Hey folks! I want to emphasize something, because I really don't want to get it twisted.
Please believe me when I say that, while I had preconceptions of the series, I tried to set them aside while watching. When I'd sit down for an episode, I'd put them out of my mind and try to experience the show as it was intended. This was made FAR easier by it being purely Japanese, with the original music, and solid subtitles. This made the experience feel fresh, and new.
It also helps that I genuinely forgot a majority of the stuff that took place, and the order they took place in. So to that end, I did get to experience a lot of this fresh, if not entirely for the first time..
If you enjoy Dragon Ball GT? I genuinely don't think less of you, or your tastes. I just disagree with you. There's something there that's compelling to you that's just not there for me. I'm glad you enjoyed the show in your own right.
Edit: Also, yes. Super does also pull a lot of stupid shit. Piccolo's death in the Res F arc is terrible. The Res F arc is probably worse than a majority of what's in GT. But we're not talking about Super. We're talking about GT.
It's pretty bad. I had forgotten how terrible this "plot" got. It is only made better by watching you rip it asunder, so thanks for that.
You're a sweet, sweet man, Scott, but it's okay to just flat out say GT is just terrible with virtually no redeeming qualities. It was a waste of everybody's time.

Gt is written by going through the motions with the trappings of visuals you would see if better material. Tropes without love or care. That's why some people say it's fine - they're projecting. And why it's easy to hate - the creators transparently don't love their own work.
I'm sorry, THAT'S how they killed Piccolo? I knew he died sacrificing himself so Goku could escape but that just.... that's so dumb and bad. Especially cuz like... if he knew the Black Star balls had been used, and that lore drop around their origins, then Piccolo, as he currently is, would've WAY felt some degree of responsibility, would've gone with them to HELP find the black star balls!
Literally, the only way doing him THIS dirty makes sense is if the writing staff for GT actively hated him. There's just... no way you have anyone in that room that likes Piccolo and wind up writing that.
I dunno if anyone else mentioned it, but I actually watched your SurfShark ad in the beginning and loved every second. As far as Im concerned, I would take 100% of every ad I ever watch ever again just being that format, we all hate adverts, lets be honest about the shilling.

I think what happened with the planets after is they used the Namekian DragonBalls to transmute New Tuffle into a simulacrum of Earth. So original Earth, technically still dead. New Tuffle just looks nice now.
God, I forgot that this is when Piccolo basically commits suicide. For some reason, I always thought it occurred at the end of the mess that is the Super 17 arc.
I'd doesn't surprise me at all that surfshark approved the ad at the beginning considering what tomska gets away with.

i don't get the meme, on buu saga, even if he was scared of anything and had a low power level (he was stronger than a regular super saiyan, but basically never fought in his life, like a chiaotzu with super saiyan level. powerful enough to bind a super saiyan 2, he tried to warn z warriors (but again, those are dumb/want fights) he find a way to power up gohan enormously (gohan fked up).

@@valentds pretty sure he was at least stronger than SSJ2 Gohan since he lasted longer against Buu and was able to easily cancel out a blast that Gohan was about to die to. And after he fused he was confident he'd be able to fight Buu.

Dare I say it, I do prefer Kibitokai over the ma-guffin explanation we get in Super. So if nothing else, GT remained both consistent and not "do thing because why not"

Piccolo knew the truth. If he dies and takes the black star balls with him, there will never be another dragonball gt. He is the real hero of this anime. Sadly, he didn't know the writers still planned 24 more episodes.
And even after dying, the writers still managed to screw him over in the afterlife.

I thought these guys were Dragon Ball experts. Everybody knows that Ki is stored in the balls. Baby’s balls were crushed by Majuub during the inflation sequence, which is why Baby’s Super Dee Tooper Gallick Gun was so weak.

