Much respect to Larry for squashing that controversy with Rodman/ Isiah. All he cared about was playing ball. Media is always trying to stir up stuff. Bird is a REAL man.
For real though, if even half of the current NBA players had the mindset about the game and how they approach it like these 3 did, the game would be in a much better place.

@@giantkiller56 That entire thing in 1987 was said by Rodman ... that if Bird were black he'd just be considered another great/good player -- which is true because Rodman's commentary was about how the media depicted black players vs. Larry Bird, a white guy who is not supposed to be this good but if he were black, he'd get treated like just another great/good player...it's the truth but nobody explained it well and Bird wasn't even thinking like that and he knows and knew Isiah was being sarcastic and joking as if to say, 'yeah right...' but Thomas repeated what he was told Rodman said and instead of leaving Rodman out to dry and ruining Rodman's career, Isiah Thomas took on that baggage and was 'the bad guy' because he knew what the politics of the league were and he knew where Rodman came from and that could have destroyed Rodman's career so Thomas doesn't get credit for sticking up for his teammate....Bird didn't think much of it and neither did Thomas or Rodman, just the media trying to make something out of nothing...guess what? They still don't talk about how Bird made it public how he kept getting offended when a white guy was guarding him....Bird said that several times and yet nobody says anything negative about Bird and depicting stereotypes among white players -- which ultimately proves Rodman's point. Hearing and talking with all the old school guys in the 80's that established the game from 1979-1990 and then the guys that played into the 90's (different eras) is amazing, just to hear the different experiences, stories, and how they viewed themselves, their teams, one another and what they felt in winning/losing.
My dad was from Indiana and made me (at first) watch every one of Larry Bird's nationally televised games. I'm grateful he did. 80's and 90's basketball was the golden Era of basketball. So glad I got to watch all these guys play.

