do find funny the gt timeline is also where the movies happened.(at least in super it can be explained vegeta got stronger enough to use energy in his final attack/actually wasn't completely uselessly pointless doing something.)

Revisiting 17 after post-Cell saga was always a gold mine.

Well, important for the tournament of power and a punching bag for Moro and has yet to appear again in the manga since then. Still better than this though.

Episode 41 is my favorite episode just because Buu and Uub’s conversation is emotional.

God I remember hearing about Frieza and Cell coming back in this arc and getting so excited as a kid.
find funny in hindsight frieza and cell hate each others guts compared to working together in gt.(that's the same thing i questioned back then with baby not being there.)
really love the concept of the villains escaping hell just wish it wasn't wasted twice as they really could have fun with the z fighters going against older villains(especially pan pinballing the red ribbon army/would've liked raditz & nappa changing sides though find funny buu bits in hindsight explained tfs nappa in gt.)
I am hoping that the twist for HIFL is that Raditz DID come back to earth with the others, but just... Left. They didn't make him go back to HIFL because he got out and just tried to make a nice new life for himself and Gaz and Mez recognize that that means he changed.

But where does this fit in the HFIL timeline is my question. I know Nie's pointed out Raditz was there, but the HFIL version of him just deciding to NOT go to earth despite having the opportunity to seems really in character. I just imagine him drinking a coffee like "yeah no. I go out there, I get jobbered immediately. I'm just gonna take the day off"
I could believe that myuu, having created baby's body (bio artificial body), and gero, having cybernetics experience , could recreate a fully robotic 17 with some sort of artificial soul.(or memories?) Sadly the writers either didn't or couldn't do it in an interesting way, so Hell Fighter 17 just kinda exists.(?)

@@tsubakiakamaru8660 Come to think of it, there were filler scenes in the DBZ anime showing that Frieza had been de-cyborged, so GT would've been going off of that. Of course, DBS now indicates that Frieza _was_ still a cyborg in Hell (and I think it's noted in the manga that people's bodies often come back the way they were when revived by the Dragon Balls, so it makes sense).
Funny you guys mention the Japanese voice for Buu sounds like Gonzo.....cause Kozo Shioya (Buu's seiyuu) is the Japanese voice of Gonzo in Muppets.

Honestly, I would have loved to see Gohan kill Raditz. The guy who kidnapped Gohan as a toddler and led to his fathers death, to now being significantly weaker than him and one-shoted. Basically the Frieza scene in Fusion Reborn.

@@JohnnyTheWolf-d3p Im gonna be real with ya. Freeza achieving a Golden transformation with the intent of mocking Super Saiyan and how their races are about transformations makes more sense than most of the stuff we are witnessing in the Super 17 arc.
Even if its bs/lazy. Which says a lot more about GT really.

It's such a weird thing... 18 learns a KI-BASED attack from Krillin when he teaches her to do Destructo-disk.
Androids DO have what is more-or-less ki. Heck at the end of Z we see 17 and 18 lend Goku power for the Spirit Bomb!
So they DO have ki! It's just harder to sense than normal ki. Heck, the black aura isn't even the first time 17 had an aura in combat.

I remember watching this when i was younger thinking the old villians should have been longer and used to keep the Z fighters busy (give them actual personalities and fights) while earth 17 should have still been good, but drawn to Hell 17. They then have a fight and fuse, rather then "oh they are both evil now, and all the villains are dead" just a lot of missed opportunities... probably due to time

The funny thing about the part you guys rip on of Goku's "misadventures" in hell.... those are literally the tortures of Japanese Hell [Jigoku]. He's just not really put off by them because he wasn't guilty (to a strong degree) of most of those sins, so they hardly affect him

Man, being a villain in DragonBall really pays! The funding that Gero had access to while being in hell to CREATE ANOTHER 17 FROM SCRATCH must've been insane!
Apparently for some reason you also get to train in hell when your a villain. Even though technically that shouldn't be allowed, they would eventually become strong enough to get out of hell by force.
Kaiser's concerned about watching it in the order the creators intended and I'm sitting here questioning the idea that GT was made with intention of anyone actually watching it.
It feels like....a lot of bad corporate decision making made into an anime with 1 good episode. The literal Bee Plot.
I hope if HFIL continues, you guys do something with these episodes to riff on them.

They could have done so many fun interactions. Imagine Gohan and Goten meeting the evil King Piccolo. Mr. Satan fighting Colonel Silver and Staff Officer Black. Krillin getting revenge on Tambourine. Vegeta learning about the time Monster Carrot made Bulma wear a bunny outfit.

@@PinkieBen Yep. Aside from possibly Major Metallion and Mercenary Tao, the Red Ribbon Army is the last threat that Mr. Satan could take on and have a fair chance of winning, IMO.
Considering TFS canon, if Nappa isn't in the "Other Group" in HFIL, I'm gonna be disappointed, because he's dead again, by autoerotic asphyxiation via belt. I could see Nappa and Bojack having chemistry like chocolate and peanut butter.
When does HFIL take place? I could see the argument that it takes place before the Buu saga.
I feel like it's taking place prior to the Otherworld Tournament filler arc where Goku and Pikkon fight Cell and Freeza
Its pretty concretely after cell dies in the cell games, and Nappa is alive until Buu in the bits

The only idea I have was one can be sensed and other can't be sensed one had evil ki which is the one in hell and other one ki can't be sensed was the one earth
I think what the Super 17 arc needed other than it being so short, and a few plot holes, I wish we got to know more about the original 17. Who is he now? Make me like him. Make me feel bad that he got mind controlled, and for hurting his sister against his will. Super 17 is just cool, and that's it.
People can say what they want about Super, but the downtime used in Super is used pretty well for other characters.
Say what you will about Resurrection F. But they took full advantage of the premise. Frieza was allowed to be his deliciously evil self, there were nods to the continuity since his death. It’s a flawed story but it has its moments.
This arc was an easy set up for extended sequences and episodes of villains coming back. Cell looking to get revenge on Gohan, Frieza going after Trunks not realizing it’s a different one from the guy who killed him. Raditz being baffled that jis weakling brother had two sons and even a granddaughter who far outclass him. There was a lot to draw from
What I especially hate about Resurrection F is that they were too cheap to give Freeza an actual new form like Coola's. Freeza is not a Saiyan, there is no reason why his skin should just go turn gold as he reaches a new level.