Sometimes we fall in love with the promise of something more than the product itself. It can hurt to realize that's what you've done to yourself.
Lani, who was never in love with GT's promise, can be happy in seeing something laughably bad fail to achieve anything of interest. But Kaiser, who can't help but engage with the genuinely interesting setups, leaves himself vulnerable when the plot demands that a payoff occur--to resounding failure. I empathize with that.
To give some extra context, In the Latin American dub When Piccolo explains to Gohan why is staying in Earth, then AND ONLY IN THAT SCENE, Piccolo calls Gohan in that scene "Hijo" this is the only time where Piccolo Straight up tells him that he sees him as his own son, his last words are "Take care, Son" and it destroys a lot of people

I remember crying when Piccolo died in GT. The moment hits hard if you watch all of Dragon Ball, but if you only watch GT, the moment is not earned in the slightest.
The fact you don't need to watch the original Dragon Ball to feel Piccolo's development in Z, really tells you how bad GT is. Granted maybe they were banking on the fact most people have watched the previous shows before GT, which to be fair, how many people do you think have only watched GT and nothing else.

Other than the stellar voice acting of Carlos Segundo and Luis Alfonso Mendoza, what carried that scene was the fact that we were experiencing GT basically alongside DBZ and DB and not as its own thing. We felt Piccolo's death because we still had the previous series fresh in our minds.
You know, the fun part about a SurfShark add is that they pretty much let you get away with anything. So you just never know what kind of add you are in for if TomSka is anything to go by XD
Came to say this exact thing, down to the TomSka shoutout 🤣 makes their ads more engaging though and I imagine can be unique or “meta” to quickly come up with. Got too real with the ad revenue though 😭

Not so much that he takes things seriously, because that's hypocritical on my part, but that he acts like he's above that shit when he clearly isn't.
The 10x turns red later on, every big beam in the Baby saga is the same color as a normal Kamehameha, even ones that shouldn't be like the Galick Gun which should be pink/purple. I guess they realized later on how visually boring this is and gave everything a distinct color, and the games later corrected the Super Galick Gun to be the color it should have been in the first place. I dunno, maybe they made it red to imply he's infusing the beam with the Kaioken, or maybe just because it looks cool.
Juubei in GT in regards to SSJ4 and Golden Oozaru is representing the 10X multiplier the Oozaru form gives the user.
The first 10x Kamehame wave its blue but later one red due him being at full power or something

I knew once the piccolo scene happened, there was gonna be a STRONG conversation because Kaiser called it about people complimenting that scene. I saw the scene on a RUclips Short with sad music edited in and the comments were flooded with praise talking about piccolo’s journey to get here. I just think they wanted another piccolo sacrifice scene but the logic behind the decision isn’t there for me.
The ending of the Tournement of Power was The Gods of Dragon Ball apologizing to Android (Cyborg) 17 for the travesty that is GT's Super 17 arc. I for one can't wait to see Scott's further descent into the bowels of Madness watching the upcoming episodes.

No way Dr.Gero knows the other dude, not possible they have resources to create something in Hell... how come its possible to open a portal between hell and earth? Plus the old villains returning while very good end up being treated has jokes, no balance fights.
I only really liked Super 17 design, overall the whole arc feels like Filler.

For example if you studied biology in frogs for 10 years, you are highly credible in that field of study since you KNOW the ins and outs of the subject. Like-wise if you starred in a tv show as a character who studies frogs for 20 years you are cobsidered less credible on the subject since you are not as knowledgable or studious on the subject. In this case kaizer is really credible and lani is less due to the fact that kaizer basically lives dbz and can even recite certain release times and researched MULTITUDES of information for the abridged series. Lani IS knowledgable but is not as credible as kaizer since he hasnt watched dragon ball at all (might have been taka not sure), so he doesnt know enough to fully trust him in certain topics

Honestly, the people who have been saying that it gets better when Baby shows up probably haven't watched the show in 15+ years. I would know because I was in this group. I used to be blind to poor writing and animation as a kid, I was just happy to have more Dragonball

True, but the *concept* of the Shadow Dragons was really good. The execution wasn't very good, but the idea that there's actually consequences for how much they use the Dragon Balls is good.
@@blackchibisan8116 The Shadow Dragon Arc has a really cool concept, and I will say the ending is great, but the arc itself has such missed potential with most of the Shadow Dragons being pretty bland personality wise, and a lot of the fights being pretty meh (Also massive missed opprutnity with not using more characters in that arc).
The Arc itself had great potential but really rough execution.
I just like 2 ssj4's fighting together... That's almost all I remember about the shadow dragons..... Well, that and panty dragon.
Shadow Dragons is the best arc. I don’t know where this notion that Baby is the best arc in DBGT came from, but it’s not true. Super 17 and Shadow Dragons are both superior.