I am so happy this interview was uploaded. I couldn't see the original broadcast and really wanted to see this. It was definitely worth seeing! Larry Bird is my favorite of all time. I could listen to stories about him, and told by him, all day. Reggie Miller is great, too. He has a way about him that is very likeable...and what a shooter he was, as well! Isiah Thomas was a great guard, and he tells very entertaining stories. This was just awesome! ❤️
I've met Jalen Rose a few times and he absolutely loves Larry Bird, met him again in Vegas week of the Superbowl and he gave me the inside scoop of where to go to see Larry Bird at the All Star festivities and that it would be open to the public, unfortunately I wasn't able to go to Indy.
Imagine being in a same room with one of the greatest shooters and one of the greatest point guards of all time, having over an hour discussion, and you hear constantly how the first one pattern his game of you, because you are one of his idols and the second one having such an admiration and respect for you, that he literally takes notes on your every possession and dreamed to be on your level. That's Larry Legend for you.
The over-politicization and propaganda on ESPN and in the NBA turned me off to the latter. Didn't regret it at all. My brother would ask me if I was interested in going to a game or if I was watching the playoffs, and I'd firmly say, "No. Don't care." Hearing Bird talk about how basketball brings a small town community together, Isaiah speaking on the spirituality of Indiana hoops, reminds me of the beauty of the game. Which can absolutely be enjoyed on a local level, high school, college. I needed that reminder. Looking forward to March Madness. Grateful for your words, Larry and Isaiah. P.S. - Have always enjoyed Reggie's commentary, personality, and that laugh when he admires a thunderous dunk! Good to see him here. Quite the compliment Bird paid to Reggie in how he's probably one of two Larry thought prepared well to play basketball at a great level. Nice!
12 year old me still vividly remembers game 5 in Boston, Larry coming back out in the 3rd, what an unbelievable moment that was it still gives me goosebumps. Celtics fans went from a state of despair to pure joy. Larry was getting older by then, the feeling that the run was about done was constant but when he left the game it felt all too real, it was depressing. Then he came back out and saved the day again, like he always did.
I think the thing that shines through more than anything in this is how much of a competitor Larry is, not just was, but still is. The reaction when Reggie said Jokic's name, you could tell Larry has had some thoughts about playing against him more than once. The man has (fully deserved) supreme confidence but doesn't do it in an arrogant or boisterous way, even when talking about the firing of Isiah there is no second guessing or doubts, he is just confident he made the right choice. It's that extra bit of difference that makes true champions like Larry, Magic, MJ and Bill Russell.
How can you not love Larry Bird? He is confident enough in his greatness that he doesn't need validation from others, and he is able to appreciate the current players without feeling the need to tear them down to protect his own legacy.
@@rickbackous1041 Also, it's time for the younger generations to pick it up. Not sure which players of the 00s are capable of representing the Game the same way (apart from Shaq of course). It takes a lot of personality to openly discuss your flaws etc., too, no matter how good a player you were. Perhaps Nowitzki, Gasol, Nash. LeBron for sure once he has retired. KG as a sidekick but he's too dominant to listen to for a longer period. Melo and Wade like to talk but they try to push their own narratives too much, Crawford lacks charisma/storytelling. Maybe JJ Redick can. Timmy D doesn't speak at all unfortunately 😀
It’s so awesome watching that press conference and Larry shutting those reports down in an instant. One of the humblest stars sports have ever seen. And it’s cool to see evidence from 40 years ago that he’s never changed ❤️
I think they should replace the all star game with 3 different sit downs of former players. I used to take the weekend off just for the all star weekend festivities. Now I dont even bother. Its just gonna be 40 ft shots and dunks. But I do watch the highlights.
this was awesome...i was born in Massachusetts in 1973 so I was in my sports fandom peek when Larry was in his prime...my parents used to turn the sound off on the TV and listen to Johnny Most on the play by play while watching it on the TV...it's not synched up anymore...great childhood memories
The dude is a basketball God, won everything (literally, inside and out of the court). I grew up watching Kobe and Shaq, but as a adult, looking at the sport itself, gotta admit Larry Bird is the greatest ever, no one else gets even close
Outstanding to watch! Brought back excellent memories! Those that never got a chance to see Larry Bird play words, can’t describe how great he truly was! His heart, indomitable will, clutch, made up for his lack of skill compared to others but he truly goes down to me as the greatest small forward of all time!
I was arguing with a young hooper who claimed Bird is not as skilled as Luka therefore Luka is a superior player, and I couldn't quite explain why Bird is 5 to 10 times better than Luka as a player but I made it clear he was. I also rank him above LeBron but not Jordan overall. But #1 SF of all time definitely. For me Jordan, Bird, Kobe and even Isaiah have this insane mental toughness and will to win that it bothers me is missing from LBJ when people try to label him GOAT.
Isiah Thomas has done a lot for basketball & the NBA . Him and the pistons are the reason why , NBA players have chartered flights and stay in 5 star hotels when they travel. As well as helping Stephen Jackson get reinstated back in the NBA,after the malice at the palace. AND HE BEAT LARRY BIRD , MAGIC JOHNSON, & MJ. GOING BACK TO BACK! TOP 3 PG OF ALL TIME IMO.
I love Larry’s praise for Nikola Jokic, because he honestly reminds me of Bird! High IQ, can’t speed him up, can shoot and post up, transcendent passing vision both on and off ball. They’re cut from the same cloth

Detroit born and raised and remembered these games, and I have to say. Most of the stories about Isaiah Thomas really was a not loved player, but his skill was unmatched for his size
Larry is such a humble guy. So cool to see him finally tell some of his stories. Also the mutual respect and admiration between these three is commendable. Great conversation
Just not beating Johnny Most’s call of ‘Bird Stole The Ball’. GOAT play by play call in NBA history. Absolutely iconic. “Gutless display” also by Most vs the Pistons is honorable mention.
Saturday NBA was heaven for me as a kid. Watched a lot of Bird because the Celtics as you know were always on. Bird cam back from his back injury one game and did this amazing one-handed putback jam. That was a first seeing him do that. With some thunder to it. That was it for him. The dunk was like this great phoenix rising for one last dunk.
idk about that... Larry of course, maybe Reggie (he played dirty, but you can't blame the guy, trying to win at any cost), now Thomas is definitely not a example of "grace and humility", lol
Love these shows with the GREAT older players! That was when the NBA was fun to watch! IMHO, the 3 point game took the fun out of the game for me. They say Steph changed the game. He sure did but not in a positive way for my taste. Take me back to the way Bird & Magic & Jordan & I. Thomas used to play…. now that was fun to watch!!! Great interview gentlemen!🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Reggie’s has always been one of my favorite. I didn’t get a chance to watch the other two play. Only RUclips highlights. But to me all three are legends to the game no doubt
I saw the other two play but Reggie was from their era so he brought the heat. Reggie was amazing
This was really refreshing...These are 3 gentlemen right here you can feel the respect they have for each other
"Reggie Im not thinking about the wins, i always think about the lose".. the best qoutes for those players who took their looses as the means to improve and be great

