    I’m an old duffer from Nebraska and am trying to learn some in depth details on repairs other than just plugs, carbs and gaskets. This was very very informative for me. I’ve subbed and will be watching. IMO an extremely educational video with great visibility, explanations and no horrible background music!!!!! A real BIG DEAL for me.

    My problem is after I cut for a couple of hours, the engine won't start... like the battery is dead. I can charge the battery and it will start.... brand new battery. I've had it (2008 Exmark Lazer Z with the 28hp Kawasaki) at the local repair shop 3 times and they still can't fix this seemingly simple (for a trained mechanic) problem. So I've came to the conclusion that it's on me to figure it out and to find a new mechanic. Your video is just what I was looking for to assist me... THANKS!!

      It’s going dead because your electric PTO is dragging the battery down because it’s not charging. Make sure you battery is good and do the check in this video.

    Do you think a bad voltage regulator could cause a pto switch to melt when Engaged?

    • @IFIXIT4U

      Probably not. Most likely its a bad PTO Clutch or direct short in hot wire to PTO clutch. PTO clutch should pull 3-5 amps DC. Good luck. Thank you.

    On a simplicity zt2354 we don’t show battery voltage at the B terminal of the reg. Supposed to be an “inline fuse” somewhere. Can you confirm this? Can’t find one anywhere. Can a new wire just be run?

    • @IFIXIT4U

    Question .. can’t you just ohm the 2 white wires to the stator ? And see if it shows it open? It’s just a wind of wires?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  2 года назад

      What if you have broken or missing magnets on the flywheel? What is the factory recommended ohm specs for the 3 engines in the video? How will you know if you are producing enough AC voltage. By the time you read this I have already tested the stator voltage and sitting down drinking coffee waiting on the ohm specs.

    What if the regulator is putting out over 16? Would that mean it’s over charging the battery and thus it’s a bad regulator?

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  Год назад +1

      The regulator puts out what is demanded. If you have a good battery and your electrical system is in good order. And you are not running any other electrical devices. Now if the regulator is putting out 16 amps I would say replace it.

    hey, could you tell me what '15/20 amps' means, as a pm alternator output rating. thx

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  Год назад

      Keep in mind that on a regulated system. System will only produce what is needed depending on electrical load. System will produce a maximum of 15/20 amps depending on engine RPM that is set by equipment OEM & size of the magnets in the flywheel. 15/20 amp system is more than enough for a mower with lights and electric pto clutch. While testing DC amps from DC+ regulator to + battery, 4-8 DC amps would be normal. If you apply a electrical load you will see the amps go up. I hope this help you.
      Thank you

      @@IFIXIT4U thanks so much. But overnight I actually thought of the problem. The magnets came off of the fly wheel which I glued back on, but I think I got the orientation wrong on three of the magnets. So it would make sense that I’m only at 13 AC volts. I've got an older Koehler ch740 and every time I disconnect it from the battery it will die. Is that normal? i have replaced flywheel, stator, and regulator.

    • @IFIXIT4U
      @IFIXIT4U  3 года назад

      Yes. That is normal. You need battery power for the fuel solenoid on the carb and most of the ignition systems on those early models. The charging system can shut down if no battery is present in the circuit. Also the equipment wiring harness plays a roll in that. Removing the battery power while engine is running tells me nothing about the condition of the charging system. Also its hard on the voltage regulator and other electrical components.
