Paul, humble, talented, won this first edition of BGT and he got the successful career he deserved. He had performed in amateur productions before this appearance and has since done so professionally and has released seven albums.
I was pulling for this guy from the moment I saw him on this show. Soft spoken and humble. I have since purchased some of his music. He is very good. ❤☮
Paul Potts is an AMAZING vocalist.. I had his CD's back in the day, during my college years in 2009. This man's rendition of so many songs make me cry every time, you can feel the passion for the art in every note he sings. Give them a listen
Britt, this was the first year of Britain's Got Talent. Paul Potts won the Show (2007) and has continued a fine career to this day. He's currently in New Zealand. The early years of Britain's Got Talent set the stage for Talent Shows to start up all over the world. This was Paul Potts audition. There were three performances which captured the attention of people all over the world and made looking at these type shows a MUST watch! This one and you have already seen another one, Susan Boyle's audition. So, you need to see the third audition. It was someone who was edged out in the voting for the two finalists in 2007. You must be thinking, "Paul was tremendous. Who did something that would have almost edged him out to be the winner?" Her name is Connie Talbot and she sang 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' a cappella. You could hear a pin drop during her performance. Oh, Connie was 6 years old ! She is now 22 and continues to sing and play the piano. Simon openly credits Connie for being the one artist who opened the door for all the Talent Shows around the world to enjoy the successes they have had.
Paul sang the full version, here in this video there are a few cuts and it's shortened by quite a lot of the verse. At the beginning, as he sings Nessun dorma twice, then the verse continues, but here they cut it and put the chorus straight in because it's more familiar among people and it's spectacular.
yep he was a unknown back then. He wasn't an amateur of course he was a professional singer, and was actually taught by some of the best opera singers in the world, but down to it, he was an unknown who didn't look like an opera singer, and was just working in some store, who did opera once in a while at the theatre.
The way I took the "lump of coal becoming a diamond" comment was the beauty comes from the pressure, and then becomes the shining jewel. Just my humble opinion.
You shouldn't be surprised that there is a Britain's Got Talent. The whole franchise was developed by Simon Cowell in the UK in 2005. It's now broadcast in 194 countries worldwide with 72 of those countries having their own regional version - including the USA.
LOL not only the USA and England have this kind of show but almost every country around the globe also we in Germany have this show since 2002. And that's before your offshoot.
This is an excellent cover of Nessun Dorma. HOWEVER, there is excellent then there is Luciano Pavarotti. Listen to Luciano sing Nessun Dorma and you will not be able to explain why you are in tears. Watch the video from 'The Three Tenors I Concert'. Save time at the end to catch your breath. This was a shortened version.
I did too. Almost as if she was saying he was yet to become sensational, AND that he needed outside help to get there. He was a diamond the minute he walked on stage. Excellent vocals and so much emotion.
Honestly you are one of the best reaction channels on RUclips and the amount of content you put out shows you are obviously working your ass off. Here’s hoping you have great success because you deserve it.
EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS LATER...............and Paul was a Star. Simon was also smiling because he knew he would be his Manager $$$$$$$$$$ The comment about a "lump of coal becoming a small diamond" relates to Paul's Welsh Mining Background where THe Coal Industry WAS the main Industry back in the day and Diamonds are also found in mines(though not in Welsh mines) lol
This was the first season of BGT and Paul was the first winner. The girl is Amanda Holden, who has been a judge since the beginning and has always been the 'nice judge' to Simon's mean judge.
React to the master himself: Luciano Pavarotti in the three tenors: Nessun Dorma! He is the gold standard for this song! Paul‘s performance was ok (don‘t get me wrong - I couldn‘t do it!), but „I just didn‘t feel it“. When you listen to Pavarotti - it‘s an emotional rollercoaster!
I agree Pavarotti is a master, but I prefer this version, and I think Paul Potts is one of my favorite singers. There is no question that technically Pavarotti is a better opera singer. But this version, you can hear the pain, the struggle, in Paul Potts' voice. Think about it, you want to be a singer, grew up where people did not just tell you you wouldn't, but that you where less then. You have a bad love life, and you find a soulmate to marry. Things are looking great, then you get in a car accident. You have no money, and you start to think the dream will not happen. You get a chance to sing one last time to a national audience, and then, go and support your family. This will be the only opportunity you ever have to show people you were talented. And then, BOOM, runaway success. A man who society said should not have even tried WON. Yeah, that version may not have been as technically good as Pavarotti, but it meant way more than any version he sang.
NOW you are ready for SUSAN BOYLE auditioning on the same show and look at the Panel AND members of the audience BEFORE she sang a note and watch to the VERY end..
Loved your reaction! I agree with you about the "lump of coal becoming a diamond" comment! I'm sure she meant well. He had a beautiful voice, didn't he?
I’m not sure she was referring to his looks, that’s far-fetched. She may have not meant to be insulting, but I always thought her comment came across as patronising. He was already a diamond with his singing abilities. He just needed their opportunities and name to back him. I’d say talent is something to be much prouder of.
If you fancy trying something different. The Voice France. PSAUME DE DAVID by Batista Aquaviva. I think it was a 4 chair turn. A religious piece half way through she breaks into the most beautiful unearthly tone I have ever heard come out of a human. I think it is a whistle tone but whatever it is unique and breathtaking.
I think they cut the performances a lot in editing, in this first ever year of Britian’s Got Talent. He did win this first year, and he’s now worth 10 million.
hehe its interesting that you say, does Britain have a Britian's got talent, that is the original show, Simon Cowell owns the franchise through his company Syco Entertainment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syco_Entertainment

You need to see the person who made "Nessun dorma" famous, Luciano Pavarotti. He is the gold standard that everyone else is compared to.
Well I mean come on, Pavarotti is “the” gold standard of tenors period!
And despicably knocked by the so-called Opera elite. A Holes.
I love Paul potts singing. Lovely thanks
I saw this when it first came out, and was so touched by his talent and humility.

