    Just rented this lens and it’s amazing. I love the way it renders images. I mostly do sports or other type events where I don’t always have the luxury of desired space. This might just be the lens to have for any event shooters where that zoom flexibility is key

    Awesome video. As a professional photographer myself I much rather watch videos like this about real world experiences then reviews about the specs. Really appreciate this video thank you and I'm subscribing too. Cheers from Canada.

      Really appreciate the feedback! And absolutely agreed - tech specs have their place but I’m WAY more interested in how things actually work in the field.

    Been considering this lens ever since it came out for its versatility. I carry an 85mm & 35mm on two bodies for almost all my professional work and this lens alone could get the job done in many of those situations. 28-70mm eliminates the need for a wide prime but like you say, since 70mm doesn't get close enough on a wedding, I'd even go longer than 85mm on another body like 100mm or above.

    THANK YOU! I was struggling to find someone who also shoots with the 35mm/85mm combo to see how the 28-70mm might fit in. I rented it and felt like I would go back to having just one body (GASP!!) but would probably keep the 35mm on me as a backup. I rented it for two shoots and felt like you could be more 'in the moment' because you're not worrying about changing lenses, you're just shooting things as they happen.

      You are so welcome!! Absolutely feel the same way…never thought I’d like a zoom lens as much as my 35 1.4 but goodness this lens is close 😍

    Great video. why don't you use the 24-70mm. Most reviews I see swear by the 24-70 for weddings but it does do it for me. You're about the only person I've seen who doesn't really use it. I was curious to your reasoning? I think it's the same reason as mine but still curious?

    Great video Josh, I’ve been thinking to rent one to try it too, but now after your video I want to buy it. 😂 thanks for share 🙏🏼

    Great review Josh. Since you don’t use your macro much what do you regularly use to take wedding detail photos where you might have used your macro in the past?

      Thanks for watching! And great question...honestly I've been using a mix between my 35mm 1.4 which can actually focus pretty close, as well as just stepping back and zooming in a bit on 24-70 or even using an 85 for more compression - it tends to work really well and I haven't really missed the full-on macro capabilities.

    So you had to switch to the f/1.4 primes because you wanted the extra stop of light. Don't you use flash?

    For videos I'm worried about the focusing noises :/

      @joshrexford  4 месяца назад

      In my experience using it, I haven't had ANY issues with that - but you could totally rent it for a week and try it out on some projects and see how/if the AF noise impacts anything in your workflow!

    Would you take this lens over your 35mm and 85mm combo?

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  2 года назад

      Oof that’s a GREAT question. Over the EF 35/85 combo, possibly! Once canon has an RF 35 though I feel like the 35/85 would still be a preference. But ideally…all three 😅

    Hi I just subbed to your profile, love your content. Just wanted to know why are you ditching all EF glass? As I saw from YT difference between high-end RF and high-end EF is minimal. Also there is no difference in auto-focus as well. And now prices for used EF are 2x-3x less then RF. For me EF is more logical route. Would love to hear your opinion on this one?
    P.S. Love that R3, thinking of getting one 😊

      Thanks so much! So I'm currently still all on EF glass and it's working fairly well! However, after using the RF 28-70 f/2 for that Scotland elopement, I really fell in love with that lens and will end up purchasing that sometime in 2023. As for the rest of the kit, eventually I'd love to not have to worry about the mount but the EF kit I have currently is still working great and I'm in no major rush to switch things over other than for the convenience of having native lenses/no mount. But the 28-70 is a definite will-buy, even if I keep running the rest of my EF kit alongside that lens. Hope that helps!

    This lens is so tempting. I'd rather have this lens than the 24-70 f2.8. Seems to get the full range; I'd need the 15-35 f2.8; the 28-70 f2.0, the 70-200 f2.8; a prime 85mm f1.2 in addition to my 24-105 f4.0... Then work 5 more years than I had planned to avoid bankruptcy. Ok now, Scotland. I was feeling a bit sorry for the couple as a cold rain like that would be a disaster here, but there, I admit, the scenery and setting were fantastic.

    May I ask if the R3 and R6 color science matches up pretty well?

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  Год назад

      I'd say I definitely like the R3 overall BETTER than the R6, specifically in terms of color. Compared to the R3, the R6 feels a bit warmer overall and a bit less punchy on the highlights/whites (honestly kind of how the 6DII felt compared to the 1DXII or the 5DIV if you've shot with those). Nothing BAD or unable to be recovered, but I absolutely prefer the R3 image to the R6.

    I rented it before. Very good lens, but way too bulky for me and really hard to find filters for that size. I actually wouldn’t mind if they came out with a 35-70 f2 if they can make it a bit smaller.

      @joshrexford  2 года назад +1

      I’d be all for a 35-70! Especially if it was a bit lighter/thinner 🙌🏼

    Great video. I returned my RF 50mm F1.2L & RF 24-70mm F2.8L in favor of this lens. It costs less than the two mentioned combined and even weighs less than those two combined. Yes, I love 24mm and F1.2, but in the end, I'm happy with my compromise.

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  2 года назад

      Many thanks! I feel like that’s a great compromise…not a huge loss in DOF and to get it all in one lens, big win 🙌🏼

      @@joshrexford I have most of the RF lineup and i can tell you that i definitely keep my 35 1.8 with me. It’s a great lens. It gives a very different look from the RF 28-70 at 35mm.
