Yes, that was a good programme, it showed what an absolute sweetheart Jonathan is. Do you remember Rolando Villazon saying to the pianist "He's f***ing amazing" when he took them for a lesson. I thought that was really funny.
Over a decade later Jonathan has had multiple best selling albums, and Charlotte went off into musical theatre (which is what she actually wanted to do). He's the best tenner of his generation by far its scary how good his voice is. They were actually better as a pair than they show here, Charlotte is actually a very good singer, she just sounds mediocre next to Jonathan because he's an anomaly. Jonathan is phenomenal his latest concert at Ephesus In Turkey just over a week ago at the ancient amphitheater which is over 2400 years old would have blown you away. I was there I flew all the way from New Zealand just to be there and take a cruse at the same time with seabourne Jonathan was part of the cruise as well he is such a sweetheart and so kind he has the best voice in the world. You should hear his version of this now which is fantastic. He has the voice of an angel. He was such a nervous wreck and he needed her support he had been bullied all his life so I understand why they stuck together at this point. To be fair she done so much better in the semis and final. He has a incredibly successful career now. He is still finding new followers. Simon says it like it is. I've watched this video over the last couple of years on and off, just to hear Johnathon. It literally lifts my heart to hear him. His friend is just backup vocals, which was ok because Jonathon may not have ever auditioned without her.

To be fair the next round Charlotte knocked it out of the park and Cowell admitted he was wrong. They got to the final and think they lost. Eventually, they parted and Jonathan has had multiple number1 classical albums
As you saw, Simon said the same thing you did. That Johathan would be better on his own. But in a later episode Simon apologized to her after he heard more of her.

I agreed with Simon when I first saw this clip many years ago, so you're right. They weren't all that good together. But Jonathan is truly talented. His voice is powerful and perfectly pitched and he can literally play with it from high to low. An amazing talent. Whenever I listen to any of his music, I get the chills.
Charlotte did not got into obscurity! She had a place in a drama school waiting for her which she had to postpone while she and Jonathan were involved in the recording contract. When the duo split she was finally able to go back and complete her education and has been following her passion in musical theatre. She has been in several plays around London. Oh and by the way, the 2 albums (Together and Perhaps Love) they recorded as a classical crossover duo did very well, so the comment that they were not that good together was quite wrong.

I'm glad Charlotte did well after the duo stint. I hadn't heard anything about her since so this is good news. I liked her. And I think if it weren't for her encouragement, we would have never heard Jonathan's unique voice. So don't think for a minute that I'm putting Charlotte down. Quite the opposite.
What's so beautiful about J and C is that while she gave him the confidence to go on the show in the first place, his loyalty also ended up giving her career a boost through association - a beautiful friendship that worked out for both of them.
Although he is classically trained and could be an opera superstar, it is not the path he has chosen. He still sings operatic arias, and I think folks perceive him as an opera singer simply because of the power and quality of his voice. He also sings Disney, American songbook stuff like Unchained Melody, big crossover songs like Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, and even some reimagined country: His Country Roads will blow you away. In an interview, Charlotte admitted she signed both of them up without telling him. Honestly, and stay with me here, I believe she thought she could get exposure but only with him singing with her. Her voice is good but not distinctive or unique. Thankfully, it turned out well for both of them. She was in some ( 2, I believe) West End musicals. And Jonathan? Well needless to say he is being called the greatest tenor of this generation and aside having 4 solo albums is performing globally and has an enormous international fan base dubbed his "Fantoines" of which I am one.
Without Charlotte there is no way Jonathon would have applied for BGT. She is the one who gave him the confidence to sing in front of the judges and a 3000+ audience. Watch their Finals performance, Charlotte started the Prayer solo so she wasn't overwhelmed by Jonathon, and she had some Opera training as she is not really an Opera singer, hence her going off key in one part, but after more training she was very very good. p.s. she is 16 and he is 17 or the other way around so they are both still very young. You can see Jonathon on You Tube doing overseas gigs. They were runners up to a dog act - go figure!!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺

I took music theory back in college, my instructor was a 60 year old Opera singer, still performing at his age and was the head of the entire music department and co-designer of the music building at our college. He once told our class "Musicians and singers are like sluts...", unless your name is well known and people are coming specifically to a concert for you "...they'll take virtually anything that pays." And that has been true for every musician/singer i've ever known that is actually decent enough to perform. IDK what Charlotte and Jonathan have been up to in the years since this audition, but as long as he can still sing well and people know he can, he won't have any trouble making money.

You were completely correct, he needed to be matched with someone who could complement his magnificent voice at the same level. No shade to her at all. I hope by now you’ve heard more of them together. Something most people don’t realize is that most times in a large performance space, it’s hard to hear yourself and your partner correctly because of the acoustics. That’s usually solved by either a small feedback speaker in front of them, facing the back of the stage, or an earpiece. They didn’t have that for this audition. Once she had that available to her, she was perfect and more confident. I can also tell you as a longtime singer and musician, the hardest number of parts to play in tune is two. Once you have three or more, the sound coalesces and blends. Again, acoustics; physics. Once you can hear each other clearly, it gets a lot easier.