Here you have it folks: ruclips.net/video/dDEnKjYjDNc/видео.html
You'll love BGT Susan Boyle I Dreamed a Dream.
A superstar is born.

They also made a movie about paul, his life, great movie

He wound up winning the competition and actually performed before Queen
Elizabeth.
He is now one of the biggest in the business! Such a transforming from anonym to megastar in opera!

Luciano was a trained expert, this guy worked in carphone warehouse lol
Her name is Amanda Holden. Although I too always found the coal analogy a bit cringy, she is an absolute sweetheart of a lady.
I did too. Almost as if she was saying he was yet to become sensational, AND that he needed outside help to get there. He was a diamond the minute he walked on stage. Excellent vocals and so much emotion.
Nessun Dorma with a Welsh accent- one of the greatest arias of all time. Just glorious
Welsh accent.... Paul Potts was born in Bristol, England. He is an English tenor!
@@michellerivlin8441 Have you been Bristol?!- it the nearest thing to being Welsh the English have!
Paul and Susan Boyle are true over night sensations from the show
Isso é sensacional!
Como e ótimo ver alguém desacreditado , chegar com humildade e arrebentar!
Isso deixa qualquer um feliz!
The first countrys got talent comp the first winner the first audition THIS GUY IS OG.
I think the Got Talent program started in Britain.
Honestly you are one of the best reaction channels on RUclips and the amount of content you put out shows you are obviously working your ass off. Here’s hoping you have great success because you deserve it.
I agree!

You have to check out Pavarotti singing this. It is simply amazing. Just found you today. I love your reactions and will come back for more.
And yes, it changed his life. He sang for the queen. He’s still going.
Yesss!! Check out the Luciano Pavarotti’s performance of the song. It’s honestly a spiritual experience 😌
He won the whole thing
BGT was the original. Simon brought it to the US
And as usual america pretends it's first lol
BGT is the first Got Talent. People travel from all ower the world to enter there!
This was the first season of BGT and Paul was the first winner. The girl is Amanda Holden, who has been a judge since the beginning and has always been the 'nice judge' to Simon's mean judge.
❤
Nice review! Thanks, yes-his life was forever changed.

Just an aside… Britain’s Got Talent started the whole “got talent” shebang. It was Simon’s production.
Never knew there's a "Britain's got Talent"???
Check out the version with 2 of the guys from Home Free doing it also.If you didnt, watch the end of the Chris Stapleton Justin Timberlake video also.
Loved your reaction! I agree with you about the "lump of coal becoming a diamond" comment! I'm sure she meant well. He had a beautiful voice, didn't he?
He was the first!
Excellent reaction
It was Britain's got talent that stated they talent shows🤦♂️😂😂😂
Paul went on to win BGT and had a nice professional career afterwards….
Had? He's still going strong.
How insulting for Amanda to call him "a little lump of coal". She's just basically saying "you're ugly, but one day you'll be a great singer."
I’m not sure she was referring to his looks, that’s far-fetched. She may have not meant to be insulting, but I always thought her comment came across as patronising. He was already a diamond with his singing abilities. He just needed their opportunities and name to back him. I’d say talent is something to be much prouder of.
Another audition to watch is Alice Fredenham, My Funny Valentine.
AND YES HE WON.
I love your diversity. I think Amanda had an out of body experience on this one.
His story was made into a film.
Great Reaction 🙏👍👣
You need to listen to @Jonantoine singing "Nessun Dorma" in his Livingroom at 2 AM. To make his Fantoines happy 😊🌹🎼

Hey. Like your reaction videos. Maybe you could watch Lara Fabian - Je t'aime - Live in Paris, 2001. I think you will like that.
If you have a chance watch James Brown and Luciano Pavarotti duet sing It's a man's world.
After Paul won BGT from this performance didn't they make a movie about him? That was what I had heard anyway.
The movie is "One Chance".
I think they cut the performances a lot in editing, in this first ever year of Britian’s Got Talent. He did win this first year, and he’s now worth 10 million.
Greg Pritchard performed this song on BGT the following year. You should check that. (I'm restraining myself from spoilers.)
Could you take a look at Brian Justin Crum. He did Radioheads on one of these shows, it's mind blowing!
Princess...if you want to see a performance very funny....go to see...Stavros Flatley on Britain's got Talent 2009 . It's Amazing !✌️
i haven't looked this up i'm just going by name recognition here and memory, is that the lord of the dance guy that we all love so much? and mini-me?
Is that Michael's Brother and does he do THe Irish Jig?
nice tenor
(better than 2 fivors?)
Paul has had a successful career ...
And spoiler. He won. 😊
Sorry I hit the down thumb by mistake! But I fixed it!
Colleen, PLEASE....lol
Please React Laura Fabian, je suis malade, Danks
I think Martin Hurkens - nessun dorma - Holland's Got Talent 2010 is better.
Perché ne ha cantato solo la metà ??
They edited parts out, unfortunately. They kept the most climactic part of the song in there.
He should have stuck to selling mobile phones, that was really not very good at all 😫
