Excellent video. I have watched many videos on the mower charging system, and for the life of me, I could not figure out why my system wasn't charging. I had put my mower in the shop and they replaced the entire wiring harness, when I got it back, I had the charging issue. I replaced the Stator and the Regulator. I had voltage from the battery through the ingition switch. But your video pointed out the ground wire. That was the key piece that I was missing. I checked from the regulator case to ground and it read open. I fabricated a ground wire and after installing it, I am now getting 14vdc at the battery. Time will tell, but I think this mystery is finally solved. Thanks a lot!
Mine was working enough to just drive around or pull my other mowers around with it but i think the battery is so dead from it not getting charged while the engine is on running that now the mower will start up and shut off start then shut off i believe its doing that because the drained battery it will drain new batteries while my tractor mowers will charge the battery back up but i been thinking for over a year its a bad rectifier i hope its only that
This is exactly what I go going on. I can jump pack the exmark but then it starts dying off until it does. I know I put a new flywheel, stator in so it’s not that, and I know it runs! , Did a rectifier test and I’m 100% sure I have a bad ones. Would this be the cause for not starting up?
Hello there! Yes this would cause the unit not to start again because the battery keeps going dead. Once you jump it again it starts and runs for a while yes?
Start it up and measure voltage at battery, if battery voltage is not going up then you have a charging issue. If so check stator first then regulator. A bad battery can cause the same or similar symptoms with a bad cell(s) so make sure it is good also
That is what we diagnose here being wrong. You also want to make sure to test the stator, connections and grounds at the same time. Thanks for watching!
I hope my rectifier is shot and hope the guy put the new stator on right i hope the flywheel magnets aren't off the flywheel and stuck to the stator i can fix any of those problems if so but im hoping its just a bad rectifier or ground connection from it i have a lot to do on all these other single cylinder engines no work to do on any of my old 90ies flathead Briggs they hardly ever have any problems

Instructions were clear and detailed. Very informative video. Thankyou Sir.
Thanks for watching!
That was an excellent tutorial on the charging system.
Thank you Dave and thanks for watching!
Thx, great info in this video.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much it helps me a lot
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
What would it do with 2 rectifiers hooked up
Not work

with engine running you need 14 volts dc to charge 12 volt batt i would change regulater

Don't have a tester what other way can i without a tester
Lazer become lazy.😢😢

Definitely!
If it has an electric parking brake module like the Toro's do, its probably that module, they're known for going bad.
Not on this one