The disrespect shown to Final Flash and Big Bang Attack with Baby only spamming Galick Gun is a travesty.
I’m fine with it. It’s supposed to be Vegeta’s Kamehameha, but he only used it once in the manga.
They kept making final flash blue or pink
Vegeta used Galick Gun, Big Bang Attack and Final Flash once each. Him using any of those more on movies and non-canon material then later Super is basically why Vegeta has a move list. Cause Toriyama would forget about his moves and just give him a new one next arc lol.
Final Flash is disrespected every time it's on screen. Hasn't gotten a single kill
They also get used in Super but it's just cheaply revisiting the scenes they were actually cool in.
Kinda like the climax of Super Hero. It's so fraudulent.

I like the Scott is holding the Dub hostage, even after the original broke him and everyone else wants to switch. Scott's going down like GT Piccolo.
The dub literally makes nothing better about the show.
The dub is awful. Mostly due to the terrible repititive music. At least the original has some small meager amount of charm left in it

I’ve had Kaiser’s opinion for decades now about GT being this bad. Seeing the resurgence of GT being good absolutely blew my mind away. I’m glad someone is here to point out all the flaws of this show

It's literally a consequence of Gohan's current lack of power to protect his world and loved ones. Piccolo's death was additional motivation to make Gohan begin training again aside from Videl and Pan dying temporarily.
Was it necessary? No. But it had an actual purpose unlike GT Piccolo dying.
@@MJH129 and guess what happened again? He stopped training in Super Hero. Sure he trained for the ToP but then went right back to where he was at the start of Super. He could’ve still had the motivation to train if only his wife and daughter died when Earth exploded. Piccolo dying didn’t need to happen. It was pointless

I remember in one of these episodes, hercule stands up to baby and goku calls him a hero. Would've been the first time in the abridged series goku could officially say "hail satan"

For the 10* kamehameha, I always thought this name was a reference to the fact that the Oozaru form multiplies your power ten times fold. The SSJ4 is channeling the strength of the Oozaru in your normal body and Goku only uses the 10* times Kamehameha while in ssj4
That is what Juubei is used for in GT. It's to let others know/remind people that the Oozaru form multiplies one's power tenfold while in Golden Oozaru or SSJ4. I made a Comment myself also explaining this.
So, when Piccolo dies the black star dragon balls get deactivated right? So if he died before the Earth blew up, would the Earth have been fine, because the Black Star dragon balls would have been deactivated?
And just like that you put 10 times more effort into thinking about this then the writers did.
Not really. It's explained in GT that whenever a wish is made, negative energy is released into the world.
Usually, Kami and Dende's balls absorb this negative energy and go inert for a year in order to slowly and safely release this energy. (It actually takes about 100 years to fully dispel the energy from just one wish, apparently)

So, it's more the negative energy that destroys the world, and supposedly, only the Black Star Balls are able to reabsorb that energy and stop its spread on the planet. Idk how far along the destruction can be until it doesn't work, but I imagine when the place is a literal hell, it's too late.
(We never see this process happen in the series, so I can't be sure how the reabsorption happens. It's just what I can glean from what's explained)

@@markopusic8258 I actually appreciate how the beginning of Super pit things into perspective; Beerus remarks that Goku's base form is too weak to have killed Frieza. Powerlevels are BS but that gives us an upper limit if you care about that sorta thing.
Then later when Vegeta and Cabba are evenly matched, Vegeta's Super Saiyan form is significantly superior to Cabba who hasn't adapted to it.

Super has odd scaling with characters catching up to beyond Buu saga levels with sudden ease but other than the quantum ceiling of Beerus characters relative levels aren't scaling badly in terms of being inconsistent with the narrative. And Feats aren't Underwhelming like in GT.@@markopusic8258

You know the worst part about ALL OF THIS? A Hero's Legacy is probably the best thing to come out of GT for how tame it is. Ignoring the plotholes, it's a story of self-improvement and braving danger for the sake of others. I hate how the EPILOGUE of this show is a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, I do detect an uncharitability at work here. I have never once heard these guys gripe when Gotenks could poop ghosts out of his mouth. If "well it's just something they can do in that form" is good enough for Gotenks, it's good enough for SSJ4 Goku.

