I'm a life long Kentucky fan but I must admit I was fighting back tears watching this. They did him wrong back then, so I was very happy that he went back to IU and got his flowers before his passing. Rest in peace coach!
and that is a sign of the great ones.....Tarheel fan admiring this great coach. Same as with Dean Smith, Coach K.....legends.....and will be admired by fans across the spectrum.
Iconic moment for the Hoosiers fans and Indiana University. Bob knight loved his students, loved the game of basketball, loved to Coach , loved molding teenage boys into young men , loved that his students all graduated, most of all he loved to win. The world lost a tremendous life force. Rest in Paradise Mr. Knight.
What a moment in time. So glad that he was able to come to Indiana a few years ago and reconcile with the University and the fan base after what happened there. He was The General and one of the greatest to ever teach Xs and Os on the hardwood.
The most unfortunate part is the animosity was so one-sided for many years. Most of the fans knew from the beginning that Coach was getting you-know-what-ed by the University when he was fired, and those that didn’t figured it out pretty quickly. Even the University wanted to invite him back a long time ago. I’m glad he was ultimately able to get to a point where he was ready to come back.
I cried from start to finish. He remains a hero. Loved watching his teams play. Loved his candor. His post game press conferences were epic. The stories of both his charitable endeavors and unrelenting goodwill to friends/players in need r only matched by his coaching brilliance. R.I.P. Coach Knight.
I'm a 62 year old grown man and I get just a little weepy watching this. Lifelong Michigan fan but just love this man and what he stood for. 98% graduation rate is all you need to know about him besides his tough, wining nature. He brought the best out in every player. I LOVE that he was able to return and participate in this honor. He certainly was a force of nature. I hope he received everything in life he could have hoped for.
Folks can call Coach Bob Knight crazy if they want to but at the end of the day, each time he coached neither of his programs had a single NCAA recruiting violation and the players he coached always had high graduation rates. The younger generations today outside of Generation X could never survive playing under a head coach like Bob Knight. Being a competitor in his era meant that you have to be hard core in demanding the best team playing attitude out of everyone and the hardest work from the entire team.
@@gregorydryden7865 Take a look at kids today. Tell me the difference between when bobby coached and what we see today. I am not just talking about basketball. i am talking about being real men in real life. Todays players and kids are what can you do for me kids and Sissy's. Cry and talk trash on a phone or social media. I grew up in that time of bobby. Played under men like him. I am better for it and work my ass off everyday. Tell me how the world looks to you with these sissy kids we have today.
It's kind of sad seeing him just sort of shuffle along. I can tell by looking at him here, his Dementia was really advancing, I'm dealing with it now , my wife has it strongly, she's about the same age he was , 82+ now. I go day by day with her, sometimes ok, other times, she is like another person. Attitude and mood swings, whew!, Happy New Year, everyone.
General, we Hoosiers failed to appreciate your brilliance, integrity, and courage. As a native Hoosier, I am glad that you were indeed vindicated, with the adoration, respect and gratitude for your contributions to Indiana's sport programs and sporting philosophy. May you rest in peace and know that you were a great man, leader, and mentor, for more than just your players, but for kids in all walks of life.
I grew up in Indiana as a kid in the 80s. Those cold winter nights when IU had a game during the week, my parents would let me stay up late to watch the game on Channel 4 in Indianapolis. Watching this was definitely a gut punch. Made me realize how great those times were and what a privilege it was to grow up as an IU fan. May the Hoosiers return to their former glory.
@@tbprofile1295 It was massive. It was all over the news. People would line up early in the morning at filming locations just to be "extras." It was a huge deal for the state, for obvious reasons. lol
We need team players. Not people looking for stats, etc. Coach won with the best team. Only 1 NBA all star (Isiah). Benson, Buckner, Alford NBA. Just not long careers.
People say “he abused his players”. Yeah. That’s why many loved him. And he always told them “Let me know if you need anything.” And “I expect a lot of you as a player. So you should expect a lot of me as your coach.” 98% graduation rate. Made men at IU. Thank you Coach. Welcome home. RIP #OurCoach #OurIndiana
Coach Knight also called Steph Curry the best passer he ever saw in college basketball in 2008 when he was playing for Davidson and no one wanted him. He showed a few examples of why he felt that way.
I think regardless of anything he would say or do to stir up controversy, and with his temper outbursts, he was one of the most consistent winners, and Id like to think rhat anyone who played for him, regardless of their own backgrounds or family situations, came out better and more rounded young men, overall and on to successful careers in various different fields

We all had a coach that we loved to play for that drove us harder, that barked at us harder, that made us better. Coach Knight was one of those coaches. My favorite line: Coach Knight post game, gets asked by a young reporter, "Coach how do you think the Hoosiers lost this game?" Coach Knight: after one of his long pauses: "Son, if you looked up at the scoreboard at the end of the game, the University of Indiana had fewer points than our opponent.....that's how you lose a ball game!" Classic Bob Knight!!

I know it's passed, but why wasn't Steve Alford there on that day, maybe he was coaching a game, don't know, but he should've been there, just an opinion.
@@insidethehallvideo He still should have been there. Steve was a HUGE part of Indiana basketball, and even though Keith Smart hit that winning basket in the 1987 championship game, it it hadn't been for Steve's awesome three point shooting, IU wouldn't have been in the game.
