pharmacies as well?
@@spider.monkey.ninja.assassin They are available online. Amazon gives you 3 for a pretty good price. It takes a long time to fill one up
www.amazon.com/Sharps-Disposal-Container-OakRidge-Products/dp/B01CUXWUB6
@@spider.monkey.ninja.assassin or you can also buy them individually. Make sure you don't close the lid until you fill up the entire box. As once you close the lid you can't open it again.

Thanks! :)
Thank you. I was wondering about the disposal aspect of using one of these razors.
I was using my safety razor for the first time and I pressed down too hard and I have about a 1-inch cut where I scraped the skin off and it won't stop bleeding be careful about your pressure because you can't put the same amount of pressure on a safety razor as you do a disposable razor I just found that out the hard way
Sunny Days thank you for sharing
I had the same injury with my first shave ever - with a disposable :)
Just use the weight of the razor. I don’t know about yours but mine is very weighty, don’t push at all. 🙂
Apply little to no pressure, that’s how to use a safety razor properly
Me too... me pasó lo mismo 😭
Finally a video with tutorial and no blabbering!! Thankyoooouuu
You can also use watered down vinegar to clean the razor (and the rest of the bathroom and kitchen 😂)
Still not sure i could pull off Zero Waste but create less waste yes! Ive been thinking about one of these for a while and your vid was the best i found. Thanks!
You can its bang for a buck razor come from metal/stainless steel and can be recycled. Go for astra blade bang for a buck quantity with quality like goldilocks zone just nice sharp razor blade
I'm just making the switch! keeping disposables as I only ever fly with hand luggage and you cannot fly with safety razor blades. Great video
I LOVED YOUR INTRO OMG
Dat 50s vibe thooo ❤️❤️❤️
Great review thank you! 😊
Thank you for actually demonstrating how to do this. Concise and helpful. Took forever to find a how-to video that actually showed it instead of giggling, self aggrandizing, waving the razor without doing anything useful with it, and vomiting one's boring ass life story.
In the UK you can recycle them out them in a tin and then to your local recycling centre they are compacted up with all the other metals
Hi again awesome video I've been using safety razor for years now they work better that disposable ones... keep the videos coming chicka!!!
I adore my saftey razor. Probably sound a bit strange for saying that aha!! Thanks for stopping by! You are awwwwesome!
Leafeco no you are awesome....
I just got mine and i love it. Its as easy to use as my old one but no plastic and its way more affordable! I would recommend it to anyone.
I'm glad you love it! Im still using the same razor and pack of blades i bought 5 year ago now
Reminds me of when I was a young girl and always borrowed my fathers without his permission I’m getting one Thankyou
You could place your old blades in an empty clean Altoids tin. :D
Sailor Girl I thought of that too! But altoids are sold with plastic around it arent they? :/
True, but I have a few that are about 10 years old and have used them for many other purposes. I find myself looking at all plastics now. It's crazy how much is out there.
Great video and very informative. But please turn the music down even more when you’re talking.
Thank you for the video! Used my first safety razor for the first time this morning and your video took the fear away
Awe video! Purchased my first safety razor today.
I file my blades down before disposing of them, that way I dont have to worry about labelling it.
LustyBear how do you do that/how long does it take?
Every video I have watched so far, including a gentleman from executive shaving (m.ruclips.net/video/ps88RU_BXlA/видео.html), is to shave in short strokes. You can not shave in longstrokes like a traditionally Gillette razor! It doesn't pivot to contour with your body so keep that in mind. Watch the RUclips video from Executive Shaving to see a professional, who's job is shaving with safety razors. Just because hes shaving his face doesn't mean women can't learn how to shave other parts of their body properly from his example.
I am using a safety razor for my face since last ten years....my face has thanked me ever since ....
Does anybody know if the wax paper the blades come wrapped in, recyclable..?
Generally paper coated with anything isn't recyclable.. But if it's more or less natural wax, it should compost
Super helpful tips! So excited to try out my new razor! Thanks 😀
Thumbs Up Your Legs Turned Out Smooth as Fine Silk 😎👍🏼 I’ve Been Shaving With a Double Edge Safety Razor For Years
I have found that if you use a towel it can keep your hands from getting cut from the sides of the blades. Also, what kind of razor kit is that? I like the case!
Jason U the case says “Jagen David” on it.
This was a really helpful review and demo!! Thanks
Excellent advice and video!
This was very helpful! Thank you so much
2 years in. Happy
Definitely the best video on this I’ve seen, thank you!
You should get a sample pack and try different blades, the astra platinums in this video are unusable for me, they cut my courser hair follicles so I end up being covered in blood using them. Personna work for me as well as shark blades
Great video, thank you so much for uploading!! You've converted me!
I love your Lags
I don't do much for the environment but I make small changes like using a menstrual cup and now this safety razor.
Hey small changes equal big results, thank you for doing what you do
I’m too scared to use these so I just sugar wax 😂
My mom said that she used to use this type of razor but they got rusted , any advice on that ?
ishita murali I had the same problem! The best solution is to keep the razor out of the bathroom when you aren't using it. Steam = rust. And dry it after every use or do what I did in the video- dip it in a cup of rubbing alcohol
Awesome video, really useful, thank you!
thatoldseadawg |-/
I could no see any leg hair🤔
thank you for this !! I am not so scared to use one now ! how long does a blade usually last you ? to bad they wont ship this product to the USA . :(
You can google safety razors and find plenty of options. I live in the U.S. and just bought one.
I used a safety razor for the first time and cut a huge gash in my leg. Im so scared to try again
So will you be going to a mug and brush too??
I noticed you have straberry legs like me, doesn't the safety razor help with that?