The difference between those two sudden bullshit powers is that energy absorption is an asspull to solve a problem the protagonist is facing, which makes it feel lazy. Telepathy was used as a convenient way of allowing Goku to be brought up to speed on current events without interrupting the flow of the narrative. They're both kind of dumb, but one serves a narrative purpose while the other doesn't.
Lol these 2 examples aren't comparable in the slightest. What dire consequence would there be if Goku didn't suddenly learn telepathy? Idk... he'd have to talk with Krillin for a couple minutes?

It's really starting to feel like the writers actually _did_ have, at the very least, a general idea as to what to do. But then they get reminded "Hey. You have to do a certain amount of episodes to fill for a quota." So we get all these weird moments and plot points that are just there to drag stuff out. This fight should have ended after the Oozaru Baby Vegeta Galick Gun vs. SSJ4 Goku 10x Kamehameha, but then it's just "Hey. Episode quota" and it gets dragged out.

Also, Goku could have just used Instant Transmission, just saying!

piccolo being alone on a planet at this point made entirely out of deserts, ruins and other assorted desolated areas is kind of a mood, not gonna lie.
wait so if killing Piccolo would have nullified the black dragon balls from the beginning, why didn't they just do that from the beginning? It's not like he couldn't come back. And even if they become inert they can still be found by the group. So even if you revive Piccolo and the black star balls timer hasn't reset, you still have them gathered and dealt with.
I honestly thought they should have had two teams of dragonball searchers in the beginning.
1)Piccolo with Goten, Trunks, and Bra for tech support. Piccolo has a solidified history as being the guardian/mentor/babysitter of the next generation of Saiyans and this can lead to oodles of interesting dynamics, like a return of Gotenks and the children of Bulma and Goku continuing the dragon ball searching tradition
2)Vegeta with Goku, Pan, and Giru. It's weird how Vegeta is the only one on the team who has extensive experience with space travel but stays home instead. Goku is depowered and has to relearn all his old techniques for his new body so the team isn't overpowered, and all of this allows Uub to step up as the new guardian of Earth while the big guns are away.
Finally someone says it. GT and Super aren’t even comparable in quality. Regardless of whether you think Super is even good is not even in the picture.
GT is vastly superior to super, ya'll love simping to these guy's opinions even when they get information regarding the series incorrect at times.

It weirdly seems like the writers for GT are the literal embodiment of, "Only watched Dragon Ball, who dis?" and had to be given a five minute crash course on everything that happened in Dragon Ball Z. The fact the Legacy of Goku came out *DURING* the release of GT episodes, the early episodes, the lack of any sort of power scaling beyond "Rildo is stronger than Buu, and Baby is stronger than Rildo, and Super 17 is gonna be stronger than," and so on.
It's incredibly weird, because the people who worked on GT have worked on the Dragon Ball anime since practically the beginning. But it's like they took all the wrong lessons in how to mimic Toriyama's storytelling.

