    This guy is the best reviewer hands down. He has a real natural talent. Also, the EcoDiesel is pretty impressive. I'm a pretty big Ford fan but I may very well buy a used one of these.

    I have seen a lot of reviews of the Ram truck, but this is by far the most informative and articulate. This guy is a natural talent. And yes, diesels are great, but do come with the occasional extra cost over petrol, on the maintenance side. But the power curve and ease of power delivery is the main attraction. But diesel fuel should definitely be cheaper, or petrol more expensive, whichever way works. Some drivers are subsidising others, by appearances. In my country (NZ) diesel is way cheaper than petrol, so they impose an extra charge to make it even out. But I dislike the smell of diesel fuel on the hands when refilling...

    As a new owner of a used (2015) eco diesel, I can vouch for the quality and performance of this truck. I've put just over 4000 miles on mine now and it does up to 31 mpg hwy (level interstate at 65 mph) 29.5 routine hwy 60-65 mph, 25-27 city (small town, few stoplights, mostly just slow speeds and stop signs) and what's best: 18.5 mpg pulling a 5000 lb trailer on regular highway. Oddly enough, best mileage is achieved at speeds over 60 mph. It loves to cruise at 65.

    • @Fr8hustler

      How long did you keep your Ram? Would you still recommend them? I’m looking at a 2015? How was maintenance? Thank you for any help..

    • @mic982
      @mic982 2 года назад +3

      @@Fr8hustler I still have mine and yes, I do recommend them if you want better mileage without any loss of power. I believe the eco-diesel has more torque for pulling than any gas engine offering in the Ram line. Heck, it has more torque and power than my 2001 Dodge with the 360 ci V-8 Magnum engine and >double the mileage. I'm keeping mine until time to trade in for a new one, maybe next year.

    • @mic982
      @mic982 2 года назад +2

      @@Fr8hustler As far as maintenance goes, I did lose the EGR cooler and had to have it repaired. Chrysler reimbursued me $3000 (equip recall) and gave me an extended warranty to have it re-flashed, for what had cost me around $2100. The new Rams have the new EGR cooler and should be fine. Nothing else has ever broken. 137,300 miles and counting.

    • @Fr8hustler
      @Fr8hustler 2 года назад

      @@mic982 Thank you for the information. I’m seriously considering purchasing one. I also heard that there was a problem with some type of exhaust vapors entering the cabin on the eco diesel. Is this something you have experienced as well?

    • @mic982
      @mic982 2 года назад +2

      @@Fr8hustler No, not yet. I did forget to mention that at 136,000 give or take, I had the front brakes relined due to some pulsating when stopping. The rear were still at 60%. I pull a travel trailer a lot so I wasn't at all surprised it was time to do the brakes. It's hard for me to think of anything to complain about. I love the power and the quietness of the engine and esp the fuel economy.

    I've owned Dodges (now RAM), have a Dodge and have a fond hatred for Dodge / RAM but they nailed it with this truck.
    You don't see Diesels in the lower end models since manufactures think it would hurt sales of 2500 / 3500 models and people won't pay the extra cost for the Diesel in a 1500 model. I never agreed with this mentality.
    It's nice you can get the Diesel even in a base model work truck.
    The Cummins is going to show up in the Tundra & Titan. Good luck with the Reynold's Wrap F-150 Ford.

      no repairs are cheap these days, but for some reason 2500 and 3500 are still picking Diesel over gas

    • @davidcd396
      @davidcd396 10 лет назад +1

      cancercell1
      A fuel system failure alone can easily cost $10,000+. If that causes a domino effect that turns into an emissions system problem, that cost can double. Yes, repairs aren't cheap these days, but anything diesel will be far more expensive.
      As far as why 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are mostly diesels, there's really no gas alternative these days. Big block gas engines started vanishing just before the emissions systems started crippling diesels. Diesels are the only choice for people that need to tow large loads. With that said, the smaller gas engines are still popular with fleets because they're cheaper and simpler. If they don't have to have diesel, many will go for gas fleets. I bet if they offered cheaper big blocks again, or if they offered something like a larger Ecoboost V8, that would greatly eat into diesel sales.
      Believe it or not, there are a lot of truck people that prefer gasoline.

    • @Wesley-je2fn
      @Wesley-je2fn 10 лет назад

      dave cd CNG is also becoming pretty popular with fleets. People are doing what they can to get away from the Emissions crap that diesels are being killed with.

    it's not just pickups that need a diesel... all 4 wheel drives should come with a diesel.