He was bullied in school she stood up for him their friendship I think blinds him to the fact that she can't compare to him. Simon says it like it is. I've watched this video over the last couple of years on and off, just to hear Johnathon. It literally lifts my heart to hear him. His friend is just backup vocals, which was ok because Jonathon may not have ever auditioned without her.

To be fair the next round Charlotte knocked it out of the park and Cowell admitted he was wrong. They got to the final and think they lost. Eventually, they parted and Jonathan has had multiple number1 classical albums

They placed 2nd in the Finals, and only lost to a dog gig, unfortunately. The couple split 2 years later and she's gone into obscurity while Jonathan went solo and is very successful. I agreed with Simon when I first saw this clip many years ago, so you're right. They weren't all that good together. But Jonathan is truly talented. His voice is powerful and perfectly pitched and he can literally play with it from high to low. An amazing talent. Whenever I listen to any of his music, I get the chills.
Charlotte did not got into obscurity! She had a place in a drama school waiting for her which she had to postpone while she and Jonathan were involved in the recording contract. When the duo split she was finally able to go back and complete her education and has been following her passion in musical theatre. She has been in several plays around London.
Oh and by the way, the 2 albums (Together and Perhaps Love) they recorded as a classical crossover duo did very well, so the comment that they were not that good together was quite wrong.
@@MBFARMGIRL52 I never said they weren't good together, dear. But Jonathan was by far superior and a different kind of voice that needed to be developed away from pop music. I'm glad Charlotte did well after the duo stint. I hadn't heard anything about her since so this is good news. I liked her. And I think if it weren't for her encouragement, we would have never heard Jonathan's unique voice. So don't think for a minute that I'm putting Charlotte down. Quite the opposite.

What's so beautiful about J and C is that while she gave him the confidence to go on the show in the first place, his loyalty also ended up giving her career a boost through association - a beautiful friendship that worked out for both of them.

Although he is classically trained and could be an opera superstar, it is not the path he has chosen. He still sings operatic arias, and I think folks perceive him as an opera singer simply because of the power and quality of his voice. He also sings Disney, American songbook stuff like Unchained Melody, big crossover songs like Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, and even some reimagined country: His Country Roads will blow you away. In an interview, Charlotte admitted she signed both of them up without telling him. Honestly, and stay with me here, I believe she thought she could get exposure but only with him singing with her. Her voice is good but not distinctive or unique. Thankfully, it turned out well for both of them. She was in some ( 2, I believe) West End musicals. And Jonathan? Well needless to say he is being called the greatest tenor of this generation and aside having 4 solo albums is performing globally and has an enormous international fan base dubbed his "Fantoines" of which I am one.

Without Charlotte there is no way Jonathon would have applied for BGT. She is the one who gave him the confidence to sing in front of the judges and a 3000+ audience.
Watch their Finals performance, Charlotte started the Prayer solo so she wasn't overwhelmed by Jonathon, and she had some Opera training as she is not really an Opera singer, hence her going off key in one part, but after more training she was very very good.
p.s. she is 16 and he is 17 or the other way around so they are both still very young. You can see Jonathon on You Tube doing overseas gigs. They were runners up to a dog act - go figure!!!

Am I the only one that thinks Charlotte did amazing since the first time I saw it back in 2012? Her voice goes very well with his.. ❤ Especially that first note they did together. I think a lot of people need to take so much focus off of him & look at them BOTH but great reaction though, there's nothing wrong with your opinion at all. 👍🏻

I took music theory back in college, my instructor was a 60 year old Opera singer, still performing at his age and was the head of the entire music department and co-designer of the music building at our college. He once told our class "Musicians and singers are like sluts...", unless your name is well known and people are coming specifically to a concert for you "...they'll take virtually anything that pays." And that has been true for every musician/singer i've ever known that is actually decent enough to perform. IDK what Charlotte and Jonathan have been up to in the years since this audition, but as long as he can still sing well and people know he can, he won't have any trouble making money.

When they sing this song in the finals, not only do they both look amazing, but Charlotte sings a million times better. Jonathan is of course still great. It's really worth a listen to see what she's capable of.

Oh MrLBoyd I agree with you. I don’t think you were being disrespectful, the woman had a lovely voice, she is a great singer. But he is a world class singer on another level. You were completely correct, he needed to be matched with someone who could complement his magnificent voice at the same level. No shade to her at all. She has a lovely voice, but he’s the star of that duo.
She did admit he was her step up but she did get him there as his pacifier now she a minor on the stage show scene he is massive in Italy and way bigger success than Paul Potts

I hope by now you’ve heard more of them together. Something most people don’t realize is that most times in a large performance space, it’s hard to hear yourself and your partner correctly because of the acoustics. That’s usually solved by either a small feedback speaker in front of them, facing the back of the stage, or an earpiece. They didn’t have that for this audition. Once she had that available to her, she was perfect and more confident. I can also tell you as a longtime singer and musician, the hardest number of parts to play in tune is two. Once you have three or more, the sound coalesces and blends. Again, acoustics; physics. Once you can hear each other clearly, it gets a lot easier.
Agree 100% with you she did get better but he is a super star I have all his music. He was bullied in school she stood up for him their friendship I think blinds him to the fact that she can't compare to him. They made a few recordings together it was OK but he went on and took the world he is amazing. Please listen to his music.