After all, they had no problem redesigning Broly several times over the years and they eventually did give both Gohan and Piccolo new unique forms in the Super Hero movie. Heck, SSJ4 remains a fan favourite up to this day and it significantly alters Goku and Vegeta's appearances!
@@JohnnyTheWolf-d3p Yeah but Super also had a lot of nostalgia pandering. Broly may have a few tweaks but it’s still Toriyama’s take on Broly. The new suits Goku and Vegeta had was quickly dropped for their more iconic looks.

The Super 17 story arc is why I have been saying for _years_ that Vegeta got done dirty when he didn't get to keep _his_ body.
This arc is 1 of the biggest reasons I don't see the argument that Super is worse than GT. Super did actually interesting things with 17 that didn't involve turning him evil through mind control & fusing him with a doppelganger. Just, why?

And So Did Goku, He Flat Out States That Even While 17 Was Fused Into Super 17, A Smal Glimpse Of Himself Was Still Fighting Back, He Knew That 18 Had The Bomb Removed, But He Still Couldnt Bring Himself To Kill His Sister (That's What Goku Tell 18 About 17/Super 17 After His Death)

Now you REALLY begin to see how this series lived on through half-remembered descriptions of ideas that sound GREAT when they're being described and the only images of them that exist are cool-ass things like 17's black ki and the title "Hell-Fighter #17." But when you actually sit down and WATCH the damn thing it's...THIS!

So you know how Kaiser flipped his shit last week? This is the arc that made ME flip my shit. There is SO MUCH POTENTIAL IN THIS ARC AND IT IS ALL SQUANDERED.
Kinda upset they glossed over the fact that Cell tried to and pretty much absorbed Goku, but then Goku just...crawled out xD

Theory time: GT was originally supposed to end with Baby. However, something happened behind the scenes that led to the execs going "we CANNOT end on Baby", so they hastily threw together the last dozen episodes, released the already finished special meant to be the big send off as filler, and then kept going in an attempt to salvage GT.
Though with how this show has been manhandled, it could honestly be anything.
This actually happened a lot. It was just rare for their western partners to mimic and do it too. Off of the top of my head, there's the entirety of the Digimon movies/specials that aired during the shows respective runs, even if it didn't make sense.
Our War Game aired early March 2000 and took place AFTER the show's end (and arguably spoiled the ending) since the show was still airing at the time and was wrapping up the Dark Masters/Apocalymon arc; 02 had its main movie, Hurricane Touchdown, air at about the mid-point and spoiled Magnamon before the it showed up in the show and Revenge of Diablomon/Diaboromon Strikes Back takes place after the show as well but was released as the show was in its last arc.
Its not even restricted to Toei either since you had stuff like Megaman NT Warrior/Rockman EXE movie, Program of Light and Dark, which absolutely feels like a finale (and arguably serves as a better one considering it does wrap up the Nebula plot from the games albeit rather different) and given how Beast and Beast+ didn't bother adapting 6 plot wise at all....

I love Horyinjutsu rendition of this episode of where Goku goes to hell to face off against Frieza and Cell, but unlike GT the villains have been training for all those years planning their revenge.
Legit turned it from a funny gag fight to a horror show. Golden Frieza was portrayed as such a menace and it has this sense of hopelessness that was just a masterful work.

And my biggest citation to this is "the sonic mandates states that Shadow the Hedgehog doesnt have friends" and if you played any game where shadow is playable that is objectively wrong.

Yeah, Toho supposedly has a mandate that Godzilla can emote/show emotion, which is really dumb. Godzilla is a character, he should be allowed to express things like sadness, anger, joy, etc.

A idea I wish they did for the Frieza/Cell tag team is have them constantly go at Goku, and everytime Goku seemingly beats them they respawn because they aren't limited to traditional bodies anymore, and they'd just wear Goku out to the point that his energy/stamina was too low to teleport out. Or a fight where Goku's raw power was irrelevant, because Cell and Frieza would outlast him. Make it a endurance fight. Instead, it's a repeat of antics from the Baby arc that was mediocre.
The calm delivery Scott gives when Lani casually goes “yeah lots of long pause shots on this one” and he just goes “yeah welcome to dragon ball” sends me and I don’t know why hauahauaha
These hell episodes sure prove that if we ever had something well done kind of a mix of the original table special where everyone gets a moment and then something GOOD with resurrection F then we’d have such such fun.

Of all the weird lore this arc introduces, I like the common theme that Machinery can have souls, as we see with Major Mettalitron, Android 19, General Blue's Plane and General Black's Mech.

Get a great moment where Krillin is completely out-classed, but he's trying to snap his wife out of it and Super 18 ends up hesitating a bunch because she doesn't want to hurt him. She separates and Goku and her finish off her evil counterpart.
