The NFL Champions used to play a college all star team every year from 1934 to 1976 (except for 1974 when the game was cancelled). Because this wasn't a single cohesive group of college players that been together before, but instead of group of All Americans from various squads, this is perhaps not the greatest simulation of what would happen. On top of that, this was an exhibition game, so you have to wonder how much the NFL teams were even trying, however the NFL won the last 12 of these games and 9 of those victories came by more than 7 points.

I played on a church league softball team years ago. There was a guy on our team who was a minor league professional pitcher between opportunities towards the end of his career. The guy of course played short stop for us. First time a ball is hit at him he casually picks it up and takes his time so much so we are all wanting to shout “ throw the ball!” Well he casually carries his arm back just as runner is a few steps from first….”ziiip!” Ball is seemingly instantaneously transported to the first baseman’s glove. The first baseman about crapped his pants. Runner out. You could hear the whole of both teams and the stands collectively gasp. Yah, pros are in a different class, even “washed up ones.”

    • @michaelbonnet2155

Every single pro team would beat every single college team and it's not even about the skill players. It's the o-line and d-line. A given college line *might* have 2 guys who could feasibly make the NFL. Every NFL o/d line obviously has every guy of that caliber and higher. College teams would get wrecked in the trenches, their QBs would get sacked every other play.

He was throwing 40 to 50 yards downfield without a problem. Also, I have to mention how much class Eli showed when he was benched in favor of Daniel Jones (on whom the jury is still out in his make or break season). After the way that he was treated by the 49ers, perhaps the same can be said about Jimmy Garappolo but look how that has worked out. Irony and karma can be real tricksters, can't they?

Those young receivers saw those bombs passing way over their heads and suddenly realized they were too slow . That was likely the first time they ever had to catch that velocity so, they adapted by going long , balls to the wall and it paid off ! Proud of them .

Nice of Coach Franklin, one of the classiest head coaches in the world, to go along with this stunt. I can't imagine him not giving his coaches the heads up before hand so they could still be objective about the other walk-ons. Chad was right, some of those short passes definitely going to leave a mark on those receiver's chests! And each one of those kids will be double dog motivated to chase their Div 1 football dreams. Go Lions!

I would have loved to see the coaches start asking him some questions for the big reveal. Chad could have said my Dad was a pretty good QB, and my older brother played QB quarterback, and was also slow. He proved to me that it is more about talent than the ability to run.

I mean it's bad enough when the guy you're competing with can throw the ball like that, it's even worse when he finds out he didn't make the team and then literally peels his own face off. That Had to have been traumatic for those kids.
