    I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I make easy and practical cantonese learning videos for complete beginners to intermediate level.
    My full time job is a flight attendant. I enjoy studying foreign languages. My job allows me to visit many places and meet many people. So that I have more chances to practice what I have learned.
    Due to the covid, I haven't fly regularly for over a year. I find RUclips is extremely helpful for maintaining my language proficiency. One day, out of curiosity, I looked for cantonese learning channels. I was so surprised that there are so little and most of the good one are even from overseas. That's why I started "5 minute cantonese" on 2020.

    I am from Canada. I watched lesson 1 and 2. They are amazingly simple. Thanks to the great teacher. 5 minutes a day is perfect for me. My dream is to be able to order food in Chinese restaurants and eventually (in a few years 🙂) watch Hong Kong movies, especially old Bruce Lee movies, all in Cantonese.

    I like learning languages, besides English as my 2nd language, I learned a bit of French, German, Thai Mandarin, and currently actively learning Japanese. I must say your method is really good and you are an excellent teacher. Two lessons and I remember everything, more than what I picked up after half a dozens trips to HK. I was going to do Korean next, but thinking I might do Cantonese now, even though I may not have much use for it, the few Cantonese dramas I've seen are horrible, they suck big time haha.

    Those courses are very snackable and have great entertaining content. What kind of romanisation is being used though?
    佢 would be keoi5 in Jytuping and not cui5. Is the Yale system used here?

      I am using jyutping in all my current lessons. Since this one is my first video 3 years ago. I was trying to mix and match for easier understanding for everyone. But as time went by. I realized there are lots of people who really learning Cantonese in a very serious manner. So I standardized to jyutping. Sorry for the confusion.

    An update after revisiting your channel. I absolutely hate the system of using numbers to denote the tones, both for Mandarin and for Cantonese. Umm... it's the second tone ... huh? what the heck is number 2 tone?...hate it! I'll never get used to this system. I prefer the old systems with the diacritical marks, very intuitive and my brain picks it up a lot faster that way. Anyhow, you're still a great teacher and your method is still very good, (maybe I'll watch you more if you use the diacritics instead of numbers...haha).

    Hi, can i check for the last sentence when you say "i am english" in cantonese, why did the pronunciation of the lai become lei? 5:06

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your question. The pronunciation of 嚟 is lai4. In spoken Cantonese, we can say lai4 or lei4. Both of them are okay.😉