While you should store blades safely (and for that it would be better to get a can of chicken stock, cut a slit in it, empty it out and then go through the slog of cleaning it without otherwise opening the can, or get a container made for them which are reasonably cheap), you _should not_ recycle them unless you are _absolutely sure_ it is okay to do so in your area. Call the sanitation dept. or company first. If the blades come loose from that can (like it opening in transit), they can harm the workers sorting recycling later.
Most regions will just say it should go in the landfill, though you could find someplace that takes sharps (even a local pharmacy _might_ do it because they usually have sharps disposal programs) if you're concerned about the environment and potentially harming wildlife.
Maybe should have watched this video first instead of just going for it... Had skin stuck in mine twice, but hey there is a lot of room for me to improve, I can only get better from where I'm at right now 😅
Have u heard about leaf shave the sell good safety razors that pivot
Hey Leafeco, Take a look a the Leaf Razor that use safety razors. They have a swivel head and use multiple blades like a plastic cartridge without the plastic. I love mine!
You are so cute! Thank you for the vid!!
are the results better with a safety razor than with a disposable?
That's what I've heard time and time again
Yeah, I just got mine but its as least as good if not better
how long does every blade lasts?
I'm averaging close to 3 months per blade
Leafeco thanks :) I'm about to get mine and forece everyone I care about to get one
3 months wtf they last like 3-6 uses
mine last about 6-7 uses before they cut my face i do not recommend using the blade 3 months at a time i have been wet shaving for several years. i dont know about womens legs but i wouldnt risk it.
Leafeco 3 months? I think at 3 months that blade is going to be disgustingly rusty. DE blades are so cheap that I use a new one each shave.
I would never recommend using a blade for 3 month. Take this advice from a man that uses DE razer daily.
i use a hairdryer to dry the safety razor
Thanks.
You just save me money from buyi g sunny razors.
my pleasure!
We all should do that
Great video, so glad I found your channel 🤗 How do you dispose of the the individual wax coated paper wrappers that the blades come in?
you can compost them
My dad used that type of razer.lol
That's a compliment right? 😅
Love this video!!!
my grandfather uses one of these... now a woman is using it... why the hell I'm not using it.
Haha! I still use my that I bought 5 years ago and the same pack of blades
So where do you take the used Blades ?We have Recyclable Garbage cans in front of the Apt. building but not sure is it safe to Depose the used Blades there ? Good Video 👍👍👍
I wouldnt recommend it.. I'm not too sure whats around you but I'm sure if you google "sharp disposal near me" something will come up! Contact your building and if they say its safe to do so id still recumbent disposing them in some sort of container, good luck!
You should ask the city or company picking-up that recycling. Most will say landfill. Blades can get caught in recycling machines, or seriously injure the workers sorting through recycling (the container might get crushed or opened in transit).
You can use this or something like it to store safely: www.amazon.com/Feather-Blade-Disposal-Case/dp/B004LDEISW
Cans with a slit at the top do work just as well.
Awesome!! :3. Thank you so much :D
Aluminium doesn't rust. The blades are actually surgical stainless steel, that rusts.
Aluminium oxidizes a white layer which hardens it.
how come coconut oil is not sustainable in the uk?i wouldnt use coconut oil cause its comedogenic and clogs pores
Idk why she specifically mentioned the uk, but overall, coconut is in such high demand that a lot of deforestation happens just to have enough space to grow the trees. Also, I think the trees take a lot of water to grow? Anyway, coconuts arent evil, but often they arent grown in the best ways.
Search for “DE razor sharpener” for a true 0 waste.
how long does a blade last? or you just change them when they feel dull
When you feel dull it's time to change. Or if you see razor blade starting to form rust colour change as well. Periodly it's between 5-15 days and 6-15 shaves
We have the Dane razor!
Do you shave down there? Any tips? Tips welcome from any ladies who shave down there! Thx
Bikini area you can shave except pubic area like men balls they don't. Best use three blade leaf razor for that, but not the pubic area on balls then DE works
I love my double edge safety razor.. I will never go back to the cartridges and disposables again...
Is the wax paper compostable?
Depends if the wax paper made with petroleum-based is not suitable then. However if it's made of vegetable oil or soybean natural ingredients, then yes it will take a long time to compost
But most of them deviated from petroleum-based product and it's very common. So I suggest you should not just discard, throw it away don't worry about it. Then they put razor blade mineral oil to smoothen and prevent rusting
Do you have a razor recommendation for those of us in the US? The razor you have linked only shipps to the UK.
ATHRENTHE2ND apparently Merkur is supposed to be amazing! Saw some of my stateside friends talking about it lol.
I have a van der Hagen razor and I found mine at a local Kroger in the men’s section with the other men’s razors, they also had shave soaps and extra razor packs and my razor was a little less than $20
The astra blades she has are available online. Just not with that link. Use the search bar for astra blades on Amazon
I saw a recommendation among my friends and followed it - got a weishi nostalgic long handle for $15 on amazon
I tried my new safety razor for the first time today and I had a traumatic experience. I used it exactly like this with coconut oil and I still was covered in razor burn. I came to RUclips to see if I did something wrong but it doesn't seem like it.
It's all in the angle, slow movement, taught skin. I've had a couple of injuries over the ankle and knee if I don't keep the skin tight
I. LOVE. Your. Accent. 😁
Body hair isn't gross. Why you gotta add to that crazy idea?
Thanks for the video, tho :)
You speak like Hermione. Wingardium Leviosa.
That was catacoil watching that and you are beautiful
Invest in a straight razor. Once you learn to use it, you'll realise what smooth truly smooth is.
Fit😍
You should play runescape and shave some xp gains from noobs
Haha. You're funny and cute.
2022 🤣
2023 now! 🥰
Shaving stick isn’t Vegan SO SAD
At least you shave your legs. Most sjw wouldn't even bother.