It was very fun to watch, thank you Reggie, Larry and IT, and TNT to make it happen.
Refreshing rare maturity displayed in this interview. Respectful first class gentlemen who felt no need compete for attention or interrupt like many of the popular podcasts
Larry just stares off into oblivion when Reggie and Isaiah are talking 😂😂😂
Isiah
Larry isn't into these things. Reggie probably had to convince him to do it
So great to see these guys talk hoops, especially Larry, he is such a Legend, I can listen to him talk Basketball for days.
For days and days and days
Larry's whistle after Reggie mentioned Jokic...Hot Sauce!
That competitive juice still flowing
@44:50
Not even into the 2 minutes of the video, Larry is simply savage bruh.
THATS LARRY!
“They’re used to coming off the bench”
And he said later on he wasnt too much of a trash talker 😂
That statement in its self is a form of mental cardio LOL Larry is something else man. Dudes clever as they come. @@Truthorfib
That’s Legend.
There is nothing better than getting veterans tell stories and experiences of the game...It different when u play, when u retire, u cherish those memories,,, no matter the outcome..
Hearing and talking with all the old school guys in the 80's that established the game from 1979-1990 and then the guys that played into the 90's (different eras) is amazing, just to hear the different experiences, stories, and how they viewed themselves, their teams, one another and what they felt in winning/losing.
This was such a treat to hear & see these legends chatting, like no time has passed.....I really miss 80's & 90's basketball ❤❤❤
Refreshing to have guys sitting and just having a normal conversation and not yelling like children.
That’s what separates the men from the boys.
Like Chuck and Shaq?😂

Because this isn't a debate show guys their reminiscing
Larry’s story about Reggie and his wife 😂😂😂
You see more heart and hustle in this video than the last 20 years of NBA
More heart in Bird's concussion game and Isiah's sprained ankle game than LeBron's entire career.
I concur
@@thsu8 which reminds me of the likes of Dwayne or Davis leaving court on wheelchair....
Obviously you didn't watch the likes of Kobe, Duncan and KG in the past 20 years. Had you said 5, it would make more sense.
My dad was from Indiana and made me (at first) watch every one of Larry Bird's nationally televised games. I'm grateful he did. 80's and 90's basketball was the golden Era of basketball. So glad I got to watch all these guys play.
"Who's going to come in second?"
I like it😂😂
I always enjoy listening stories like Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Isiah Thomas so informative and funny stories.
Now this is a legendary conversation right here
They’ll never be another Larry Bird. Like the Legend said, he showed up every night and gave 100%. No load management whatsoever.
They need more of these legend stories. I can listen and watch these stories for hours.
List of legend stories I want to hear
-Magic,Larry and Mj
-Shaq,Admiral,Hakeem,Ewing
-Duncan,KG,Cwebb,Rasheed and Dirk
I am so happy this interview was uploaded. I couldn't see the original broadcast and really wanted to see this. It was definitely worth seeing! Larry Bird is my favorite of all time. I could listen to stories about him, and told by him, all day. Reggie Miller is great, too. He has a way about him that is very likeable...and what a shooter he was, as well! Isiah Thomas was a great guard, and he tells very entertaining stories.
This was just awesome! ❤️
yeah, watching his highlights make me wish I was rooting for the Pacers more.
Don't care."
Hearing Bird talk about how basketball brings a small town community together, Isaiah speaking on the spirituality of Indiana hoops, reminds me of the beauty of the game.
Best sports interview ever. Period.
Just lovely! Reggie is a very good host, Bird and Isiah feel genuine, real. Just lovely!
When i saw Larry Bird shot form i said yes finally im not the only 1 who does that 😂😂😂 thank you
How can you not love Larry Bird? He is confident enough in his greatness that he doesn't need validation from others, and he is able to appreciate the current players without feeling the need to tear them down to protect his own legacy.
Open court has to come back and having bird with the crew would be a dream
Bird and / or Jordan will never be with the crew. They know that the less they put themselves out there the more people will want them.
Timmy D doesn't speak at all unfortunately 😀

