For those with thicker hair. Shave in the direction of hair growth first, reapply your shaving lotion and then shave against the direction of hair growth.

Hello there, I am glad more people are wet shaving using real safety razors. that being said, in the spirit of helping and not criticizing....please do not ever wipe your blade after use. wiping your blade dry after use only makes you run the risk of cutting yourself at the expense of ruining your blade's edge. So what you end up is with a crappy shave. so how do you prevent rust? simple. just shake dry and change the blade every three days. the blades are cheap enough so 3 days and toss it in your jar . Most are stainless steel so they will take a long time to rust anyway. With your Astras that is 300 shaves for 10 USD! this way you also always have a sharp blade. to remove soap scum use a tiny bit of toothpaste and a toothbrush bought specifically for this task. scrub lightly inside and out and rinse to a brand new clean. Oh and for the "nether regions" use a brand new blade always and toss after only one use. Why? to prevent cross contamination.

Gil Oro does wiping your blade really ruin your blade? I only wipe right now, I have a 1920’s ronson razor with a leather strop on the back and I’m scared of ruining it with a lot of water

Safety is priority. Under no circumstance should used blades be composted, recycled or thrown in the waste. The most responsible method is using a sharps container, which can be purchased at a local grocer or pharmacy. Each container comes with manufacturers return instructions for proper and safe disposal.

yes a LOT . 5 years ago I bought a bundle: safety razor, a pack with 50 bic blades, the sensitive skin shaving cream and brush. it was between 5/10$. The only thing you need to buy regularly is the cream but even that is like what 2/4$ and for me lasts for 7 full body shaves.

Safety razor blades are never recycled, as they are too thin and hazardous to go through the process. Best option for disposal is to use a derby international safety disposal case. These are used by hospitals. Once you are done using your blade, just throw it into the case. Once completely filled up, hand it over to your nearest pharmacy. They will dispose of it correctly.

Every video I have watched so far, including a gentleman from executive shaving (m.ruclips.net/video/ps88RU_BXlA/видео.html), is to shave in short strokes. You can not shave in longstrokes like a traditionally Gillette razor! It doesn't pivot to contour with your body so keep that in mind. Watch the RUclips video from Executive Shaving to see a professional, who's job is shaving with safety razors. Just because hes shaving his face doesn't mean women can't learn how to shave other parts of their body properly from his example.

While you should store blades safely (and for that it would be better to get a can of chicken stock, cut a slit in it, empty it out and then go through the slog of cleaning it without otherwise opening the can, or get a container made for them which are reasonably cheap), you _should not_ recycle them unless you are _absolutely sure_ it is okay to do so in your area. Call the sanitation dept. or company first. If the blades come loose from that can (like it opening in transit), they can harm the workers sorting recycling later.
Most regions will just say it should go in the landfill, though you could find someplace that takes sharps (even a local pharmacy _might_ do it because they usually have sharps disposal programs) if you're concerned about the environment and potentially harming wildlife.

You should ask the city or company picking-up that recycling. Most will say landfill. Blades can get caught in recycling machines, or seriously injure the workers sorting through recycling (the container might get crushed or opened in transit).
You can use this or something like it to store safely: www.amazon.com/Feather-Blade-Disposal-Case/dp/B004LDEISW

Depends if the wax paper made with petroleum-based is not suitable then. However if it's made of vegetable oil or soybean natural ingredients, then yes it will take a long time to compost

But most of them deviated from petroleum-based product and it's very common. So I suggest you should not just discard, throw it away don't worry about it. Then they put razor blade mineral oil to smoothen and prevent rusting

I have a van der Hagen razor and I found mine at a local Kroger in the men’s section with the other men’s razors, they also had shave soaps and extra razor packs and my razor was a little less than $20

The astra blades she has are available online. Just not with that link. Use the search bar for astra blades on Amazon

I tried my new safety razor for the first time today and I had a traumatic experience. I used it exactly like this with coconut oil and I still was covered in razor burn. I came to RUclips to see if I did something wrong but it doesn't seem like it.

It's all in the angle, slow movement, taught skin. I've had a couple of injuries over the ankle and knee if I don't keep the skin tight

Invest in a straight razor. Once you learn to use it, you'll realise what smooth truly smooth is.