  • @tcddave25
    @tcddave25 10 лет назад +11

    If you tow a trailer? I don't know. If I mainly do highway runs? Absolutely not.
    Diesel is about $0.50-$1.00 more per gallon where I live. If I don't do much heavy towing, and if i'm just playing with highway numbers (25 mpg gas vs 27 mpg diesel), the gasoline Pentastar will actually save me the most at the pump, not the diesel. And then there's the cost of maintenance and repairs. The Ecodiesel only gets more expensive from there. Mind you, this on top of the $4,500 premium for the diesel option.
    I've owned many trucks with gas and diesel engines. I AM a truck guy. But diesels DO NOT always have a benefit. Not every truck guy will go on and on about how every truck should have a diesel

    • @cancercell1
      @cancercell1 10 лет назад +2

      if you don't do much towing then i don't know why you're buying a pick up truck. Chances are, you'll be better off with a Van like Ford transit connect.

    • @tcddave25
      @tcddave25 10 лет назад +4

      The overwhelming majority people do not tow with their trucks on a regular basis.
      But whatever. It still comes down to a question of money.

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight 10 лет назад +2

      cancercell1 Well, with that reasoning, Ram shouldn't even be offering a base V6. There's actually no rule here, but PICKUPS are primarily used to PICK UP things, not pull things.

    • @Eatmykellogs
      @Eatmykellogs 10 лет назад +1

      You should be getting better range per tank with a diesel though. It's a little more expensive to fill up with diesel, but if you're making fewer trips to the gas station, does it make it worth it?
      Edmunds says the EcoDiesel can get up to 600 miles of range on a tank. Surprisingly, I couldn't find info for the V6 or HEMI, but I'm guessing they get around 300.
      So does that mean you'll run out of gas twice as fast compared to a diesel? If you're making half as many trips then diesel seems worth it to me.
      I may be wrong in my thinking though, so let me know.

    • @checkers7166
      @checkers7166 10 лет назад

      Garzanberg What are the tank sizes for these trucks? Aren't they all the same? If you're only getting 2 mpg better with the Ecodiesel over the Pentastar, and if the tank sizes are the same, you shouldn't be getting double the range.

    I liked the review that he gave on the ecodiesel and how it towed, the only thing missing was what the fuel economy the truck was getting when it was towing. Every review I have come across, they don't state the numbers. I know it's got to be better then gas. Does anyone have any real world numbers on towing fuel mileage?

  • @Slowroll90
    @Slowroll90 7 лет назад

    The air bag suspension does not act like a load equalizing hitch, it does in no way spread the load to the front. It only increases the pressure in the rear air bags to lift it to level effectively increasing the spring rate. But any trailer that would need an equalizer hitch on a conventional truck would need one on here too. Great review but that part he said is just not true.

    With a Ram you can't go wrong with either of the 3 power trains but i personally would prefer a 2500 Diesel or a Hemi 5.7 gas 1500. It won truck of the year twice in a row for a reason, The Chevy got North American award but just doesn't compare and the Ford F series just doesn't stand a chance against any.

      Have you ever tired to drive a hummer, old or new, in Monte Carlo? These American pick ups are huge, and to make things worse, these are the small versions... The 2500-3500 are bigger and longer because they are made for towing large objects. Europe has the small vans because they can travel around Europe's narrow roads

      Tomaz Hilton So you're saying that the Sprinter is small? Or that everyone in Europe lives in tight cities like Monte Carlo? These trucks are mainly meant to be used in rural environments. You know, by farmers, maintenance workers, lumberjacks, etc. Why would you drive a RAM in Monte Carlo, lol. You could drive one if you live on a farm in the Swiss mountains.

      Skyler91 Tomaz Hilton Protector of the Republic I'm from Stockholm, Sweden and I see American trucks pretty much everyday. Ram's are definitely the most popular and Im starting to see the new Silverado more regularly. American trucks are much more popular in Scandinavia than in the rest of Europe tho for some reason.

    Our company bought 6 of these eco junk trucks and all except 1 is already on its 2nd motor and 1 is on its 3rd, and all are under 100,000 miles, junk in my opinion, probably should have bought the 5.7 hemis instead, or they should have gotten Cummins to make the engine not fiat

    I just think that they made so much cost in these trucks that 2023 year they can’t even sell a car or truck ! I for one not buying a new truck that is more expensive and gets less fuel mileage than what I have ! They they are crazy every thing comfy luxury in a vehicle so what to much cost to drive ! Oh yea insurance is overpriced and thing are only getting worse!

      I agree. Also, he says it's the best looking truck, but it has looked the same since 1994. That's 20 years of the same styling, and this isn't even a Porsche.

      Yes Americans have wanted a diesel half ton for decades. Ram finally made one, nissan and Toyota and Chevy are soon, ford hasn't announced anything but I'm sure they will as well.

    It is also very hard to start a diesel engine in the winter here. It can get to -30 C (I think about -38 F?) quite easily.