GT had so many good ideas, but missed the Dismount so damn hard. A Tsufurlu survivor engineers a super weapon to get back at the Saiyans? Great Idea. Give the Saiyans back their tails, Good Look, not going to lie. Super Saiyan 4, Not personally a furry, but it's a Unique form with unique (initial) transformation. Majuub bringing it back full circle, Perfection! The Earth Blows up with Piccolo with it to stop this from happening again! Tear Jerking.
But what did they accomplish with it? The Main Villain is Super Buu but actively only being the exact same as the person he's taken control over, like seriously, once he becomes Vegeta, he adopts all of Saiyan Saga Vegeta's modus Operendi (Fighting and losing, Transforms into a Monkey form, Continues to lose, Gets Tail blasted off and runs away). Give the Saiyans back their tails, only Kid Goku keeps his, and the Oozaru form not even mattering anymore. Super Saiyan 4 is effectively what Super Saiyan became (The default form for the actual fighting), which is most obvious with how he never needs to go monkey ever again. Uub who was to be Goku's successor, gets a super power up by fusing with Mr. Buu, and turns into the strongest Jobber. The Earth blows up with Piccolo on it because Piccolo has been sitting around for days doing nothing, but decides to die because we really need to remove that extra undo button, except we go straight to Namek to fix the Earth anyways reminding us that the Title of the series proves there's no consequence for our actions.
Compare this to the de-facto worst arc in Super, Res F. Main Villain is Freeza, again. Boring. Goku and Vegeta are default heroes, as expected as Protagonist and Deuteragonist. Lame. Super Saiyan God Super Saiya- Ack I bit my tongue (That's the damn joke the series makes of itself). So boring and unoriginal, and we don't even see their first awakening. (in the anime) Ginyu Came back because he tricked someone into changing with him. Waited 20 years for that to come full circle. Then it all ends with Goku stealing the Kill as always after once again proving there's no stakes in this battle with a being who has a super power of literal WHOOPSIE UNDO BUTTON.
But how Res F Anime is executed (Poor animation due to hyper crunch time aside): Freeza comes back because of course his death doesn't mean the end of the literal empire he made tracked down those magic balls to call him back, we get the actual reason people aren't resurrected after 1 year's time, not a retcon was never really explained before. Goku and Vegeta are default heroes but because of their stupid desire to constantly train they're off world, AND off dimension where they had started learning how to control their power in order to use Super Saiyan with Super Saiyan God. Freeza comes back to get his revenge! No heroes EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO FIGHT. Gohan shows he went back to wanting to be a scholar just like before, but still tries to fight. And once his shit gets rocked, Piccolo flies in to save him and DIES instead. Unlike even the Movie, and every other goddamn fight in Z, He chooses to NOT stand on the sidelines, he will save his first friend no matter the cost, and DIES. Even though we know it'll get undone thanks to the Dragonballs, it still has a chance to land because he Died for an emotionally resonant moment, giving Gohan an impetus to actually start training and fighting again. Goku and Vegeta Come back, they completely don't think Freeza's a threat, Goku fights first, and once the fight is effectively over, he does what he did in the Freeza saga, turns around and because this attack came from not a ki blast, but an energy weapon, he gets back shoot not responding fast enough. YES just like in the Feeza saga, when he powered down from super Saiyan and started flying away leaving Freeza a chance to Pizza-Time him, only dodging by a breath, Goku has a habit of this. Vegeta, steps in, gets his much needed Catharsis in beating that tyrant's ass like it was a bongo in the Congo. Gets cocky (may as well have done his signature I'm thumbs upping to my chin, it means I'm ready to job now) and Freeza blows up the world. Goku's taught to suck it up and do what needs to be done in emergency situations, or shit like this will happen again. He flies in for the kill instantly.
Yes, Res F and BoG are the worst arcs of Super. But God is the writing is 10X Kamehameha more consistent than all of GT put together.

Was funny seeing Kaiser finally just lose it and give up trying to hold his verdict on GT til the very end. GT is objectively an utter train wreck and the only real moment folks seem to really talk about is the very ending that feels like a proper sendoff/close on Dragonball... except that was done already, lol. 4 times at least if you count the end of Dragonball pre-Z, Frieza Saga's end, Cell Saga's end, and then of course the end that came after the Buu Saga. GT was unnecessary. Sure, some of the ideas were cool such as going full circle by going back to Oozaru and combining it with Super Saiyan to get SSJ4 (which shouldn't even be categorized as the 4th Super Saiyan form) as well as the concept of the Shadow Dragons, but the execution was so horrifically botched at every turn. The fact that the general consensus is that the sendoff is the best moment of the series - the very ending - says a lot about how much of a mess it is.
At least it hasn't gone on for an embarrassingly long time like Boruto has with dragging the cast of Naruto's corpses through the mud.
I'm glad they gave it a fair chance, but I've never been able to get behind enjoying someone torturing themselves with media they don't like and ranting about it. Same goes with Lani's position of laughing at terrible media. There's only so many times someone can reference The Room before it just becomes tiresome.