best basketball show, especially first seasons
It's so great to hear from Larry Legend! We rarely hear from him these days, hope we can hear more from him about his views on today's NBA.
This is a great show. Thanks for making it. I'd recommend this show for a true basketball fan of 80 & 90s.
It’s so awesome watching that press conference and Larry shutting those reports down in an instant. One of the humblest stars sports have ever seen. And it’s cool to see evidence from 40 years ago that he’s never changed ❤️
Awesome! I got chills just watching Larry's highlight.. He was a Baaaad Maaaan in his Day, and I witnessed it.. "Long Live Larry Legend"
YOU SEE WHY BIRD IS AN LEGEND. EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T WATCH HIM PLAY, MISSED OUT! HE WAS SO AWESOME. 🤩

I think they should replace the all star game with 3 different sit downs of former players. I used to take the weekend off just for the all star weekend festivities. Now I dont even bother. Its just gonna be 40 ft shots and dunks. But I do watch the highlights.

Thank you thank you thank you. So great to see you all three now. Following you back in the 80s .
Bird outside of being one of the greatest NBA players of all time had a classic lunch pail blue collar work ethic, he always gave 100% effort.
Yep, awful back injuries and the dude was out there playing at 100% effort. If you love the sport, how can you not respect the man?
Possibly the cleverest player to play the game .Genius level IQ

this was awesome...i was born in Massachusetts in 1973 so I was in my sports fandom peek when Larry was in his prime...my parents used to turn the sound off on the TV and listen to Johnny Most on the play by play while watching it on the TV...it's not synched up anymore...great childhood memories
Great convo I love to hear 3 of the greatest players in NBA history talk about the past present and future.
This was a great interview for all 3 guys; great job Regie
The Hick from French Lick was my OG basketball idol, my childhood hero. ☝🐐🍀
Me too. Used to cry when he lost lol
HE IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE PLAYERS! ALWAYS GREAT TO SEE HIM.
The dude is a basketball God, won everything (literally, inside and out of the court). I grew up watching Kobe and Shaq, but as a adult, looking at the sport itself, gotta admit Larry Bird is the greatest ever, no one else gets even close
THANK YOU FOR POSTING TO YT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS
It just came out lol
Thank You Gentlemen for taking the time to do this conversation.
I love listening to Bird's train of thought. Very bold and effective. His stories, and wisdom.
Wow. Wow. Nice. 🤝🤝🤝
Bird Is Just A Genuine Guy!
Such a moving conversation by these legends!! loving it!
Great interview. Reggie is so humble.
I love Larry’s praise for Nikola Jokic, because he honestly reminds me of Bird! High IQ, can’t speed him up, can shoot and post up, transcendent passing vision both on and off ball.
They’re cut from the same cloth

What a great interview. Larry Bird is funny, without trying to be. Great to see the legacy of Indiana culture being put in the spotlight! They produced lot of legends like these kats.
Detroit born and raised and remembered these games, and I have to say. Most of the stories about Isaiah Thomas really was a not loved player, but his skill was unmatched for his size

Man, this made me miss Open Court SO MUCH. There's so much magic in watching a couple of OGs on couches telling stories like this.
Larry is such a humble guy. So cool to see him finally tell some of his stories. Also the mutual respect and admiration between these three is commendable. Great conversation
Just the glimpses of those old games put a smile on my face.
I just wish we'd get more Legends to do this a lot in the future. It's such a joy listening to their stories.
Three honorable men. Full of grace and humility. Thank you Reggie, Isiah and Larry for the memories.
idk about that...
